The electric impact wrench from harbor freight is 49.99 new, although there is always a 20% coupon so you can really get it for 39.99 new.
It has served me well over the past two years. it is heavier than an airpowered impact wrench, but it gets the job done.

I needed to get a cheater bar... So I looked in my backyard, had a 100 year old bicycle tire hand pump. Couldn't get it apart because it was so rusted from being outside. I needed the steel pipe to separate from the "ends." So I got out the LIQUID WRENCH...Sprayed both ends. All metal/steel parts. Finally, with some love taps with a hammer and the wrenches or channel locks it started to spin loose. Now I have a good solid pipe I can use as a leverage/ cheater bar/ breaker bar. Liquid Wrench works! Thanks for all your tips Scotty! 😇

Brilliant money saver. No need for breaker bar though that works too. Stuck frozen rusted lug nuts is an easy fix with a long hollow metal pole snugly attached to your lug nut wrench. Turn attached pole ( remember lefty loosey righty tighty) and off comes the lug nuts. Leverage is the best when it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

If anyone is going to use the cheap car jack pumps, make sure your putting jack stands before you go under the car, they are very unstable the more times you use them. I would have been killed if I was under my car when it popped out of place.
Also, if you have a strong power driver/drill you can usually rig it to the car jack that comes with the vehicle & raise/lower the car with the push of a button. I just twist the bit changer to its widest point, put the flat end of my car jack bar in it, tighten it good & away it goes, in about 10 seconds jack is fully extended & 10 seconds to collapse it.
Lastly, I cant speak for all autozone's but the one I use will let you use their OBD scanner if one of your warning lights pop on & if they are familiar with the error, they will explain to you what it means & how to fix it. So if you know you are not going to use one on a regular basis, check out your local autozone stores & see if they will let you use theirs for free & save your money.

LK Campbell Correct torque wrenches, gear pullers & a bunch of other tools that you may only need to use once or twice throughout the lifespan of your ownership of that vehicle can be borrowed. You do have to give them a deposit for the tool, which you get back once you return the tool in a functional state.

      DESCRIPTION
The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located within the distributor. The operation of the CMP sensor is very similar to the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. The CMP sensor will provide one pulse per camshaft revolution (1x signal). This signal will not affect the driveability of the vehicle. The VCM utilizes this signal in conjunction with the crankshaft position in order to determine which cylinder(s) are misfiring.

I watched some of your videos tonight and can see that you give a lot of good advice. I have seen you recommend in some of your videos, including this one, that people buy a scan tool. A scan tool is a great tool to have, but unless a person works on cars on a regular basis, it might be more economical for an individual just to take their car to Auto Zone, Advance Auto, or other such parts stores and have them pull the engine codes for them. Most all auto parts stores will do that for free. If a person needs to take a scanner home to check another vehicle, most parts stores will rent them out through a loan-a-tool program. It's a great way to get the tools you need, especially specialty tools, without having to invest a lot of money for tools that you may only use once every few years. Like you, I am a tool fanatic and have a good sized assortment of tools, but I don't buy specialty tools that I can get from one of the loan-a-tool programs. It saves a ton of money. Will be watching more of your videos as time permits. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

+Scotty Kilmer For me it seems that the problem with the bluetooth OBD-II scanners isn't the scanners themselves, it's finding a decent app to work with them! I've tried apps on Android, iOS, Windows and OS X and they all give conflicting information. They're great for live data readings, but they seem pretty useless for getting error codes or diagnosing issues that can't be found from live data readings.

hey scotty, you really should endorse those bluetooth OBD2 port readers. you can get them for $15 on ebay and they interface with basically any modern smartphone.
get the app called Torque for android, and it has a full scan tool suite built right in!
so you get a really good scan tool for only the cost of the bluetooth scanner, since you already have your phone!

    • @Ryukachoo
      @Ryukachoo 10 лет назад +1

oh heh, didnt watch long enough to see you mention them.
ive personally never heard of them damaging cars and i dont even know how that's possible. they have no onboard power source to do any damage.
were people using them for coding or something?
in fact, i'm seeing no evidence of them causing damage from my googling. lots suspect they cause battery drain but only a few do in very rare cases

IF they are poorly made, simply hooking up the wireless unit into the dash can short em out, and I've seen that with chinese made ones.

Scotty Kilmer I love your channel Scotty and this is good to know. I have never heard of this problem. I do know that I bought a used ELM327 from Amazon with good reviews for about $9 after shipping and bought the $5 torque app. It does everything that I need it to do. I did have a cheap scan tool I bought from Autozone but it doesn't even come close to what the Torque app can do. I think my point is find a brand of bluetooth ELM327 with good reviews at a decent price and it will be safe to use and much more versatile than the scanners from one of the big box stores (unless you are willing to drop some serious cash).

I would add a few: A good, portable light (also, a set of those that strap to your forehead is incredible useful for tight spots and when working at night); and mechanics gloves. Also, one gadget I bought years ago but has saved me countless times is a magnet that's mounted on an extendable wand. I can't tell you how many times I dropped a screw or bolt inside the engine and that thing got it right out....phew!

I was having some problems and a Local shop that did some work for me, used there computer to fig out the problem, get this they billed me nothing, and told me save your self some money go over to NAPA and get a sensor and do it yourself! I did, for a screw driver, my Leatherman had the right size, and I just borrowed a Socket and ratchet! The Whole thing took 15 min! I will be doing the PCV I think soon, I have to look at the records to see when it was last replaced!

You are so right Scotty! Great list of tools and some great advice. You are right about those cheap little bluetooth code scanners too. They are not reliable at all. You can still go cheap, but always go wired. Those wireless ones are junk and when you think about the miles of wire and electrical components in a vehicle, it is not hard to see why you get interference with such devices. Hell, when I fixed computers in a shop long ago, we were wired back then (no wireless at all) and had huge issues with one side of the shop, in the back corner and our electrical stuff just acted weird back there. Turns out, because we were in a mall and behind a movie theater, that all the electrical for the theater, ran behind that particular wall and corner. So I understand electrical interference problems all too well. Hehehehe.

If you want my opinion, I'd say look for a set of impact sockets. They are more sturdy and meant to take ridiculous forces making it basically impossible to shatter. While regular ones work great on rachets, they will shatter on impact wrenches and I'm pretty sure even a really big breaker bar might be able to break a socket if you're having to put a lot of torque on something but it's more likely you'll break one on an impact wrench so that's why I recommend have an impact set anyhow so you don't worry about breaking them.
