  • I have not consulted with the surgeon yet but I took a disk home with me so I could look at my spine, and it appears to me that there is a reherniation at the same level. #microdiscectomy #microdiscectomyrecovery #herniateddisc #reherniation #L5S1

    Oh no... was it the L5-S1 that was previously worked on? On the upside... at least you may have a visual of what could resolve your pain. So sorry to see you have to go through this. You're such a strong person and you'll get through it. Things will get better. =)

      Same level. So now it’s up to me to figure out if Egoscue can really make nerve pain go away, or if I’ll be in the 90% of people who have their nerve pain go away naturally, or if it gets worse... I’ve got to meet with the surgeon first. But that’s a couple weeks away.

    I understand what you are going through right now I just had my MRI today however I did not get a disc like you but I guess me and you are in that 7 to 12% range the reason why I got the surgery is because I love to run and it's been almost a year since I last ran and it's quite frustrating I always tear up thinking that maybe I'm never going to be able to run again but then I think of Tiger Woods who had the same surgery as us for times and he just won the Masters so let's just try to stay as positive as we can and hope for the best

      @@megant3530 so I got some good news, but the doctor told me that nothing is pressing down on the nerve root after the new MRI. But for some reason I still feel tingling and pain in my leg when I sit down. I don't know I'm hoping that it goes away it's been 4 months and 4 days since my surgery. And there's a part of me that thinks maybe I'm crazy and I finally lost it and that I'm really not feeling this pain and I'm only imagining it.

    I'm sorry that you're going through this experience. I understand. I'd like to note that MRI shouldn't be treated as a diagnostic tool. It's "simply" an image that allows viewers to see what's going on with your body structurally. Something may look really bad on there, but it doesn't necessarily mean that that bad looking segment is a pain generator. Having said that, considering your surgical history, L5-S1 most likely is a pain generator by now.
    Often, with lumbar discogenic disorders, people's lower backs, SIJ's, facet joints and all the other parts become quite unstable and arthritic. It doesn't mean that you click and cluck down there all the time, but my best guess is that you have too many micro movements in that segment, especially with some part of your L5-S1 disc being gone. It sounds like you need to develop a strong core (that wraps around your body in the front and back) and neutral back to support your lower spinal joints. Unless, God forbidden, there's some sort of an ER situation, I'd strongly encourage you to try your best to avoid another surgical intervention. Chopping away at the disc that's already been cut may only lead to further instability down there, which in turn, would require rods and screws. You're not there. You're still young and despite the injury in a good shape. With proper PT/exercises and lifestyle adaptions you could still achieve a pain free/minimal pain life. I mentioned Stuart McGill's protocol a lil while ago. I don't know if you've already checked him out. Also, look into natural antiinflammatories/remedies to try to keep your pain and arthritic levels down. Some people find relief in regenerative treatments. Check them out as well.

    you should forget all kinds of physical therapy / Egoscue Megan T....you can only walk short time not every day very slowly with special running shoes and pool...physical therapy Egoscue will destroy your disk....

    It's not your fault, it can just happen reaching across the table for something. Very often surgeons don't even discuss PT, and from watching your videos I can tell that you looked after yourself as well as any of us post surgery. I did yoga for years, crazy stuff, and herniated my disc on a long haul flight! This is fixable, there is always a solution xxx

      @@megant3530 You'll know, in consultation with your doc, what the right thing to do is : ) recovery time is not that long, and the pain relief is...a relief. He might also recommend trying something else. Either way, there will be an answer and you'll be ok xx

    • @megant3530
      @megant3530  5 лет назад

      Leanne O'Sullivan I think that it’s not so bad going through the recovery one time, but this will be my second time. I’ve already been through a year and a half of this mess. Even if I have surgery tomorrow, I’m set up for another six months at minimum and then I’ll be weak again and have to go through another grueling round of physical therapy and training. I’m more discouraged that it happened again. I didn’t want to go through it the first time let alone twice. And it’s taking a lot longer for me than for other people I’ve been following. It seems to be about 80% of people are feeling fabulous and back on track after six months and then there’s the rest of us who are still struggling and having problems.

      @@megant3530 I'll take that as a word of caution. I did PT for 2 months before the sciatica started and I finally got an MRI that back pain alone didn't warrant. Then I did 2 more months of PT while my spine doc told me I was in denial and would need surgery. Sure enough, I hit a wall that PT couldn't get me past -- slightly bent over and a 10- to 15-degree lean to the right. Again, your vids and similar road to surgery have really helped me.
