- This tale from the Tube is how to spend a day in London when there was supposed to be a rail strike on but ended up not happening and it was too late to reinstate the timetable. Filming some old Tube Trains on the London Underground.
The Central Line which runs from Ealing Broadway or West Ruislip to Epping and Hainault is worked by 1992 Tube Stock Trains but some of the lines are out in the open and during Autumn or the leaf fall season, leaves can get on the track so the London Underground has some old Tube Trains known as the 1962 Tube Stock working as Rail Adhesion Trains (RAT) on the Western and Eastern end of the Central Line to clear the leaves off the track like a Rail Head Treatment Train.
This video is chasing two 1962 Tube Stocks Trains on the Western and Eastern end of the Central Line. only difference is... one a 5-car train and the other is an 8-car train. Filmed 7th November 2022

Well done with your video. One of the drivers on the Sandite who is now quite senior himself was my Guard for a while on the 62s. He moved over to the Engineering side a few years later. (They actually run the Sandite train) I retired myself in 2021 after 45 years service, most of that as a driver. Just a note, all trains to Epping go Eastbound and not North as you mention. Thanks again.
62TS sound so good, I remember when a 4-car set would work the Epping-Ongar job.
Thanks David, have been on the Epping-Ongar Railway on a N2 and a Class 31, nice little line.
Great set sight on the old rolling stock central line trains Really miss the 1962 rolling stock trains the seating was a lot more comfortable inside the carriages
Yet another fantastic Vlog Simontrains I never knew that they were still running the 1962 tube stock on the central line I agree with you it’s certainly fantastic to see this tube stock still being used on the London Underground network I continue to enjoy watching your Vlogs Simontrains carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe and i look forward to seeing wherever you may turn up next
Thanks Simon83
@@Sim0nTrains your welcome
I’ve been on the Central Line lots of times and my Nan used to take me to Central London as she lives in Hainault. Nice to see the 1962 Stock in action.
Thanks Andrew
@@Sim0nTrainsNo problem 😊
Brilliant Video seeing these Veteran Classic Tube Stock, There are certain types of Departmental Style Tube Stock which I'm interesting in capturing as well like the Sole Surviving 1972 MK1 Tube Stock that I won't mind seeing along with the 1960 Tube Stock as well, grand video mate:)
The 1972 Mk1 stock has now been stripped for parts for the existing fleet.
@@SouthLondonRailwayPhotography Has that gone because 6 months ago someone did say that went to CF Booths Rotherham or that still at Holborn?
@@PEPEMUFAN The shell is currently sat in Ruislip Depot. It was moved there December last year.
@@SouthLondonRailwayPhotography Will look into that further cheers for the information.
Thanks PEPEMUFAN, the 1960 Tube Stock I think that comes out next month, does somethings in mid-January and planning to follow up with chasing that as this video has been awesome
Very good video. Very enjoyable to watch. 😀
Thanks Desiro360
brilliant video im loving the 1962 Central line train & brilliant shots
Thanks Michael
I Remember tge 6w stock in service. As a kid loved them and the 59s and the 38
Very nice Acton packed day getting them 1962 stock central line trains Simon. I enjoyed watching!
Thanks Sam
Great video
Thanks John Wayne
Great video, Cyber! The 1962 stock looked good - even on such a grey day. Nice work capturing both of those trains at so many different locations!
Thanks Barrowc
Great video! My home station as a kid was Grange Hill and I have a station bullseye from there. I remember the introduction of ATO trains in 1964 on the Hainault loop when the “red train” as I called it as a 6 year old was one of the very rare 1935 stock trains. Presumably the ‘62s won’t be with us for much longer.
Nope, these 2 have got about 12 more years in em.
I liked the follow-on joke from “no no I said BUCK”, when you said Epping instead of effing
Thanks Kaitlyn. Honestly that was made while on the go, wasn't planned but when thought of it and just filmed it.
Great video Sherlock
Thanks Arnold
Cracking video. Always good to see the RAT out and about.
1962 Tube Stock is awesome
They are Indeed
Great Captures Of The 1962 Stock Trains Simon 👍
Thanks Phillip
Great Video. I've filmed the 5 car 1962 stock quite a few times on the Rail Adhesion moves and I even managed to film a 3 car 1973 Stock train on the Piccadilly Line on another Rail Adhesion move.
Thanks WLT&W, I was planning to capture the D78 Stock on the Met as well but decided against it for this day but may get the 1973 one next year.
Have the other three carriages of the 1962 Stock sadly, disgustingly and unfortunately been scrapped?
Nice one!
Thanks English Man in Markredwitz
I’m an UndergrounD aficionado but didn’t know about the 1962 stock trains. That’s great, thanks for sharing SoT.
They used to operate on the central line back in 1992 until the introduction of the 1992TS trains a year later
I know I did mention about them working on the Central Line towards the end, but they also got transferred to the Northern Line and worked on the Northern Line for a bit as well
@@Sim0nTrains yep to withdraw the 1972mk1 stock trains
@@Sim0nTrainsthe two RAT Trains are a mix of 59 and 62 stock
I didn't realise that it was two different RATs, this is going to be a must next year
5 car and a 8 car
nice chasing video
Thank you
Brilliant video Cyber, I may of even rode the 1962 tube stock on the Northern line in 1999 but not too sure on that as I was very young at the time. Would of loved to have seen it in action on the RHTT runs as well.
Think they were on the Northern Line around 1999 as they were transferred if not 1962 Tune Stock could had been the 1959 Tube Stock. Thanks Reuben
Great video. Was only at East Acton on Thursday, didn't have any time to video any tube trains though unfortunately.
Thanks Chris
wow! that’s a good catch! the oldest I saw was a 72 stock
Thanks William, there is an older Tube stock, which is still working as a departmental train, the 1960 Tube Stock which will be a future video chasing that.
@@Sim0nTrains nice!
I hope one gets preserved, the 4 car set at the back of Hainault was sold to TFL for spares, there is a ‘59 ts unit in Sussex though awaiting TLC
Remember them coming into Ongar quite a long way into winter in their unpainted attire. They used to visit at around 10pm from memory, pretty sure it wasn't a full 8 cars though.
When I go to London I stay in a hotel that overlooks North Acton tube station
That's handy. When I go for hotels, I try and get them close to a station
Great vid, nice to see the 62 stock still being used. I prefer the Innie doors compared to the outie doors of the 92 stock...looks more futuristic and sleek. Opening windows too!
Thanks Al.
Still, I wonder if a tube train has gone through the tunnels with the picture of someone like that! Would be interesting to see
They do as the depot they based at is on the Western side and one have to travel over the Central Line to get to the eastern end.
Central Line looks like it has some good stations to film at
It does indeed
Got to say some of the stations on the eastern side looked big enough to accom the regular stock and have some room to move
They used to be former Railway Stations
This has been an Epping video to watch with loads of Acton from the 62 stock trains!

Fantastic video
How did you find out when it runs? Do you have any diagrams or something?
And i think you’ve out Geoff Marhalled Geoff Marshmall. And even Jags would be impressed
Great video Simon. Did you get a chance to see what was inside? I've never seen it before. Your lucky.
Thanks Jacob, yes I did. the sadnite machines are in the but they still have seasts and old maps as well. Think I saw a Northern Line as they did came off the Central Line to work on the Northern Line.
@@Sim0nTrains Interesting. A bit of all sorts then by the sounds of it.
Do you have the timetable Simon?
I'm trying so hard to see it at my local on the East End RAT
Yes but it a PDF from where I found it. As it from my email from a Yahoo Group. So I got a copy and sent it to google drive for you to download drive.google.com/file/d/1dMZsI8z274rVNxinwgMCMAjeccx22prp/view?usp=sharing
@@Sim0nTrains Thank you!
2 stations up is me
I think it's dawned on me how come overpasses get high retaining walls each side around GB: to prevent suicide...no?
Not following you on that one, please feel free to explain more
maybe more a matter of preventing yobs, over the ages, lobbing mischief at trains..?
@@trainrover you on about why they raising the walls on the bridges?
right..and now I'm thinking it may be to ward soot off of passersby, because even ones in the countryside can have just as high walls
and, still, probably geared more for horses than actual locals..?
🤔Anyone know the reason why some have had the tail lamps relocated and others left original.
