I noticed that somewhere around 22:20 I think, there was audio from the second game. Neat and clever reference. Plus, Retribution is a great recreation of the series I enjoy. Good job with this.

Amazing fan film
A few mistakes here and there in the story as i see wasnt exactly like the games things are missing but very good , im a big fan of max payne. The max payne actor is brilliant here i liked mona too and the lupino was fine as well

Max Payne Retribution sorry to bug you but, I would like to know if this fan film movie is like a continuation on the original "max Payne" movie which aired I think around October 10th of 2008 ?

jason stricklin it isn't continuation because Lupino died in 2008 max Payne this is whole new concept. This one has stayed true to the franchise with better acting except the bar woman.

Thank you for the support. With the story we wanted to do something with the life and characters that haven't been seen yet. So for example, what does MAX do when he isn't out there killing bad guys? What is he thinking, how does he live etc? For us as fans we wanted to read between the lines of the games somewhat, while also keeping the true essence of the game alive. There is so much depth to all the characters that are not shown in the game, and are only skimmed in our film. This definitely makes more sense than what 'Max Payne' from late-2008 did.
Funny how you mention that horrible movie because someone was going to sleep during the movie two rows In front that I can actually hear snoring.
What the Mark Wahlberg movie did not do, this fan-made film pulls off. Speaking of the film in question, I can remember being in the theater and someone in the row before me was sleeping his ass off during the showing.
I have to be the only one here who didn't like it. So many things that could have easily been fixed regardless of the budget. For one, tell the actors to speak up for fucks sake, the dialogue is almost impossible to hear in the crucial moments.
Secondly the plot is so far away from the games I honestly don't know how we could call it better than the movie which had the same problem. Again if you're setting up for a television series, there was no excuse for this, you could have followed the plot of the game more, even elaborated on it to the point where it built up to be the same length and had a similar cliff hanger cut off.
Jack captures Mona? What the hell, when did that happen? The unnecssary creepy thug sequence that had nothing to do with the plot of the game? Why? Mona gives Max the intel on what happened to his family rather than him finding it on the computer? Again why? Why do we feel the writing of Sam Lake isn't strong enough?
And while I am against racial changes in general, the fact that Jack Lupino is Italian is literally part of the story. He was a made man of the italian mafia in New York. Now he's a black british guy? WTF lmao
How do you expect me to want to support this into becoming a TV series when it's no better than the movie with Mark Wahlberg about following the plot?

WOW WHAT A FILM SO HERES MY LONG REVIEW OF THE WHOLE FAN FILM.
Criticisms: Let's start from beginning...
The bar woman was the worst actress in the whole film. Don't get me wrong it's as if she is playing for a theatre show...
Some of the sound effects were not on point to me...
What happened to Curtis Draven after he left Mona? Doesn't make sense...
Nicole Horne was mentioned but not seen?.. Yes Lupino is a drug lord but he got orders from Horne shouldn't she be a crucial part of the movie?..
No vinnie gognitti?... He is partly what made us love Max Payne, vinnie gognitti is also the one who leads Max to Lupino. I reckon you should have squeezed gognitti at least, a guy with a squeaky voice who would of added a mixture of comedy into the film..
The film was not story driven enough... Max Payne 1 +2+3 were story driven... This film was just about 3 characters Max Payne haunted by his wife, Mona helper of Max, Lupino the bad guy that's it. In Max Payne 1 we had the love and betrayal of Mona and Max, the backstabbing guy BB who shoots Max's friend, vinnie gognitti being the helper of Lupino in the underground Market, Angelo Punchinello, Vladimir Lem also a friend and betrayer and Boris Dime who sort out the gun trades. This film just lacked in characters. I like how there is some elements of nightmares in the film truly represents the game... Anyway my point is There was a lot of story in the first game with lots of characters, but I respect this film as it is a short budget and just a short fan film..
I reckon this would be better as a series, honestly if this was a series it would engage me to watch it, also it looked unfinished ? Also the story of Max Payne should be more than 2 hours.
Apparently to make this film took 3 years? I mean it was good but cmon it can't be 3 years? Did the team lack people that's why ? I don't know but this can't be 3 years should be below 1.

Also I see your trying to make a film noir like Max Payne, the start of this film should have been more different, the film's start should be what happens at the end whether it is Max happy or sad, in this film's case it should show Max or Mona where they kill Lupino? That's another point Max Payne should be the one ending the film, the ending should describe how he feels... Film Noir movies and Max Payne it has been where it shows either the victory, sadness or death of a person and once that is shown they start telling Us how they got to this situation, this could have been done and then put 3 years ago or something and then show the death of Max's wife etc etc.That's how it has been in Film noir movies and Max Payne games...
Bar woman again- I wish u picked an elderly guy like Marty from Max Payne 3. Now just too picky but whatever.
Some quotes from max Payne like "You're a real Angel Max" I believe did not fit in.
At the end where Mona shoots I was confused who was she shooting at, there was a henchmen next to Lupino was it the henchmen or Lupino?..
The bit where Lupino gives the powder of Valkyr to the Curtis guy I reckon you should have added syringes in there, Also from the games Valkyr is liquid not powder? Also there is a blue element? Don't take us back to the 2008 Max Payne where Valkyr was blue......
The leather jacket everything is great but it should have been more like the Max Payne 1 clothing where he as a white vest, Hawaiian shirt and a necklace that doesn't matter but you know to be more accurate to the game. Also Mona should have worn a red leather jacket...
Also I know this is a fan film but I think these points were crucial, there should have been some type of snow blizzard involved, I see you have some scenes showing a birds eye view of New York maybe should of changed it to a snow blizzard? I mean the snow was crucial in Max's life as the snow described the mood of Max Payne, no snow in Max Payne 1 meant he had gotten the revenge of what has been done on his wife...
Max Payne is action packed and in order for the viewers to feel, hear and understand Max's character, his mood and everything there has to be constant similes, metaphors etc. I see you have done some narration in this film but I reckon it needed more metaphors and similes etc etc. The metaphors and similes in the games were used so we can hear and sense Max's feelings, there is constant gun battle in Max Payne and the metaphors allows us to hear him.
Address unknown was used but it was pointless adding it because Address unknown is meant to be an Easter egg of Max's life or a fortune teller of what is going to happen, for example you have used a paper slid under the door, you needed to bring that into Max's present life. The tv describes Max's life...
How did Max Learn Mona was with Lupino does not make sense. The movie is missing many points this is why I mentioned adding Gognitti because it would have been a much more smooth movie. Gognitti would also carry information or something that they have held her captive...
NOW THE GOOD POINTS ENOUGH CRITICISING...
Mona (Gracie Tyrell), Max (Joan James Muixi), Lupino (Leroy Kincade), Curtis (Jon Campling). These were all GREAT actors in this film. In fact brilliant as this is a fan film... But the best I would say is Jon Campling even though he's not a character from the games I think he was brilliant in terms of acting. Great choice to act Max Payne (Joan James) mainly because he looks like the video game character and also has a deep voice which is basically required to be max Payne so excellent his acting was good also, Mona was a great choice as well as you've picked someone that looks a lot similar to Kathy Tong from Max Payne 2, obviously I would prefer her due to the games but excellent choice the Mona had to be beautiful and you've picked that well, Lupino (Leroy Kincade) I reckon he had to the hardest role in the entire film, to play as someone who is possessed is really difficult and he did an excellent job... As I said Stephanie (Holly Woodhouse) was the worst actress, I reckon you should not have added her... She was also in the start of the film and that's not a great way to begin the film with an awful actress. I know I'm being mean but sorry I have to be honest..
Compared to the 2008 movie the characters were definitely MUCH BETTER so well done. The story accuracy was much better in this fan film. But Max Payne 2008 had some details better such as the snow but the detail in this film was much better!
Before I said detail, details in this film such as Max Payne hunting for revenge was always set in the night. Also a very noir thing to stick to night time in the entire film so EXCELLENT JOB! The whiskey bottle had a Kong sticker AMAZING!
Even thought the bullet time was great I reckon there should have been more diving involved to show how badass Max Payne really is.
I loved how you added the old themes!! Also tv shows from Max Payne like "Address unknown" this is great detail in the movie !
I liked the nightmare scenes, I'm glad they've been added to give a more Max Payne feel. You've added Address unknown where it says a paper slid underneath the door there should have been something done with that like A picture of Max's wife slid under the door, then max opens the door and it's Mona, Mona pulls a gun says "You're a real Angel max" shoots him then Max wakes up from the nightmare.
To be honest this movie is better than most Hollywood movies!
A BIG WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THIS WHOLE THING ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. THANK YOU SOO MUCH TO THE PRODUCER, WRITER AND COMPOSER FOR BRINGING THE LEGEND BACK.
So to sum this all up I'll give this a rating review, I'm going to rate it in terms of Fan film because I can't review this compared to the likes of heavily budgeted Hollywood movies...
Sorry not 6.5/10 as this is a fan film and low budgeted, I reckon about 8/10 but there can be more done to this movie. If it were a tv series it would be higher because it looks like a great beginning.

O another note the thumbnail is awful , no wonder it took me 4 years to find out this was a Max Payne movie, the marketing people should know better
Great movie overall, I would give it a solid 8.5/10. Acting done by actors was good, especially Max. However at some times it lacked the ambience of a movie.
Since the film finished without completing the story we need more parts of the film. Kudos to the makers of this film!👍

Max Payne actor did really good and Mona was also well chosen, they make the film. Kudos to the director but the change of story from the games and the detective that is tortured by Lupino and the long hair goon were not necessary

How were you guys able to capture bullet time so well with so little resources is beyond me. An amazing performance. It's always like this in most game-based movies. The fans are able to pull off a much better job then the Hollywood studios or those wealthy story writers. The reason, in my opinion is that they're looking to make money, end of the topic. The Fans, all they want is a movie which is actually based on the game. Hats off to you guys.
Ok three things wrong with this movie
1) it's too short
2) it's not long enough
3) the bullet time CLIFFHANGER?!?! OMG WHYYY??? 😭😭

Great acting by Max Payne actor, better than Wahlberg, Mona was cute and nice for the role. Sorry but I find the changes from the story were not for the best, it lacked the humor of the games and the writing and acting of the rest was lame. Music was dope

How come i never heard of this?? Max actor was excellent, raspy voice is different but it worked. I also liked the Lupino actor , disappointing to not see Max and Lupino have a duel at the end. Mona was good except seemed helpless not a badass assassin, the story itself is fine

The actor that plays Max Payne and the Draven guy both are the ones that elevate the project with good acting are very good I cared snd empathized with Max on this one a lot and I wanted to see him and Draven having a go

Tsumi 8evr I think the Lupino did well ,in the game he talked a lot about the devil... To play as Lupino is the hardest role, you have to act as an possessed person and no one but him could have probably done that better other then a real possessed person.. Also Leroy Kincaide (Lupino) he knew best how to act for Lupino as he is a fan of the game
+TopNotchAdvice Im in the film industry and i know a bit about this. I dont want to knock on the guy he did a nice job as i know he directed the short but as lupino i just see an actor saying lines and pulling faces he also doesnt have the face of a villain or the voice. You talk ablut being possesed he doesnt look possesed at all just pretending to be possesed there is nothing going on behind the eyes . And knowing the games is one thing but understanding a character is another lupino is supposed to be almost diabolical and lol you can tell he directed lupino is the one with the most dialogue..

Okay somebody tell wahlberg this is how its done . Big fan of Max Payne here i am very pleased with the potrayal of Max here i felt the pain he was living (wahlberg couldnt do it) the loneliness , the strength the whole thing its there fantastic choice with the casting of max . I like too the long hair guy he was over the top but good although i dont remember him from the games. Mona was fine but i didnt buy the tough assasin part . Lupino wasnt looking possesed like in the game it was more like the 2008 movie but ok
I have a problem with the story i felt it was superficial and wasnt there on tbe level of the games but i'll give it a pass as its a fan film and i think it got the vibe so much more than tbe 2008 movie . Sorry but thr dialogue was a bit forgetable, the games have so many awesome lines of max and other characters etc and this one doesnt have a cool one liner in al the thing

Absolutely awesome, so pleased you enjoyed it and took a full hit of nostalgia to boot. As a Fan Film we wanted to create something that is slightly adapted from the games but is in true keeping with it also. So for us we wanted to read between the lines of the characters somewhat. So for max we wanted to go on a journey with him.... What's he thinking, what does he do when he isn't killing bad guys. After all he takes pain killers to kill his pain but if you never see what pain he is trying to heal then why take them? Did you manage to spot any of the Easter eggs hidden in the dialogue? Our structure for the dialogue was heavily influenced by the games. There are even some classic one liners. "Your a real angel max", "There can be no us in this" "I'm such a damsel in distress", "The flesh of fallen angels"... Plus tons of others? The game was very influential to the dialogue, sorry you didn't think so. #payneiscoming
Ovince 5 "marky Mark" never cared at all about max payne and he never played the game because it was "violent" so if he ended up being a crappy actor in the movie is not surprising.
+GM ast yes if Wahlberg had put more into it and really studied the games he would have done a better job, he just didnt have that pain of the family loss in him.

Its good effort but the story is not good enough to represent the games. Don't change the story if you can not make it better why people dont get that?? Prope to the actors as the dialogue was kind of difficukt to make it realistic i assume

Can someone please get a casting director and an actual screening for this because this is almost dangerously close to the first and second video games back on the PS2 and it's almost as good as Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis Max. Payne Mona sax work sure, I might have discovered this a little late in the year. 2024 but the very fact that someone actually took the time to make this in 2017 after the 2008 Max Payne remarkable acting really consider making this a movie not only does this max pain look like Christian Bale if not identical but played the role flawlessly. The same goes with Mona sax. Can someone please make this a freaking movie part 2 because the first max pain 2008. If you really paid close attention to the very end of the movie, the first Max Payne was taken place right after the first video game directly into part 2. The fan film on the other hand is a combination of part one and part 2 the video games so this would be part two The Fall of Max Payne You know what's really funny is Jack lepino looks just like to go from breaking bad almost identical and not only that but Mona sax looks identical to the actual Mona sax all those years ago on the max pain too the fall of Max pain video game for the PlayStation 2. Same dialogue flawless on everybody's part rest in peace, Kevin and James voice actors of Max Payne👍👍👍👍
This was a huge miscast imo. Max Payne with a foreign accent is just ridiculous. A total contradiction to an established character. Should of found an actor that sounds at least similar to McCaffrey even if it isn't perfect. Decent fan film otherwise though.
This film does capture the essences of what Max Payne is really about, it was so much better than the movie from 2008 and happy anniversary much love!!!

Just seen this film and I gotta agree with the rest of the comments, that this fan made film beats the action movie made by studios.
Granted it has been a little bit reimagined and some story told by different characters or at the different time in storyline, but hey, at least it's a bit closer to heaven :)
Im big fan of Max Payne but i think the director here took many liberties messing up with the actual story of the games

The actor who plays Max looks like a perfect blend of Sam Lake and Timothy Gibbs which is great because playing 1&2 back to back is extremely jarring when Max's likeness completely changes
Also this is a mix between max payne 1 and 2 chapters which makes it even funnier
the writing suffers a lot comparing it to the games but good short.
the performance of actor playing max payne moved me on the bedroom scene good acting overall, Mona needed to be taller more modelesque like kathy was. lupino was ok as villain he was similar to the lupino in the mw movie not fond of the old hippie he overacted a lot. Overall good short of max payne but nothing beats the first game
The story is iffy but good effort in trying different things. The good characters deliver, max payne actor is very very good and Mona sax girl did a fine job but the bad ones not so much lupino is im sorry to say terrible and old man is like doing a theatre play. i liked the action scene but it needed much more, some scenes specially of the bad guy are boring

Никаких наркоманских ангелов, наркотик Валькирин ЗЕЛЁНЫЙ, ещё дико порадовало наличии виски KONG, я даже зааплодировал за это. И дико понравилось то, что персонажи произносят цитаты из игры. Я так полагаю, будет продолжение....
