What do you guys think about doing a video dedicated to fishing this lure...better versions of course....?
I'm in!
a side by side comparison would be really informative. Id love to see it do as well, if not better than the original.
I’d be curious to see how the DoE moves through the water compared to adjusted models.
@@EngineeredAngler Most definitely. Love to see how they work. Had good success here (Kimberleys, Australia) on threadfin salmon with this style, but put copying lures in the too hard basket .
Yes please, always nice seeing hand made lures being fished.
I know I speak for all subscribers when I say that we appreciate all the time and effort you put into the videos!
I really appreciate the support!
@@thewarpsyrhead agreed
Copeee that.
Hey Cuz, have you ever used or thought about using legos for your box? Really makes it easy..
This is a fantastic idea!
Im thinking about skipping the soft plastic copy stuff and going straight to copying a carved blank for mass production. No clay would preserve the wood and seems like it would be much faster with cleaner lines at the margin. Nice vid sir!!! 🤙
In my molding proccesses, I always avoid having the blank on top of the uncured silicone (I mean filling from the bottom) because this couses the bottom surface have a high chance of cathing bubbles as bubbles in side the uncured ailicone tries to rise and leave but they will contact with an obstacle (the blank lure laying above). I therefore prefer using some clay as a bed to the blank lure to fill the mold pool from the top which results with much better surfaces.
Hi Franco, sorry for my post out of subject.
I was rewatching your all videos about silver, mirror finish. I was finally able to find and use the product, super tricky, time consuming but absolutely incredible results, baits are completely mirror finish, they reflect my face with details!
The problem is , a middle coat that protects mirror finish over time, even more important, a middle coat to protect the lure if you do stencil work. Without a protection stencils are going to scratch the painted baits no matter what as you showed in your videos too, mirror finish is simply too smooth for paint 100% adhesion.
Minwax work ok, uvls createx mix results, automotive clear coat a disaster, tested different brands, a lot of money spent for absolutely nothing!
I find another product, water based exactly as minwax, that works fenomenal, testing now for several months. I am talking about Alclad Aqua Gloss made by the company for specific protection of its owesome solvent based chrome paint. Even if chrome is solvent based they did a specific protection product water based.
Once lure is silver coated I do a first layer to protect mirror finish, then do paint job, another layer of aqua gloss before using stencils if needed.
After several months I can say that this method works really well, over time baits remain mirror, they loose practically nothing.
Hope it can help
That’s really great, I’ll have to look into that product.
If you test acqua gloss follow the specifics written on the bottle, no bottle shake, no thin, 20 psi no more cause it is a very liquid product, it runs no matter what even while spray thin layers, let it dry, fogginess and runs go away. Clean airbrush as soon as you done, do not wait!!! Use acetone, I know, you don't like it, but is better use solvent cleaner followed by hot water, aqua gloss is even more stick than minwax. Sometime even a good clean is not enough, need full ultrasonic cleaning
I call that a success! And I knew you could make the self-imposed Sunday deadline. Good hustle!
Thanks! I like to make sure I get the job done.
Love this concept of suspending the soft plastic bait and pouring silicone to it. Appreciate your determination to get us a video out today
Appreciate the support!
I want to re create a store bought lure that has a molded plastic lip. Would casting resin be strong enough to simply make a mold of the entire lure? Or, would one need to cast just the body portion of the lure then approximate and install a copy of the lip? Thanks!
The casting resin is strong enough if there are no microballoons added. I have casted lures with dive lips using my normal microballoon percentage and had no problems but the lip is not as strong as the plastic ones.
If you spray your soft plastic bait with a clear before you pour your silicone. The silicone next to the bait will cure perfectly
That is an interesting idea! I'll give it a try.
As always, great video Franco. Was thinking that with the angle you have on the internal wire, won't it mean that the force exerted by a fish (or snag 😆) will cause it to straighten and cheese wire through the soft plastic? So one lure per fish?
I have built a couple of my own designs of soft plastic lures with wire harnesses and usually the body will flex enough to reduce chance of the wire slicing through the plastic. Of course if there's a big enough flex it's gonna rip.
Entertaining as always
Stay warm down there!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really cool and very creative. I’m looking forward to seeing how some of them turn out when they’re ready to fish.
Me too!
I'd love to see the action of your version!
Great video I've been thinking of how to make my own molds so this is another way that works.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, appreciate the real-time aspect.
Thanks! It's nice to show the whole process.
Thanks for the video!
Have you tried the gelatin and glycerin reusable mold technique? Thinking with price of silicone and prototyping/small batch in mind it might be a good step for kids or new builders to try. If the mold fails it is easy to re-heat the mold material and make a new mold and just try again.
It may be a good video tutorial in the future 😊
Nice idea for a video
I am 99% sure those nomad lures are made from a TPE/TPU/SEBS blend of some sort, not plastisol and that could be causing your cure inhibition issues. Great attempt, we always appreciate your efforts!
I'm glad you liked the video, good to hear some thoughts on the materials!
I have that bbdino silicone and it's a platinum cure, which negatively reacts to a lot of different things, including all plastisol, washing the lure wouldn't have made a difference. I would recommend to everyone to spend a little more and get the alumilite tin cure silicone, doesn't negatively react to much
Same experience man.
I was curious as I watched this, if spraying the lure with a clear paint would add a temporary protective layer between the plastisol and silicone would make a difference. I've never worked with either so it was just a passing thought.
I agree with you. I like the longevity of platinum cure silicon but the simplicity of use of the tin cure is definitely worth thinking about. The irony is that tin cure has always been less expensive.
@@mike1261 it doesn't work, I've tried. The only clear coat platinum cure doesn't react to us Rust-Oleum lacquer spray. It'll work with wood, but not soft plastics
@@EngineeredAngler yea it's crazy that tim cure seems to be more expensive now. Maybe because it is used more so they're taking advantage of us, idk. But I have the exact platinum cure that u use and I've only had success making molds with wood. It even reacts to the air dry clay I have
I saw you had a little problem getting the cardboard off the bottom of the mold. I put a layer of clear packing tape on the cardboard before I pour the silicone and it comes off clean
Great idea!
Nice video
I have been reproducing lures also
For a lot of the Master's of soft plastic or silicone lures
I have been carving a Master out of Popular and coating it with Shellack
I can then make several molds to pour 3 or 4 molds at one time
Elastec material doesn’t play well with other plastics and silicone. I am guessing that may have been why it didn’t set?
He said shrink factor! A nod to Seinfeld!😅
I made my lure vibe and I caught some fish with it🎉 thank you for the effort you are providing.
I'm glad you were able to use the information I share!
I tried UV resin to seal up the box for my most recent tail mold. It made a perfect seal but either I didn't cure the resin long enough or it just doesn't work with the silicon I used. Luckily the mold set up fine around the wood blank and most of the mold. Every seam in contact with the resin would not set up.
Also a possible QOW, could you explain the 1/3 rule? It seems a lot of your lures are balanced, shaped or otherwise designed with features approximately 1/3 the way from the front of the lure in order to work properly.
The 1/3 rule is a general guideline, not always 100% accurate, but it’s a good starting point for figuring out where to position things on a lure to make it work properly.
Nice work, great video 👍
Thank you 👍
Thanks for the video!
That elastic plastic reacts to other plastic with melted mess. Maybe it slowed the silicone cure
Living and learn 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video and you know that without failure you may not ever get success and you are right about the time it takes making a video I did know it was more than 20 to 30 minutes sometimes it takes more time getting everything ready to make anything. Thank you I found very edition
Yes! Thank you!
Sound of your video is only coming out my R side... when commercial starts... both sides... I don't think its my headphones...
Sorry about that I am working out the settings on my new microphone
Thankyou, what a great video, lots of time, thought, and effort offscreen to get this together. A purpose made splitshot mold for a future project ? One day in future retirement, you will be even busier. 👍 🇦🇺
Yes...custum molded interior weight video comming soon.
good episode!

@@EngineeredAngler There are many of us who greatly appreciate knowing the what's and why's!

Appreciate you checking it out!
What about a flex titanium wire for the rear harness Franco? I've made musky leaders with crimps instead of a barrel twist and it's worked well.
Love this video.
that could work...
Being a WI (brrr) Muskie angler, I was thinking about titanium wire too. Or maybe that knot to kinky wire, I think that’s what it’s called. That stuff you can tie with some knots, might knot be a useable knot for a project like this though.
I like your mold design. Using a soft plastic master is a difficult thing to do. I like how the wire used as a skeleton also makes great venting channels. Platinum silicone can be such a pain since its so sensitive to cure inhibition, but is worth it when done right for its strength. I know for a fact that it does not cure when in contact with soft plastic, while tin cure silicone does, even with a layer of vaseline. something in the plastic leaches through the Vaseline.
Thats where making a resin model sealed with lacquer becomes necessary to avoid platinum cure inhibition. its an extra process, but should only have to be done once in order to use them as masters for making platinum cure silicone molds. There are so many soft plastic lures that can be replicated for pennies, it's worth the effort if they are expensive and hard to get.
My experience with platinum silicone and soft plastic has been mixed I have had it work perfectly and then sometimes this happens. I've considered some sort of coating on the soft plastic. I'm working on that I'll do a video if I come up with something.
@EngineeredAngler awesome! Looking forward to it.
