- No copyright infringement intended - When the 5th Dimension rereleased their "Soul & Inspiration" cd a few years ago, they added some previously unreleased material .. Billy Davis Jr. sang this song originally on the cd .. This is the same song only with Marilyn singing lead .. A GREAT surprise for Marilyn fans like me .. NJOY

After all this years still a pleasure to listen to this song
Love Marilyn, then and now, UCLA alum and prehaps the greatest female R&B vocalist of all time. Deep, almost baritone, voice, can hit the high notes, has whistle tone, as well. 8 Grammys total but she always stayed under the radar, never hugged the limelight. Worth mentioning, tall, with a body to die for and an angelic face!
you sound like you're in love...i get it
R&B? She’s not, nor has she ever been, R&B. She has a very ‘white’ vocal style. Terrific singer.
As a lifetime fan of this amazing woman, I'll admit, this is my 1st time hearing this. -----------Great voice, gorgeous lady, total-class. ----------------------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
BEAUTIFUL VOICE . BRINGS BACK MANY PLEASANT MEMORIES.
I love Marilyn McCoo's voice!!!!!
oh how i love marilyn mc coo.. she came here in Manila.. two years ago i think..
My heart is singing... and beating Bec of love for this piece. ❤️❤️❤️🙌🙂🌹
Beautiful 🥰
1974 when I last heard this song when it came out.
First time to Marilyn sing this song. Thank you for posting.
Always carried a little torch for Marilyn since I was a wee tike. When I first heard this version back in '07 I didn't know why it wasn't released on the Soul & Inspiration Album. I guess they were going for a more gritty R & B sound and up to that point their Bell recordings were more champagne soul. Billy's version fits the former, but this version made me fall in love with Marilyn all over again. Ah, I miss the days of wine and roses...
great to hear marilyns version of it for the first time. I was fortunate enough to meet marilyn and billy after one of their shows. They were VERY gracious to me and they signed my "album". I was on cloud 9 to say the least....joel in marshall, texas
Puré Magic from the best singer ever!
The Pretty Marilyn💋
This is not an easy song to sing, she does a great job
She is just gorgeous and a terrific singer
Very relaxing song..😍😍😍
always wonderful ....
Definately wouldn't argue that would U .. LOVE them both
Please know that Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. are both vibrant and current today.
In fact, Marilyn's voice has gotten better (richer, more defined, more experience in her life energy.)
No other male singer is more authentic than Mr. Davis.
These qualities become evident as soon as you hear them perform.
Why do I see comments like "...was the best...."?
Maybe there is a difference between our pop music perspectives and the" artist's rightful place".
The truth.
Please come see them in concert.
@StanBennet Yeah she is definately my favorite vocalist of all time .. Also the most underrated too ..
She was very popular with the group and with her husband
She was the greatest female vocalist of all time. To think that she would only stay with the 5th Dimension as long as it was a "hobby."
awesome song.amazing!
Love her voice I’m her biggest fan.
make that her 2nd biggest . 8 )~
A great Tony Macauley composition that should have been a major hit. Also covered by Marilyn's hubby Billy Davis & Lani Misalucha. Macauley's hits include LAST NIGHT I DIDN'T GET TO SLEEP AT ALL; DON'T GIVE UP ON US (BABY) & LOVE GROWS WHERE MY ROSEMARY GOES
Greatness
yeah She is AMAZING ...
Marilyns vocals are great on this arrangement but Sunny Leslie and The New Seekers versions with Eve Graham vocals are well worth a listen.
Florence LaRue, and Marilyn McCoo are the two most gorgeous woman of all time!
I'd have loved to hear this covered by Florence too. Seems perfect for her lush voice.
5 th Dimension , eles são demais !!
Imagine Marilyn and Elvis in a duo....
Deep almost baritone? Marilyn? Okay....and although I've heard her sing in head voice, I've never heard any whistles tones.
Are people calling her an R&B singer just because she's black? I don't get it. For my ears, she is a warm and moving pop singer - a lovely lady too.
Correct: she has a very ‘white’ vocal style, actually... and that’s a great thing. It’s sort of the opposite of ‘blue eyed soul’ (white people singing in a black style)...
@@vampyros1 Oh no, when I said pop, I didn't mean white. NOT FOR ONE SECOND. - I only meant pop. In other words, to my ear, she sounds like a black pop singer. There is nothing "white" about her timbre.
@@TruthSerum101 I couldn’t disagree more; everything about Marilyn’s vocals has always sounded extremely white. I’ve never heard anything black in her delivery, timbre, or improvisation. Excellent singer!
Greatn
I like both versions...I think this version should have also been included on the album...and actually released as a single...it had potential...it was VERy mid 70s in sound. *as there was other sounds other than disco at the time* I think it would have made noise.
@MsTexas73 yeah I couldn't argue with that statement either .. Though there are many more that can really bring it ..
She and Gladys Knight are the female R&B all-time voices
Marilyn is a pop singer you goof.
@@edwardsnotebook she's still good and she can sing r and b if she wants
Do you automatically consider all black singers, R&B? Marilyn's basic approach is closer to Karen Carpenter's and Barry Manilow's than Gladys Knight's. She's soulful but not in the way that Gladys Knight is.
I always thought Billy's version should have been a single. This is really a great song.
It really is . I thought Marilyn's should have been released . I think either one would have been a hit .. With Clive Davis in charge, isn't much of a surprise that neither one was released ..
Butch--I like both versions but prefer the arrangement on Billy's version. Just personal preference. Clive Davis did not get along with the group at all. Most people don't know that when the 5th was recording this album, Davis demanded that they sing the Eagles' song Best of My Love as a single--which nobody else thought was a good idea, mostly because the Eagles had already had a hit with the song two years earlier. Bones Howe quit the project abruptly and was replaced by Florez. Then the group itself produced some of the tracks. The whole project became a mess and resulted in a lot of inner group tensions. By the next year, on Earthbound (my personal favorite 5th album), those tensions reached their peak and Billy and Marilyn were gone soon after. What a shame.
Noodle, as U know from John Florez's vid, that if not for clive davis, the 5th would have had probably at least one more #1 hit (no love in the room) & probably would have had at least 1 future album produced by John Florez .. I think Marilyn & Billy would have still bolted the group eventually, but probably leaving a 5th better able to survive w/out them .. I always knew that clive seemed a very shady person but til Joh's video, had no real proof .. Hopefully KARMA will eventually catch up to him ..
Maybe. Ten years is a long time for any group to stay together. Nothing lasts forever, as they say. I have friends in the music business who have dealt first hand with Davis (as in Clive, not Billy) and they all say the same thing. If you are not his "pet student" then he is not interested. He tended to take green singers like Whitney Houston, whom he could mold and tell what to do, and made them stars. Seems like the older stars who had been around the block a few times clashed with him because they would push back on him. Maybe the whole cycle is inevitable. I don't know.
Yeah basically if U didn't kiss his ass & disagreed with him, then there would be issues .. Phyllis Hyman had issues with him & I think she had one of the most amazing voices ever (she is in my top 5 along with Marilyn) .. As great a voice as Whitney had, she also got best songs to sing .. John Florez even said that he would call & tell Marilyn how to sing different parts of a song .. All water under the bridge ..
r u kidding me? this version blows the other away! i love Marilyns voice and she does this song such beauty! is this a bonus cut on any of the cds?
oops my bad, i just re read description n saw where this is a bonus track on the cd that i actually have but havent ever listened to it and when i looked at the insert i just saw the original lp tracks and never noticed the bonus tracks lol sweet! i have this song yeah!
where is she now? she still sings? i love her.. a lot!!
@dmmurillo100 I couldn't agree more.
This arrangement is closer to the original recording from the New Seekers
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing U Tube god at work 🙏 peace joy true love wins linda j ☮️❤️ ❤️💯 💯💯 💯
ICAM.
Where is she is now?( Marilyn MaCoo)?
She is now 72 & still singing & touring with her husband Billy Davis Jr .. I saw them last December at the Colors of Xmas concert at Davies Symphony Hall in SF .. She still has her 4 octave range & she closed the concert out singing "Last night I didn't get to sleep at all", "One Less Bell" & an amazing version of Holy Night .. the whole place erupted when she was done
Billy did a good job, but I prefer Marilyn's take....
