      I really want to get back out there!!!!!! When I was there in the 90s a found hundreds of original telegraph poles along the old grade. Square timber cut! Didn’t take any photos like a fool! So we need to come back and see what’s still about!

    What a treasure trove of footage to be able to sit on the sofa and enjoy. I often come close to that Bachmann 1:20.3 and "almost" buy it on that famous auction site. I would settle for the plastic as the left hand is worse off then the right and unable to modify. But, reality sets in and my lovely Bride's voice rings in my brain, and once again I am without one. What fabulous footage and what fun this must of been. Great, as always. Greg and Jeanne.

      Hello!! Hope you get one. Dang they are cool. I "need" 3 more. The new 2-6-0s are amazing. I want the Eureka and Palisades Reville, the Glenbrook, and Ward Kimball Emma Nevada locomotive. That will do for now. I guess.

    Wow, I was almost salivating seeing that grand and glorious 4-4-0 American running on the tracks in that beautiful natural scenery. I don't have enough of the right superlatives to fully express my joy right now at seeing the old steamer. I'm a model railroader and not much of a trainchaser, so seeing this was a great way to spend a few minutes. THIS is what I truly enjoy about RUclips- seeing historical subjects. Thank you so very much for posting this treasure!

    Here is the ironic part, the videos that you shot out in Colorado and New Mexico I remember watching so religiously I wore out my VHS. The videos you shot had mezmorized and I couldn't get my face off the screen. So thanks to you kind sir, you had me hooked on narrow gauge since I was 5. Today I'm proud to say I got to ride on the D&SRR and I still sit and dream here in my home in eastern MO wondering when I'll get to go again. Also coming from a guy who loves to play blue grass fiddle thank as always for incorperating fiddle tunes into you videos, for now cheers to you both and keep the sweet train videos coming.

    Just for the record that is not a Civil War era caboose. The D&RGW's short cabooses were all built between 1904 and 1918; then again, the Eureka isn't civil war era either.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  7 лет назад +1

      True, just post war, The bobber cabooses were built at about the same time, many later were re trucked into short cabooses as was 0500. Two or three now restored back to bobber. the bobbers were just a bit shorter, and all were somewhat different from each other. 0500 was built in 1886. So as close as we could get for the filming Bobber would had been better.

    +ToyManTelevision *4-4-0 Baldwin Class 8/18C, 3'-0" Gage, #3763, left Philadelphia only a month behind Virginia & Truckee River #22,* 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 8/22C, 4'-8.5" Gage, #3693, and was finished consistently with the V&TRR's 2-6-0 Baldwin 8/22D ore-pullers. The Westinghouse air pump was often retrofitted just ahead of the engineer's side of the cab by the roads that already owned these locomotives, and #3763 is no exception.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  7 лет назад

      Dan's original goal was to return the locomotive to as delivered by Baldwin. However, as he wanted to run the locomotive, it was pointed out that removing the Westinghouse breaks and the injectors as well as going back to link and pin would ban him from most if not all railroads and make the locomotive very unsafe.

      Long story, but he got it for less than free. When he bought it they thought he wanted the gas powered amusement park ride, He never said what he paid. But they were not supposed to sell the ride, as it had a loan on it. So they had to buy it back. In the end he got the loco for free. Now what he spent fixing it.......

      Will is this sort of complicated.. I buy the tracks from a company called smart sound and they sell it to me recorded measure by measure instrument by instrument. That allows me to re-configure it anyway I want for the show. Mostly it’s generic music but a lot of it is based on other music that they have mimicked in record in the tracks. A lot of what you’re hearing it is based on the work of Aaron Copeland. While being completely different. And then as I say reconfigured and remixed

    I don't know why but American 4-4-0s always seem gaudy to me. Beautiful but gaudy. Like they're painted by people with no taste. And then later locomotives are all 1 color, usually black. It's like the US never figured out how to paint steam locomotives nicely. Then you look at British trains and they're in very recognisable liveries, usually 2 or 3 colors and consistent among all the engines (sometimes with two styles for goods and passenger locos) and it just seems nicer.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  7 лет назад +1

      I do love it though. Gaudy yet I get it. In it's day, everything was over blown. I agree the British paint is amazing. THe deep wine and green, with just the right off sets, a bit of gold, cream, black. Neve understood the bright red but I assume that was for safety.

    • @daviemaclean61
      @daviemaclean61 7 лет назад +1

      Gaudy yet magnificent. In the early 80s I was going to join a ship in East Germany via Berlin railway station where, amongst the run of the mill diesels was a large steam locomotive on some special duty bound for Moscow with the crossed flags, etc on the front - a breathtaking sight. It only seem gaudy to us now - it was black and white back in the day! ;-)

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  7 лет назад +1

      YES!! It's fine. Problem is FRA permits. Boiler inspections. Dan has been running at the Museum in Henderson, on the sly, as it's still a real railroad and under FRA rules. But he drives it in his driveway when the mood hits. Once the car is ready he will pass the hat and get back out to Chama or Durango. About 15K to move it. Nice when a film producer is willing to pay. In this case they only covered 50% and the rest of us kicked in. I sold footage to a bank for a TV spot, and they MORE than covered the remanding 50% And may need to re tube the boiler, even though it's FINE!! But rules say the boiler can't just be inspected, must be re tubed at times. Pointless BS.

So he looks the work over, seems fine. SO he sticks his head through the hole to see the underside of the seat. All good. But when he pulls his head back out a beard hair sticks in a small crack in the edge. "Eurts duddent it" she says.

      Episode 5. The grandest Enterprise under the sun. About building the transcontinental railroad. Shooting at promontory is so difficult it’s really out of the question. The regulations for shooting in a national park or national monument are just crazy. Easier to shoot it Durango. Ken really didn’t have much to do with the project it was mostly Steve directing.

I have the diaries of the women on those wagon trains...unbelievable hardship & courage! My brother Mike has a 10 acre horse ranch in Williamstown NJ. When I visit. we go on a 8 mile trail ride at Valley Forge with 25 Williamstown riders. I am dressed in my 1880's riding outfit with split skirt, vest & hat. Just call me Kerri "Annie Oakley" Dillon! I remain firm on my offer to buy you & Karyn dinner when next you are in California. Email me: KerriTheRealtor@gmail.com
      Thanks for the wonderful videos! Hello to the Rat Fink too!

      Those guys are GREAT. Their first film, Coney Island is amazing if you ever get a chance to see it. Two versions, one is like 58 minutes, for PBS. The first cut is almost 2 hours. Grandpa Munster is featured.

      I'm rebuilding a Bachmann to make it right, real wood and brass, AND a brass model of it. Will be a show or two I assume.

      Well I'd certainly like to see a video of that! I've always had a high interest for trains in general, but more than anything old american steam engines. Being from Georgia, it's sorta natural that my favorite locomotive of all time is shared by two engines: General & Texas. Ever done a show on those two? The Texas is finishing its cosmetic restoration in North Carolina April 28th!

      Lord, those typos. I hate typing on a phone...anyway, you're very welcome. You ought to come screw around in Georgia, some time. There are some really cool railroads and historic sites.
