Love love love. Best band ever - The Band. Listen to their music all the time. Few times a year I visit Richards gravesite in Stratford Ontario where I live
My Dad was the drummer for a known band (Ritchie Knight & the Mid-Nights - "Charlena") in the early 60's, Yonge St. Toronto Canada. He knew them all back in the day. Even played with Rick Bell (their last piano player) for a time. Growing up, my dad never told me to listen to The Band or any other type of music for that matter. I had to figure it all out for myself. I was 18 when I discovered The Band. I'm now 53 and still listen all the time. I saw Levon with a RINGO all-star tour and Danko solo at a small club in Toronto. But, sadly never got to see them all together. My point is: The cream always rises to the top, and they were the top for Canadian Rock. Not Neil, Not Guess Who, Not April Wine, Not Rush. THE BAND!
Love them all, love their music. Robbie wrote some great lyrics, played great guitar, so handsome and full of charisma, however, I love to watch Rick bouncing all over the stage. He too was very handsome in his youth, and such an endearing personality.

Robbie looked like he had so much fun playing rock n roll, much like Eddie, that it’s hard to reconcile with the idea that when he was relatively young he decided it was mostly boring.
Never heard that about Robbie, I read his book and also Barney Hoskyns biography of The Band. He was hooked on rock and roll as a teenager and even before.
@@hannejeppesen1809 I read his book as well as biographies too and he was definitely not as excited about live playing in his 30s on as he was in his 20s.
@@SmelOdies I guess I misunderstood your comment, I thought you meant he thought the music (rock and roll). Yes, you are right, he was done with touring, and he was weary of kind of being the caretaker of 3 (Richard, Rick and Levon) heroin addict. Also by 1974 he had 3 small children and wanted to spend more time with them. I don't think he found the music boring, but at the same time he seemed like the kind of person that was always looking for something new and different.
@@SmelOdies What footage are you referring to? The Last Waltz? I don't want to speculate. I know Robbie was always all about the music, but I think he was always looking for new ways to express himself. However, he continued to play guitar and also collect them.
In your opinion,,,I’d much rather see the Band than any outfit Clapton has been apart of . Like I said “looking through rose tinted spectacles “ Do you play guitar?
Bozack Tbc It’s not an opinion. Ask any guitarist. Yes, I am one. I’d rather see The Band than most of Clapton’s outfits, but check out Delaney and Bonnie with Clapton: ruclips.net/video/DnBijF6hawc/видео.html One of the guitars was a little out of tune right then, but for me, that band vs The Band is a coin flip. Not because of Clapton, though. Here’s the thing: There’s a lot more to a great band than the lead guitarist. And different things are not the same. I’m not denigrating Clapton’s guitar playing when I say Clapton never wrote anything as good as “The Weight”. It’s just a fact that he didn’t. Clapton couldn’t sing like Levon Helm, either. Still a great guitar player.
This is obviously taken off a VHS dub of the original footage, which looks like it could have been 35mm film. If so, where is it and who has it? This must be made available. We need to lobby the US Library of Congress or somebody! This is a crime that we can't watch and listen to this amazing music in pristine quality. God bless The Band.
Great to find this, shame the tape slows down now and again and production quality not too great either, but better to have it than not. Always nice to listen to a concert you were actually at. I'm now wondering if there was a recording of them at the Royal Albert Hall now. Many thanks p f.
Not me buddy, no way would I even attempt to go to any concert with a crowd like that 😮 I saw them in '74 with Bob Dylan in the United States. I was third row on the floor of an indoor venue and they were 1,000 times better than this. 🤟✌️❤️🌼
I always find it a shame The Band never had a golden period of songwriting like Dylan,The Stones and The Beatles and other good bands where they have four great albums in a row to seals there legacy. Basically the band never had enough great albums or do enough great songs to be considered a great legendary band so they will always be the influential nearly men who blew it . Still a cool band though with some decent songs and one classic song ‘the weight’ .

@@hannejeppesen1809 I don’t think he found the act of guitar playing itself as fun as he appeared to in the footage that we all know.
@@SmelOdies What footage are you referring to? The Last Waltz? I don't want to speculate. I know Robbie was always all about the music, but I think he was always looking for new ways to express himself. However, he continued to play guitar and also collect them.
Thanks soooo much!!
I was there they said there was 12000 people in it was a very hot day ---music @ weather
What a fucking band bang straight in no mucking about great musicians
What a crowd!!!!!
That Red Stratocaster would become the Bronze Stratocaster that Robbo used for the Last Waltz...True.✌🏼
Did he out play Clapton @ The Waltz ?
Susan Chait Looking through my Band tinted spectacles....Y E S
Susan Chait Not even close. He was a better songwriter than Clapton, though.
In your opinion,,,I’d much rather see the Band than any outfit Clapton has been apart of .
Like I said “looking through rose tinted spectacles “
Do you play guitar?
Bozack Tbc It’s not an opinion. Ask any guitarist. Yes, I am one. I’d rather see The Band than most of Clapton’s outfits, but check out Delaney and Bonnie with Clapton:

One of the guitars was a little out of tune right then, but for me, that band vs The Band is a coin flip.
@ps I don't know where you got these videos (parts 1,2 & 3) but I'm very pleased that you chose to share them. Many thanks.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed the videos.
@@paschkefan .m.r of, thanks again for videos, never seen this before and just think they were playing the Last Waltz a short time later.
@@paschkefan What was the source of this footage? Any chance it could be restored?
Damn they were good
Great, I too was there. Would love it even more if CSN&Y on same day was on vid .. ?
I woz there! Oh yes I woz 😊😍🎶
Rick ❤
This is obviously taken off a VHS dub of the original footage, which looks like it could have been 35mm film. If so, where is it and who has it? This must be made available. We need to lobby the US Library of Congress or somebody! This is a crime that we can't watch and listen to this amazing music in pristine quality. God bless The Band.
Rick Danko was so damn cool
the best. Great guy, too. We spent a week together one night after one his solo shows.
He had a unique way of flailing around his left arm while playing the bass for sure.
Jack The Skunk The Danko Shuffle
... same day the Grateful Dead played Munich, Olympia-Halle, GER and I watched them.
GLORIUS...
and fogerty to warm up on the PA. what a day mustve been
It was...I was there. For years wondered if there was any recording.
And here it is, jumps an all !!
Holy hell that was the great live Version of The Weight ive ever heard them do
Mr. Friendly It was good, but I preferred their Woodstock performance of it though
❤
levon the coolest dude in the plane. says a lot considering he’s in a band with robbie richard rick and garth lol
We all have our favorites, they all were talented. As far as I'm concerned Robbie was the cool one. Rick loveable and great soulful voice.
I found Rick's vocal on "Stage Fright" to be quite entertaining. A bit of Dylan's influence perhaps?
@rogerod52 Can you cite a source for that info? I've never heard it before.
Great to find this, shame the tape slows down now and again and production quality not too great either, but better to have it than not. Always nice to listen to a concert you were actually at. I'm now wondering if there was a recording of them at the Royal Albert Hall now. Many thanks p f.
Thank You so much!! How did you get this?? Absolutely great
Oooooh yeeeeeaaaah!!!!
Not me buddy, no way would I even attempt to go to any concert with a crowd like that 😮 I saw them in '74 with Bob Dylan in the United States. I was third row on the floor of an indoor venue and they were 1,000 times better than this. 🤟✌️❤️🌼
4:08 Feedback... oh that is Garth blowin' the saxophone. lol
Absolute f****** class
Is time traveling possible cause I've never seen the band and I so want to see them?
The Band play in Wembley ... but the people is two miles away from stage
Din look like they cared too much!!😄
Concert starts at 4:18
45 years ago....I was young and stupid virsus old and stupid..
Before the pain took over. The Band was the shit. Watch this and appreciate them
Danko
👍👍
I always find it a shame The Band never had a golden period of songwriting like Dylan,The Stones and The Beatles and other good bands where they have four great albums in a row to seals there legacy. Basically the band never had enough great albums or do enough great songs to be considered a great legendary band so they will always be the influential nearly men who blew it . Still a cool band though with some decent songs and one classic song ‘the weight’ .
A shame? The Band’s first two albums are perfect. Stage Fright album is also a classic They had more than just a few decent songs and “The Weight.”
bell bottoms !!!!!!!! i looked that cool as well ??? but my fringed buckskin vest capped of that costume
