I watched this and I've been playing the tp5x for about 5 plus years and I've never thought about switching but where I live the greens are like concrete and I bought some tp5's today to use and would shoot 2 shots around the green and the spin and check from the tp5 is probably gonna end up in my bag! Instead of landing it on the front of the green u could fly to the flag and know it was gonna hop twice then stop! And from 150 in I could flag hunt and know it was gonna stop where it hit! Ur videos are the best on RUclips!
Thx Justin. Genuinely comments like this are why I keep this rolling. Stoked to hear the testing process and you recognizing the switch might work for current turf conditions. Top man and keep at it.
@trottiegolf I just switched from the QI irons to the p790s because of your videos. what you say about golf really helps me on the course and your videos are always helpful! Keep it up man and it still blows my mind how there's other channels with more subscribers than your cause you can see the b/s in the others! Your value to taylormade and guys like me is unbelievable! You've helped my game tremendously! Thanks for everything you do! Out of anyone out there I'd love to game with you sometime pal! Thanks again!
I did a fitting the other day and the first thing I asked him was “what ball do you use.” He was confused but I was able to build a driver off of what ball he played. He understands now!
At 48 and not having the club head speed I once had ....I have found the tour response strip to be the best for my game all around ...feels good off driver ....and soft enough off irons ....stops well on greens ...but the huge advantage to me is when you putt ....have that larger visual line to me is easier to line up and I have to data to prove I am making 40 precent more of my putts since I have been gaming it ....that's worth a few yards off the tee any day ...
Great content as usual. I performed the same type of test last month where I took a sleeve of each the pro v1, pro v1x, TP5, TP5x as well as others and went from Green to the Tee with each. Tried on days when the course played fast and also slow. Windy and no wind. I know play the TP5 when the course is playing fast and TP5x when the course is playing a little slow. Thanks Trottie.
I was using a supersoft but it was scuffing to much for my like so i went to chrome soft. I love how it felt soft to me. But i had to rethink my distances bc it went at least 1 club difference in distance. I have enjoyed it a lot more. I know its not the same but the concept is there. I hope i could get fitted whenever i get club fitting if i can
Just little advice around the green for high handicaper testing balls for the feel, as the feel can be hard for some to judge especially when they aim and a target and also when the chipping game is not on point, just take a large area on the green with no pin and make some chipping, take yourself a maybe 15 yards circle to land the ball in and just chip without thinking about distance control or trajectory and focus only on rhythm and feel off the face. I did it with some guys to let them find the ball after they told me they couldn’t get the feel, magically they were able to get it after de focus from their target.
Funny enough I went and had a ball fitting the other day. Hit 60°, 7 iron and driver. Ended up with the Chrome Tour X (ik it’s not TM) but it gave me the best numbers. High spin, low launch and felt firm but not rock hard off the face. Tp5x on the other hand was a BOMBER of a ball just didn’t spin enough for me Great vid
5:01 I caught that edit trottie, before the hit you had 2 balls when you hit you only had one! I’ll. Take a sleeve of balls for paying close attention to you and your video 😂🤔
Been Playing TP5X for the last 3 years, and Love'n it, the new version is Awesome at 64 still have enough club speed. Out driving younger players playing tour response...
I really like the speed soft....I think the TP5 is a great golf ball but my golf game just isnt to a point where I can get that much more benefit and the speed soft is a much better price for now.
Man I thought the same thing but once you put them head to head the tp5 and tp5x just always comes out on top...I'm not a great golfer and I do lose a few sometimes..lol...but after hitting the project a all the way through to the tp5x I could tell a huge difference and it's all about fun for us and you want the best so if you hadn't done head to head testing you might try it one day...that's how I did it I'd hit 2 off the tee then hit 2 off the fairway then go to the green and in my opinion the tp5 is not as long as the x but the spin to keep the ball on the green was just unreal! I went through the same is why I thought I'd mention this to you so maybe it helps if you ever decide to try...good luck on the game pal! God bless
Love it! Great video (Video editing production recommendation, bass in your voice needs to be tamed a little. Oh my phone it’s not too bad but my TV where I watch most videos it is real bassy.)
Interesting video, I have been trying the TP5X and despite not swinging more than 100mph the distance and spin is very good. I may just have a look at the Tour Response as a possible better option. The durability of the cover of the TM TP5X was very impressive compared to the Callaway TourX, I had four rounds outta the TP5X before loosing it compared to one round with the Callaway
Remember if your speed is a fraction slower (100mph not bad btw) then all that happens is you don't get the full benefit of the inner core but you do leverage the layers you can compress with your speed. Conclusion, I wouldn't be too stressed with the 100mph speed and yea try the Tour Response but you might be in the right ball.
Wished they did a special release on the ink with TP5x. I would instantly buy a few dozens. The ink balls are to soft and spinny for my SS unfortunately.
i enjoy using both balls. however it would be awesome to use a ball thats between these both tp5 and tp5X like a "tp5v" or "tp5A" where the ball is between the 2 on feel, distance and spin. off the t i prefer tp5x, low to mid irons tp5, high irons both, wedges both, finesse shots tp5 and putting tp5.
Great video. Off topic Trottie, could you do a video on high lofted woods 7,9 and in particular DJ’s setup and why he uses them etc. I’m considering a 9w to replace my 5i. I have a hyb but the flight is too low off the turf
Which of the line up would be best for an 85ish mph 7 iron swing speed? Spin rates usually around 5,000. Roughly 165-170 carry distance. And if anything, my driver puts a little too much spin on the ball.
Hey trottie not sure if you can help out or not but I’ve had in issue with my TaylorMade clubs breaking, I broke the stealth and they sent me a qi10 ls which the face broke after ten shots I got an new one and a week so so latter my p7mb 7 iron head went flying 30 yards forward as I hit a range ball people say it’s because of high swing speed but idk
@@trottiegolf I hit a lot of balls and my miss is a little in the heel. it was a year old but still I think it should have lasted longer also the range balls thing is probably true with the driver never thought of that
Are they ever going to bring out the alignment aid of the tour response ball on the TP5x at all? I use to use the TP5x pix and I’m really struggling with alignment issues with that style and the previous version pix had the right alignment but the ball was a little too firm and while the alignment aid on the tour response is perfect and I love it,I’m losing about 10-15 metres off my distance with my driver😢
Check out Rick Shiels video on the Taylormade tour truck at the open. Tp5 balls with stripe were in the lockers on two tour players. Hopefully they get brought to market soon
Been playing the Tour Response for 3 seasons now. I don't have a ton of clubhead speed (never really did, and I'm 58). This ball just seems to work for me overall .. off the tee, around the greens.
TP5x is the best golf ball for me so far it spins well around the greens I goes far off the tee and I have great control with my irons I tried the TP5 it feels way to soft to me
Trottie, I went to a Taylor Made demo day and the fitter told me I should not be playing the X because my swing speed with the driver, 88 mph, was too low and I couldn't compress it enough to get thru the 5 layers. That said it was 5 yds longer than my current gamer with a 9 iron. Your thoughts?
I wouldn’t give up the 5 yards If you like the ball and it does what you want it to do then there’s your answer Okay so maybe you don’t absolutely compress all 5 layers but if the 4 are working well then I’d say game it
Tour response and q star tour are the best upper mid range ball out there. I've fallen out of love with the tp5 and it makes me sad, it feels incredible I love the ball flight the greenside spin is fantastic but it lacks distance like crazy. I'm talking 20yards less than everything else. All that being said the new tp5x is something special.
Eh??? Are you for real? It’s arguably the longest ball on the market 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Clearly you can’t compress it properly so a softer ball is better for your slow speed 🤷🏼♂️🙄
@@CharlotteK2008 exact opposite actually, I spin it too much it's literally 20 yards shorter than everything else. The new x is something special though.
Easy as all the models cover all the types of ball in the market. This video will set everyone off on the right path & if you choose to play any of these balls then it’s not gonna hurt ya
Great video I just always have a slight issue when such an amazing fitter like yourself is so aligned with one brand (I get it, it’s your job). I’d love this video again but using maybe like the Top 10 balls used based on sales. In there you would have Titleist, Srixon, TM, Mizuno etc etc. A much fairer video

Taylormade really copying Callaway with these golf balls, speedsoft is a clear knockoff of Callaway supersoft and the marks on the tour response is definitely stealing from Callaway tripletrack.
