  • My home town of Coggeshall in Essex has some great walks to offer. One of those walks is along a beautiful stretch of the River Blackwater. It's steeped in history as far back as the Vikings which, by all accounts, sounded pretty brutal. The Blackwater stretches from Maldon to Bocking where it then becomes the Pant. It has 2 tributaries, the Chelmer in Chelmsford and the Brain in Witham.
    The walk boasts a magical quality to it. Willow lined and snaking through the stunning Essex countryside, The Blackwater offers a huge variety of wildlife to please any budding photographer or naturalist. If you're looking for somewhere to blow-out those lockdown cobwebs, you'd be hard-pushed to find somewhere more beautiful than the Blackwater trail.
    I'd love to hear about your experiences and what wildlife you see in the comments section below.

    We did this walk today after watching this .
    Have lived in Coggeshall for 11 years but despite nearly crippling my husband carrying our bikes over dick Nunns bridge a few years ago we had never walked up by the river .
    Saw the swans nesting .
    Thanks Simon. Really lovely unspoilt walk and lovely film and music

      Me too 😊 They are super quick. You'd need to sit and wait for for quite some time and in exactly the right position... unless you know where they're nesting 😘

    Hi Simon, do you know if fishing Is permitted on the stretch between Bradwell and Kelvedon? I'm in coggeshall and have always wanted to catch a chub from the river.

      I think it used to be KDAA but never seen anyone patrolling. It's mad hight at the mo but apparently on the first S bend it's pretty good. Remember having chub to 4lb there but that was a long time ago.

    Did you say the other bridge was called the Gravel Wash Crossing?

    • @SimonMcCabe
      @SimonMcCabe  3 года назад

      Not sure what it's called. It a service road for Cemex I think.

      @@SimonMcCabe I have heard people call it “gravel” *something* bridge but the 2nd word is always mumbled and it’s the same on your video at 6.56. The subtitles can’t pick it up either, thinks you said Gravel Was Crossing. Also heard it called the old military bridge. Couldn’t find if it actually had a name.
      Thanks. Good video by the way.
