RIP Robin Williams
He was a comedic genius but he was also an awesome serious actor
Yep. There was a lot more to Robin Williams than just being funny.
@@lukespillman1313 👍
Its tends to be common that great comedic actors make for great dramatic actors. Peter Sellers in Being There, Jim Carrey in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk-Love and Uncut Gems, Bill Murray in Lost In Translation, Eddie Murphy in Dreamgirls and Dolemite Is My Name, Will Ferrel in Stranger than Fiction, Steve Carrel in The Big Short, Whoopi Goldberg in The Color Purple, etc.
@@taliamason7986couldn't agree more
And he was a magical blue djinn that had a good heart.
Very slept on gem from both Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Surprised it doesn’t get talked about more.
The best pairing ever.
RIP Robin
"Very slept on" you say?
@@iisanulquiorrahara8 haha
Not exactly one of Nolan’s best films. Plus it’s the only remake of a movie he’s made to date, which doesn’t quite fit Nolan’s brand.
I see what you did there
While filming Insomnia in Hyder Alaska, a little hidden area nestled between the Canadian Rockies, Robin Williams would perform stand up comedy for the town of maybe 100 citizens at the local bar in the evenings, just because he could.
As a kid I was in Hyder a couple weeks after they filmed the cabin explosion and saw the remains being dismantled. I remember wishing I had gotten to meet Robin Williams if only we had visited a bit earlier. Great man. RIP
Every story I hear about Robin confirms to me that he was one of the best people who ever lived, using his talents to bring joy to others wherever he went.
@@DFloyd84rip Robin Williams 😢
Robin Williams does a magnificent job playing disturbed bad guys. Apart from this movie, I heavily reccomend his disturbing role in "One Hour Photo"
he did an episode on that watch?v=2l-iVGtcKxs
Yes! I believe Vile did a video on 1 Hour Photo also
@@Bruski1231he did
He was strongly lobbying to play Gendo Ikari in the now cancelled live-action adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Such a scary caracter in that movie😱
It's still one of my favorite Chris Nolan movies. Robin Williams was really talented in this role and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the film
Robin W. could be the sweetest man or the most sinister of villains, truly a man who loved his craft.
@D0NU75 Indeed. Saw this movie for the first time a couple years ago but before that my entire knowledge of Robin's career was all just funny roles like the genie from Alladin. He really did have a wide range of what he could do for characters.
Williams did psycho in One Hour Photo too.
@@magnuskallasmy favorite SVU villain
Between Insomnia and One Hour Photo, I wish Robin Williams tried out more antagonistic parts. He was very good at tapping into his own inner darkness.
Ikr, I loved One Hour Photo.
You guys might like final cut if you like robin in his darker roles. The themes of the movie are relevant today, it aged well.
He was painfully heartbreaking in One Hour Photo. Love that film.
He was really good in an SVU too
@@alessandrajackson3768my favorite
The best way I have heard the difference between the leads described is Jonas is a straight up dirty cop. Will is a fairly clean cop who crossed a line when he couldn't see another way to close a case.
-Mickey & Mallory Knox - "Natural Born Killers"
-Arthur "Trinity" Mitchell - "Dexter"
-Gordon Moseley & Simon Callem - "The Gift" (2015)
-Andrew - "Chronicle"
Trinity would be so good
I would love to to see Mickey and Mallory, too! I mentioned them in the Discord, probably close to a year ago.
The 1997 version is one of the Finest Nordic noir films that I want to watch. It is similar to Joe Nesbo's novel.
Thanks for this, I didn't know the Hollywood film was based on another. It appears the ending to both Insomnias are different - it looks like one perhaps never get to sleep again for what he has done and the other finally gets to sleep after clearing his conscience
This is probably one of the best examples of how to do a remake, it's just different enough to be its own story while keeping the basic plot and premise.
Id love to see you breakdown Kiefer Sutherland's character The Caller from Phonebooth.
Or Kiefer Sutherlands role in eye for an eye with Sally field and Ed Harris.
Ooh, yes! That film was better than I thought it would be, the tension running through it kept me on edge.
I love the atmosphere of this film
I would love to see your take on Frank Griffen from Godless or Ben Wade from 3 10 to Yuma, possibly one of the most complex villians in the western genre behind Dutch Van Der Lind
Agreed. Ben Foster plays a great sociopath, and Charlie Prince is a great example in a great movie.
Good stuff as always!
Was hoping to see the following covered one day:
- Joe Cooper (Killer Joe)
- Nino Brown (New Jack City)
- Jake "The Muss" Heke (Once Were Warriors)
- The Always Sunny in Philadelphia gang
- more James Bond villains
the always sunny gang is such a low-key genius deep dive of evil LOL
Good call on Jake, damn that’ll be a rough episode.
So glad you are making a video about the original, its so rare to find videos on it.
You’re possibly my favorite channel Mr. Vile. Thank you for your in depth and entertaining analyses.
For the future I suggest analyzing the characters and themes of Denis Villeneuve’s film Prisoners, Michael Mann’s film Heat, and hopefully next Halloween season a redux analysis of Michael Myers.
Nice to see this underrated gem finally getting some much needed love.
Love the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack in the background
Yes! I'm glad he used that music
I hope they keep the soundtrack intact in the upcoming remake. Can't wait.
Yes! This was such a great movie that so few have seen.
Very underrated gem from both Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Thanks for making a video on it! Please consider a video on Ramsay Bolton, walder frey and the mountain!
Underrated classic. I've been a fan of it for a long time. Gonna have to check out the original now.
A really good movie featuring two legendary actors, and a great analysis to match it, amazing work as always !
Would love to see an analysis of Oryx from the Desting games, more specifically the 'Books of Sorrow' and an analysis of the sword logic philosophy
I watched the Al Pacino version so many years ago, but after your insights I feel I must watch both again immediately. My mind is utterly soothed by your voice. Thank you!
Can you analyse Oliver Quick from saltburn. He is such a twisted character.
He's literally a good guy.
Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors and I had a week a couple of weeks back where I watched nothing but his movies for several days in a row. I saw this one for the first time then and he absolutely nails the character.
I know he is most known for his comedy (and he was a great comedian as well so I get it), but I feel like he isn't given enough credit for his darker or more serious roles. Actually, some of my most favorite movies are the ones where he takes on darker characters.
He truly was an amazing actor with such a big reach. I miss him greatly. Rest in peace, Robin.
New subscriber, this channel is entertaining and thought provoking. One of my favorite psychological thrillers, RIP Robin Williams. 🙏
Amazing video as always Vile! Your sublime timing for this content is second to none! Longtime fan! You never dissapoint.
RIP Robin Williams. Comdedic genius yet incredible serious actor. Huge fan of both him and you! Please do A remake of michael myers!
Great video. Please do one on the characters from The Wild Bunch. It has some incredibly complex and nuanced characters that should make a great video.
That’d be great
This was interesting.
I also found a villain you should analyze in a future episode. That is Will Teasle and his police force from Rambo First Blood. That one deserves an episode.
Thank you for acknowledging this movie. I'm guessing you've probably reviewed One Hour Photo already, but for this to have come out the same year; I love that Williams played two great villains in 2002.
I was literally just thinking about this movie, then you upload a video about it
Losing Robin Williams is just as painful today as it ever was. I love his work but it always hurts inside to watch.
RIP Robin Williams, Insomnia is grotesquely underrated as a film
Hope to see these get covered in future episodes

I recently saw Nolan's rendition of Insomnia I really enjoyed it. It definitely made me think more about the moral underpinnings of my beliefs of who is evil and who just made mistake.
Hey man I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your videos, I always listen to them at work with my AirPods. Much love brotha ❤🎉
0:05 One of your best "Hello everyone" yet! I know each time i hear those words im in for the Best video of the day!😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
List of suggestions for Analyzing Evil Ridley (Metroid)
The Director from Nimona
Catra (She-Ra and The Princesses of Power)
Scarlemagne (Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeast)
Martin Walker (Spec Ops: The Line)
The World of the video game Stray
The characters of The Hateful Eight
Ma-Ma (Dredd)
Tighten (Megamind)
A great film Nolan’s most underrated film and the original is a subtle underrated masterpiece. But please one on Nina Meyers from “24” and Jenny Schecter from “The L Word” would be amazing!
Jenny Schecter was such a psychopath
I would love to see you cover Handsome Jack from the Borderlands games.
This guy analised TWO movies in detail in a 20 min. video. No fluff, very objective. Amazing!
analyzing evil: walter sullivan and the town of silent hill
I can't wait for analyzing evil: "Cancer".
This and Memento are my favorite Nolan films. As someone who has chronic bouts of insomnia, watching the impact of the insomnia Will struggles with in the film hit home. I could not live in places with "white nights", that's for sure.
Robin Williams didn't play villainous roles often, but when he did he did fantastic (and very disturbing) work.
I eagerly await the day when you finally make a 40K video. Perhaps... Analyzing Evil: The Imperium of Man, or, Analyzing Evil: The Servants of Chaos.
I've needed to rewatch these films for a long time. Thank you for the reminder.
Oh man this is one of my favorite films, it keeps so much of the original feel of the first film but adds some great American touches, I forgot all about these films untill I just saw this post
I miss Robin WI every day
You should cover Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events. That would be a banger video.
What could be a quick and easy video is “the carver” from Nip/Tuck. He’s pretty well explained in his motives but I find there is almost nothing online about this character despite being a big deal when he appeared on screen at the time.
My two villains I’d love to see covered would be Dio Brando from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Darkseid from the DC Universe
I like how you're doing theses more often
I would love to see a video on Neil McCauley from "Heat".
A suggestion:
Analyzing Evil: Park Yeon-jin from The Glory.
Loved the vid! As I’m watching this I learned I have just been accepted into my dream university, so thanks for another great moment of my day😁. Could a potential episode be on Rose the Hat from Doctor Sleep?
Would recommend Tohru Adachi for a future video.
Finally, the one I was waiting for . Thank you ❤❤❤
Great video, you should do In Bruges.
Wow I’ve never heard of this movie. Will be streaming it soon. And I love Robin Williams and his movies.
The Prestige is Nolan’s masterpiece. Can we get a video on Alfred Borden and Lord Caldlow?
I like how you call him Lord Caldlow, his "real" name
@@joeyk107 :-) the most overlooked twist in the film.
Dude! Thank you so much for this video! It made my day.
Analyzing Evil: The misery and hopelessness of Threads(1984).
this movie is so underrated
Been waiting for this one! Love your content! Please keep making them! Hearth please ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Damn good analysis Vile! I love your use of the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack. It fits beautifully as Jonas and Will could easily fit into that series.
Omg I LOVE this movie!!!
I’ve commented this before on previous videos but i want to comment it again because i know this would be a great addition to your collections of analysis. Kane from the Legacy of Kane series would be such a treat and is by far one of the best character stories in video game history. Really hope that you see this and consider it.
You're the Best man! Your timinng is impecable 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Hey Vile! I'd love to hear your take on the villian from Rob Roy, Archibald Cunningham. Big fan of your videos, keep up the great work!
Wow. I posted about this movie like a month ago in the subreddit now here it is
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I was initially curious just to see Robin Williams in a "serious" role. So imagine my surprise and joy that not only did he nail it, he nailed it as the story's villain!
That's 2 films going on my watchlist
i just rented it for $3, pretty good! loved the setup of themes of re-writing the truth that came even before you meet Robin Williams character. while i could kinda pick up on the trajectory of the plot, i still was hooked wanting to know how the two main characters would ultimately face off and how it would go down. good stuff
I think Jonas has the worst fate here as he is not guilt free so he will go on living but his own mind will relentlessly torment him.
Jonas looks like he'll manage to sleep just fine after some adjustment...
Still have to finish this movie. Only got halfway through. Viktor Reznov from Call of Duty Black Ops 1 would be a kool video
Suggestion:
Robert de Niro - Heat movie
😁👍
Now that the show is over, I would love to see you do a Eren Yeager one of these!
Barris, from The Experiment, would make for an awesome video. Highly recommend watching the movie, if you haven't already.
Great choice!!! Definitely underrated films.
Hey Vile could you cover the Lich from Adventure Time or maybe Nyarlothotep from H.P Lovecraft? They're both fascinating agents of entropy.
Love your channel, and the new thumbnails look great!
Amazing synchronicity that you should release a video on "Insomnia" at around the same time as the Alienworlds channel has done a cover of the Insomnia theme.
Would love to see a video on Chrollo Lucilfer from Hunter x Hunter sometime in the future.
Two great films with great actors
My man you have outdone yourself I think this time😊 Bravo sir,Bravo
A very underrated movie! I always say that this movie doesn't get the respect it deserves. I understand that it's not on the same spectacle of Nolan's other films, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Insomnia is still a great straight forward crime thriller!
The performances especially deserve more recognition! Pacino and Williams are both excellent in the movie and somehow their performances aren't talked about very much when their careers are discussed. A true shame!
Longtime subscriber here. Would absolutely love to see a video on the Chaos Space Marines, or their traitorous Primarchs (like Fulgrim, Angron, Kurze, etc) from Warhammer 40K.
How about an analyzing evil on Harry Waters from the film In Burges
In light of your recent John Kramer remaster, a video on his accomplices/copy-cats would be appreciated.
Boyd Crowder from Justified
finally love this movie to death heavily underrated!!!
ANALYSISING EVIL TIGHTEN FROM MEGAMIND
I loved this movie. I only picked it up b/c I’m alaskan and like to see how it’s portrayed in movies and see when they’re obviously not in Alaska but this was actually a great movie, good story and acting
You should do Daemon Targaryen
Analyzing Evil: Ricky Spanish
I appreciate the Silent Hill music. I would love to see a Silent Hill 2 episode on James Sunderland.
I like the silent hill music
