Thank you sooo much for that. I use a lot of product pictures in after effects, and it really gets cluttered when you need 2 layers using the multiply technique, not to mention needing to parent the layers etc. This really changes everything for my workflow.
@@denniswebberphotography Ooh that's interesting. Would definitely be interested in any improvements you've made, because yours is already the best I've found, ha.
Glad I could help you out. One thing you might run into when doing this method is a 1px "border" between the shadow and the item. I've fixed that in my action and workflow, but not this one. Probably going to be making a new version of this and I'll letcha know if I do.
Very cool guide, at last its "apply image" techniques, not only "color range" . Only problem with this - apply image to totally black fill as mask - it totally lost colored relfex blended with shadows if your main object is colored. So, with that objects result looks not really natural. Im play some time with layers trying copyback reflex colors to shadows but not luck so far.
Loved this tute mate! I've had 1 hiccup: there's a bit of a gradient / shadowing happening along one edge of the background area on my PNG, creating a clear. If I view the top layer mask under Channels, this area is not red. What have I messed up?
I recently sent some images "off shore" to get retouched and even tough it was a simple process it does take a slice out of the bottom line. How cool are you to create this vid when I need it (OK I'm a year late but that's the deal with YT, it's forever), thanks is under rated!
a 33 second montage intro is absolutely wild
by far the best and easiest explanation on youtube. Thank-you!
Good stuff here. Thanks for making this one, came in handy!!!

Just saw this comment. So glad to have helped you out.
This is exactly what i am looking for. Thanks for making this video and sharing. Appreciate it.
Glad I could help Mandy!
This tutorial and the action are so incredibly useful. Thank you!
Glad to help! I've refined this process since and might do a new tutorial. It uses channels instead and prevents a small pixel gap here and there.
