You 2 are the only ones to ever mispronounce RIS.
RIZZ 😏 three
maybe it's a joke? 🤣 he did say ris 2 right tho
But he got that riz
RIZZZZZZ
And ambidextrous
As someone who has served in combat with a group of 10 guys where half of them had 10.3 ris 2 mk18’s and the other half had 11.5 mlock urgi’s, here’s what happened to the mk18 guys.
As soon as the urgi guys came on board, every one of the mk18 guys had their rifles jam up on them. There’s just something about being in the presence of a superior rifle that caused the other ones to fall apart. When in the field, we noticed that right at the hour mark, all to the guys with the mk18 had their arms fall off due to the overwhelming and strenuous weight of having a rifle that was a couple ounces heavier and had to be medevacked from the field while the urgi guys kept going. We also noticed that any engagement past 200 yards, the urgi guys would still get kills but anyone carrying an mk18 would have their bullets bounce of their enemies like airsoft bb’s due to such a drastic reduction in velocity between the two platforms. Also, all of the mk18 guys contracted AIDS from their rifles.
So yes, the 11.5 urgi is not just a minor improvement over the mk18 where at the end of the day the skill of the one using the weapon is what matters most, it is a groundbreaking, massive leap in technology where if you don’t upgrade from your mk18 to the urgi, you will die every time in combat if you go up against someone who has one due to the massive and overwhelming leap of technology that shaving a couple ounces and gaining a tiny bit of muzzle velocity can bring.
At 200 yrds its only 100fps difference 😂
I love that Mark LaRue decided to make "A better trigger for 1/3rd the price" out of essentially spite and wanting to put quality in people's hands at a good price.
I have a DD MK18 it will always be one of my favorite tools.
How far do you push it put to? I want one….
@@MrOhman86 I take my Colt 10.3 to 200 yards every time I'm at the range. No "self defense" shooting is happening at anything over 50 ft. The Mk18 is light, most are accurate (the Colt or DD versions) and mine has run 100 percent suppressed since I've owned it. No failures at all. It'll take brass or steel like a boss and keep running
@@adamjones1641 yeah that’s about how far I wanna go out with it. What type of optic/red dot combo you using?
It’s sad we now have to pay over $2000 for a good AR-15 and then have to swap out stocks, charging handles, and triggers to make it run like what a $2000 gun should. Now it’s a$2700 gun.
After DD lowered the port size to a 0.70 from the original 0.82, you could then run a standard carbine buffer, and not only does it function, it isn't over gassed, and is very pleasant to shoot. It actually has SOME relevancy left in the tank
very true
Love seeing a local PC business get some love on YT. Roys definitely a cool dude met his numerous times at the shop.
I have the DD M4A1 RIS III (no rise ;) and love it! Quickly became my fav after getting some good range time with it. I've heard some peeps were under the impression that the RIS III is replacing the RIS II. That is definitely not the case. RIS II quad rails are not going anywhere.. 🤘
I run a drop-in Bootleg Gas Adjustable BCG and the Radian Raptor SD CH in my MK18. Gas blowback is reduced greatly. The Bootleg Gas Adjustable BCG has 4 presets and the switch is accessible from the ejection port with any common screwdriver type tool. I use all 4 settings depending on ammo and with/without suppressor can on. As the gun get's dirtier, you generally need to open up the BCG port a bit more. I keep my adjustment tool in the grip storage and a spare in other pouches.
Keep in mind that while the RIS3 is very solid and feels great, it is way overbuilt and barely lighter than the RIS2. So if you prefer a quad rail, it doesn’t really matter because even the 12“ version is only about 1oz lighter than the R2 whereas the longer 13.5 MFR mlok handguard is about 6 or 7 oz lighter than the 12“ RIS M4
I really don't get the DD crappy furniture "dogma". The grip is super comfortable and the stock is just right.
I feel like that's just more bs from the dipshit basement reddit guys that poo poo on everything that's popular and "not cool enough".
I enjoy the grip as well, but hate the stock
Yeah it’s really a preference thing. My delta 5 pro has the DD grip obviously. I have no plans to change it
It wouldn´t be a "build" if they didn´t change the stock and grip. That´s probably half the reason.
Dude I love them. Really bugs me that people hate on it so much
B&H TG Scoped Carbine is a great class, also just did the medical class alpha. Great stuff every time with these guys.
I do have a RISII and it rocks!
Thousands of rounds through it and it keeps going.
Zero malfunction. I can shoot a bee at 100m.
Light, fast, nimble and accurate.
The perfect PDW and CQB option.
I love DD furniture myself, however I bought a BCM SOPMOD 1 and it has taken the place of my DD stock on my go to Rifle.
Great information, Thanks!
I pinned an adjustable gas block on my BA 11.5 with RC2 it runs great. It will be dedicated suppressed to maintain reliability. Keep an Allen wrench in the pistol grip just in case. I have also had good luck with Vltor A5 buffer system and A5-2 buffer weight on an unsuppressed Mk18 Mod 3 with Colt 11.5 barrel.
You guys are so awesome lol. Thanks for the great content.
My home brew 10.3 build is what I generally teach people on that haven't fired 5.56 AR15s much before. It's lighter, shorter, easier to maneuver. Just running an a2 muzzle device atm. It's a good entry for females or kids or weaker adults
An adjustable gas block would help with the gas too(which im sure you already thought of). Ive got the Superlative Arms one and i love it. Especially running my rifle suppressed, its a big help.
My MK18 has ruined 3 different adjustable gas blocks. The last one just yesterday. Odin Works, Syrac Ordnance both completely seized up. The SLR cracked right through the top, where the gas tube is yesterday. The funny thing was, that I already have a new non adjustable gasblock handy, that I was going to replace this week😄 i was just testing two of my rifles after installing the A5 buffer system yesterday and am ordering another gasblock for the second rifle. Was going to replace both actually.
I have 4 SLR gasblocks. 2 steel, 2 titanium. I had the most issues with the steel ones seizing up. But those were the ones i shot the most and 90% suppressed. I‘ve had them seizing up often and on one of them the little leaf spring plate once fell out with the detent, so the adjustment scree would back out and the rifle would stop cycling. The titanium ones work well and the adjustment screw perhaps doesn’t carbon lock as much because of the titanium, but i still don’t trust them enough. But I‘ll keep the titanium ones until they fail me, as they are installed in more recreacional fun gun builds. One of them is dedicated suppressed though.
Long story short, my heavy duty guns are no longer getting adjustable gasblocks. The only ones I might still try are the superlative arms, just to give it a shot and the Riflespeed one which is the only current design that seems like I could trust it. I‘ll probably end up skipping the superlative and just go with the Riflespeed one last time before I fully dismiss the adjustable gasblock concept😄
Currently considering a 12.5 build where I chop my DD lightweight midlength 14.5 barrel, so as to have a smaller gasport and then just mess with buffers and springs until it works and is reliable. Last resort would be opening up the gasport, if I find that it is undergassed
I have the DD M18 RII and I shoot it everyday I even competed with it in The Tactical Game. I love everything about it especially the balance of the gun.
Those inside shots of the car, Where everything.!! And of course with the world we live the MK 18 is definitely relevant!!
I have both r2 and 3. Both are awesome I’m back to running my r2 more. The cheese grader picatinny is like a built in handstop and I run my guns slick on the bottom so it helps.
If I were to get a short DD R3, I‘d go with the 11.5 instead of the 10.3“ and call it close enough for a semi mk18 inspired build. It’s great that DD offers it that way now! That being said, I can’t part with my 10.3 Mk18 because it’s just a classic but would stick to 11.5 in the future. Though I‘ll probably get the Geissele super duty next, because it comes with better parts and I don’t really need an ambi lower unless I can also lock the bolt back from the right side and not just release it.
Interesting, I personally found that more people are going smaller instead of longer for their main squeeze. 11.5/12.5 generally with 13.7/13.9/14.5 p&w for legal reasons. Though I think if legal sbr issues aren’t a thing, 11.5/12.5s would be so common place. 16 inch guns may have never even been mainstream if it wasn’t the legal limit.
Short and compact, and then have a Mk12 ModH upper as an additional upper.
13.7" and 13.9" p&w have got to be the dumbest barrel length combos ever devised for the AR.
@@slister1911 I somewhat agree. Similar to going 16 from the 14.5, they're just there for legal reasons. Otherwise, we'd only have 10.3, 11.5, 14.5, 18 and 20.
@@gob7116 True, but at least a 14.5” p&w to 16” is to keep it as legally short as possible with a muzzle device. But 13.7” and 13.9” makes no sense as you’re chopping barrel length in exchange for muzzle device length-that’s a completely detrimental trade for absolutely no gain. Instead, you end up with a slight disadvantage.
@@slister1911 IIRC, 13.7/13.9 was made with specific muzzle devices in mind. When p&w, it'll reach 16 too. 14.5 was the original barrel length anyways, then 16 is just the legal standard. While 14.5 p&w would hit 16 with almost any muzzle device, the concept stays the same with 13.7 and 13.9, just with a limited selection of muzzle devices
Two yrs ago "Tactical Hive" Coch did a velocity test with four barrel length's , if I remember correctly 18" , 16" , 11.5" , 10.3" ,. They used Reems of paper, the faster moving 18" and 16" fragmented in 3 Reems , the slower 11.5" didn't frag going through 4 Reems and still struck the target a ft behind, the slowest moving 10.3" didn't frag and didn't go through four Reems . It's amazing how much velocity drop off there was with only 1" difference. From 3150 +/- to 2500+/- fps.
INTERFACE... Not eyenterface. It's not RISE 3. It's RIS 3
Like saying PISS with an R.
LMT definitely is one of the best when it comes to ambi lowers. I run my mk18 on one.
Just got paperwork back on my first SBR (10.5 funny enough). Now just gotta convince the wife there’s enough room in the budget for a suppressor…
good luck soldier 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes you do. Cans are awesome 😊
''rice 3''
MK18 absolutely is still relevant. I would say more so then everyone running around with LPOVs like they are COD "snipers"
Not about being a sniper, but once u get past 100yds, that magnification gives you much more capability and precision... Which you very well might need.
That being said, I think most fights will be 100yds and in, but with 1x ability on LPVO plus an offset red dot you have that covered in spades anyways.... But once u gotta hit an only partially exposed target at 150+ your gonna wish u had magnification... Even if only for PID...
If your in an area like me, where u could easily have 500+yd sightlines, an LPVO makes a helluva lot of sense. As does a 14.5" barrel over a 10.3. just depends where ya live and what ya need man....
@Mr Dark I can get all of that with a basic 3x or my 5x magnfier that is removable when I dont need it. It's lighter, less expensive with a eotech sight. It has none of the downsides of a LPVO. If you have to go to the offset red dot then it tells you the setup doesn't work for what you are trying to have it do, its slower to aquire targets, eye relief is worse and so on. LPVOs are a proven fad with their popularity going up and down based on youtubers reviewing their free test products. They are a decent option for thos who have serious land they need more information in the glass. 99% of people who own them bought them because it was cool, not actually practical
@@zack9912000 show us on the doll.where LPVO hurt u
You're gonna be one the COD dudes who has a 6' vertical while wearing all your gear and movement scumming everything huh.
Either AAC 77gr or G9 54gr monolithic (all cooper) HP is what I would run. It would depend if I need more of a barrier blind round or something to stretch the rifle's legs.
When it came time for me to get mk18 I chose the geisselle 11.5 super duty. It came with Surefire brake with suppressed mount, ambi everything , geisselle charging handle, trigger, m lok handguard , the grip is better. It was just feature packed where the mk18 was stuck in 2010.
I regret a not getting a 11.5 or 12.5! MK18 is a classic though
@@edxlee i agree, aside from 14.5 i’ve got 3 10.3/10.5 rifles and 1 11.5“. I‘m now moving towards longer barrels and might convert them all to the 11.5 - 14.5 range. But I can’t part with my Mk18Ris2, even though it is the one that has the least reason for keeping. It’s a classic. And one of the other 10.5 is a BCM with a LAW folder that I really like, so I can’t sell that one either as it is at least a very light bag gun. Gonna sell the 10.3 URGI though, as I don’t use it, so I‘ll probably still be stuck with 2 10.3 - 10.5“ barrels, keep the 11.5 and get a 12.5 and the rest will be 14.5 and above😄
Run and gunner with a friends mk18 when doing drills. The drill switch with a friend his rifle and run his & vise versa (no changing of zero or set up run what’s on it) forces you to use Kentucky windage immediately and test truly how adaptive you are. Only thing you can change is sling that’s it.
Good stuff
My MK18 still my favorite rifle ever
5:01 I was about to say my issue isn’t that fancy holy shit 😂😂😂
Good video the mk 18 is my go to and edc. I have the RISII upper, radian ADAC lower and a blackout defense NP3 3 pounds flat faced zero reset trigger.
I prefer the quad rail over the MLok. But Daniel defense did a really good job at making that a beefy rail and that’s why I like the quad rail. They basically kept the same dimension without the cheese greater. And did a good job with it.
For training I’ve been using aac 77 otm not the SMk ones, runs great in my mk18
@Jaques Rabit even 16 inch 1/9?
@@techti8792 yes it's good in 1/9 twist barrels
Hopefully you guys can make it out our way for a scoped carbine class.
I love the the DD furniture
you guys do the coolest intros.
The DD furniture is fine. The only reason people hate it is bc it looks off the shelf/commercial af. It’s iconic.
MK18 will always be my cool rifle but I have been leaning on my Knights lately.
Note for the video guy, get a softbox light on them in the studio while talking, it is too dim, other than that great work. Some of the best cinematography on a gun channel yet. See you even rocking the anamorphic.
if you don't want to deal with the gas issue get a PWS or lwrc piston gun
Damn you're in FL too yeah I'm definitely coming to train with you. Wow literally 2 hours away from me.
I love mine. Definitely chunky but it slaps ✋🏻.
Built out my own version of the Mk18 a few years ago using a Superlative Arms piston kit and it is a freaking tank. From freezing snow to blazing Alabama summers, the thing just runs. However, even with a blow off piston system the RC2 will still push a good amount of gas back on you when shooting weak side.
Your Night vision courses are very fairly priced! I need to plan a weekend out there to Florida one of these days
Looks like the MK18's got a new rail, but same ol' issues. I'll stick with the BCM Recce 11.5"
An "ambidextrious RISE III" rail?! Apparently I've been mispronouncing both of those words my entire life. 😂😬😬
Glad to hear LaRue 2 stage get the respect it deserves
amen
I love dd furniture, I have sbr dd lower with hk 416 upper. And all dd furniture. But I guess what ever floats you boat 🤷🏻
It is all personal preference, that’s awesome you run what works best for you despite other peoples opinions! Keep rocking on homie!
@@barrelandhatchet yes thank you, it’s different strokes for different folks, lol.
diggin that pakol cap
I’ve owned a factory sbr’d mk18 for 10ish years. It’s been an absolute hammer. It was my daily rifle until about a year ago when I built a very top of the line 13.7. My opinion is that if I ever have to use it, I’ll probably be close enough to justify it. That said it’s murdered plenty of pigs at 200-300M. I’m definitely interested in a full ambi rifle but not at $1k more than I bought mine for.
Any issues with bolts or other parts breaking?
@@jtasgl88 not a single breakage, probably run close to 5500rds. I did replace extractor spring, takedown de tint springs when I installed geissele SSAE and talon ambi safety. I also run an H3 and almost exclusively suppressed.
Need a video on a LMT 11.5 specwar! W/12.5 barrel
Oh that would be spicey
Such a beautiful piece of art. DD makes the prettiest furniture and 5V5 is the best weapon I've ever fired 🏆🇺🇸
Hoping someone can help me here, i have the Ris iii upper and wanting to swap the muzzle device out and run the huxwrx flash hider and flow can, my question is do i need to shim the flash hider to allow clearance for the can to fit?
Your camera/edit dude is doing his jo!
Good info
I have a DD MK18 with the RIS II rail, it came with a H buffer which caused issues on my gun in classes where I shot more than 300 rounds. I have changed to an H2 buffer but have not run it in a class since. Running a Surefire Mini 2 on it, its gassy but a lot quieter than non suppressed. May look into the flow can for this gun. It is heavy with all the stuff I have on it but I would recommend it. Mostly running m193 ammo and can consistently hit a 300 yard c zone steel with a dot no magnifier.
If running suppressed or FA, use an H2 buffer. Or just use an H2 buffer as is. Also make sure you're using quality ammo and not shit tier SteelCase stuff. Feed it with quality and you'll receive quality results.
The MK18 hasn’t “always” been ambi. My MK18 from ‘15-‘16 era didn’t come with any ambi controls
this brand new rifle is the first ambi they have done. they said they always had an ambi chrging handle and safety but dd didnt make their own charging handle back then, they just used a mil spec
I understand that they were referring to the Ambi charging handle and safety as was I. When I purchased mine the were using non ambi charging handles and regular safeties along with Magpul stocks this was before they started outfitting their rifles with their DD furniture.
What is the optic setup on this mk18? What riser and magnifier and such?
I want this rail, but I paid $700 for the OG DD MK18 Upper and cant convince myself the rail is worth 500 for me, but I do want it..
I think the daniel defense furniture is fine
Not going to lie, y'all have one sexy ass build on this amazing piece of engineering
Suhweet!! I'd been looking around for a solid company that offers Rifle courses in Florida! Very happy to have found you, and you'll be getting myself and gf signed up in the near future! Subscribing...
thanks for the support and look forward to training with you
No mention of needing more gas to ensure operation in extreme cold environments. It’s a factor for military has port considerations.
Or, when caked in powdery moon dust sand.
That’s like asking if Swiss Army knives are still relevant. It’s a short barreled ar15 that’s as reliable as they come. Of course it’s still relevant.
daniel's furniture is actually pretty solid
Yes if its the only one you have. Yes if your enemy is holding a knife. Yes if it's the only SBR you have for tight spaces. And finally its always the funnest one to shoot.
Love the 3 lights wonder y it's so beefy 😅
For durability, do you think it's on par with the ris II or less durable because it is MLOK? Thanks!
Less. But more durable than most other Mlok handrails on the market.

Whether it’s still “relevant” or not, I want one! :)

What is the Front Sling attachment ???
Great discussion. Wonder how many dudes you’re gonna trigger by pronouncing RIS rise? Lol I love it. Anyway, I’ve never really been a fan of the 10.3. I feel 11.5 or 12.5 is superior. Cool vid.
Smaller rifle has its place, but 300blk is much better suited to the shorter lengths.
The mk18 makes sense for our military but for citizens a 300 blk makes more sense

Anyone wanting to stock on some 77 BTHP ammo I'd highly suggest looking into aac or imi brand. Awesome prices and work pretty damn good too. I've had really good luck with them with accuracy and lethality, my go to rig is a 13.7.
I haven't been all that impressed with the AAC 77s. I've found them to be like 2-3MOA even out of 2 different Sub MOA capable rifles (14.5 Geissele Super Duty and an 11.5 Colt HRT) and my Brothers BCM 14.5
My Geissele upper shoots 55gr PMC XTac like 1-1.25 MOA and those AACs like 2-2.5sh MOA. The 11.5 HRT is a little more similar at like 2moa with 193s and M855 and like 2.5 with the AACs.
Both rifles shoot well within Sub MOA with 75gr Speer Gold Dots and 77gr Razorcore.
I have 840rnd of 75gr Speer Gold Dots put aside for my "emergency loadout" gives me a full 7 mag loadout and a full 7 mag contingency loadout for each rifle.
Then like 6-700 rnds of Razorcore for backup.
ATM I'm sitting on like 1.5k wolf and 2.5k 193s and 1k M855 that I use for training and try to keep stocked. I might try the AACs again later mabey newer lots will be a bit better, but for now there's no reason for me to buy it when XTAC 55gr shoot better and are a few bucks a box cheaper
Got like 300rnd left of the AACs imma blow through my next 2 range sessions (I try to do 150-200rnd a session) and then they are out of my life lol.
All that being said, I still consider 2.5 MOA and better to be "combat accurate" but if I'm paying $3/box more than I'm getting 193s for, I expect the ammo to be MOA frankly, otherwise I just pay another $2/box and get something better since I don't shoot them all that much. And the Gold Dots do much better against barriers like auto glass ect than an OTM load anyways which I deem very important in an urban area
@@mrdark9916 Good shit. And I hear what you're sayin, I only mention aac and imi due to prices mostly because of what was said in the video about cost. I dont have nearly as much time with aac brand as imi and even less when it comes to the pmc xtac stuff. That's actually very good for the money I mostly shoot xtac 62s and stock more of it then anything for emergency shit. Only probably have 400 rounds of 77s but as far as plinking and practice rounds mabey like 4 or 5k of steel. I havent heard many guys I know personally, test any of the aac or imi 77s, and they all run the bcm, giessle, sons of liberty and one guy has a knights. They have the guns but dont get out as much as I do to test equipment and loads to see performance. I run a sons of liberty 13.7 set up for day and night use, suppressed and it's been my go to for a few years now. I've had very good luck with the imi 77s on coyotes and beavers but havent tested the aac 77s when out and something off topic but have had good luck with Winchester silvertip 64 grain ammo on deer, during season. I like flat range shooting on steel and paper, seein what rounds are capable of for practical accuracy and some distance but I'm no precision shooter. But I also like gettin out in kit and doin some property patrols and and other things too just to get more time with my rig and get more use to carryin my long gun in various conditions, rain, snow, hot or shine in the rural backwoods where I live. Plus hunting with it also gives me very good data on what my particular rig is doin with different ammo selections. Doesnt get more informative then puttin meat in the freezer and seein what ballistic performance a round does, plus blood trails if there is one. Only say if there is one, for times they dont drop on the spot. Sorry for ramblin so much brotha, thanks for your info very interesting to hear for sure and sounds you've definitely put in some time data collecting, good shit. Keep doin your thing and god bless from ole Carolina.
Do a urgi vs this block 3
