My parents passed away before they could show me all the recipes of foods I grew up with. As a kid I hated all these dishes but now I love them. Thank you for making all these videos. I will definitely try all of your recipes. And it’s nice to hear your mom speaking khmer. You are so authentic that’s why I prefer your videos to all others I could find.
This is the EXACT way my mom taught me how to make Prohok Khtis. If I can’t find any of the ingredients to make this dish, I will not cook it. To me, everything that goes into making this, are essentials. My sister, just the other day, requested me to make it for a Christmas Eve party she was attending. She made sure, she found all the ingredients. Thank goodness, one of her friends had the pea eggplants in her backyard and provided us with half a bag. Good thing I found your channel. My mom is currently verbally giving me all her recipes and instructions on how to make everything Khmer. She went blind a few years back plus multiple health issues after my dad passed. She wants to instill the knowledge she has onto me while she’s still around, so that I can keep her cooking alive. I love that you as a young man, is so welcoming and intrigued by our traditional way of cooking because not many young people are interested anymore. I love your mom’s accent.
Berny, I want to thank you for posting all this khmer recipes. You are lucky to have a mother. I lost my mother when I was 9, watching your mom, help me learn so much and i wrote recipes down so when i have kids, i will cook them khmer dishes. Thank you for passing it down.
U know u so lucky that have a good mum cook for u, i'm cambodian too but i living at Australia. I like to watch ur mum video because she speak khmer languge :)
I made this today for lunch, I thought my daughter would not like it...but while I was cooking it, it made the house smell so good. She couldn't wait to taste it. She absolutely loved it! Thanks Oum:-)
Thank you menu and know Bros for keep our traditional food alive. I will learn different way to cook khmer food. the next generation who like Cambodia food will never forget you and your mother.
Everything sounds good and I appreciate for your video that will help me and other peoople understand how to make this prahok ktis. Thank you for your translation and hard work. One thing I will appreciate it is you wont' call Thai eggplant as trop put gnong. Thank you.
Made this today turned out yummy! Had it with green beans and cucumbers. I couldnt get the dried fish but I just doubled the dried shrimp lol. Was worried at first because the tumeric and galanga gave such a strong smell, but it cooked down a lot so balanced out..ty!!
Thanks! Without these videos you and your mom made, I’d have a hard time figuring it all out. Being raised in America since I was only a year old, I probably wouldn’t even bother trying this if it weren’t for these RUclips “how to” videos. Keep up the good work and passing on the traditional dishes.
That is unfortunate, culture is so rich. Ancestors have been through so much and the ability for generations to keep it alive is admirable. So glad you made a conscious decision to dabble in some of this culture. Being born in the States to immigrant parents I struggled trying to juggle two languages and cultures but I am proud to be able to pass culture on to the next generation. Especially the asian shoes off rule, gentle mannerism and respect to elderly, and of course the delicious food. I am still working on speaking fluently naturally and reading and writing the language.
I love your videos because it feels like we're in the kitchen cooking with you. Your mom is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing all her wonderful recipes. Can't wait to try this.
I can't believe you never had this. Its so good! My mom says that she is like 50miles away from Siem Reap area. Hope you give the recipe a try. If you use canned coconut milk and ground pork that'll cut down the time in preparation.
Love watching your mom's videos, so informative. Every time I need some decision on what to make for dinner I tune in to her channel. So.... Tonight is prohok ktiss for me and my family thanks to your mothers recipe. 🍛😊
Thanks for sharing! Keep the videos coming your Mom is so sweet, I hate how you always eat at the end of the videos because it makes my mouth water lol
Of you guys can't find the threy chu uh or if it's too expensive, There is fish powder in a jar. I just bought it the other day at the Cambodian market.
It should be called as "smoked fish" .they are cooked by really low heat yet required lots of smoke from almost no fire source. I like all ur moms ingredient and recipe
My mom said that she knows the recipe. It just takes awhile before you can eat it. I've never had it before so I don't know what type of taste to look for when its all done. So it'll be my first time trying it. I'll see if I can get her to make it soon.
Cool beans. Are you from an area with a huge hispanic population? I venture to say you are from California? I actually cook a lot myself but too lazy to make videos ;) even went to culinary school to refine my skills. Your mom is awesome by the way. Keep up the great work.
This looks so GOOD! I would like trying this and the mam lahong mmm..lol. Ohh I notice that your mom does'nt use fish sauce much in any vids? Im vietnamese so was curious thx!
Where do you guys live? I live near Lowell, MA, and we have a lot of Cambodian restaurants and markets. I try to make this food often, and these vids really help!
@@lindaphonchanh8603 If people are looking for that ingredient, "Turkey Berry" garners better search results. It also goes by many other names, but "aubergine" is too general and results only show the typical purple fruit which most people associate it with anyway.
The rack of fish underwent the preservation process called "Ch'Urh" known in English term "dry smoked" This type of eggplant called Clustered eggplant.
My mom is from battambang, i don't think she's too fond of the coconut milk that's why I've never had it before.. we've had regular pahok though.. lol.. can i request a recipe.. mam.. with the papya i think and it has to ferment for awhile..hope you know what im talking about :) thanks for all your videos!!
There is a lot of hispanics where I live. But I don't think they're an influence on how I sound. And yeah I'm from California. We have a lot more recipes to make so we'll be busy all of 2013!
I have difficulties finding pea eggplants in my neck of the woods, but when I get my hands on some, I am attempting this recipe! BTW, trey cha-eur is also hard to come by (my sissy just came back from srok khmer, I should have had her bring some for me), is there a substitution I can use?
I love and appreciate what you are doing here! Are you married? Because I want to eat like this every day ;) thank so much keep the videos coming. How about the pork and pineapple soup?
