I appreciate the honest take on the film for you. I grew up watching this movie and have always enjoyed it I know I has some flaws but for me personally I always ignore it because of what this movie meant to me as a child. I got an autographed photo of Michael Keaton in his Batman suit. I’m always able to throw this movie on and enjoy it I don’t compare it to other Batman movies because it was simply my first Batman man especially when you compare it to the Nolan films obviously the story writing in that is flawless compared to this. Thanks again for the great review 👍🏻
I still love this film, always have and always will. And yes, I can acknowledge its flaws and can admit that newer Batman films are better. But I've loved the film ever since I was a kid. It was one of my first introductions to the character, the other being Batman the Animated Series. I also really like Jack Nicholson as Joker. Regardless, I appreciate you giving this movie another chance, even if you don't care for it that much. :)
It's always been an iconic film for me. I love the mood, pacing and I don't think you could have asked for anything more in terms of a performance for Keaton and Nicholson
I’ve been waiting for so long for you to review the older Batman movies. This is great! I wrote this comment before watching the review and while I disagree with some of your points, I can kinda see where you’re coming from. I don’t think it’s a perfect movie but imo it’s one of the best Batman’s along with Batman Returns. Great video tho!
I would’ve liked to have seen a third one with Tim Burton. I know they were going to use Marlon Wayans as Robin. Billie Dee Williams was meant to return, becoming Two-Face. Robin Williams as The Riddler and Brad Dourif as Scarecrow were meant to be in it too. Those are all really interesting casting choices and I would’ve liked to have seen Burton’s take on those characters.

I may get in trouble for saying this, but I do like how Batman 1966 looked, and I do like some of the campy goofy moments (not all of it holds up as of 2022) as much as I like the more darker tone of Batman I am not a huge fan of how Batman can be in your face dark. I know I may get a lot of hate comments for saying that but here me out: my perfect version of Batman is where it is campy but goes serious when it needs to (much like the Sam Rami spiderman trilogy). Overall I hear why people may hate Batman 1966, but I do like how vibrant that version of Batman is. Feel free to disagree with me, but just try to understand where I am coming from.
Nothing wrong with Batman 1966, i recently watched it for the first time in 20 years expecting it to be terrible, i loved it still and and it's my 4th favourite Batman movie after Batman Returns, Batman 1989, and the LEGO Batman movie.
Yeah I feel like people always overstate how campy it is. There are characters who literally die in the show and the villains are true threats in the show. Also people forget that these are made for kids, and it gets a decent portrayal of Batman
what the hell....I JUST finished re-watching this movie (for like the 1000th time) like 5 minutes ago...closed Hulu, opened up youtube and here you are reviewing it. Crazy haha
I did grow up with this film. I was born in 1987, and while I was only two when it first came out, I watched it a lot on video, along with Batman Returns. I admit that the movie is very flawed in many ways but, I can't help it; the two Burton movies and the animated series are the essence of Batman to me. It's one of those movies I always have a lot of fun watching and I doubt that will ever change. Honestly, knowing your mixed feelings about these older movies and Tim Burton in general, 3 out of 5 is a pretty good score.
If you were born in 87 I would say I thought you really didn’t grow up with this movie you didn’t release witness its release you weren’t old enough. This movie started the comic book movie craze! Not to mention the one-liners joker has, the explanation of his make up. And the scene so iconic when the bat wing flies up in the moons glow creating the bat symbol! And the finale jogger pulls out the freaking leg long gone, and then the long trek up the church tower to the final scene it’s great and it started everything
@@littlegreenbud2067 I agree that it's great. I love this movie. And yeah, I was too young to really experience the phenomenon it was when it was released, as I was only two, but I watched it numerous times on video when I was a kid. For me, that counts as having grown up with it, as it does with numerous other films I watched constantly when I was a kid that came out before or shortly after I was born.
I definitely am nostalgic when it comes to this movie, but these are fair criticisms. You should rank the Batman actors! Also, the last sequence of this film with Elfman’s score and Batman on the rooftop is epic.
I'm on the side that loves the movie and every single time I watch it I ask I don't know why someone would think it's a bad batman movie overall. It is the first batman film I ever saw when i was 7 and my introduction to the Joker who I never heard of before. The only problem I have with it is joker "falling" for Vicki vale, don't care about any of that. Glad you can at least enjoy some aspects cuz it's the best out of the first 4.
21:23 They make fun of that scene in Batman Returns when Alfred talks about fixing the Batmobile after Penguin took control of it and smashed it up. And when he mentions security Bruce says "Security? Who let Vicki Vale into the Batcave?"
As a Batman (1989) die hard fan. This review could not be more accurate. I'll continue to love it. But I totally respect and can get behind everything you're saying. These criticisms don't feel out of left field. Great review Cody🙏
Cody I absolutely agree with you, but this movie is a childhood favourite for me and one of my favourite movies, but I absolutely acknowledged all the floors in this movie. Great review Cody.
Back when I was a kid, I played the first Lego Batman game and that brought me to the 1989 movie. When I heard the music in the film, it felt nostalgic
I started watching Batman 1989, around the time Batman and Robin came out. It's been a childhood favorite of mine ever since. But after watching your review, Cody. Your right about this film. Nicholson is literally the lead star of the movie and that's my favorite thing about this movie. The rest of it has its moments. The ending of the movie, featuring Danny Elfman's incredible score is one of my favorite movie endings.
Nostalgia wise this is my favorite batman. The dark knight trilogy has the best storyline. But if I had to only pick one Batman movie to watch, this is it. Just the most fun.
I will give the movie credit, having Joker technically be the man that created Batman, who then becomes the one to ultimately create The Joker, which is then a nemesis of his that seems to be tethered to him, always fucking with him, is a nice story element to the character. I always liked the idea that they had created their own nemesis’ within each other
I think Batman 1989 in particular is still widely liked because of the positives you mentioned: Gotham City, Michael Keaton's Batman, and Jack Nicholson's Joker. And it's most likely the same way with Batman Returns and its characters, especially Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman and Danny Devito's Penguin.
IMO I think the movie is a good movie, however, I just can’t love it as much as I want to. Everything with the joker is spot on, Jack Nicholson does a INCREDIBLE job. On the flip side, Batman, outside of Michael’s excellent performance, doesn’t hit right with me, they got aspects right, but seeing him kill people without remorse just put a bad taste in my mouth (yes, I’m one of those Bat fans), especially when he DELIBERATELY dropped Joker into the acid pit, thereby creating him. I also wished we could of seen Batman do more detective work; he figures out Jokers plan off screen, which to me should of been a major plot development, but was treated like a after thought, honestly, Batman feels like a after thought throughout the movie. The entire plot just felt, meh, like, it feels like nothing really happens in the movie. That’s just my opinion, and I get why people love this movie, Tim burtons style is always a treat, and his version of Gotham is one of the most iconic places in cinema, at least to me. If I would have to give it a ranking, I’d say it’s a solid 7/10.
I respect your on opinon on Batman 1989, but i really like this movie. As much i love Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger as Joker, but i still like Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as Joker and Danny Elfmans score is iconic. Great review Cody and take care and stay safe 👍.
I love this movie but I completely understand and even agree with your points. When you mentioned the story, I tried to think in my head how to describe the plot, and it’s pretty difficult, lol. Mostly it’s just Jack Nicholson chewing scenery and Michael Keaton being awesome. It’s definitely a style over substance movie, but in my opinion, the style is so damn good that it doesn’t matter. I was born in 1985, and even though I was little, I remember how much of a cultural phenomenon it was.
randomly stumbled upon your videos in 2019 and have been a sideline viewer since i found you after watching dead meat watching 31 on 31 for halloween , but finally made an account just to sub ..... cant wait till you blow up on this youtube channel man we love success stories !!
I remember being 9 years old and seeing this in theaters and being blown away...30 years later nostalgia aside ..it doesn't really hold up to what it was in 1989. It was great for the time it was released in. This would not be as revered if released today. The whole thing about people complaining about Batfleck killing in those movies I always thought was ridiculous. This batman killed more than that version. Hell even Christopher reeves superman killed General zod and his minions in superman 2. So that argument about man of steel holds no merit
I love that I can watch your channel and get different opinions that I don't get in most other review channels. It makes your channel that much more fun and interesting to watch. Big fan!
Man -- the summer of '89 was something special for pop culture. The bat symbol was everywhere! I remember going to Seaside Heights, N.J., and feeling like the entire boardwalk was re-faced to market the film. I was eight then and have been hooked on the character/mythology ever since.
Strapping myself in. I've been kind of avoiding this playlist because, though I'm someone who never really gets upset at bad takes over imaginary things, Batman has been such a crucial and consistent thing in my life that this may be the one to do it. lol I'm scholarly when it comes to the Batman mythos and history, so a lot of people are missing a lot of context and then pop off with some wildly inaccurate takes regarding him or his world, which gets my inner angsty teen twitching with frustration. Alright, let's do this.
I feel like six flags in Arlington Texas started having a huge batman theme after these movies. They even had a batman stunt show. Can't remember the last time I saw this movie, gotta give it a rewatch
Okay Cody: You warned me...And guess what: I still love your channel, and I still love this movie, ( Batman Returns as well! ) and I appreciate the points you made: Great review man. 😁
Great review. I appreciate your point of view and understand the criticisms. Myself, being 6 in 89, this blew me away watching it a theater with a pack crowd. For some people, there isn't enough Batman and the story wasn't meaty enough. I've always loved the "less is more approach to the use of Batman. Batman is at his most mysterious in the movie and I've always enjoyed that aspect. There are a lot of nods to Batman 66 which I loved as kid, and still enjoy for what it is. And this always felt to me like a darker adaptation of Batman 66. The dutch tilts a in certain moments. Joker defacing paintings in a museum was from a Batman 66 episode. Even when he using his bat-arang in the opening of the film on the two tweaked out muggers, it opens up the same as the Adam West bat-arang. Nicholson is my favorite Joker. The bat suit, the music score of course Gotham City itself is perfect and right from the pages of the comics. I even like the pacing of the movie. That's why the moment Batman comes through the glass in the museum, it's so damn exciting. Not to mention the best damn batmobile ever. I've always loved this movie. I might be biased, but the impact of when this movie his was strong, and my generation still feels it to this day.
It was Tim Burton's idea to have Alfred bring Vicki into the Batcave. Sam Hamm (writer) tried to fight against it, but Tim still wanted it in the script. That should've been Alfred's last day on the job for doing that. Lol.
I feel like Prince might have had an influence on this movie beyond the soundtrack. Some things about the story feel like stuff Prince would roll with. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it.
One of my favorite Batman movies I understand it doesn’t hold up as well as it use to but there’s just something about it that I love 🦇Good review Cody!!!
Something I noticed while watching Batman Begins the other day and it has to do with the inability to move the head. When Bruce rescues Rachel and brings her back to the cave and is watching over her, he removes the cowl. This is before he joins his birthday party. Just lifts it off his head. Which made me think, "why does he need his head to turn in The Dark Knight when it's clearly not attached? Maybe the movement is weird for him, but I just had that, "wait a minute moment."
Batman '89 and Batman Returns are my favorite Batman films. They're not perfect, but overall the films were awesome. My absolute favorite Batman though is Batman The Animated Series.
Before mentioning it's flaws, remember its the first of its kind. Its easy to look back over 30 years later, after dozens of other comic book movies have since been made to then pick apart what flaws the 89' Batman movie has. This movie was the first movie i ever saw in theaters when I was 5 and ignited my life long love of the character
Fun fact: this movie came out around the same time as Jason Takes Manhattan. In fact when you watch the scenes involving Time Square in JTM, you can see the Batman symbol
I saw this twice at the cinema in 89 when it opened. It really was a phenomenon and a product of marketing genius: t shirts, orchestral score, Prince's ssoundtrack and all the extra paraphernalia. The movie itself is like a moving painting and oozes atmosphere with its incredible sets and accompanying score from Elfman. Batman himself and Vikki Vale are pretty dull but The Joker steals the movie. Cody is right about the story. It's dull. But I'm not a Batman fan anyway. I don't rate the Nolan films, although I did like Dark Knight. If I had to pick, Adam West is my favourite.
13:08 Yeah the story is pretty simple. Batman's trying to bring down Carl Grissom but while trying to catch Grissom's bodyguard Jack Napier Napier falls into a chemical vat and becomes The Joker. He then poisons people to get attention on him instead of Batman who finds out Joker killed his parents along the way.
I love Batman! The first 4 are now looked at (largely) as cheesy and cartoony, while the next 3 as darker and taken way more seriously, but I love them all. Can't wait for #8!
For some reason, I never owned this DVD as a kid, so I mostly watched 'Batman Returns' all the time. It wasn't only till recently that I truly got to respect the '89 movie in all its due glory. 🙏🏽 Great funny video, Cody! The movie clip edits were pure gold. 🙌🏽 + 17:04: this is my exact dream scenario with Cody 💀🤪🌝😂💨
since we starting wit the batmans imma start of by saying i LOVR Tim Burton taking things literal (Batman sleeps upside down 😂, the villain origins) and gr8 review as usual 🔥🔥
Best Batman ever. But I can understand your criticisms. Nicholson's my favourite Joker. I could see elements of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns and the early Gothic, neo noir, Golden Age Batman comics.
Burton films are my favourite outta the bunch but I can see why they're not for everyone and I have mad nostalgia for Forever, really looking forward to this new one though 😁 Glad to hear you're doing a Mask of the Phantasm review as I've not long rewatched it for the first time in a decade and it still holds up! Awesome video Cody! Looking forward to all the Bat content we're gonna get😀
21:17 had me laughing my ass off. Honestly I completely agree with you pretty much, first time watching this I was bored for huge chunks of it, in fact if I remember right I watched about ten minutes of it then skipped to the ACE Chemicals scene. Parts like the music are very dated (not the Elfman score of course), the style I do really like, but some of the holes with the effects and the use of miniatures do stick out pretty badly to me, and as you said what in the hell is the story of this film? I think that's my biggest issue with it since it's so all over the place and uninteresting in terms of plot or themes. I like Keaton as Batman performance wise rather than his (in my opinion) underwritten character, Nicholson's Joker doesn't do a whole lot for me outside of a few brief moments, and aside from Alfred (who like Batman isn't interesting to me but is acted well) every other character in the film is boring to me. The style of the film is mostly great but that's about it for me. Granted, I saw this just before the Dark Knight Rises came out, and I was born in 2000 so I grew up on the first two films in that trilogy, so I watched this film and was pretty excited to see a different earlier take on Batman and his universe, but it completely fell flat for me.
I really like this movie, but I can totally see a lot of your points. I'm most looking forward to the review of Forever, as I think that film is a little better than it gets credit for.
Oh man. I can’t wait for your Batman & Robin review lmao. I still like this film but I’m in mostly the same boat as you. Not a big Burton guy to begin with and despite me liking a lot of things about the film especially the look, I’m never all that interested in revisiting this film much.
When I was 5 years old. I always asked my mom if I can rent this film. And I asked again again again again again again again and again. Always loved this film. But now looking at it when I was 20 I noticed that this film has amazing set designs, amazing Music, amazing performance of the joker, and most importantly for me THE AMAZING PERFORMANCES OF MICHAEL KEATON. But that's it. The story is not that amazing. The perfect words to describe this film is "Style over Substance." But for me I keep coming back to this film cause everything positive for me in this film.
This is my second favorite Batman movie, my favorite Batman character. Cody has on the Punisher hat so I already know what that means. Do your thing Cody
This film holds up on its own without the pop culture significance. It's a well made movie. Flawed for sure. But Burton and his crew crafted some truly memorable cinematic moments in this movie. Burton as a director understood the importance of the big moments. I love the Dark Knight. It's a better movie than Batman (89). But Batman 89 is a better comic book Batman movie IMO. The tumbler is awesome, but it does not compare to the first time you see the Batmobile in this movie. That music swell. The audience erupted. Same when he flies Bat Wing to silhouette the moon. It's just awesome. Comic book awesome. This film easily has the best Wayne parents death scene. "You ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light". Chilling. I could go on but I won't. Haha. Enjoyed the review as always.
This is absolutely one of my favorite movies. I grew up with this movie and it still holds a lot of weight to me in my heart. I totally agree with your take on Gotham City itself being a character- something I never felt in The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises. To me Gotham looked a lot better in Batman Begins. I’m also glad you appreciated Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Nothing you said in terms of criticism offended me in the least. I totally get it. Always appreciate your reviews Cody. Even when I don’t agree with them- that’s the beauty of any form of art. We all can appreciate different things and it doesn’t negate or take away from something if we like it and someone else doesn’t. Overall I think this was a very fair critique. This movie will always hold a special place in my heart- but I definitely understand the criticisms. Keep up the good work, Cody!
I love the twist how Joker creates the Batman and Batman creates the Joker. I enjoy the movie and love its set, music, performances, and action scenes. The story criticism are fair given that there were scripting issues during production (there was a writer's strike, at least 4 writers, plus studio interference and allegedly Tim Burton moving the production to the UK to avoid the notorious Jon Peters). Still, I think the movie's strengths do outweigh its script-story issues, unlike Batman vs Superman (which struggled due to them, along with a serious miscast with Lex Luthor and studio-mandated scene/story cuts). I happen to have massive story issues with Casino Royale, which is why I like that movie far less than Bond fans and movie critics (and booed the movie when it ended while everyone else clapped when I saw it at theaters). So I feel your pain Cody on this one.
While I am a fan of the 1989 Batman, (especially Keaton as Batman) I think your criticisms are fair. It didn't have much of a plot. It relied on Keaton & Nicholson's performances of the two iconic characters. I love your point about the plot line being Batman vs Joker over Vicki's piece of ass. It made me laugh. That was pretty much it. I was 16 when this movie came out. I think I saw it about 4-5 times in the theater. I loved it, it does hold meaning to me, but again I think your criticisms are on point and fairly laid out. Good job Cody.
I always viewd this movie not as a comic book adaptation, but as a darker and "serious " version of the 60s TV show, so that's why for me Jack Nicholson was the perfect transition to what Cesar Romero did with the same character.
I saw this movie in the theatre in NYC. It certainly hasn't aged well. I find it interesting that the TV Joker (Caesar Romero) commented that Jack Nicholson played the part too dark and serious. Not nearly as dark as Ledger would take it.
@@anthonyclark9441 If you take off the nostalgia goggles, it most certainly is not "damn near flawless" no. The movie has plenty of problems script wise that people choose to ignore. Batman is barely focused on as well.
@@anthonyclark9441 Right. It's an objective fact that it's not a flawless film. Your enjoyment of it is subjective. You only need to know a little bit of what good writing is, to realize the movie is poorly constructed.
It's funny, I loved the film when I was younger, but I haven't watched it in years. When the Dark Knight trilogy came out, I remember thinking that it was better. But now I'm going to have to re-watch the 1989 version to see if it still works for me.
It's all about the Member Berries. I was in middle school when it came out, saw it opening weekend with a group of friends, and have loved it ever since. There are major problems with it for sure, but I still love it. Now, the other three in that series....not so much.
A darker and grittier version of batman was what the franchise needed at the time. Aside from the comics all there was was the TV version which didn't quite scratch that itch for fans.. the world wasn't ready form the Nolan versions in the 90s It could also be argued that without this film. The Nolan versions might not have happened at all nor became as popular as they were. Jack Nicholson made the joker a sought after role and changed the way that character was viewed forever
I ADORE THIS MOVIE!!!!! Seriously this film has had such a huge impact on my life. As with all critics I respect everyone's opinion as we all have different tastes. Hey, look, you gave your honest opinion and that's all we as viewers should ask for. If we were all the same what a boring world that would be. Personally this is my second favorite Batman film after The Dark Knight (although if we are counting Joker and ZSJL that would be a little different).
Though I'd say I like it more than you, I am in the same boat. I appreciate it for what it did but it is not my go-to Batman movie. I can put it on and have a good time but it's aged poorly. Really great review, Cody! I love the little gags and skits you come up with. I'd love to see more of that in future reviews. I feel like there aren't enough funny reviewers out there. At least not ones that don't transform the entire review into a sketch show.
The hype really was crazy back in 1989. Everybody and their brother had a Batman shirt with that iconic yellow Batman symbol logo on it that summer. I really enjoy this movie for nostalgia reasons but Nolan's movies are definitely better. Oh and this is my favorite Batmobile as well in this movie.
1989 I remember it was crazy, not a few people in line but try blocks and blocks of people , camping out side for a spot . I had to wait 2 weeks before I could walk in and see it. And it didn't disappoint. You have to remember Batman had never been put on a tv or screen as A dark vigilante, of course the fandom were for Jack The joker , they cheered loud for Jack and grew to love Michael as Batman. Say wht you will but this movie started it all , without it , you have shit. For me I still to this day believe Batman Dark Knight is the best super hero and Batman movie of all time and it will stay that way for a long long time. But 89 Batman you have to respect , times change and in 50 years people will say the same campy things about TDK, trust me they will . Batman 89 is a movie you can watch , have a few laughs and enjoy. I love The Nolan Batman movies but man do you ever need a lot of time. You can not just throw it on a lot cause it's to long. Batman89 it's a joy ride , short sweet and to the point .
cody, the first time i saw batman 89 was when i was little and i enjoyed seeing michael keaton fight the joker and same can be easily said about when i later saw Batman returns in the 90s also both batman and batman returns are rewatchable today because its fun seeing michael keaton's batman fight off villians as well as interact with women like vicki vale in this first film, and selina kyle in the second film tim burton did a great job with these films, presenting a gotham city thats unique to these two films now the music by danny elfman and prince for this film, both are terrific the best song by prince for this film would have to be "batdance" whereas with elfman, there are scores in the film that i like, especially the piece where batman and vicki vale are in the batmobile heading to the batcave which is called descent into mystery, and it mixes orchestral and a choral bit jack nicholson as joker is terrific i grew up with these films, and i enjoy them i appreciate you giving this film a decent review, and maybe you will rewatch returns
Well, when it comes to the Joker in the movie he is just crazy for crazy sake in the comics. In most Batman comics the Joker isn't out to teach some lesson about chaos like the Dark Knight the only comic he really does is the Killing joke. In most Batman comics Joker is just insane but I get what you're saying if you want something deeper besides just a standard superhero romp you arent getting that with this. This movie is more about just having a good time it doesn't care about having any deeper themes or anything.
God I love the shit outta this movie. Probably mostly for nostalgia but my favorite Batman out of the older series of the movies.
I appreciate the honest take on the film for you. I grew up watching this movie and have always enjoyed it I know I has some flaws but for me personally I always ignore it because of what this movie meant to me as a child. It's always been an iconic film for me. I love the mood, pacing and I don't think you could have asked for anything more in terms of a performance for Keaton and Nicholson
Ok. 👍🏻

This is one of my favorite movies ever. Saw it in the theater at 8 years old. Still watch it yearly.
As did I,I was 9 so I know exactly what you mean. There was nothing like that summer
I may get in trouble for saying this, but I do like how Batman 1966 looked, and I do like some of the campy goofy moments (not all of it holds up as of 2022) as much as I like the more darker tone of Batman I am not a huge fan of how Batman can be in your face dark.
Batman Forever is one of my favorites because it combines the dark thematic elements of the Burton films with the camp and vibrancy of the TV series
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, the 60’s Batman was very indicative of the 60’s.
Fun fact! The 89' Batman logo was clearly seen in Time sqaure in Jason takes Manhattan in the shot over looking Jason's shoulder 😬😍(1989)
And in the beginning of the movie
Jack Nicholson's face reconstruction scene is one of the most terrifying comic book movie scenes of all time
That is a very creepy scene and atmosphere
what the hell....I JUST finished re-watching this movie (for like the 1000th time) like 5 minutes ago...closed Hulu, opened up youtube and here you are reviewing it. Crazy haha
I see everything!
@@CodyLeachYT can you do a video on top 10 video games that need a remake?
I did grow up with this film. I was born in 1987, and while I was only two when it first came out, I watched it a lot on video, along with Batman Returns. I admit that the movie is very flawed in many ways but, I can't help it; the two Burton movies and the animated series are the essence of Batman to me. It's one of those movies I always have a lot of fun watching and I doubt that will ever change.
Honestly, knowing your mixed feelings about these older movies and Tim Burton in general, 3 out of 5 is a pretty good score.
I agree.
I don’t know Batman returns might be a little better, just because of Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman
@@littlegreenbud2067 I actually can't argue that because I find batman returns to be more fast paced and even a little more entertaining.
The "Alfred!! Your literally gonna wash my balls with a loofah" That really cracked me up 🤣
21:23 They make fun of that scene in Batman Returns when Alfred talks about fixing the Batmobile after Penguin took control of it and smashed it up.
It's amazing how different vintages of people can't appreciate things the same. I was born in the early 80's. Folks my age see BATMAN 1989 as AMAZING!
Same bro
Back when I was a kid, I played the first Lego Batman game and that brought me to the 1989 movie. When I heard the music in the film, it felt nostalgic
Same here.
21:08 - 21:21 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And that ending line was the cherry on top.
I will give the movie credit, having Joker technically be the man that created Batman, who then becomes the one to ultimately create The Joker, which is then a nemesis of his that seems to be tethered to him, always fucking with him, is a nice story element to the character. I always liked the idea that they had created their own nemesis’ within each other
Yeah but then they were enemy's for how long before Batman just kills him.
I’m glad your doing this review series. Batman is also my favorite superhero.
17:10 Vicki's constant screaming when literally anything happened probably put Bruce off after a while.
I was born in and raised in the 1980's and this was my first batman film and I love it I do understand you side of things but I still enjoy this film
I always liked how Jack’s Joker was a portly mob boss type.
Batman: "That ass."
I hit the floor with that one
Hahaha awesome
This film is classic perfection to me. Forever. I'm a huge Tim Burton fan 😁
Yep, I remember this clearly. Batdance being played on MTV all the time. Loved it.
I grew up on this Batman, love Nicholson as Joker and Keaton is my personal favorite Batman to this day! Danny Elfman’s score is one of the best!
Thank you for pointing that out. Tbh that's my problem with all the batman live action movies. They always have him kill
One of my favorite movies ever, got Keatons batman tattooed on me when I was 17.
You have the best videos on RUclips Cody sincerely Wayne
One of my all time favourite movies and 100% my favourite superhero movie, Jack & Michael are both my favourite joker & Batman
I love Batman! The first 4 are now looked at (largely) as cheesy and cartoony, while the next 3 as darker and taken way more seriously, but I love them all. Can't wait for #8!
Batman 1989 is my favorite movie
As much as I love this, I still prefer Batman Returns, also I respect your opinion and views of this film. I appreciate your honesty.
Glad you appreciate other opinions.
Cody I checked out Banshee after your QA video and man do I love it now. Thanks bud
For some reason, I never owned this DVD as a kid, so I mostly watched 'Batman Returns' all the time. It wasn't only till recently that I truly got to respect the '89 movie in all its due glory. 🙏🏽
Great funny video, Cody! The movie clip edits were pure gold. 🙌🏽
+ 17:04: this is my exact dream scenario with Cody 💀🤪🌝😂💨
since we starting wit the batmans imma start of by saying i LOVR Tim Burton taking things literal (Batman sleeps upside down 😂, the villain origins) and gr8 review as usual 🔥🔥
Best Batman ever.
But I can understand your criticisms.
Nicholson's my favourite Joker.
I could see elements of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns and the early Gothic, neo noir, Golden Age Batman comics.
Burton films are my favourite outta the bunch but I can see why they're not for everyone and I have mad nostalgia for Forever, really looking forward to this new one though 😁
Glad to hear you're doing a Mask of the Phantasm review as I've not long rewatched it for the first time in a decade and it still holds up!
The thing with the Joker in this one is that he is just a pure psychopath, he literally just wants to kill but in, what he sees as, a funny way
When I was 5 years old.
Superman 1 and 2 (Donner Cut) are not campy. They took the material seriously and that's why those films are landmarks in the genre.
Coincidentally, I was listening to the Batdance earlier today. Good timing.
Do you ever dance with the devil by the pale moonlight?
Why yes...yes I did
I love that Michael Keaton is coming back as Batman in the Flash it will be so cool
I'm very excited to see what they do with him
@@CodyLeachYT And ironic how we both have Affleck Batman and Keaton Batman in it too
This is my second favorite Batman movie, my favorite Batman character.
So I feel your pain Cody on this one.
what is your outro song called cody?
Awesome content as always Cody keep it up man!
I love 89 Batman watched this movie a hundred times. The best joker in movies is heith ledger. Best cartoon joker is the legendary mark Hamill.
My favorite batman film. It also has my favorite live action batman and joker.
Mine too. It's damn near flawless.
@@anthonyclark9441 If you take off the nostalgia goggles, it most certainly is not "damn near flawless" no. The movie has plenty of problems script wise that people choose to ignore. Batman is barely focused on as well.
@@crisp3891 It’s dated, but the performances are good. Almost everything else is verging on cringe. Returns holds up a lot better IMO.
@@crisp3891 well I'm not taking them off so there's that. You don't agree. I don't have an issue with it, but I don't give a damn either.
Facts Cody, Gotham is surreal in these movies
That wedding crashers clip floored me 🤣🤣🤣
Though I'd say I like it more than you, I am in the same boat.
I remember my parents taking me to see Batman and I loved it and still do.
Batman89 it's a joy ride , short sweet and to the point .
cody, the first time i saw batman 89 was when i was little
and i enjoyed seeing michael keaton fight the joker
and same can be easily said about when i later saw Batman returns in the 90s also
both batman and batman returns are rewatchable today because its fun seeing michael keaton's batman fight off villians
as well as interact with women like vicki vale in this first film, and selina kyle in the second film
tim burton did a great job with these films, presenting a gotham city thats unique to these two films
now the music by danny elfman and prince for this film, both are terrific
the best song by prince for this film would have to be "batdance"
whereas with elfman, there are scores in the film that i like, especially the piece where batman and vicki vale are in the batmobile heading to the batcave which is called descent into mystery, and it mixes orchestral and a choral bit
jack nicholson as joker is terrific
i grew up with these films, and i enjoy them
i appreciate you giving this film a decent review, and maybe you will rewatch returns
You might be missing the awesome homage of alfred hitchcock's Vertigo at the end of the film.
I am the one of the fans of this movie where this may be my favorite, but I respect and understand your opinion 100%.
Congrats on 100K 🤙🏼🤟🏻
