I love how you're becoming more and more a comedian instead of a tech RUclipsr only. The video a few weeks ago where you said "I found this fat guy with a big head" (referring to yourself in a RUclips video) and some moments in this video as well completely cracked me up.
Keep doing what you do best! I enjoy watching you more and more every video!

I recently bought a PC from CEX too which I have made a couple of videos about. They told me that they don't look inside the PCs before they sell them. This would explain why there are screws missing on the inside.
It's pretty pathetic really.
CEX should do better even if it is a franchise with different standards from store to store.
i wonder how they handle guarantee if they dont even know whats going on on the inside...
Haha, while I was watching this video I was thinking "Damn if I worked for CEX these would all get dusted out and cable management would be on point"... But if they don't do that anyway... I guess I wouldn't be!

I have bought 2 pcs on cex before. One was a £260 fx 6300 , Gtx 1050 8 gb ram system but when it had arrived it was with a very cheap power supply and a Japanese branded motherboard. To top that off the cpu wasn’t a fx 6300 but was a fx 4300 which was severely bottlnecking my gpu. I was lucky that they have a 2 year warranty and was able to get my full money back where I bought another pc off them (the 2 year warranty is pretty good if you get lucky buying a bargain). I bought an i7 2600k, Gtx 1050 8gb system which came with a mid range-high range motherboard and a 675w thermaltake psu that’s fairly good. No problems so far but not having any pictures and limited info can be very off putting when buying from cex.
Like the new upload schedule
Most of those issues like the broken foot, dented corner, PSU screw slipping through, HDD loose in the case, etc. are probably due to handling in shipping. I've had one PC I built that had all of these problems and a broken front panel when it arrived at the customer despite my best efforts in packing. Hard to prevent it with toolless cases when the entire box gets skewed with great force, so this has influenced my case selection for builds when I know it will have to be shipped.
Loved this. More of these please!!!
You've got a good channel here mate, if you could get yourself a mini studio you'll go far
You're missing the bracket that's supposed to go with it. The AMD platform and mainstream Intel platform requires brackets for the AIO to be screwed into it and hold it down for mounting.
great content as always looking forward to next video :3
dave is back at last!
Thank you for this entertaining video!
A BQ Pure Rock cooler would fit this system quite nice.
I bought an i7-3770 from cex the other week. The idiots posted it inside a plastic cd sleeve (the kind you get inside a cd wallet) and a thin flimsy bubble envelope. I was shocked that it actually worked and wasnt damaged in transit. 😂 Their packaging is atrocious, let alone quality control.
I bought an FX 8350... same. Had bent pins but FORTUNATELY managed to fix them.
@@egnbigdave Ouch! Thankfully you managed to get it fixed. At least the i7 doesn't have pins to get bent, but the lack of protection is shocking never the less.
I've purchased three CPUs from them and all were packed completely differently. The worst was a 1090T sent in an actual thin paper envelope rather than one with air bubbles, protected by nothing more than an anti-static bag. Miraculously it was fine.
@@CaptainKenway At least you got an anti-static bag 😂 My cpu didn't have one, lol. I bought 2 hard drives in the past too, with no anti static either. One was sent in a jiffy envelope, no protection, the other in a box with loads of bubble wrap. In hindsight i should have remembered about the hard drive before buying the cpu.
Their packaging is hilarious sometimes, I always get RAM and Hard Drives(!!!) sent in normal jiffy mailer bags lmao
Please do a video where you take all these components out, clean them and put them back in. Also upgrading to dual-channel memory. Thanks and great video!
That's the same case I bought her in the US for a new build recently. It was $49.99. It is the Raijintek Agos. I was pretty impressed with it actually although yours is more beaten up of course.

I've got two PC's from CEX the first was a advertised as a i5 2500k but came with the non-unlocked version instead and it had a cheap power supply that lasted 2 months and had no case fans. After returning it I bought a dell OEM PC from them instead which I upgraded and is still very happy with to this day.
"eyes painted on" is an expression i havent heard in many years. it wasnt even common back when i last heard it either and because its so uncommon, it took me about 3seconds to think about what it actually meant. lol

I used my FX8320 for nearly 5 years. Forced a 4.5ghz overclock out of it under full time use. Could handle 4.7 stable, in short bursts as I couldn't keep it cool long enough.
Use a plop of gull guano to re-affix the CPU cooler! It sticks to most surfaces quite readily, and has excellent thermal conductivity.

Man a non pc builder would be so mad n lost on that build ...hope once you get a cooler n put your loving to it that it runs good for you!!
I once ordered an FX 6300 for a friend to "upgrade" his older pc a few years ago. I live in TX but when the item was shipped it at one point said "in Dallas" which I felt meant it would make to to me the next day seeing as how I am 3 hours from there. Instead later that day I got an email saying it was delivered to "an individual at undisclosed spot"(No joke that is what it said) in Forney TX. Thankfully I was able to get my money back quickly but I just don't know if I can trust that site after that.
Im glad the seagull is ok (Loved the vid keep it up!)
One unit I bought from CEX had the PCI-E slot removed from the motherboard. It was still attached on the graphics card though..
Another unit had the cpu cooler inside the case somewhere, the cpu was behind the motherboard and the pins were all bended.
*bent*
That's actually a good value for the money, just needed a little love to put it into proper order.
Looks like the hit on the corner also bumped the screw out of place, as opposed to it being improperly installed.
I thank you for this video, it was really interesting!
Quality control depends on how well the franchised store is ran where it comes from. Nothings is checked centraly.
Good to hear Dave the seagull is doing well
By the looks of it, PSU screw "not being screwed to the case" and HDD felling off might be related to that buckled bottom corner of the case. That doesn't explain CPU cooler though, as it should be tightly and evenly screwed to the motherboard with four screws. It's strange how GPU survived that.
Recently I bought a 1080ti from a branch of Cex it cost me over £500 and you would think that a card of that price point would have been checked and checked again before being taken for trade. But no. After 18 months of saving up to replace my tired old 970 I got it home and realised quickly that I had a whole load of issues. Firstly 3 of the back panel screws were missing in my exitement at buying I missed this fact. Secondly of the 3 fans the centre one span constantly at a third speed regardless of gpu temps and the other 2 would just jerk a bit unless tapped when they would come to life untill the next time they span down. This resulted in 60c idle temps and 90 plus c under load. I placed 3 120mm fans against the card to achieve 40c and 75c respectivly but the card would immediatly freeze under any remotly taxing game. I ran the card in debug mode and without its boost clock it would play in semi stable fashion. At this point I asked myself what the hell I was doing and put my 970 back in my machine. The card went back to cex for an exchange with a 1070ti and partial refund. I cant understand why anything of value like that hadnt been properly checked. Along with your story with this pc I wonder if CEX have a few PC testing centres and one of them has some seriously lazy quality control. Sorry for the long reply but after spending 12 hours, 7 sets of drivers 3 ancilliary fans, 4 differant power supplies and 3 differant pcs your similar quality control issues struck a chord! Keep up the good work.
Grade B, some assembly maybe required. Them push to lock tool-less cages can come loose in shipping doesn't take much which is why i personally screw them in as it was the case with my Cooler master Cosmos case and that was like £350 brand new on it's own.
I dont think they failed to screw in the psu. I have seen that issue when rigs are dropped on a corner. Bad AIO, psu ripped out etc....yeah this was dropped hard. You may find the mobo mount plate and/or the backplate are bent, not allowing the AIO pump to mount securely.
I ordered a Hori RAP Tekken 7 XBOX edition fighting stick from CEX in April. They sent me a Wii fit board. All sorted now. What a cock up though
The fan on the PSU should be pointed straight down when mounted to the top or bottom of the case. When mounted on the bottom it sucks air through the bottom of the case and blows it out the back. I'd remove the motherboard and make sure they put in the right number of standoffs and they didn't make any shorts. It's obvious the builder did a horrible job so I'd disassemble it and check all of their work. Check the CPU back plate too.
The problem that ive faced with cex is that, they wont buy your single scratched disc but they will sell you a fully scratched one.
The PSU wasn't screwed in wrongly, that bit of the case where the screw was in broke off.
A lot of transport damage there, got lucky for the graphics card not to have broken off.
I could not agree more with you on CeX. I once took in a mobile phone to sell but they would not even test it because the charger was slightly bent (it was an old Nokia charger). The charger still worked but CeX would NOT entertain me unless I got an actual genuine charger for the phone that was basically in perfect condition. The same branch of CeX six months later managed to sell me not one but TWO faulty Nokia N95s.
thats one of the best am3+ boards though , plays very nicely with the higher clocked ram like 2133/2400 and a very very easy-nice bios i have the m5a97 le for my ddr3 ram testbed
Come for the pc, stay for the seagull
Dave paid us a visit. That's good luck.
Hi mate, I have that same cooler, you should be able to to find some spares for it on ebay.
I got my GTX 295 (the older dual PCB Version) from CeX, needless to say it works, but damn it got beaten up in postage, (IO plate bent etc) and looked like it hasn't been cleaned in all its life.
Only cost me like £18 about a year ago now, I'm glad the i7 4930K I got from them still works too 🤞though I can certainly say the practices they use & have aren't exactly fair nor good for us consumers/customers.
My local CEX doesn't take computers...or even motherboards. They will however will take any HDD as long as it spins up and shows inside Windows (I ended up with 1x WD Black 2TB that died within a week, and 1x early model WD Green 2TB with a lot of dead sectors - outlived by my 80MB Caviar despite the potential for stiction). And they do not look graphics cards over correctly as they have also missed the very obvious water damage on an MSI armour GTX 970.
2:50 na i rekon it was screwed into the little indent and it was pushed out when the case was smashed up during shipping
The reason why their quality control can seem a bit hit or miss is because when you sell something to them online, they check it over at a central location for online stuff, yet if you order something online, it'll likely be something in stock in one of their stores, so it'll depend on the staff at that store and their standards of checking over stuff.
Yeah. I had the same problem. I got an A grade MacBook Pro from CeX which is supposed to be mint condition but it has a scratch on the top case and a mildly infuriating nik on the bit where you open the hinge which I forgot the name of. Also everytime the fan turns on I die of tabacco poisoning cos it stinks. Good thing I got 2 years warranty
Is that a Cooler Master case, they use those same HDD "Holders" that were used yet not used in this machine. Case is rather nice, I'd like to order a new one to stick my old Core Duo workstation into, it's in an old Emachine eTower case, no room for the 3 HDDs I have mounted in the system (In fact that machine is much like the way you have this machine, with the HDD outside of the case altogether). I'd be able to mount all 3 into this box though.
Even with a replacement cooler, that CPU/Mobo combo will run badly at best. The M5A97 is an entry level 970 motherboard which struggles with the 8 core Piledriver processors.
I'm guessing the cooler wasn't screwed in place, just glued on with the paste. So, in transit, it fell off!
Seagull!!! You're pretty good too but... The seagull is where it's at.
The problem with the quality control of cex is its gonna vary on a store by store basis due to a number of factors: staff in the stores knowledge of components they’re working with (great In the store I worked in since I know my components and tended to be brutal with testing them as did two other colleagues) or whether the shop is corporate or franchise since franchise stores could be more or less strict with rules but some corporate stores could be neglected and not be updated and trained regularly, though I can vouch that is ridiculous but the must be shipping damage since parts of the case falling off is grounds for instant failure A usually means near mint B means some cosmetic scuffs and mild to moderate scratching and C means scratched quite severely but all working, and no cracks or severe body damage it’s likely the store you got that from didn’t have the best tester for PC parts either though since they should have stressed tested it
CEX prices are really high here in the Netherlands, their items are often times the same or more expensive as new ones
At least you got what you ordered :D I ordered some DDR2 from them and they continued to send out either ECC RAM which won't work in an Intel desktop board or DDR3, or just the wrong capacity completely. Did it 6 times in a row and I just gave up.
yeah that happens a lot, ive done this several times too and always the same result; either broken or incorrect specification.

Looks like Dave is back again to help out with the videos
I got a 7970 3gb delivered from them and the rear bracket was bent down I'm not sure if it was in shiping rolled in bubble wrap and put in an envelope
Just came to see the seagul.
Also to leave a like :P
That was a bit naughty there m8, you could have fried cpu and other melty bits and lucky the thermal trigger was on the ball. I would have put that as a C grade at least as a B grade is usually working as intended with some light exterior damage or scratches but the innards should be all golden and good to go. I imagine it was dropped in the warehouse and then pushed into the general stock in the hope someone doesn't notice :( Here's hoping someone at the firm watches this and reaches out, I was thinking of buying a RX570 off 'em but now thinking again...
CeX's quality control has a lot to be desired. A while back I bought an XBox (original) Controller from them for like £10 or something, can't remember the price. Long story short, it took about 4 times with an angry letter each time about their quality control (I think the last time I threatened to call them out on social media lol) before they sent me a working one, which they sent by special delivery; Though in the end I think I cost them more in postage than I paid for the item.
I mean if you added another 8 gig stick of RAM and fixed the thing up you've got one hell of a good deal on a PC.
Ayy the seagulls back
I can help you with the cooler issue, maybe, the mounting hardware on the pump is on upside down. I don't know if anyone else said anything in the comments but yeah, its upside down. I've had thats same exact cooler on a FX6300
Just wanted to let you know, that plate should be the other way. So give it a try.
I love that seagull :D
If that's a B grade PC, then I wonder what they would sell as C or D grade PC then :)
They used to sell C grade items, and it was usually damaged or low quality.
New! GeForce 210/TR 2990WX Gaming PC! Plays Forknife at 240fps 16k Resolution! Buy Now!
@@adwaitagnome I'd buy that, I actually want the TR 2990WX, and I'm pretty sure the GT 210 isn't adding any to its price.
Side note, my Titan Xp runs Fortnite at 67 fps at 4k, so 16k would be like 4.2 fps for me, so I'm calling that bluff! (otherwise I approve of the PC!)
THE SEAGULL LITERALLY SCREAMED "NO"
I'd imagine a fair amount of the issue is due to shipping, especially with that box damage matching with the case, it's a shame really
I really don't get it either. I've been declined for selling a GPU simply because I didn't hand it in with a static proof case, but whenever I buy a component, it pretty much always comes in bubble wrap
I have an M5A97! Quite a good board, actually.
