Thx for the upload. . .CLASSIC material. I hosted this event (That's my voice at the beginning, & me giving the win @ the end). . .definitely one of the illest performances I've ever seen. Swamp is ridiculously underrated.
I was there (I can't believe I found this...) 1) He was the 1st to after he did that broken record thing the tables were fucked for everyone else...lol 2) When they anounced his name it took like 5 min to find him and when he got up there he was either on Acid or scrhooms or both. HE WAS OUT OF IT!!! 3) He got the jacket and instead of putting it on tied in around his waist. WHAT A CHARACTER!!!

I was at this battle. Swamp opened the sets. The 3 favorites that day were Melo-D, Babu, Joe Sinister. I X L was a surprise. The other DJs that day didn't get a hype crowd reaction as big as Swamp. The Bay Area is a tough crowd, there's so many DJ s! But Swamp won that battle 4 sure.
I've watched this a hundred times, and I'm sure I'll watch it a hundred more. Amazing. Like a previous poster mentioned, when you keep returning to this, you know it's special.
i get the same reaction every time i watch this// hairs on back of my neck stand up!!! memorie severs me right 4 others competed. my brother has this video on vhs and i keep rwd back to this dude never get tired watching this dude!!!
Swamp did it all in this set. Ill scratches, tone shifts, needle drops. Drumming on one turntable and scratching on the other. That's a foreign language to DJ's nowadays. It was even kinda foreign to some very skilled DJ's back then.
I still look at this tape and have a hard time deciding who won. Swamp was dope but Mista Sinista killed it too. In the end I guess Swamp had a little more showmanship...plus he was first to go on.
I got to see this guy a couple of days ago at Sam's Lounge in Jackson. SICK, sick show. I managed to get an autographed white label from him. He's fucking AMAZING live.
+Iamyouonlydifferent Just out of curiosity, why is he a dick? what did he do or how did he act around you that made you come to that conclusion?I'm sure this will be an interesting story. Because I know two people that are dear to me that told me stuff about him that kind of back up what you say.I just dying to know what happened between you two.
This took place on my first birthday xD I'm 16 now. But this is amazing to watch. I love watch old school stuff then watching the stuff that we have to mix with today. Its crazy.
I love how the crowd got open on anything he did just based off the wordplay of the intro. The fact that it made sense made them think that damn this dude is on some shit and then they just felt everything after that.
From the deepest darkness of JAPAN, came a creature that terrorise EVERY DJ, than began to claw and crush its way into San Francisco. Nothing could stop the incredible , giant ---- NEW CDJs!!!
@34thncrenshaw aww man thats Dopeman by NWA like TripleB1218 said. Its how he flipped the song that got me open...simple but oso catchy. He couldn't have fucked with a better song than dopeman to hype the crowd since the finals that year was on the westcoast (SF).
My brain just melted slowly an consistently over the course of 6 an a fat half minutes and oozed out my ears an eye sockets, an it felt good. 'The fuck did this nigga just do to my senses o.o

He's lucky to have such an enthusiastic crowd, really helps the routine.

Swamp did it all in this set. Ill scratches, tone shifts, needle drops. Drumming on one turntable and scratching on the other. That's a foreign language to DJ's nowadays. It was even kinda foreign to some very skilled DJ's back then.
Don't forget the robot moves.
I still look at this tape and have a hard time deciding who won. Swamp was dope but Mista Sinista killed it too. In the end I guess Swamp had a little more showmanship...plus he was first to go on.

Rockstar dj, dope as shit!
The New Gripsey boy in his hay day
I was hoping this was the one where he licked the stylus.
The 8 people that hit dislike are probably the other DJs that had the impossible task of following him!!!!

DOPEMAN NWA

HONESTLY LISTEN TO THE CROWD OVER THE SOUND SYSTEM DAM
3:22 The aliens beam down their galactic message as to be communicated through him to the physical realm.
