Lololol! I wish I would've seen this video 2 weeks ago! -32° here in Louisville, KY. at Christmas. My furnace finally gave up and died. ... (R.I.P.). Despite having water running throughout my house, my pipes froze , and BUSTED. Yep, when it rains it pours! Furnace man coming today, hopefully, plummer this weekend!! Fingers crossed! I'm gonna ask my plummer about this tape! Thanks again! 👍😘🥰
Good video guys! Thank you. I live in Illinois and my pipes froze last night. Consider making more How To videos, please. P.S. Jim, Superman fan here too!
Thanks for the lesson, I'm 66 and tried of going under my house every winter to thaw out my pipes in the bitter cold. Your both cute explaining how it's done.
Heat tape works great for short distances and last 2+ years. Installation can be a heck of a job(crawling under the home, etc.). ReadyTemp uses intermittently warm water circulating through both the hot and cold water lines to prevent the pipes from freezing. Using a fraction of the energy consumed by heat tape and last 8 to 10 years with no annual inspections required. The effectiveness and minimal energy lost to outside air is obvious. Installs under the sink in 20 minutes using 4 hoses, than just plug it in.
Carolina Supply,Inc, I heard that heat tape should not be covered because there is a fuse in the line and that covering it will cause the tape to over heat and then cause the fuse to blow. is there any truth to that?
I wondering if anybody can help me understand something. I’ve recently bought a trailer and the previous owner put the water pipes inside and he installed heat tape on the pipes, is it necessary to have it plugged in all winter long? He never paid for gas so the trailer was apparently freezing so maybe that’s why he put them inside and with heat tape of them?
my electrician just installed heat tape the regular type orange black with a Thermostat with w black dot , so when he left I looked at the plug and it lights , he put round foam insulation around the pipe going up into the mobile home , yet at the end he just laid the extra heat wire over a shut off valve very very loosely and not tapped either and the black dot hanging down not taped to the pipe , he said by not tapping it to the pipe its better because it measures the outside temperature and goes on and off . is this OK
Rondo Schiavoni yes, you want to get an accurate reading. So the temp gauge at end of cable needs to be free. You can have it dangle free, that would be better
Iva Lindsay you can add insulation over the cable, in fact it is recommended. What you don't want to do is overlap the cable onto itself. It can cause an arc and start a fire.
Im not trying to be an ass but pex manufacturers state to NEVER use adhesives on pex pipe as the chemicals embed in the plastic and over time will leach into your water supply. There are diff tapes with diff temps obviously but youre better off securring the heat tape, cable etc by using wire ties. If using metal straps you can protect the heat strip and pipe by using heat shrink tubing over the strap that contacts those surfaces.
First time even living in a mobile home. Heat tape was all bad under it. Looks like you used the Frost King tape which is all they sell around here. My question comes in here with the insulation. Don't call Frost King unless you want to talk to idiots. And FYI i have the gray tubing. Question is all the hardware stores here say i could use the 1/8 in Armaflex wrap or the 3 in x 30 ft x 1 in foil fiberglass wrap. Well Frost King says NO to using their tape on Mobile home and NO to the foil wrap that is 1" has to be 1/2" thick and NO to the Armaflex. R value is to high. Help!!! I have Both wraps is any of them ok to use as the Support help is across the dam ocean and i could tell they was reading it off the dam card. Thanks in advance for your time.
Yes. SOME of them can. Read the instructions. I have EASYHEAT freeze free. It says you can overlap it. Most of the heat tapes are only for supply lines. The one I have can be used on supply lines or on drain lines. Most can not be used on drain lines, there has to be water in the lines or the heater will overheat and burn through. Most you cannot overlap because they will over heat and burn through. Read the instructions and/or call the manufacturer or distributor. Be safe, they can burn your house down.
@@ascosche Never said put it on a Busted pipe Kiddo . Its as easy to replace the busted pipe ? Used this heat trace a long time it can start Fires if not installed correctly, Most manufacturers wont you to replace it each year . ok for a faucet or short pipe .(maybe) what ever
@@rlr4294 "Most manufacturers wont you to replace it each year." No offense but that's nuts and completely unnecessary, unless of course someone cross-spiraled to the Nth degree and/or lost functionality of the self-regulating thermostat. I've installed thousands of feet of tape for 30+ years. I've NEVER had to replace a single run. Spiraling sparingly is absolutely fine. If overlapping in a single spot or two like an outside spigot tee'd off the same line, just put a little piece of pipe foam between overlap if you want.
Heat tape?.......that looks like an electrical cable.......oh, wait....the electrical cable is attached to the pipe with black electrical tape......mmmmmm.......maybe that's the tape...... Anyway........the pipe comes out of the ground, through a main house valve and then into the house......where do you place the thermostat?.......right where the pipe comes out of the ground, in the middle of the pipe or right before it enters the house? Also, what "brand" is the electrical tape you're using?
"Heat tape" is a brand of "electrical cable" that prevents water pipes from freezing. Essentially the same product they are installing. Much like "duck" tape is what most people call "duct" tape
Hi Guys thank you ...next time SPEAK UP and think about what you're going to say first act more like teachers because that's what you've become GOOD LUCK

Thank you gentlemen. You have saved me a lot of money. This is not rocket science life I was told.
Thx guys, I’m doing it
today in PA.

How did you thaw your pipes
I second this

Couple of winners right there! :)
What did they win?
They won at life. They have their knowledge and they shared it. Big win for them and us.
thank you gentlemen! very helpful!
Thanks for the how-to demo. Much appreciated.

Sweet advice! Thanks guys!
Don't forget that in many locations, and also for the tape itself, they insist on having it plugged into a GFI circuit Outlet.
I am going to install heat tape right away. Thanks folks!
A life saver💙
Thanks for the info!
listening from Texas... lol
Helpful. The black/gray thermostat is placed against the pipe.
Do any have thoughts on how to frostproof a hose bib that is a frost-free spigot but still freezes, it is buried in a wall, no access
The guy with the green hat belongs on tv.
the last comment and head bob with confidence is amazing " that is heat tape 101"
Does the heat tape warm the water at all? Thank you so much for taking the time to help the rest of us.
no
Great, now come be my cheerleader while I install all this stuff under my mobile home. 😜
Thank you
Carolina Supply,Inc, I heard that heat tape should not be covered because there is a fuse in the line and that covering it will cause the tape to over heat and then cause the fuse to blow. is there any truth to that?
It can also cause fires because it can catch the insulation on fire

some recommend that the thermostat NOT be covered by the insulation
What if the heat tape is longer than the area you need to apply it to?
@@jaredshepherd7205 It makes sense. Thank you for replying!
These two need to go back to the bar that they just left.
Carolina Supply,Inc, Does that tape have a temperature control ?
jim Nicosia Yes they told you about the thermostat
my plumber should watch this... I got frozen pipes this morning.
I thought it says on the package not to wrap up/cover your heat tape. can cause overheating and then a fire
Iva Lindsay you can add insulation over the cable, in fact it is recommended. What you don't want to do is overlap the cable onto itself. It can cause an arc and start a fire.
Yeah you can, using the insulated cover they use.
Not if you use self-regulating cable. It decreases power as temperature rises. No fire hazard.
that heat tape goes on straight like they did, but the whole thing has to be on the pipe, the video is just a demostration so you get the idea.
HOW TO TEST PIPE HEAT CABLE TO KNOW IT ITS STILL WORKING UNDER A MOBILE HOME
Thanx guys

Where can I buy ?
Alright, Take 45. Season 1 Episode 1 is a wrap, finally. 🤣
I realize it's kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to stream new series online?
Can i used this tape if the pipes are of PPR(PLASTIC) and can i control the temperature
yes ucan
Instructions unclear: pre-sticky stuff stuck to dog.
can u use zip tie instead of electrical tape?
yes.

Why do they say heat trace should be installed at a 4 or 8 o'clock position vs, say 6 o'clock,
Lol!! “Pre sticky stuff!” That would be known as adhesive sir!!

You MISSED a VERY important part....NEVER wrap heat tape touching another part of the heat tape. It will start a fire by overheating.
Can you let some heat tap over lap
No ! Heat tape should NEVER overlap.

lot easier to just replace the busted pipe ?
I don't think you'd do this to a busted pipe kiddo...😄😆 it's to prevent it from getting to that point.
