Some of the key information in this in-service video includes:
Setting Preferences on your Celerity Incubator:
The Celerity Incubator offers customizable options that can be set to your preference. Additional information on these options can be found in the operator manual.
    • Language: To change the language, click the home button. Scroll using the up or down arrow buttons to highlight language selection. Press enter to select. Again, use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight the desired language, and press enter to select.
    • Buzzer Volume: The default buzzer volume is medium. It can be changed to low or high. Click on the home button to change the buzzer volume. Scroll using the up or down arrow buttons to highlight the buzzer volume. Press enter to select. Using the up and down arrow buttons, highlight the desired buzzer volume and enter.
    • Buzzer Mode: The buzzer mode is factory set to be turned off for negative BI results. Once a negative BI result is available, it can be turned on to sound a different audible alarm. To change the buzzer mode, click on the home button and scroll up or down to highlight the buzzer mode. Press enter to select. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the desired buzzer mode, and press enter.
    Initial Incubator Setup:
Set up the incubator close to where the BIs are used and ensure environmental conditions are within specifications listed in the user manual. Plug in the unit. Ensure no BIs are present in any of the wells. The incubator will automatically begin heating the wells to the preset temperature, and a diagnostic test will run concurrently, which can take up to 30 minutes. Unplug the unit for two minutes or longer if the diagnostic test fails. If the problem persists, contact your STERIS representative.
Once the target temperature is reached and the diagnostic test is complete, the incubator is ready for use.
    Using the Celerity™ Incubator:
To begin using the incubator, refer to BI labeling to ensure the BI is validated for use with the Celerity incubator. Next, scan the BI utilizing the barcode scanner. Make sure the barcode is facing up when scanning a BI. If necessary, slowly rotate and/or tilt the BI left and right until a beep is heard, indicating the incubator accepts the BI and is ready for incubation. Inserting or removing the BI too quickly can hinder barcode registration.
Activate the BI by twisting the cab clockwise until you feel resistance. Transfer the media from the cap to the vial by holding the BI firmly by its cap and flicking the wrist once. Ensure media has come in contact with the spores on the bottom of the vial and the cap is seated tightly. You may need to retwist the cap or flick the vial an additional time if the media does not transfer. Place the BI in any available well of the incubator. The incubator will automatically detect the presence of the BI and start the incubation process.
The well number LED will slowly flash green during incubation. The remaining incubation time is displayed on the LCD screen next to the corresponding well number. Read and record the BI results within the validated readout time. The BI is negative for growth when the incubator demonstrates a fast, flashing green light, an optional audible alarm, and a minus sign on the screen next to the corresponding well number.
Acknowledging the result will silence the alarm if the buzzer mode is on, and the LED will turn solid green.
The BI is positive for growth when the incubator demonstrates a fast, flashing red light, an audible alarm, and a plus sign on the screen next to the corresponding well number. Acknowledging the result will silence the alarm, and the LED will turn solid red. After interpretation, dispose of Bis per the instructions for use.
