I had a blast recording this with these great banjos. My preferred axe is the Artisan Goodtime Special. It's got a nuance that makes it a real joy to play. I should also note that the setup out of the boxes was perfect. Action was great and heads tuned correctly. Made the music making easy and fun. Thanks Deering!
What's the difference between the GS and the AS internally (or externally)that makes the AS sound so much better? After this video I'm so glad I chose the AS.
Excellent comparison, thank you for doing this. I think they each have their own unique sound and each one could shine depending on the circumstance. But, if I had to pick one, I'd pick the Artisan Goodtime Special. I just love the warmth and the tone. Hopefully someday I can add one to my banjo collection. FYI, my entire banjo collection consists of a Goodtime and a Goodtime Two, lol (not a huge collection, but I love both of them). 😄. Nicely played by the way.
Hmmmm...My Favorite? THE ARTIST! Great stuff Bennett...LOVE Deering Banjos! And you make them all sound great. I've had my Goodtime 2 for 20 years now. It's been all over the country and even on a cruise ship. My travel and practice banjo that I almost always play at my One Man Banjo gigs, along with my MONSTER custom GDL peghead CALICO that I've had for 10 years. Deering is hands down The GREAT American Banjo!
I have a Goodtime five string and a Goodtime 2 tenor. I just ordered a Goodtime 2 Deco Plectrum. No, it’s not a standard model. Yes, Deering will build one as a custom order. Yes, I am absolutely looking forward to getting it. These videos are further proof that it’s going to be a great instrument.
ditto on the Artisan Goodtime special....probably the most expensive, but also the most expensive/rich sounding....but yeah, they all have their place in the banjo eco-system.
Hey up. If i want to learn plectrum banjo and 5 string banjo should i just get a 5 string and play it like a 4 string when i want to and a 5 string when i want to or should i get both a 4 and 5 string banjo?
You certainly could take off the 5th string and usually drop the 4th to C and play it like a plectrum and then you can always add the 5th back if you prefer it
