I'm currently modding my Wii U so that I can play Wii games, and I just want to say that your videos are very helpful and straight to the point! Thanks a lot!
Heads up for anyone doing this, don't do it with a flash drive, they fail really quickly on the wiiu, mine failed two days after I did this. If your screen gets stuck on reinitializing devices, your thumb drive probably got killed
I set this up and thought I did a good job of following the instructions but the games just don’t show up once I boot usb loader. I filtered it to only look at wii games and it’s completely empty.
I've followed all the steps and even tried using a regular thumb drive instead of HDD (with y-splitter) - all in FAT32 format. Every time USB Loader GX won't "initialize," or whatever it's called, my drive. I've tried so many different USB drives following the steps with Wii backup manager. Keep in mind ALL the drives worked fine for loading Wii U games to off the SD card within Wii U. It makes no sense that the drives work (when formatted in Wii U) for Wii U games, but not in FAT32 for vWii, does it? Is it really still a case of "I haven't found a compatible drive for vWii use"?
Have you tried both ports? Also I had issues with having both my USB sticks plugged in(one for Wii u games formatted to the Wii U system, and one fat32 for Wii games) so that might be confusing usb loader too
@@funkyscott47 I have nothing else plugged in via USB. Now I found out one of the USB slots in back (closer to center) gets a different result; it gets stuck on the "Renitializing devices" part of the loading screen. Get the feeling I could leave it for hours and nothing would happen, I'm guessing? And does that mean that USB slot is "the one" and if so any clue what I need to do?
@@funkyscott47 hey spread the word! You'll never guess how it's "working"!!! So...with the y-connector plugged into back center slot (and outer slot for power), I have to DISCONNECT the drive when going to USB Loader GX. Once in, I have to click the plus symbol to load a game (I think I just press back afterwards or whatever). It ejects a random Wii U game disc that came with console. I then put the disk back in and it says "couldn't load" (or whatever). THEN and only then I can click on "select loader mode" at top and select Wii games and it works and they show up! WTF?!?! I can go to vWii menu from there if I want, back into HB and USBLGX and it still works. BUT if I go back to Wii U menu, it won't work and I have to repeat steps. Insane, right? But it remembers my save data and everything. Wonder if I can try like the WD HDD manager and it could let me adjust spin-up time or something so I can avoid that finagling (not that I'm really complaining at this point and gimmicks can be endearing)
wow that is wild that you have to do that lol If you want an easier way, which you could install games onto a wii u formatted usb drive, look into using NUSPLI. It allows you to download wii, wii u, and virtual console games all to your wii u menu. That could save you the hassle of trying to figure it out if you want :P
Hi ,i just got everything working but when i load usb loader, it shows no games and the usb drive isnt detected. Im using a 256 gb san disk flash drive and its all formatted properly to fat 32 and it just wont show up.
So I have had a Wii U for many years and always had the 2TB usb drive inserted in the back of the console that I’ve been playing all my Wii U games off of for years. My system is modded and I’ve been playing GameCube games on it with Nintendont for a while and usb loader is on there as well So if I put a usb hard drive in the console with my Wii games, because I also have my old Wii U hard drive inserted as well, my games won’t show when I load up usb loader? Are you saying I’ll always have to unplug my Wii U games hard drive to do this?
do you unplug the Wii U hard drive and put in the one for the Wii? or do you plug the drive in the front usb slots, if so then how do you play gamecube games when it needs the front two usb slots (for the gamecube controller adapter)
On your 2023 Tiramisu tutorial, I noticed you also said to put your wpfs folder inside your SD card. My question is will it need to be both on the sd card and the HDD to play Wii games on the Wii U or only inside the HDD is necessary?
Great tutorial. Is it possible to run the Wii games from the Wii U screen, as if they were vWii titles? I’m running Tiramisu, and I haven’t found a solid tutorial that explains how to install dumped physical Wii games on the Wii U and run them from the Wii U Home screen.
Great videos and been using them to mod my Wii U that I recently purchased. FYI for folks you can buy a cheap sata3 SSD and use a USB to Sata adapter and install games to that instead of a flash drive which wear out quicker. Any plans to make a video on Pretendo? Thanks
@@funkyscott47 FYI You'll need to purchase a USB y cable to get enough power even for a 2.5in SSD which sucks but they are like $8. It's inconsistent and says not enough power without it.

So I’m having an issue with my USBLoaderGx on my virtual Wii in my WiiU. I mainly use it with disc based games in order to take advantage of the graphical features. However, when I go to exit a game or try to turn the system off, it just gets stuck on a black screen. The only way to fix this is to unplug the console and plug it back in, which I’m worried could eventually result in a brick. This happens even if I have it set in settings to return to the Homebrew Channel upon exiting a game. That may work once or twice, but then the next time I try it’s back to the black screen. The app is up to date, but I do run it through the Homebrew channel as opposed to having it forwarded on the Home Screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this or if there’s a way to fix? I enjoy the boost in graphics and features, but it’s not worth bricking my system over.
Hi there, as usual your tutorials are always helpful. So I have a question, I was wondering if wiiware roms would also work with USB GX Loader? Say for example if I downloaded Pokémon Rumble that wasn't a wbfs file? And if not, could I convert it to a wbfs file?
I have tried all my USB ports, front and back, my USB is compatible, but when I try to show Wii games it says the following: "Error: USB Device not initialized. Switching to channel list mode.
i have an external hard drive plugged into the back for my wiiu games & want to add wii games with a usb drive, do i have to unplug my hdd whenever i want to play wii games?
I’ve followed pretty much all your homebrew tutorials, both modding consoles and installing games and you’ve always succeeded in making me fail! congratulations, you should win a medal for making the worst tutorials ever
Hi thank you for your tutorial (and the cool channel), but i have a issue with vWii , it seems bricked, each time i try to start it, the wii u stop working, let me explain, every time I open Wii Mode it shows the Health and Safety Information (the logo wii), sometimes I am able to press A. After a few seconds I hear the DVD drive, the power LED flashes once and the system turns off (Red Power LED). I'm on Tiramisu, i tried decafeinator (all kind of installation and update, lite/aggressive etc) i'm not able to run vWii on my wiiu , if you have any solution. Thanks.
Hi! I have an issue atm where I get a black screen once I exit a game that I was playing. Have not played any game from a USB drive. Only from disc. Mainly using USB loader for the filter settings. But I've had 2 times now where the screen goes black when I try to exit to the Wii menue after playing for a while. Any idea what causes this? Can't power cycle my Wii U either by pressing the power button. Only pulling the power cord works to shut it down after a hard crash like this.
Hi, I just found my Wii U and I am planning on hacking. Quick questions: 1) With the video tutorial on how to install the homebrew channel on both Wii U and VWii, I don't have to relaunch d2x-CIOS Installer to just open USB Loader GX? 2) Is it possible to us Wii Flow instead of USB GX? If so do I have to install more stuff? 3) Am I able to run GameCube games off USB? Hope to get a response, cheers!
1) you only need to run cios installer once as long as all the installs are successful. 2) yup, here is a video for wiiflow :) ruclips.net/video/yIbQlGmYfWQ/видео.html&ab_channel=FunkyScott47 3) yes you can, as long as the usb is formatted as fat32. click no when the wii u prompts you to format it after inserting it into your wii u, as that will erase everything on there Hope this all helps and god luck with your modding journey :D
@@funkyscott47 Hello! me again. I successfully homebrewed my WII U, all thanks to you! :D But now I have a second question, see I want to see all of my games on Wii Flow, like from the GBA emulator but I heard that I need to install plugins but I cannot find a video talking about it, could you help me once again? P.S Happy New Year!
I couldn't find a NTSC-U game id for Ikenie No Yoru (Japan) Wii game. I used the NTSC-J game id and it installed just fine but the icon in Wii U shows "???" saying there's an error in the software data. Is there a workaround to make this work?
Nice video and funny at the end! I have a few questions though. Do i have to have wii games and wii u games on a different drive or can they be on the same one. Also for the external hard drive part, is all i need a y splitter cable or does the external hard drive have to have external power?
you need a separate usb drive for wii games for usb loader gx. but if you use nusspli/usb helper you can inject them onto the same usb as you wii u games! it depends on the hdd, but you most likely need a y splitter cable to power the hdd. Hope this helps :)
Is there any wii u app that allows us to inject USB loader games onto the wii u menu? And can USB loader also play GameCube games, or should we just use Nintendont for that?
Are you able to install the games with USB Loader GX with physical copies that you already own? Or do you have to do the game ID method you did in the video?
I've done everything step by step and it worked, the games shows up when lauching the usbloader on the menu but when i try to start it, it'll kick me out back to homebrew launcher. Any solution for this?
@@DanielDLG yes! I just configured the D2X CIOs with his tutorial and games just appeared! Make sure to also put the USB to port 0 (the port with the usb symbol on the side). After that, all games popped up and run perfectly. I've had no problems since then.
Do I have to format my usb drive to fat32 or can it be EXfat? Cause for fat 32 the .wbfs files that become too big are split and I don't know how to name them when their split...
I have all the games on the USB, but when I open up the homebrew channel the games don't show up at all! I have tried both switching the usb port and setting wii games on, but still nothing. Help???
Hey there Buddy! I know you said you talked about a HDD needing extra power, but I don't think my one has to do that! It is a USB Detachable 1 Terabyte Seagate. When I put it into my Wii U it makes a BEEP sound, and I was terrifyied if it stopped working or not, do I need to reformat it in order for it to work for the Wii U Vwii? also the Format menu thing didn't appear. Also THIS THING WORKS IN MY WII, I can play games off it. Why can't I do it with the Wii U Vwii USB Loader GX? I need to go to the other program I use which is called WiiFlow, unless you help me with this I am not exactly sure what I can do. I don't want to be stuck using AV cable quality I want to get to 720p or 1080p or whatever the Wii U uses. Am I forced to use a Flash Drive? what is a Y Splitter? Anyways thanks.
oh thats great! saves you some money that way! and to play it on the vwii it needs to be formatted as fat32, as if you format it to the wii u the vwii cant read it. as for working with wiiflow and not usb loader rgx, it may be a compatibility issues there unfortunately
@@funkyscott47 the detachable seagate was already in Fat32 and the Wii U couldn’t even want to read it and was beeping all the time even when in the Vwii menu. So yeah probably not the compatible type which is BS it works in my Original Wii and Wiiflow in it works fine!
Everything worked but I have a question regarding game saves. I launched about a dozen games and they all work perfectly fine. After I laucnhed another one the game gave an error that there wasn't enough wii memory to make a save file. I checked the wii settings then game saves and it was full. So is there a way to change my game saves to my usb or sd card so I can play more games with saving? Thanks.
Hey there, thank you so much for the guide! But I'd like to clarify just one thing: I tried launching Super Mario Galaxy, but right after launching I get a black screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I've homebrewed my WiiU and am almost ready to start moving the games over. My plan was to put my Wii and WiiU games on the same flash drive. Is this okay, or do I need a separate flash drive for earch platform?
so i already have a usb that i use to yknow store my wii u games would i have to take that one out to use the one with the wii games for the vWii, cuz ive had two usbs in at the same time and it says it can only use 1 at the time
Yea i don’t know why I think I formatted everything right, gave all the files the right names but it still not showing up. It recognizes the USB and I have it in the right spot but nothing pops up
I have a problem. USB Loader GX reads my USB drive, but even if I click on the tick that is supposed to show Wii games, nothing comes up. Its also saying that I have no games on my USB drive despite setting up a wbfs folder just like you did. So, I tried WiiFlow. When I load into that, it just shows the logo before kicking me back to the Homebrew Channel menu. What's happening and how do I fix this?
Is there any benefit to playing your Wii games from vWii vs installing the as injects via Wii U usb helper so that you can have them right in your Wii U menu without having to launch vWii?
the only benefit would be to be able to customize settings in usb loader gx for it or to have as many games as you sd/usb can fit, but for convenience if you just want to play, injects are the way to go
As always, thanks for making these videos so easy to follow and simple to use really appreciated. If I already mod my Wii u and have a USB drive in use for the WiiU games would I need a separate one with Wii games and just swap between the two depending on what I want to play? Also- can you play GameCube games from that USB or is it only Wii?
Hi, i don't know if the game i chose doesn't work i tried it with mk wii and followed the tutorial like 3 times and it just takes me back to the wii homebrew launcher and i tried it with wii sports aswell and same problem how do i fix this?
I’m struggling, I don’t know if there is something wrong with my sd card or usb. I followed the steps in the first video of this playlist and it worked well, I now have the home brew on my Wii U with the usb loader GX. But I can’t get the games in! I’m pretty sure that I followed the steps, the file types of the games are the wbfs types, I put the id. Then I notice that my usb is NTFS type, I remember it being fat32 before and it was optional, but then I changed it and prioritized and I don’t know. I already have the home brew so is it because of my usb???
If youdlve double checked all the steps, and the game ID's, try plugging into a different USB slot first, but then if that doesn't work, your usb might just not be compatible :(
@@funkyscott47 Hey, My game is finally acknowledged thank to the usb loader update by just using sd card! The problem is that the game kicks me out back to the home brew menu. Does it have anything to do with my iOS installer because ever since I putted beta 52 instead of beta 53 it keeps requesting cIOS slot and now I press A and it takes me to a Slots map, and I press a again and it says it failed. then I don’t know what to do. (I’m using a Wii U by the way) This is the video that helped me, it recognized my game but it doesn’t let me play ruclips.net/video/fIBDMV1UPA0/видео.html

do i need a different usb drive for wii games than the one i use for the modded wii u????so then i need 2 dedicated usb drives, one for wii and one for wii u games

SWITCHING TO CHANNEL LIST MODE” And I changed the filter to “Wii games” and nothing. When I put it in a different slot it’s doesn’t say it but the game isn’t still there. Can you help?
Hi, im wondering if i can put my wbfs folder while theres actual wii u games already on my usb drive, so my question us can i store wii and wii u games on a same drive ?
Got a question if anyone has an answer. So I’m trying to use usbloadergx on my Wii U everything seems to be set up right but it can’t find my hard drive with my games even though it is plugged in and on. What can I do to make it read it correctly? *i formatted using a Mac if that could that be the reason *i have them on the root of the hard drive in a folder called wbfs *it is a 3.0 hdd drive
What format is it? Fat32 is the best. Also try plugging it into a different USB slot and go into ulgx settings under "hard drive settings" to make sure usb mode is on
Can I use the same usb i have my wii u games on for wii games or gamecube games??? Is there a tutorial for installing the “only cfw” games also? Thanks for all the tutorials man, appreciate it
there is a way to do that through injecting, however I have never done it before so I'm not sure how it works yet :( I have my wii games on a separate USB drive that I switch out with the one with wii u games on. A little more work but still works

I couldn't find a NTSC-U game id for Ikenie No Yoru (Japan) Wii game. I used the NTSC-J game id and it installed just fine but the icon in Wii U shows "???" saying there's an error in the software data. Is there a workaround to make this work?
Can I use my Wii HDD thats already full of games with USB Loader GX on WiiU? Or do i have to start with a fresh HDD?
Nice video and funny at the end! I have a few questions though. Do i have to have wii games and wii u games on a different drive or can they be on the same one. Also for the external hard drive part, is all i need a y splitter cable or does the external hard drive have to have external power?
you need a separate usb drive for wii games for usb loader gx. but if you use nusspli/usb helper you can inject them onto the same usb as you wii u games! it depends on the hdd, but you most likely need a y splitter cable to power the hdd. Hope this helps :)
Legend mate tysm. When I get a wii u let me know if u wanna run some games
@@funkyscott47 is there any tutorial on how to inject the games on the same usb?
I transfered my animal crossing city folk save data to my wii U. But i cant play online. What can i do? :(
Is there any wii u app that allows us to inject USB loader games onto the wii u menu? And can USB loader also play GameCube games, or should we just use Nintendont for that?
Are you able to install the games with USB Loader GX with physical copies that you already own? Or do you have to do the game ID method you did in the video?
Yes you can with the plus button on the bottom left of the loader
I've done everything step by step and it worked, the games shows up when lauching the usbloader on the menu but when i try to start it, it'll kick me out back to homebrew launcher. Any solution for this?
Did you find a solution?
@@DanielDLG yes! I just configured the D2X CIOs with his tutorial and games just appeared! Make sure to also put the USB to port 0 (the port with the usb symbol on the side). After that, all games popped up and run perfectly. I've had no problems since then.
Here again with another question... Why doesn't my homebrew channel load up with USB loader/d2x/IOS installer
Funky! Please help! On D2X I don’t see vwii beta anywhere and I followed your video exactly! Any ideas how to fix this?
Do i have to format my external 1 Tb Hardrive to fat 32 or can I keep it to exfat? thanks love the stuff
nevermind, got it changed to fat 32
Question When video 0:59 show the USB Loader GX when i downloaded it missing 480 fix dol and txt
Can you have Wii u games and Wii games on the same usb stick?
whenever I boot a game, it keeps crashing and I have to unplug my Wii U and plug it back in again. Is there any way to fix this?
Everything worked but I have a question regarding game saves. I launched about a dozen games and they all work perfectly fine. After I laucnhed another one the game gave an error that there wasn't enough wii memory to make a save file. I checked the wii settings then game saves and it was full. So is there a way to change my game saves to my usb or sd card so I can play more games with saving? Thanks.
Hey there, thank you so much for the guide! But I'd like to clarify just one thing: I tried launching Super Mario Galaxy, but right after launching I get a black screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Double check that your game ID is correct for the right region
@@funkyscott47 yes, it was the region problem, thank you so much!!!
Got the same issue!
Do I need a disc drive, or can I just use my Sd card to get my games over to wii?
What port does the loader use on the vWii?
I've homebrewed my WiiU and am almost ready to start moving the games over. My plan was to put my
Wii and WiiU games on the same flash drive. Is this okay, or do I need a separate flash drive for earch platform?
same but on an external hard drive.. is that fine?
In case this helps anyone. I did not use 2 separate storage devices for Wii and WiiU games. They're all on the same storage device and working great.
Hey i was wondering how did you do this? I have my usb hdd with wiiu games but i dont know how to put the wbfs files on the usb??
I have 500gb hdd set up for wii , can i mod wii u and plug n play ?
Idk why it fails to load up the usb and switches back to sd card mode :(
so i already have a usb that i use to yknow store my wii u games would i have to take that one out to use the one with the wii games for the vWii, cuz ive had two usbs in at the same time and it says it can only use 1 at the time
In setting if you go to storage ore wat its cald you need to pres -,+,dpad down for the power menu
Yea i don’t know why I think I formatted everything right, gave all the files the right names but it still not showing up. It recognizes the USB and I have it in the right spot but nothing pops up
*Make sure you put the usb into the top usb port on the back of your Wii U or else it will not work!*
Do you know how to fix the error: usb device not initialized. Switching to channel list mode?
It doesnt work for me, it says "USB failed to initialize, returning to list mode" or sum like that. Help
Never mind! I fixed it! I had misnamed the folder. Instead of "wbfs", I had "vbfs" lol
so if i have a flash drive with wii u games, i have to use a new flash drive for these wii games?
Is there any benefit to playing your Wii games from vWii vs installing the as injects via Wii U usb helper so that you can have them right in your Wii U menu without having to launch vWii?
the only benefit would be to be able to customize settings in usb loader gx for it or to have as many games as you sd/usb can fit, but for convenience if you just want to play, injects are the way to go
How do you get game covers on Wii u usb loader gx because the my vWii won’t connect to the internet
use wii backup manager
Error usb device not initialized switching to channel list mode. What should I do?
I figured it out just plug the usb into the back of the Wii U
As always, thanks for making these videos so easy to follow and simple to use really appreciated.
If I already mod my Wii u and have a USB drive in use for the WiiU games would I need a separate one with Wii games and just swap between the two depending on what I want to play? Also- can you play GameCube games from that USB or is it only Wii?
Hi, i don't know if the game i chose doesn't work i tried it with mk wii and followed the tutorial like 3 times and it just takes me back to the wii homebrew launcher and i tried it with wii sports aswell and same problem how do i fix this?
Your videos are AWSOME! But the video on how to download wii games is blocked by youtube terms and sevices, how do I download WII games?
thank you :) and yeah it sucks:( i can't tell you on here but google is your friend :)
SO do you need a sepearte drive for wii games and wii u games or can they all be on one USB?
i tried doing both on a usb but if i put the usb in my pc it says i need to format it. so i think you can't...
(I’m using a Wii U by the way)
This is the video that helped me, it recognized my game but it doesn’t let me play

could i not use a usb, and use th SD itslef?, will the usbloadergx allow me to scan for games in the SD?
Can I not use the same WD 1TB external HDD with a Y splitter to store both Wii U, and Wii games?

How would I get say house of the dead games & make them channels on my WiiU?
Usb helper doesn't have it. What format would the games need to be?
You can check if they are on nusspli, and if not, I believe you can use a game injector to create a file to download with wup installer gx2
Oh well i used 2 different flash drives and neither worked. Both would make usb loader gx freeze on “reinitializing devices” or usb loader gx would say “usb device not initialized” or “not enough storage” when there was
so you can't have wii u games and wii games usbs plugged in at the same time?
i can't use my usb drive on my pc because it's formatted to be used on the wii u, do i need a second one?
Yes
Followed your guide and the games don’t appear, I used a sandisk cruzer blade 32gb
i can’t download USB Loader GX, it says it can’t be downloaded securely.
does the region matter if i legally get my copy of a game
Great guide, but I have a question. Files over 4gb dont seem to work with Fat32. Is there a way I can get around this to play Metroid Prime Trilogy that's 8gb?
Yup, you can split the file as in this video ruclips.net/video/9-aXSgsL7xA/видео.html
Whenever I click don’t format usb the Wii u instantly crashes
Why is my file in Microsoft Word? I need help to put it back into a file like his.
How do I get Wii Virtual Console games running on a Wii U? I want to play Monster World IV
When I load up a game it goes back to the homebrew channel, what should I do
Everytime I launch the game It just routes me back to homebrew? Please help
How Do I Get Tthe Apps Folder In The SD Card? I Can't Find It
do i need a different usb drive for wii games than the one i use for the modded wii u????so then i need 2 dedicated usb drives, one for wii and one for wii u games
yes, but id suggest getting a larger sd card to place all your vwii games on it instead of a second usb drive
If I’m switching from sd to usb do I also move the wad folder ?
Okay so I have a problem. I do the steps all correctly but when put it in the slot it says “ERROR USB DEVICE IS INITIALIZED. SWITCHING TO CHANNEL LIST MODE”
And I changed the filter to “Wii games” and nothing. When I put it in a different slot it’s doesn’t say it but the game isn’t still there. Can you help?
Try this solution ruclips.net/video/K5npiCtH9rQ/видео.html
@@funkyscott47 sweet, I’ll try this out when I get home. I’ll update you if it works or not
@@funkyscott47 well i just got home and i dont have 2 usb drives. i only have 1. so i have to wait untill i buy another one.
@@funkyscott47 nvm I got it to work lol. I just did a massive reset on my usb driver
awesome, I'm glad it worked!
and then i used the sd card instead and installed my games but it would just go back to the homebrew menu after pressing start on a game
Hi, im wondering if i can put my wbfs folder while theres actual wii u games already on my usb drive, so my question us can i store wii and wii u games on a same drive ?
Same question here, did you found a solution?
Only if you inject them, can't run from USB loader from same drive
Got a question if anyone has an answer. So I’m trying to use usbloadergx on my Wii U everything seems to be set up right but it can’t find my hard drive with my games even though it is plugged in and on. What can I do to make it read it correctly?
*i formatted using a Mac if that could that be the reason
*i have them on the root of the hard drive in a folder called wbfs
*it is a 3.0 hdd drive
What format is it? Fat32 is the best. Also try plugging it into a different USB slot and go into ulgx settings under "hard drive settings" to make sure usb mode is on
Does this still work in 2024? I recently hacked my Wii u
Can I use gamecube games with the usbloader gx?
@@1Torrres I believe you can, but I have not done that, I just use Nintendont for Gamecube games
@@funkyscott47 well there's an idea for the next video? :) i'd love to just have one drive for everything. tnx for making those videos, very helpful.
