Great plan. I’ve tried so many diets in my 43 years of life and it always comes down to simplicity because when you go to the dark place we all go to and your not motivated and just don’t give a damn anymore about dieting simplify everything will save you and not to mention that cheat day every week is Golden . Don’t be afraid to eat like a savage on your cheat day! I’ve lost 37 pounds on this diet steady and I sometimes mess up and have 2 cheat days so just learn this diet like the back of your hand and it will be your best friend

I lost 23 pounds my first 2 weeks in...got worried about loose skin and stopped...but now I have red light therapy to boost collagen and tone and tighten skin to go alongside everything...200 pounds to lose and I'm looking forward to it!

one thing to consider is just because spinach *has* certain macronutrients, doesn't mean your body will absorb all of them, so it may be worth looking into the bioavailability of the nutrients for the foods you are considering.

The most hopeful content regarding Slowcarb. Keep up the good work. I would like to know how much black beans you would eat on a normal day.

    • @MauriceMoves
      @MauriceMoves  5 лет назад +3

Hello Georgi! Thanks for the comment and question! The canned black beans I use are 398ml per can. I started SCD in week 1 using 2 cans per day, but that was WAY too much for me to finish. So starting halfway through week 1, I just cut down to 1 can per day when I cook all three meals in the morning, and *if* I feel hungrier on a given day, then for dinner, I'll open another can and cook it (saving most of that second can for the following day). It's rarely happened though, maybe just 4 or 5 days in the 30 day challenge where I opened a second can. For me, having 4 eggs and spinach, with about 1/3 cans of beans fills me up so much that I'm truly satisfied for most of the day, and definitely back to being fully satisfied after lunch and dinner. But the most important thing is that on page 72 of the book, Tim Ferriss writes to "eat as much of the [allowed] foods as you would like" and not count calories", so when I *do* use another can, there's zero guilt. Thanks again for the comment, and, I know it seems silly, but if you'd like to enter the contest for the smart scale and the indoor-grill, you can simply copy-paste this original comment to *THAT* video's comment section to enter for your chance to win :) Link here: ruclips.net/video/33o0go_TGKM/видео.html

This was super helpful. I’m doing something similar. I boiled my chicken and then shredded it in the food processor and loaded it on top of either black beans or refried beans. I’m also having spinach and eggs for breakfast. I made a big pot of dal for my legumes at breakfast to go with the spinach and eggs. So breakfast is the same everyday. Then lunch and dinner is the same everyday as well. I’m hoping this works for me. How are you going to do the cheat/free days? That’s my only concern. In the past if I “cheat” on a diet it spirals me out of control again.

You're incorrect, 100g of spinach has about 170mg of potassium. So if 5 cups is 150g you're only getting 255mg out of the recommended 4700mg daily intake.

Could you clarify if the black beans are pre-cooked, canned beans, or raw beans that you cook and prepare yourself? The last option probably isn't ideal for a meal you want to prepare in 30 minutes, as beans take a long time to cook. And do you add anything else to it? Thanks in advance.

Hi. Just started watching your videos and I know from more recent videos you have lost weight and are doing a slightly different protocol now but just wanted to tell you that 1) all that spinach could end up giving you kidney stones (very painful). 2) sodium is as important if not more so than the other minerals you listed.

I appreciate your doing such a detailed chronicle of your experience with various programs, but your numbers for the nutritive value of spinach are way off. Most nutrition data tables take a cup of spinach as being roughly 30 grams. 30g of spinach has only 167 grams of potassium, 29.7 mg of calcium, and 23.7 mg of magnesium. That means, to get 4700mg of potassium, you'd have to eat just over 28 cups of spinach measured raw (not 5.6). To get 400mg of magnesium, you'd have to eat almost 17 cups. And to get 1000 mg of calcium, you'd have to eat almost 34 cups. So, at the amounts you are eating, you are probably still quite deficient in potassium and calcium, although if you're eating fairly large portions of black beans you might be OK on magnesium (a cup of cooked black beans has 120 mg of magnesium and 611 mg of potassium). Are the nutrient content numbers you used to make your calculations from Ferris's book? If so, he's providing dangerously erroneous information. I don't think there's a way to do this food program healthily without taking some supplements.

  • @Ix10n70

Im a little confused as to why you eat so much spinach, also I am confused as to why there would be a potassium defeciency with this diet. A mere 100 grams of red lentils contain 800mg of potassium alone. One small can of white beans (250g) contains 1200mg of potassium. Even the 4 eggs you eat contain about 300 mg. IMO you eat too much spinach. lol.
    For comparison.
    I would eat about 2000 kcal a day. (45g fat / 170g carbs / 180g Prot)
My last day contained 6200mg of potassium, 700 mg Magnesium and 1330 mg of Calcium (Mineral Water does the trick)
    Great video though. Subbed.

    • @MauriceMoves

Thanks so much for the breakdown: your reasoning makes a ton of sense. For me, as someone who didn’t really cook and wanted to start “easy” (and by that, I mean make limited decisions), it was the lowest resistance decision based on what Tim Ferriss wrote in the book.
Needing 4700mg of potassium a day, I looked at my constants: eggs, black beans, and chicken breast.
The eggs were about 400mg, the black beans (at least on the label said “not a significant source”, and the chicken breast about 200mg). With that I still need ~4000mg.
I really took the book to heart, and just saw on the list of SCD-compliant foods, that spinach was the only one that contained all three (mag, calc, pot), so just followed it to the letter lol.
That being said, I AM definitely much more comfortable with cooking in general, so the ability to explore and have a much more well-rounded combination of foods to get all the nutrients like you’ve shown makes a ton of sense (not to mention that for many, too much spinach can cause kidney stones due to the oxalates).
Thanks SO much for subscribing! 💪🏼😎

@@MauriceMoves Thanks for your answer. It isn't wrong by all means. It is funny that you mention the lack of potassium in black beans. I am really surprised to see that black beans dont have any, while ANY other bean (white/soy/etc) does have tons of it. "The more you know" lol.
Also I saw your latest videos and if I understand correctly, you will now try a ketogenic livestyle. I thought it was funny, because I switched from keto to slow carb. But I understand why you want to do it and I can guarantee you, as a random person on the internet, that the keto diet is a wonderdiet regarding your health, especially if you want to destroy diabetes. It is incredible and dont you dare listen to those nay sayers who think keto is harmful. It totally isnt.
My tip for the beginning ... Just try to get the principles of this diet down before you try to do the OMAD variation. The first few weeks can be very hard and it takes experience to know how to handle different situations. Find your go to foods that are keto friendly, try out what you like and stick to some meals that make you happy (And yes, sometimes it doesnt feel like a diet at all, there are very very glorious meals you can cook in keto).
      Good luck! :)

Tim Ferris, the author of the 4 Hour Body, first wrote the "4 Hour Work Week" about productivity hacking and accomplishing everything you would in a 40 week in 4 hours. He has since written the 4 Hour body about productivity hacking in health and how to get the most out (in terms of energy and health) of putting in the minimum time, energy and effort possible.
