    Correct idea but costly. Single Union can be sufficient

      Thank you for letting me know what you think about this! really great , I totally agree with what you said ! However, if it is installed like that, although it costs more to install, it will be effective in the future for the process of repairing and replacing the valve when it is broken? What do you think of this comment? Thanks for your enthusiasm!

    Here in the US, if I was concerned about easy valve replacement, I would just use a Sharkbite valve. Otherwise, if replacement was necessary, I would just cut out a section of pipe and use cemented PVC couplers to connect a short stub on either side.

    You only need one disconnect coupling, this is because once the coupling is un-threaded, the valve can simple turn to spin off the male connection on the other side.

      what do you mean it would spin?.. both union when facing each other goes in clockwise and the other side is counterclockwise.. to make it spin with water pressure you need that two union facing in both clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

  • @schsch2390
    @schsch2390 Год назад +3

    That is the way I assembled my 160' deep well pipe, sans valve, but with couplers between each 20' section of pipe. Continuous poly is usually used but pulling the pump was a lot easier with the couplers when you don't have a crane and winch. Your technique (with one coupler as noted below) is a useful approach to replacing or adding a valve.

    1. Only PVC valve (both end female socket type) will be just sufficient to replace.
    2. At last you installed the valve diametrically opposite to that you saw in starting of video for correct direction of its lever.

    why have 2 unions when you only need 1? better yet: 1) use a sharkbite shut off (the 2 unions will more than pay for it). or with the shutoff (threaded) shown 2) use a single sharkbite straight connect. 3) sharkbite Quick Connect Push to Connect/John Guest Speedfit Union fitting (these are made out of pex). If its its outdoor or irrigation, use an orbit PVC-Lock fitting (push on). All of these will be cheaper and easier than 2 unions and all will allow shut off to be removed if it fails.

    The purpose of using union in this TUT in next changing of stop valve you won't cut a piece of pipe. Nice idea.

  • @stevem1081
    @stevem1081 3 месяца назад +1

    They sell the pvc valve with the unions already on them, much cheaper and less chance of leaks since no threads with teflon tape are used. and they are much shorter than what you put together. If for some reason you can't find the unions and need to fix a problem right away, a valve and 4 90's will work. glue the 90's on the valve and see how much you need to cut from the pipe with the other 2 90's on the pipe. Yes it will not be straight inline as before, so it might not work in some cases, but for most, it will.

    The usual problem here is when the teflon you put on both ends of the valve turned out to be insufficient. You turn on the water, and the teflon starts leaking.
    But you glued both ends already, so you have to repeat the process all over again and buy another set of fittings.

    Don't forget to chamfer the pipe ends, that way the PVC cement doesn't get pushed out and you get a proper chemical weld. Using primer would be best too. Not saying that what you did won't last for years, but for just a little more effort, you could have much stronger joints. This matters even more for elbows. TLDR; follow the instructions on the can of PVC cement exactly for the strongest, longest lasting joints.

    This guy seems to know what he's doing, so well done. Very educating video. Generally the problem with plumbers is that if you ask 10 of them how to solve plumbing problem X, they'll come back with 11 different solutions and then they'll start arguing with each other that everyone else is an imbecile and a fraud.

    In New Zealand the valve can be clamped onto the pipe with an adaptor and a clamping tool. No glue required and the clamping requires only 3 seconds. The clamp connection is stronger than the plastic pipe.

    Mistaken installation of union union must gap around 10 cm. From the valve if pipe have more distance.

    Why spend for unions? Simply cut the pvc and reconnect with a coupling for later repair when needed. Less expense and less complicated.

    so that's how to take a section out and repair - with that fitting. What's that - a 'compression' fitting? And we can trust them? It'll be watertight? What pipework are we talking about here? It would be good if it specified, maybe. We need for high pressure (i.e. mains presssure) pvc pipe. I don't think this is that. It if then they have a glue I don't think we get around here. All our hp pvc glues seem to come in two parts: a primer and then a glue. And our mains pressure will blow through many compression fittings and bad match screw on in my experience.
    I just cut out a cracked 3/4" hp pvc join and put a section in and used a joiner at one end and at the other had to cut the ridge out of the centre of the joiner so it would slide along the pipe. Then put the section in with it slid back (primed inside already) along the new section I was putting in then glued the join (couldn't glue inside the 'slider' of course) and then slid the 'slider' over the join. It seems to have worked okay. Cost me less than $10. I think this effort here is going to be more than $50 with four new fittings there including two compression things.
    But sure its easier this way and its not so much money after all. I just worry about compression fittings. Are they really trustworthy....
