That grip advice is by far the biggest thing for my game. Since last year I’ve dropped from 14Hcp to a 6.6 so far this year
Awesome to hear bud
Same grip correction and similar hdcp drop (6)
Thats huge! Its hard to get hcp down even in 20:s where im at. Just under.
Peter - much appreciated video. We all tend to struggle with fundamentals (given our day jobs) and I appreciate this and all your other coaching videos. Great work as always! You have an excellent way of communicating to your audience 🙂
Love these types of videos so many good tips can’t wait to try them all!!!
What a brilliant video. Such clarity in explaining the points. I struggle so much with over the top.
Over the Hill Golf - Thanks.
Thank you Peter you are by far the first person on you Tube to really explain the difference of swings. I hope this will help me on this weekend?
This grip and wrist drill has blown my mind, suddenly everything else makes so much sense and comes with ease. Thanks Pete, top quality video
Great stuff Pete!! I love your instructional videos. Even if it’s something I know or have heard, it’s a fresh look at it. A reminder of something I started to work on and then just slid away from. Thank you sir.
Thanks Pete! Very simple stuff.
Keep doing your videos! Love them!
Great video, thanks! Definitely off to the range this weekend to try the tips out.
Great video Pete, will definitely practice these!
Wow thank you so much!!! This gives me a lot to work on. I want to get better at golf. Your videos are so fun and enjoyable. I'll be back for sure!
Great tips Pete, love the focus on opening up the feet to free up the hips.
Great stuff Peter
Working on the basics of golf is my current quest, starting with the grip.
Cheers
Thank you for speaking to us regular folks out here! What really matters is club face at impact so that is what I key on. I am late 50s, 6'2 " and 270. A young professional swing is irrelevant to me because much of it is physically impossible
This is a brilliant video 👏👏 I immediately shared this with my 12 year old son, telling him to watch it to help cure his over the top swing. Very easy to understand. Great stuff 👌👌
Fantastic video, Pete & Crew!
Great advice thanks I'm trying to fix my OTT tendencies and these are helpful.
Cracking video! Thank You.
Great stuff Pete
Wonderful information
Some great advice in this video. Really spot on. I've struggled with most of the issues mentioned and these explanations and fixes are very helpful. In addition there is one other thing that was making it hard for me to rotate and that was my posture at address. Being too bent at the waist with my backside stuck out too far and legs a bit too bent was making difficult for me to turn aswell as the things mentioned in this video.
That explanation on the shoulder rotation was great, that's something I'm going to remember when playing
Very good video! Top work 👌🏻
These videos. I almost forget I am learning because I am cracking up. Incredibly enjoyable. Appreciate it, mate.
Hello from New Zealand. Great explanations, I will return to your video frequently to get back on track.
Pete, you just summed up everything I need to work on in less than 10 minutes. Now I just need the next 6 months off so I can practice and play! Haha! This vid will go in the library download for sure. Thank you!
This is such a useful video, Thanks Pete! Off to the range to work on some of those things me thinks 👍
Great blog Pete 👍
Excellent!
Brilliant Video, been playing for about 8 months and I’ve had issues with all of these so far. 👍🏻
Hey hey hey! We have the same irons now. Partially. My T100s/T200 combo set is here! They are awesome! Now to the lesson. I do have a tendency to open the clubface on take-away. But I bow the wrists during the transition, so it’s corrects it often. Something new for 2022. Thanks. 🥂
breaking down the various rotations is really helpful
Fantastic!!! This is honestly some of the most complete advice for beginner golfers. I've taken several points and will be sharing with my wife and sister who have gotten into golf recently
Great to hear!
Right! I follow a lot of you tube golf coaches etc like rick shiels, matt fryer and you all make amazing content. This video is the most useful tip video I have seen so far, I know many of these things have been mentioned but the external rotation of the should and hip to turn the lead foot is exceptional advice! Love this video Pete 💯💥
Thanks Jon
ty peter. great video. as a teaching professional, i have been working on all of what you just said with my students. some people just dont like to change. it can get frustrating. cant wait to forward this video to those that struggle. On another note. I would love to see a video of you, Matt Fryer and Andy help your good friend Rick Shiels overcome his chipping yips. Please
He's very good but he's not jesus (miracle worker)
@@Dan-os9kg Maybe, but the three of them??? also, come on, you know that all of have been through this at one time or another. lets rout for Rick
Oooo this is going to be a great watch
We think so 😂
This one is going straight to my favorites map!
Had a lesson 2 hrs ago... I think my coach saw your video right before meeting me! he said the exact same things to me! leading edge aligned with spine, right elbow brought inside, wrist hinging and foot work. Great video Pete!
Knows what he’s talking about 👍
Best advice I've had for a while. That whole load up and freeze the right leg hip thing... man I'm just not that flexible and trying so hard to do it ended up limping around with a sore hip/leg/knee/ back and toes trying to dig into the ground... might start enjoying hitting a ball again!
Great tips!!!! Can't wait to hit the range tomorrow....and maybe some better shots?
After following the third tip, I had the best iron striking day of my life. Thank you!
You are a comedic genius with your facial expressions. Entertaining. Your amazing coaching is just a major plus🤣
Hey, Pete! Nice video. I enjoyed the transitions. 😀 Can you please give a tip on how to fix a flat backswing? Thanks!
Love the vids and your tips have been great. That said, not to disagree wholly with the footwork advice but beware of overflaring the left foot and putting too much pressure on the knee. I was playing with a similar foot flare and managed to dislocate my knee in the back swing (it popped back in and is healing well but I've been off the course for a month because of it). Won't be using much foot flare when I get back out there.
Thanks Pete I’ll try the tray hand to fall under instead of over. 👍
Pete you always do a good job of making me believe I can fix my swing, but the bucket of range balls I just hit would say otherwise
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for telling golfers to NOT set their feet parallel and perpendicular to the target line.. This is one of the first things you are told to do, set your feet parallel, and it is so wrong!!! Just as you do and so many good golfers, you flair your feet so you can move freely. Oh, and that grip info is pretty spot on too!! 😉
Would love to see in-depth videos with drills on the Swing Quest channel for each of these!
Regarding correct right shoulder rotation and elbow movement to shallow the club I heard a really good phrase which has helped me visualise things. "Loose the arm wrestle"
So Pete let me get this correct, if someone has ALL those fault can they be regarded as crap.🤣🤣😍
Really Easy to follow instructions, cheers mate🥰
Love those shoes Peter 🔥
Alignment !!! I see so many players myself included aligned way right (or left) of target. When properly aligned their curve tendencies are way less prononced and they can start to move their starting line to have the ball end in a much better spot. Alignment !!!
Second game in after a 12 year break and the slightest of twists of the lead foot has really freed up my hips. Cheers
I got a lesson with a PGA member once, just by correcting my grip (making it more natural) it made a world of difference.
I see what you did there Pete…. I see what you did. Used the main channel to point viewers to the alternate channel. Veteran move there. Very nice.
Pete do you have a video on how to tackle hooks?
Oh yeah
Can we have more videos like this please.
The external should rotation thing is something I've been trying to work on. The first time I tried to actively externally rotate my shoulder I had the best session at the driving range I've ever had but I struggled to bring that feeling to the course. Do you feel like your right elbow is basically tucked in as much as possible all the way up until impact, or am I exaggerating the feeling too much?
Lower body action is more important than upper body action. If you don't turn your hips enough the shoulder rotation will be limited as well. Not that you can't get fair distance that way, but you are limiting the potential substantially. Neutral grip feels like neither hand is really holding on to the club, both hands play an equal role. Feels awkward at first. Lately I developed an outside takeaway problem that throws me off plane at the top(disconnected) and I end up with lots of tops and shanks at impact. Technically you can shallow the club in the transition phase, but I always had a one plane swing so it doesn't come natural to me. There is only one video I found that discusses proper swing plane, nearly all instructors ignore the topic. The club travels on a diagonal arc inside on the backswing and outside on the forward swing. Totally agree about flaring the front foot out.
cCn I ask..... Have you found since changing to jumbo grips that you've lost distance?
I changed to mid sized +4's last year from standards. I really feel like I struggle to release it properly now and as such have lost speed and distance. Although I am more accurate 🙈
When it comes to your lead hand grip, is it okay for the left thumb, for a right handed golfer, to go completely over on the right side of the grip?
That slice swing was hilarious🙈😂
Loving the freeze frames 🤣
I took lessons for the first after wasting many years playing golf without lessons. Didn't realize I was internally rotating my shoulders, fixed the problem and my usual fade instantly became a reliable draw. Biggest advice, if you golf more then twice a year, get the lessons it's a life changer.
8.09...put next two seconds on loop and we all have a dancing Peter GIF...winning!
So, here’s my dilemma with my swing. Both of my wrists are now fused (surgically). Meaning they don’t bend up or down. They fused into a straight position. Needless to say, my golf swing and game has drastically changed and not for the better. Any recommendations? Lol
The cupped wrist at the top of the backswing is a tricky issue for anyone who has a neutral or strong grip as it mirrors the wrist position at address. Try to flatten the wrist at the top and you may end up hitting a snap hook. Best advice i think is never to allow the wrist to collapse at the top by gripping firm and keeping the club under control. Fred Couples is an example of a successful pro, and a long hitter, who had a pronounced cupped wrist at the top.
First? Love the vids bud keep it up 👍
Will do thank you
i wish i had more time in general, had a couple of weeks off the game because i just couldnt find the time. had the worst session on the range on wednesday, almost felt like quitting entirely....
@2:10 Sorry if I'm being stupid but when I try and do a grip like this, when I lay my right hand on my left thumb, it hurts my thumb. Anyone else get this? I find doing a baseball grip with my left and then bringing the right hand to it works ok but I do hook it left a lot - any advice anyone? Thanks
I like to think when doing those pose shots the you said to just take stills but they made it a video for a laugh
Dam, I'll cancel my order for my new shell suite.🤣🤣
5TH!
Putting a credit card in your glove, on top of your wrist will help you feel keeping your wrist flat or bowed, not cupped. Cupper wrist (open face) will dig into the card.
There's a great training aid for it: Watson Hanger.
Half of my problem is just how I'm feeling that day when I play. Sometimes when I wake up I can just feel the golf shot all the way through and I play great, other times I feel like I've never even held a golf club before. It's just random too, I can't really explain it.
I recently marked the card with an 11 on a par 3 😄 just putting that on the internet for eternity
I definitely come over the top and sweep instead of compressing the ball
When he demonstrated throwing the ball with his foot turned in made me laugh. Then I realized how many times I close my front foot in. I will always remember that tip.
My biggest problem is getting the hands ahead of the clubhead at impact.. for some reason, I just automatically chicken wing, and don't present my glove logo to target.
When I try, it actually hurts the back of my wrist/forearm.. but when on video that looks correct.. ouch = correct? ugh..
“Zoom in Kieron… zoom in…”
I felt that one 😄
My mate Moz spooked the life outa you 😝😜
I would never check my grip for how square it is behind my head, I would only check that by getting into the impact position. But the BIGGEST bad habit I have had is to start to release/"throw"/"pull" early, around shoulder height instead of letting the shaft get below my hips before releasing forward. That just murders every other technical concept.
any tips for over swinging, you seem almost like 80% of my swing, my hands seem to stop almost behind my head
This video really spoke to me. It explained exactly why Rick Shiels is so scared to 1v1 you... He saw that 1v1 with the local pro you did and now he knows you'd dominate him... Come on Rick, get your shit together.
Shout out to Danny Maude 👍
The five symbols are devilishly close to RS logo. What are you saying Peter?
You just called out 20% of the population commenting on abilities of throwing a rock at a target in relation to playing golf! 😂
C’mon Peter, you teach yourself every day, so you’ve taught millions and millions of students ! Don’t sell yourself short !
Can i wear a shell suit on the golf course 🤔
I was gonna send this to my brother, but I think it would confuse him... Too much to think about.
You’ve seen hundreds of golfers and thousands of golf swings. So, on average, each golfer had at least 10 different swings!!?! 🤔
