Such a wonderfully fitting tribute to a Titan of Nyro's stature. Sarah honoured her in these few minutes better than a thousand half meant speeches ever could. Laura would have loved that...
Three and half minutes of pure joy...!! Wonderful cover by Bareilles; so upbeat, happy, and joyous. Laura Nyro is an American treasure; as good as Joni Mitchell for sure. I miss the days of genuine and earnest music like this. Rock On Laura Nyro...!!
I was a kid when Barbra Streisand did this song, and I've always loved it. Then Sara took it and made it even better. Terrific artist and fabulous performance.
Yes, a difficult song, with A history. She got it, like all good songs starts with, a drama, ie I was born from love and mama worked the mines its brilliant.
I’m almost ashamed to admit it took me 12 years to find out my favorite female vocalist performed one of my favorite songs - the brilliant Sara Bareilles singing the brilliant Laura Nyro!! 😊
OK, I'll say it... Besides her singing one of the greatest and most difficult songs to sing, how absolutely gorgeous is Sarah in this performance?! I'm going to be dreaming about this for the rest of my life!
I know one of the musicians (June Millington) who played on the Streisand version of this song. Strange experience. Sara makes the song actually almost make sense. Outstanding performance.
When u r covering a song made famous by Nyro and Striesand you are on a hiding to nothing but Sara kills it.. Can't help thinking Laura looking down smiling, at such a fine tribute.
There is not enough I can say about this performance except thank you for singing and making videos such as this. We face a tenacious time in our history, if what they say is true, music is a gift from God. Then you are a gift in tenacious times for people who you entertain. 🌷
Why such little views? This was a dynamic and most powerful sophisticated and elegant performance in honor of Miss Laura. if you ask me one of my all time favorite dedications in honor of the late great and most fascinating lyricist of all time the incomparable Miss Laura Nyro gone but never ever forgotten let's always keep her memory alive.
The reason for the few views is that this was performed nine/ten years ago, and this official video has been published only a year ago, so.. people don't search for it anymore, everybody has already seen.

Will Lee, bassist, member or Paul Schafer's Worlds most Dangerous Band from the Letterman Show. Anton Figg was on drums and Sid McGuiness on guitar were all there.
I just love this wonderful performance and how could you go wrong with those backing vocals and such a tight band. I can only imagine how brilliant it must have been to see live.
I don't want to wait years to induct Sara Bareilles in the Hall Of Fame put her in "now" on this performance alone. #Beautiful, #Upbeat, #Positive & #Flawless, love this! Laura Nyro's induction is well deserved.
For someone, for anyone to even attempt singing this awesome song is worthy enough, but to reach and surpass the original is sublime mesmerizing talent.
Been reading a lot about Laura Nyro in the last couple of days. I read that Todd Rundgren said that after listening to Nyro, he started to write songs like her, and not The Who - and a lightbulb went on in my head! "That makes a LOT of sense now!" Question, of course, is just HOW do you do that? As for this performance: I did listen to it a second time just to listen to the BASS; vocals...maybe it's the hype ("Best ever!"), or maybe it's Sara smiling all through the song while singing a heart-rending song, but I'd just say it's technically sound, but somewhat emotionally lacking. I HAVE decided, by a narrow margin, that Stoney End is her Nyro's best song, over Stone Soul Picnic.
With such great success as a writer it's interesting that none of them became big hits until others performed them. LN was a great lyricist but not much of a performer. Barielles voice is quite limited, even flat at times.
At 2:21 of this video is the patented Laura Nyro pause/tempo change. And then; after Sara Bareilles accents the pause with a powerful vocal, that wonderful music resumes again at 2:36. But then at 2:57 it seemed like Sara and the background singers weren't on the same page as to when to end the song. Even so; being true professionals, this performance is a beautiful tribute to the fantastic Laura Nyro!
I am partial to Barbara's 1971 version of the song since it reflects back to the second half of my Senior year in high school. Takes me back to January of that year when it was all over the air waves. Nostalgia is powerful. Senior year songs from September of 1970 to June of 1971 stay with you forever.
Nevar thought to hear anyone do a verison of this dynomite Laura Nyro song that could match Streisand's. Sara comes verr close. Like Babs's, this seams an upbeat, happy covar - until you actaully listen to the lyrics and get whipsawed. Wish Nyro had lived longar to compose more musics like this.
So this was redone for the broadcast - is that right? I notice how different the ending is, even some of Sara's phrasing. And even in that version, which is excellent, you can hear the background singers (fantastic!) adapting to Sara's changes toward the end.
Perfect - great song, sung great, great band, great camera work, great sound, it's all great!
It's a big production, in a really good way.
Beyond great song… the lyrics are poetic.
