Britney speaks differently when she is blond and brunette. She switches from a little girl to a woman and when she has darker hair, her voice is so natural. Poor girl. I am so pissed. They ripped her apart, took her voice, took her children, and even prohibit spending her own money she tearfully earned. If she is alive in the next year or two, she would be the strongest woman in show biz.

This is why I think Britney is one of the most underrated voices of the last 20 years. However there are also a few more recent songs, like Perfume, Alien or He About To Lose Me (2011-2013), in which she uses her natural voice.

I believe Perfume was sung by her entirely, however Alien was not. Mya Marie sang the chorus (“not alone, not alone, not alone”) and “take me home”. Ina Wroldsen sang the chorus in He About To Lose Me, or at least, maybe Britney’s voice was mixed in somewhere but you can hardly hear it unfortunately. She did sing the verses in Alien and He About To Lose me.

I agree with the comment section that (regarding her voice) the industry destroyed her, but she wasn't some mindless label puppet either. She cowrote a lot of her songs, got into producing, made the concepts for her own music videos, composed some songs, choreographed some of her routines etc.
Yes, she's been influenced by her team a lot in the beginning (especially with her voice), but she's still an artist

My former sister in law used to go to the same church as Brittany and her parents in Kentwood, Louisiana. The industry has not been kind to her and she has attempted to keep her private life out of the tabloids, but, they have hounded her for years. It is refreshing to see your heart being revealed and compassion for her challenges she's experienced. Being from Louisiana myself, she is considered a treasure for our state and know she is really a good, kind person. Your assessment of different artists and their talent is quite impressive, and look forward to many more. I have a question, how do you decide what artist to listen and react to?

In reality it just took everything away from her, her voice, her children, her career and to this day people are still trying to get the REAL Britney back, I wonder as well if she can still sing like she used to because she’s so used to people telling her who to be. It's definitely true, her mother wrote a book and said that they destroyed Britney's voice. She was signed when she was just 15 and came from humble beginnings, so I don't think she had much of a choice but to do what they wanted her to do. She was actually signed singing Whitney Houston (!!!) for executives of her future label. They portrayed a image and wanted her to fill in it, and it worked for a few years, but she lost herself along the way, and she still is trying to take control of her own life to this day. Also, it's the main reason why she's known for lip synching, she can't sing in that baby voice anymore, and definitely can't hold on a 2hrs concert singing live. It's really sad what happened to her... I hope she get the freedom she deserves and is fighting for.

So here’s the story- she was having trouble hitting the low notes on baby one more time so in order to get it she emulated t-boz from tlc, who also sings nasally, for those parts. Her label heard it and loved it because pop music is known for nasally singing and they forced her to re-record her first album, which was already 80% done in her real voice in what they call ‘the baby voice’ because the single blew up all over the world. If you look back, it was 4 months after that first single was released that the first album dropped and that’s because they made her re record it. The album proved a success and they made her sing like that for every album afterwards, which is why she started lip syncing during her live shows because she didn’t want to lose her real singing voice. It’s very saddening.

wow that`s the first time I hear her really sing. I used to like many of her songs but she always seemed to me not the best of singers. This is so hard to say what really happened. There could be all sorts of things - health issues with the voice, poor technique of with manipulation... injuries...it`s somewhat hard to believe that all of that ability she had was lost only due to her being convinced to sing that way she did in her popular albums....

I always haaaaaaaaated her voice in her albums but after hearing her voice as a young girl and learning more about her story, I just want to give her a hug.

Hi Rebecca! I never knew Britney could sing, based on the affected voice I've heard on, well, every hit I've heard after she got hot. Very sexy and breathy, and I guess that was the idea? On those clips, even as a young girl, gee! Clarity and a sustained vibrato...who knew? Your analysis is very enlightening, of course, spiced up by your transitions into your many alter-egos, which are hilarious. You are so much fun to watch, and I could listen to you read the phone book. I love your fake British accent! (Don't throw that! I can't believe someone actually thought you were faking.) But your lapses into an innumerable amount of dialects, drawls, and all manner of manipulated sounds expose an obviously whip-smart intellect. Wish I lived in Britain so you could help me brush up on my voice. What with all the sounds you can make, it bodes well for your apparent understanding of how to form vowels and how to create ease of sound without hurting the instrument. You're very impressive, despite your fake British accent. (Sorry, I couldn't help it, so you actually CAN throw that now.) Seriously, I took note of your many mentions of muscle memory and would like to ask you to look into someone a lot of reactors are not necessarily clamoring for, though many were a few years back. This pertains directly to muscle memory: In 2017, a young woman came onto the stage at America's Got Talent. Interestingly, her interpreter took position next to Simon Cowell, and that's when we all discovered she'd lost her hearing and had to leave a music-teaching program at her college because she couldn't describe music in a drop-the-needle test because she couldn't hear it. She was depressed for a long time, but her father, at one point, nagged her to just try to work on a song to see if she could do it. So, and this is the good part, she took all day, using a tuning app on a phone, and sang into the phone to make sure she was on-pitch. Took her all day. When she sang it for her father, she looked up and he had tears in his eyes and said it was beautiful. When she later took the tape of her singing it to her voice teacher, the teacher told her they could work on trying to get her back to that quality...until the girl told the teacher it was the tape of her AFTER she lost her hearing. When she described how she does it to Simon Cowell, she mentioned feeling the beat with her shoes off, using the tuner app, and...remembering how it felt to hit those notes...her muscle memory. Don't know if this would be of interest, but her name is Mandy Harvey. Anthony Ying's version of the appearance is better than AGT's because it allows Mandy to explain her condition: ruclips.net/video/oHUuCLgfMpo/видео.html I bawl every time I see this because I am SO full of admiration for this woman. Even more impressive, all four performances she did were written by her, music and lyrics. She plays a uke, instead of a guitar because the condition that made her deaf affects her joints (some kind of connective-tissue affliction), and the dislocation of her knuckles is probably at least annoying. If this is of any interest, she has two professionally produced videos from her first professionally done album with original songs: This Time: ruclips.net/video/kdEzeli5Gjs/видео.html Release Me: ruclips.net/video/Tf2PkqEXIbg/видео.html

Can you do a review on Ava Max? I am really digging her tone. I feel like she’s a mix of Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa sound but would really like to see you do a review on one of her songs. Her hit right now is Kings and Queens but she has so many more awesome songs that showcase her vocal range such as OMG What’s Happening, Torn etc. I find her very vocally appealing and she has a fun personality that will have you laughing in her videos. Also I believe she co-writes a lot of her songs and her lyrics are really clever.

when you are not true to yourself (due to others around you telling you how you must be) and you become emotionally fragile (through the ugly journey of the music industry) the first thing to fade is command of your voice...the throat chakra is all about speaking your truth...sadly the young girl who truly did have a voice at one point, (that might have developed into something special) has been controlled and manipulated and become emotionally wounded and the result is sad.... Well done Rebecca for sharing this with such compassion

The way young performers are "managed" usually makes me sad. Especially when greedy and selfish parents are involved. I hope Britney is healthy and safe.
