    Really interesting to hear your thoughts and thanks for sharing them in a considerate way! It's a really difficult challenge and a lot of pressure to try and please as many players as possible while also making sure we as the developers are having fun (as its also supposed to be fun for us too and just something that's done in our free time) so delivering feedback like this is super helpful and appreciated.
    Regarding the AA unit cards, I totally understand and I think it's more of a byproduct of the actual unit models itself (something Galu actually implemented a long time ago and I am still on the fence about personally). In regards to the new unit cards, I'm not entirely sure how you can represent the tier but clearly showing their weapons was one of the main objectives with the new cards so hopefully that makes it easier to spot. You will will also be able to automatically sort the stacks for player and AI based so we could add some way to also ensure the highest tier units are at the beginning of the stack for example.
    For a bit of context around the Dale script, the two people who originally designed it stepped down from modding so the rest of us have been trying our best to implement their original ideas as best we can. There is no completely evil choice, it's more you choose to open trade with the Rhunnic people rather than siding with them 😊
    Also, battle AI won't be changing except for better AI during sieges so they actually attack from multiple gates and just generally are less stupid. I think that's everything 😅

      Once again, thank you for your input and thanks for working to make the mod better for everyone.
      Being able to sort stacks of units by different characteristics would be incredible both for the AI armies and player. I'm guessing that would carry over into the battle so you don't have to waste time resorting your army every battle. It would also solve much of of my concerns around assessing armies at a glance.
      I am glad to hear the battle AI is largely remaining the same as I thought battle AI in V5 was a big improvement particularly with siege defences and some QOL changes in field battles. So, if there are some changes to how they attack, like at multiple gates that will be fantastic, harder in some ways, but new, fresh and hopefully more of a challenge.
      I am most excited (if you didn't pick it up in the video 😁) to hear about the changes to campaign AI. I for one, and I'm not the only one, have become more and more hostile towards the "AI sitting in their region with 10 stacks refusing to attack their sworn enemies who have completely undefended regions bordering them and won't even defend their won lands when attacked" situation. For me, this is probably the single best piece of news from the dev diary. I am concerned about the AI not being limited by borders, my concern is primarily for the fun of the game. I might make an already grindy game even grindier. But, if that fixes the passive AI I'm sold.
      Thank you again for your and the teams work on what I constantly say is the best total war mod period. I'm excited for a new campaign feel in V6.

    1:08:52 agree with all of your points, especially this one! I’m also worried that the in-game models will reflect the unit cards with fancy detailed units for mid-tier units.

      Unfortunately, I don't think there is any going back on this point. I really didn't think there was anything wrong with the existing unit cards and all this effort that has gone into redoing them could have been put to better use on gameplay related topics. In my opinion, all it has done is reduce gameplay information.

    One thing about the dev diary I couldn't wrap my head around is the misplaced allocation of effort into features that seemed miscellaneous. The unit cards are one example. But, what I mostly dislike is the AI change that affects enemy pathing, particularly the fact that they will not only attack border settlements now. In my opinion, this will only make players have to cheese sieges more and delay building their economy in regions they can't supply troops to, especially early game. We already know how punishing early game is for the player so why add on to it? However, as you said in the video, if bordering allies are more keen to help you out in sieges, then this could be a good thing.
    Dale also didn't need that big of a rework. The horse script in particular is something I'm not too hopeful about.

      Agreed on all points. This is spot on 'misplaced allocation of effort into features that seemed miscellaneous'. I think I can only point towards my observation of the management of the mods development, seems quite multidirectional without Galu at the helm. Time will tell if that is a good thing.

    happy new year! great episode, I know as bad of a settlement hobbiton is, being able to lay claim to it and then michel delving would give you access to arthedain units once the script is completed so michel delving is another source of steel bowmen, royal guard, and knights which might make it slightly nicer. but with enedwaith right there you'd have to keep pushing through the shire for a better settlement to occupy and that would be tricky until you get the bree doom stack.
    but only a few more turns until you get the sellsword general and no army can withstand you then.

      also as much as they are the worse of the 3 archers stat wise, cardolen sentinals are my favorite of the unlocked units and i can't wait to see you fielding them

      Definitely will be taking Hobbiton and beyond, just a pain to have to defend there.. Longbottom to the south isn't a nice defence either so I'll have to push to Michel Delving and Cor Wilishar.

    The discussion of early to mid 90s movies was my jam. Did we go to the same school in America? I loved those Robin Hood movies. RIP Alan Rickman who stole every scene and the entire sound stage on Prince of Thieves.
    Also I was as emotionally invested in the archer militia unit with 2 archers that lived with Dunedain Chris Pratt in Ost in Edhil for like six parts as I am with my own two kids.

      I spent many hours watching taped movies on the old VHS, memorised which adds came before the movie starting so fast forwarding the ads became routine. It is the type of happy memory that would fly me to Neverland.
      You can rest easy, the Woodland Hunters are have some deep tissue massages as reward for their efforts.

    What I think EUR has done really well is the distinguishability of the Ar Adunaim units ny the colour scheme and styling of the cards

    If you’re under siege and don’t know what the enemy army looks like, just sally out which allows you to view the enemy army build and retreat back into the settlement

    Just a few things that may be interesting for you.
    For a decade I collected literal thousands of hours in m2tw, it is by far my most played game. I played various mods extensively (like SSHIP and elder scrolls TW) but to me DAC just stuck as the most polished and fleshed out mod, while also having a fun simplicity about it.
    Especially V5 is awesome with its scripts and settlements/units.
    However the big point that let me deviate away from it, is the campaign AI becoming Passive. I know you noticed it extensively as well, but for a game designed to be rather „slow“, AI that has starting affinity or alliances with you to be passive and AI that just stops doing anything around turn 80 onwards in a 400 turn timeframe is pretty frustrating. I like early enemies getting buffs (I’m kind of the rusher, because I like it hard), so that’s good.
    HERE the interesting part for you @EPM:
    I started playing EUR after winning with every faction in V5 apart from Mordor/Dol Guldur/ Goblins (just hate trash without armour).
    This is not aimed at telling you to play EUR, like the usual „EPM PlAy EUR ItS sUcH GoOd GaMe“ just a few things I noticed after playing it extensively:
    - EUR‘s AI does NOT become passive!
    However there is a caveat: I noticed recently that whenever you are at war with a faction, the other factions seems to stop attacking that particular faction.
    So also not perfect, but still more enjoyable.
    - This one will hurt many a people‘s feelings but Militia Garrisons in EUR are different. They don’t give garrisons units, but 2 Free Upkeep slots and the normal Law Boosts, cost for the buildings have been removed.
    This makes the Defense actually so much harder and I love it, otherwise it was always the cheesy 3 upgraded garrison units + some archers and a governor, AI sends small contingent because they don’t consider the Militia garrison and get slaughtered.
    It overall makes the game much harder and therefore more fun.
    - I don’t mind the unit variety of the mod, factions still have their unique touch. People talk about the dwarf goat riders and the lore I get it, but they are slower than human infantry so not a normal cav unit.
    - even more scripts to make the later game more spicy, like gundabad having a ring script etc..
    - Another Big One: Armies Sally out the gates properly, as well as Fornost and other custom settlements getting attacked properly.
    - much faster end turns (likely because of the garrison scripts and EOP)
    - Of course I have a Bias towards evil humans, but the design for the new Rhun and AA units is absolutely insane 👌🏾
    Some negatives:
    - Not regular crashes but the occasional one, however EUR has multiple Autosaves and Quicksaves.
    - small stuff like some silversurfers etc. (I fixed them myself, but it might be annoying for you as a RUclipsr)
    Just wanted to share some of my experiences with EUR so far, because I feel that many people didn’t really try it out extensively so far.
    They planned some insane stuff for the future which I’m excited about, but I agree with you like with V6, I have the feeling that Galu handled it like a CEO and now the Submods seem a bit more loosely handled.

      Thanks for your input. I appreciate you framing your points with evidence and thought. You've given me much to think on so I'm not going to respond to all of it. In short, I feel like many of the features in EUR are going to be in V6 so in my mind I think maybe just wait and experience all the changes at once. I do value polish and as few bugs or crashes as possible so that is a big sticking point. New approach to the mod post Galu will certainly have some curveballs, some enjoyable, maybe some not so.

      @ I appreciate that, just wanted to give a small insight in some particular things.
      So here some more monologue 😂.
      One more thing: I think that the Devs should really playtest the campaign and battle AI more.
      To give an example: I noticed that a settlement and fort defending AI will start sallying out almost always, when their losses are at 12,5 % in the settlement (achieved by your archers for instance).
      That’s exploitable, which is fine, but you know yourself how hard it is when the AI refuses to sally out of a large town and above with full towers 😄
      Why not stay? The AI is actually excellent at defending walls properly even being attacked on multiple sides. They do forget their City Center sometimes however.
      Concerning the battle AI of EUR: it is a weird one.
      Sometimes, especially when they have inferior numbers, they become very passive (similar to V5 AI marching towards you), but that’s exploitable with archers and cav.
      BUT man, I never enjoyed big battles so much as in EUR. No battle AI was so good at defending their general and preventing getting outflanked as that AI, even if you have a good amount of Cav. They know which units to hold back, when you outflank and threaten or charge the general, when to send him in the massive frontline and surround him with allies, it is exceptional.
      On the other hand, for some reason, enemy Cav in EUR is very intent on charging your frontline, especially Pikes unlike in V5 where they actually sometimes get your archers while outflanking or rear charge.
      To me in a single player game, cosmetics are cool yes, but systems, and especially the whole AI makes the game.
      P.S. I don’t use glitches, I just min max my units, generals, archers, infantry in shielwall and cav in particular.

    If V6 does nothing except tone down Eredwaith, helps cav in auto resolve, and tones down Great Beasts from 11/10 to 8/10 it'll be a success. The AI tweaks will just be a plus. Figuring out how to juice Anduin Vale and Woodland Realm by 10% so they have a chance would be nice too.

    The EOP is exciting but watching the Dev Diary it seemed like they might get carried away with the possibilities. I agree with you on the overall excitement but the reigns might need to be pulled back.

    The unit cards are a bit much but someone really loves creating them and they are usually pretty in low stress moments so I have respect. If the little weapon strength indicator was replaced with a sword, spear, or bow to show basic weapon class it would be a big help. They could still be silver or gold based on upgrades.

    Just a thought: maybe you should send some units to take "Maethelburg" from goblins, and then give that settlement to dwarves in exchange for a alliance.

    Turn 113 I would prepare the operation Liberation of the Shire by regrouping the units stationning in Bree and Tyr G ( ex Mengalen ) to attack Hobbiton in order to sell Bree to the Breeland faction after the conquest of Hobbiton to speed the restoration of Arnor
    The big push against Enedwaith must wait the restauration of Arnor because you will have the Breeland's army at your orders

    I think that the dwarves are coded to not ally anyone that holds Kazhad dum. It just feels like no matter what you give them they wont ally with you if you hold half their city which i think makes sense

      I have allied them before holding KD West, it just took like 40000 gold. I think they are hard coded to not ally anyone who has KD when they go horde.

    Great episode. Lots have talked about the card changes. Im so indifferent to it as it takes a back seat after a while but i do remember hating the Rome 2 unit cards. The Ai passivity is a sticky one as its like more challenging battles is it really what most gamers would want. I stopped playing warhammer because of the roaming armies and the attack the player bias. On a different point i was messing about with the Arnor campaign and didnt get Gandalf. Has this ever happened to you?

      I'm hoping that we get the AI passivity fix but they cut the attack any settlement because that is going to really suck. With the amount of spam that comes out, expansion is going to be near impossible without losing ground on the backlines both in territory and devastation loss to income across your lands. And as you point out, is that a change that people would enjoy? I think not. I agree with your WH point, armies going past my borders and attacking some rear settlement was infuriating.
      With Gandalf, he only appears if you have completed the questline to a certain point he will then appear at a set turn like in my campaign or if Aragorn is killed. So my guess is Aragorn is alive and you haven't progressed his questline or you have but haven't waited enough turns. If none of this applies then you might just have a bug.

    Hey mr EPM! Thanks for your content. Since you are a really veteran player would you consider to spice up your next campaigns? Maybe making restrictions on what you can build/use or full cheese/exploits run? Fastest victory conditions record etc?

      Something like refusing to sell settlements to KD to make hundreds of thousands of gold to make the campaign easier or something like instantly going to war with a neutral faction so that I'm surrounded immediately by enemies? Or maybe go to somewhere as the AA where there is no cavalry so I am forced to not have the strongest units in the game or maybe go full yolo into Isengard as Lothlorien ignoring my primary enemy thus setting back the campaign 50 odd turns and making it ridiculously harder? Maybe role-playing EL and choosing evil but not preemptively taking out the Elves so the campaign is very easy? Like sending my faction leader alone to take on a full stack of enemies or sending a custom general alone to Mt Doom to drop in the ring?
      Oh wait, I've done all those things plus more. It's like you haven't actually watched any of the campaigns and then make some ignorant remark about making the campaigns spicier. You might not like being called out but sometimes it needs to be done.
      Also a note, some of my least watched series are ones I've got on top really fast because no one likes a steamroll.
      The thing that you need to remember is I have to enjoy it, if I am doing things like restricting what I can build/use that is not enjoyable and then the videos just don't happen.

      Off stream I do. Shogun 2, Rome 1, Empire, Modded Atilla, occasionally I get sucked back into modded warhammer 2 but once I brain comprehends what's happening in the game I exit that fast.

      They can, I've seen them attack armies in a border region

      They can only attack border settlements or units in border regions. The only settlement they border me in is Goblin Town so they could march up there but they cant make up their mind about attacking KD so they go back and forth.

      @@ivanzemun8850 I have had two really unusual oddities like as if a army got stuck targeting another army on the campaign map and they cross deep into my territory to attack but that has happened I think once and it looked like happening 1 other time but I put my troops in a settlement and it stopped it. Hasn't happened otherwise.

    I’ve been playing DAC since v2 and I can say I was really disappointed with this dev diary. Another good evil choice is very uninspired.

      Part of the reason I didn't really comment on the Dale stuff and more on the cross factions changes. Dale going evil doesn't have any lore to back it up, I was hoping there would be some 'spawned battles' to simulate the siege of Dale and Erebor by the Easterlings. Maybe there will still be that but an evil option doesn't gel.

      It's more of an economical vs infrastructure choice rather than a good vs evil. I tried to emphasise this near the end because I think it was miss communicated at the start (and because not everyone on the dev team has English as their first language). Spawned battles are cool but in my experience they are a little buggy and can often go against the sandbox approach that I think is one of DaCs strengths. Thanks for being open minded though and excited to see what you think, I think it will make a bit more sense once people actually get to play it.

      @@Medik_0001 Thanks for responding and giving clarification. As you saw in the video I didn't talk much to the Dale changes, I think it best to play those and see.
      Spawned battles can be buggy though there are a few in the mod now that seem stable through multiple playthroughs Saying this, I have no idea how much work it takes to implement but judging from what you guys said coding is much easier with EOP. EL has 4, the only problem with 2 of those (same map) is the actual battle map as the catapults struggle to hit the gate with the dip in the ground, they waste most of their ammo. HE AA sieges, Mordor Silvan Elf script sieges, KD expeditions battles, KD attacks (both Dwarf and Balrog) and Khand uprisings all seem to work fine. I guess I was just hoping one of the scripts lead to the defence of Dale since it's pretty unlikely to actually defend there within the sandbox. That might change if changes to AI attacking any settlement stays in.

    I wish i knew how to install mods so that i can play this game, still haven't grown out of it yet like i have with star wars. they killed star wars but they can't kill lotr. Ive been watching you for months mate, your good at strategy and defence. Same with offence. But i love to adopt Mongolian style of armys for my forces, cav and 6_4 units of archers. In base game i usually use legend of total wars strat to defeat the Mongols with forts, on the expansion packs i use the same methods but with mostly archer based armys for siege cav for offensive manoeuvres. Could you consider doing this in a battle, a all arnor cav spam. Arnor heavy cav, horse archers and dunedian rangers but its up to you if you dont want to make a Mongolian style arnor army for a battle or two. Tbh you playing as khand or Rohan is the only time you would have cav spam gameplay, which is just as fyn as the infantry battles😉

      I was always hesitant with installing mods. It's actually very simple now, easier then when I first installed it, it has a self-contained installer. Just go to the link in moddb and go for it, it's all safe.
      Yeah, probs not cav spam in this campaign, my Rohan campaign has a lot of cav armies which is a lot of micro. I like having some cav but not too much it does my head in for battle and battle and I'll inevitably mismicro especially when I'm not pausing battles to give orders.

      @epmtotalwar ill try installing it next time i have the chance, yeah your right full cav armys are hard to micro which why i usually use them as bashing force. Then use my infantry armys to do the rest, I watched the reunited kingdom playthrough, that was unique from when this mod originally came out, cant wait to find out the conclusion from choosing the arnor option. These vids are great

    The army in Tharbarad cannot go to attack a settlement until the troops have the max armour upgrade and Tharbarad can be attacked from the 2 side of the Gwathlo river ,
    Tharbarad must build all the stage of Blacksmith and the all the tear of Barracks
