What an absolutely beautiful picture of Horse Guards without the noise of the traffic and tourists around, it looks almost eerily serene and quiet with just the two troopers on duty it’s gorgeous
Thank you john for yet another amazing bit of news of the parade My father was trained in the tank regiment to fix them and he has many a story to tell. He is 93 years old now. He can't remember what he had for breakfast this morning but he can still tell you about how to cook bacon and eggs on a tank engine. I have been writing down his memories of his time when he was serving in army with the tank regiment his job was to fix them. he would have loved to have seen the parade even on a TV screen or mobile phone.
@jackietomkinson933 how lovely you are able to listen and write down your father's memories for your family. Memories are precious and to be treasured. Perhaps one day you'll be able to share his memories with the tank regiment museum to educate future members of the regiment.
I still have a photo of my family and I in Trafalgar Square when I was three years old. I am now 71. My Father was posted to Germany from Canada in 1956. My mother and older siblings joined up with him there. We went on a brief trip to London. I also have a photo at Buckingham Palace in front of one of the guards. These are very precious memories. Thank You! John for taking this impromptu stroll.
17:43 Past and present members of the Royal Tank Regiment milling about the cenotaph after their annual Sunday observance for Cambrai Day (Nov. 20). The RTR is the world's oldest tank unit having been formed in 1916 during WWI. Each year the Tankies parade to the national cenotaph to commemorate the Battle of Cambrai fought Nov.20-Dec.6, 1917 in France. The battle was the first that used tanks on a large scale and also with combined arms of infantry, artillery, aircraft and engineers .
This is one of my favorite verses John . I got to see parts of London I've never seen before. Such beautiful buildings! Thank you for going ahead and videotaping instead of just turn it off and going on . its getting cold where I am in America. Right in the middle of our country, in Kansas!
John, on exactly this Sunday last year I remember you walking from Trafalgar Square through St. James's Park trying to get to Horse Guards Parade but Horse Guards Avenue was closed. However, you did manage to stumble across the Royal Tank Regiment Remembrance Day Parade as it turned off Birdcage Walk on to Horse Guards Avenue. So this year you've just done it in reverse!
I was struck by all those crane structures in the sky, beyond the horse guards! I throughly enjoyed the stroll you took us on. I never tire of seeing all those beautiful buildings. I also love seeing so many military and happy people!! We rarely see that here. How wonderful to see that parade. ❣️
You must have a sixth sense John! If you hadn't gone for a wander..........😊 I've never seen the royal tank regiment uniform, very smart in black, and those bowler hats - fabulously British.
Good morning John. So glad to see some sunshine. We are in Greater Manchester UK and yet again it’s cold, wet and dull. Wishing everyone a very pleasant Sunday and for the rest of the week. Bernadette 😎
once again you have given us a lovely surprise/what a pleasure to see the tank regiment/John Prince Philip used to wear a bowler hat and carry an umbrella. it must cost a fortune putting all the barriers up for so many groups who enter whitehall.
You've done it again. Listened to your instincts and given us a unique spectacular view of London. I'm not sure how you manage to be where you ought to be without even knowing you should be there. Well done and thank you so much. From America.
Once again thank you for a mystery tour it was a surprise brilliant ! Enjoy your brunch I’m now going to have my roast port Sunday dinner with of course home made Yorkshire puddings . Thank you again .
Just think! All of those veterans will have served in multiple active zones in the late 20th and 21st centuries. Almost all medals will be campaign medals. Afghanistan, Iraq and possibly some Falklands not to mention Northern Ireland during the troubles. I know my 3 brothers have multiple NI campaign medals, Cyprus, Aden,Beirut x2 with Un. Two of my three brothers are still alive and I think Aden was late 1960s. Big thank you to all militarily personnel, past and present, for your service and sacrifices.
This has been such a fun video, haven't missed the horses (too much). Thank you John. Loving it. Marvelous to be a part of T Square life. Been a long time since I was actually there, 1960.
Good afternoon John , I thoroughly enjoyed that unexpected wander and seeing the Tank Regiment was a bonus 😊A quiet day for KTRHA on duty , the hour in the box must seem longer with no one around to keep an eye on ! Sadly on some of the spammer channels they are already being called derogatory names for apparently ignoring " the rules " ! Some people have nothing better to do with their lives except complain about " one foot over the line " ! What unhappy lives they must lead . Sunshine here in the North East but very cold I don't mind the cold when it's bright and the colours and light are superb 😊. Hope you had a good breakfast and enjoy the rest of your day , see you tomorrow 😀
My Dad joined the Grenadier Guards in 1937 then as the WWII started his Battalion was turned into the GG Tank Raiment. His stories of training were hilarious as so were some of his war stories. He was blown up twice in his Tank getting badly burnt but still went went back till see it through to the end. He wore a Beret of every working day after and on 11th Nov travelling to London always wore a brown Trilby as did his old war mates. I noticed I few in your video and it bought a tear to my eye.
Hi John, it looks like what happens with quite a few of your meanderings through the city that you are at the right place at the right time when these events are happening it’s wonderful
Greetings from Australia, it so nice to see London, I feel as though Im there with your videos and explanation of what is happening, loved to see the men in their uniforms, and the men dressed up in their bowler hats so British, also I love listening to your accent....thank you for your videos I never miss them.
That was fun to watch, thank you 😊 I just realized there are no more pigeons at Trafalgar Square. I've been there two times (in the 80s and 90s) and people were selling small cups with birdfood so the pigeos land on your head and arms. I cant remember it, but there must have been very very much pigeon poop (or however it's called) 🤭
Seen a few strays on the ground, bobbing around, trying to blend in with the tourists. Poor birdies, no scraps to be found. Pigeons landing on people's heads and arms reminds me of the scene from Home Alone 2, the pigeon lady! Guano!
Good morning John, glad your are here for my morning coffee❤️ Thanks again for a very interesting video, always miss our beauties! Like the surprises and the architecture ! ❤️from Florida
What a fantastic video John it’s so educational and learning and seeing the different parts of the military and the ceremonies I saw a video of the king and princess and laying the wreaths at the memorial how beautiful and that was on your day there which would’ve been November 11are they here November 11 I was doing my part here for our troops and just remember and honor our soldiers and fallen is a great honor because they should never be forgotten for the sacrifices they made to keep our country safe😢😢😢😢😢😢
Those medals the soldiers were wearing in their photo shots are truly impressive 🎖🎖 / Personally John, I have always preferred to see fountains on wherever I just happen to be where there is a fountain, but I do like how you pointed out about the stillness of the water showing reflections. 👍
This amazing walkabout brought memories of living in Japan and later Germany or unfamiliar regions of the U.S. .Just head out for a lovely walk through a small town or village on a weekend when everyone is out enjoying a pretty day and find yourself in the middle of a local event, fest, or public celebration to get swept up in. It's the real adventure of living abroad for 3 years at a time. I once decided to walk around a small mid-west American town and found myself in a bi-centennial town celebration with the whole town dressed in period costume and parading down main street. Thanks for taking us along the side streets again.
Thank you for taking us on a stroll round the city. St Martins and the National Gallery looked splendid in the sunlight. I think you did show part of the RTR parade last year. So nice to see.😊
Hello John: What a day, right? Exciting!! The walk around was a pleasant surprise and appreciated, thank you for that. All the Military folks dressed in some of there finest and smiles everywhere, excellent. Again, another fab video. Thank you for the commentary too, its a BIG BIG Plus on your channel. The blue sky the clouds the Queen Elizabeth Tower, magical. The sunlight on the Whitehall buildings make them glow, contrasting with the sunlit autumn coloured leaves on the trees. At least the gunners and their remounts can enjoy some peace and quiet. While we enjoy the tour of the nearby buildings. Nice to see the Tank Regiment, relaxed and friends meeting up. Great find John. Thanks for the National Gallery and Portrait Galleryagainst that cloudless blue sky..😊

Thoroughly enjoyed the walk around London. Absorbing..
He was from the New Zealand Army.
Fabulous to see an Aussie! Thanks John, always entertaining & newsy. Missing the horse guards though this morning.
He was not an Aussie, New Zealand Army shoulder tag
