Met Norman Pain in a pub I won't name in a part of London I won't name, and he's genuinely one of the most gentle, humble and shy people I've ever met. I told him I was a huge fan, loved his lyrics and what he rapped about. He almost got a little embaressed that I was saying how talented he was in front of his friend. I didn't overdo it at all, it was a 30 second interaction, I offered to buy him a drink (he politely declined but said thank you) and didn't ask for a selfie. He honestly came off as a really gentle soul that's been knocked about a lot in life.
He’s not out there for the fame so that makes sense.
absolutely nailed the depression, more of us blokes should speak out and say it's ok to feel down
I never comment on RUclips but I 1000% I agree. I LOVE seeing friends being able to be vulnerable and talk mental health.
I came for the Pete & Bas reactions, I’m staying for the mental health awareness and display of healthy male friendships.
Depends im sure u already know but open up in the wrong place or person than its a wall of pain as a man noone gives a fuk about u its real, show weakness at ur own risk.
I always feel way worse when I vent lmao
Norman is the uncle you would call if you wanna kill someone or you need a shoulder to cry on
I feel the contrast is what makes it memorable. It's like how Hey Ya is a song about how love is destined to end in heart break. But you don't wanna listen you just wanna dance.
Im rally glad you delved into the dark undertones of this song. So many people just think its a funny song but it gets real if you pay attention
English (and especially Northern) humour, is very dark, mixing dark shit with humour is common place here, love that you understood it, too many don't, great reaction guys 👍
It definitely sounds like it but we love that humor too, Appreciate the support man 🫡💯
“I’m not gonna pause it too much”
Proceeds to pause it ELEVEN MORE TIMES 😂
Gotta love it though
The beat they are rapping too is; Estelle - American Boy.
" id kick it with you, American boy American boy"
Also, 5:22 he says " i love DRUGS and sketchy PILLS"
Much love to you guys, I've fallen into this rabbit hole as well and can't get enough northern boys. I highly recommend checking out Norman Pain's solo work, specifically the songs "Fuck", "Sonnet", and "What It's Worth". The man is a legitimate talent and I'm pretty sure that you guys will get a lot out of his music.
PKJ also has an EP from 2019 called Twins of Darkness that's basically horrorcore, it's 6 tracks and it's pure flames. No one on youtube has reacted to it yet, you guys should take a journey into his dark and twisted mind lol
...close your eyes and let the darkness take you sloooowly... I ride this road alone.
Agree on Twins Of Darkness. It’s overlooked.
"Fuck" and "Sonnet" are fire. Reactors be sleeping on Twins of Darkness for real.
I would add Norman Pain - Human Vermin in there even though the lyrics would be really tough to hear on a first listen. Ohh just realized Pain & Strife has subtitles. That would be a good one
Seconding the Twins of Darkness. It's so good.
First reaction to this song that actually took into account that these two old men probably went through some serious shit in their lives. Actual fire reaction again!
I grew up in a shitty town and we had 2-3 Norm type guys who just, you could see the wild shit they'd survived just by looking at them. I love seeing a weird old dude get recognition online.
these are just old man who are very talented at rapping but the producer writes most of their lines they don't live this shit it just done for the fun of it
PKJ had twin brother that died. They were creating music together, you have tracks online. That's is why he is so dark:
You can find it by the name: "Patrick Karneigh Junior - Twins Of Darkness (2019)"
My favorite is: "Patrick Karneigh Junior - Ghouls And Ghosts"
As the story goes, Kevin demanded that the group have danceable beats - hence the contrasts
Glad to have made it in the video. Thanks guys.
Nobody Likes Me is a bit more upbeat lyrically, and just as if not more wild.
The beat is from 'American Boy - Kanye & Estelle'.
Estelle - American Boy feat. Kanye*
+1 for Norman Pain’s solo work. It’s dope. He takes a different approach with The Northern Boys stuff. His solo work is way more technically impressive.
Norman Payne sounds like cookie monster rapping. Love the old fellas rapping from the real life streets of the UK 🇬🇧. I love. You guys breaking the bars down, best on the internet.
I love how much you guys understand these artists. They’re just ‘characters’, but there’s always a bit of themselves that come through in their talent, they don’t want to make you feel down and depressed, they just want to have fun with it and make you have fun at the same time. Glad you guys had a good laugh watching!!
Hey! Just like rap!
12:18 - best part ever "feel free to say no" omg i spat out my coffee hahaha
The song is the epitomy of "fuck it, we ball"
Love the Norman Payne = Norm in pain connection. If you make it to his solo work it fits
oh yeah never noticed that before good catch
I just subscribed cause I need you guys reacting to Norman Pain's Sonet in my life. Let's just say it's a more serious side of Norman. One of the hardest hitting rap songs of all time....and you will feel the beat for real.
this, but i'd say "nobody likes me" first
Indeed. Nobody likes me is the best Northern Boys song imo., so don't overlook that one either. It was just they wanted to hear a more serious beat. I should have pointed out PKJ's Sindhu Sesh too.
If you want the darker beat, Norman Pain's solo stuff (Fuck and Sonnet come to mind) is jet black and show Norman both a little more unhinged and a lot more lyrical.
If they rapped this over a dark beat they'd be put in a rubber room.
you guys are totally getting it with your commentary! i think the line that really sums it up is “hang myself in my neighbors garden/when he comes home that’s a nice surprise”-just the need to be glib and joke about something that’s gonna cause you and others’ pain
Kudos to you guys for exploring The Northern Boys. They have several other tracks that are all bangers. Also Norman Pain's solo shit is HELLA DARK.
The beat makes it that much more realistic, because it’s a likely soundtrack to a person having these thoughts at a public event with music like a weeding or something
Damn, a lot of the reaction shit I've seen on these guys has been just "Hee hwee funnee" but that little breakdown around the 8:46 part was some really good shit! I've definitely considered the whole "This is what depression feels like" angle while listening to Northern Boys before but I thought I was just thinking way too much on some shit that wasn't meant to be thought of that deeply, hearing y'all discuss that is strangely vindicating!
Sometimes the interpretation of music depends on what the listener feels from it but I think your right about Norman Pain music tho especially since he's the silliest one in the group and the tears of a clown theory is a real thing too
What a great reaction, it made me subscribe and I hate subscribing! More Northern Boys please. Also Norman Pains solo stuff is really on point and criminally under rated. Thanks for making me smile guys
Honestly this video and your discussion about depression helped shine a light on some of my own personal experiences and thought processes. This is an incredibly well done reaction video. Most react channels don’t add much substance, but you guys got me having personal revelations at 2am. Genuinely, thank you. I’m glad I watched this.
Love the genuine excitement at the beginning. Great channel!
This podcast needs to be filmed in front of a studio audience that is provided Hennessy and Stella 😅😅😅 Laughter....its a helluva drug
😂😂😂🫡🫡
Northern Boys only have a handful of songs and they're all great, worth a react
First time watching y’all, great analysis and you’re both funny asf
If you haven't checked it out, Pete & Bas got a new song called "Grandpa," and its an absolute heater.
Man, this episode is a rollercoaster. Y'all absolutely nailed the breakdown, funny as hell, but ALSO the relatable experiences and feelings.
Great stuff, guys.
If i ever run into you guys in a movie theater im going to keep pausing it and start doing commentary just so you understand how it feels.
Well that would be dumb lol we obviously never saw the movie but you've obviously saw the video lol that's pretty goofy
Just found your channel. Love the breakdowns and the way you discuss it from a production standpoint. Top tier shit boys!
Norman Pain’s solo stuff is shockingly dope.
Not silly, sad, sometimes dark.
Genuinely he's the most underrated artist in the UK
Sex train. Is there newest track and it's by far their best.
So the Goldberg looking dude (Uncle Bal) has his one solo track. Fresh hot buns (I think is the name of it. ) fire track but way different as it's east Indian stile. But still fire
i love your thorough analysis here! i liked the bit about the contrasting vibe of the beat vs the lyrics. my sister would call that "lyrical dissonance" and its a style i always like, because its that kinda music that always made me feel better while feeling expressed when my depression was bad. like yeah shit sucks but damn im also jamming.
thats just me tho, i understand wanting to really commit to the darkness.
Best react of yours I've seen. Little personal. Little professional. Picked out some things I missed. Well done. ^_^
I interpret the Norman in Noman Pain to come from "norman", a population of France, England, and Scandinavia, from the House of Normandy
Northern Boys feel like dark Pete and Bas without the grandkids to juice up the lyrics
For real. PKJ is Bas minus class and Norm is Pete minus tact.
About the norm in pain, the normans are an old tribe of people who today are the brits, is where i think he's going with it, he's a norman in pain.
"The Normans were a population arising in the medieval Duchy of Normandy from the intermingling between Norse Viking settlers and indigenous West Franks and Gallo-Romans"
7:00 Jackson5 "That's a pretty good beat to get into your stroke though" 🤣😂 I'm dead.
Sight unseen this reaction is🔥🔥🔥
"Norm in pain" See? Lol
Cool reaction, felt genuine, insightful while funny at the same time. Nice breakdown
I love you guys, the chemistry between you two is unreal
Check out their new song Robot Man, a bit more comedic but the underlying message/commentary is similarly dark
I'm going to turn my grandma onto these guys this Thanksgiving
These guys are hilarious, it’s all self deprivation, but in a positive sense… typical British humour. If we’re going through shit, sometimes the best way to express is its to just take the piss out of yourself.
These guys take rap/hip hop comedy to the absolute next level. The type of stuff, you would never think of but because you heard it, it’s actually funny as fuck.
If that makes sense 🤣
I love happy beats with dark lyrics. This song is 🔥
Brits are great at not taking themselves too seriously. This is hilarious that you are taking this seriously.
Love your content guys! Stoke on Trent UK!
The beat sounds like Estelle - American Boy
It is
In the UK a studio flat is a one-bed shithole. Punk's not dead boys.
8:53 that's very much where my head was at when I enjoyed the song. you either disassociatvely mask your depression to be palatable to people for long enough that you don't know how to live with the sadness/depression, or you live with it for so long with the depression openly and really that you accept it about yourself and learn how to find the light in darkness or find the humor in the darkness
Pretty sure the song is American boy
Please please please do Norman Pain's 'For What it's Worth'. The track is a vibe but man, Norman is a legit artist. He's really using music to exorcise his demons and it's amazing to see. Some of his stuff might be too dark for a channel like this but that track needs more eyes and ears on it. That said, 'Sonnet' is his masterpiece. One of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Unbelievably haunting and deep.
I'm so deep into hiphop now I'm looking for reactions from the internet, yall do it right tho . I think it's hilarious they use this disco beat with these dark rhymes.
Great reaction! You guys need to react to Norman Pain's solo stuff, especially 'Sonnet'
British comedy is very dark 😂
We use laughter a lot during sad times. ❤
People crack jokes at funerals.
Have you two reacted mickey flanagans sketch "americans"
I think it's called?
Jimmy carr is dark, but not as dark as frankie Boyle...his mortifying 🫣
Been waiting for this one boys, gonna try and guess the wrestling reference before i watch the video.............erm....at some point one of you will mention mr wonderful
wait till you reach the northenr boys "give it to me" lol
No, it's the beat for American boy.
thumbs up for acting out the choke stroke
PKJ has much darker tracks on youtube, this guy is savage xd
sounds like black kids and kids in 90's northern England have a lot in common
Edit....I wondered if you guys also had that one kid...you kno the one who just poke the bear...just to see.
( is he dangerous,or just crazy.)
cos man, there was ALWAYS one.
Yeah. They usually become sh00taz 😆
@@AlmostJokingPod I always thought these types were total douches....but turns out they actually serve a purpose. Deliberate provocation is the quickest way to measure the threat potential or someone or something. Turns out animals do it too. but... whilst I was love to think my guys were looking out fo us... pretty sure they were just being dicks. lol... have good one my guys ❤️
I feel like the upbeat track needs to be in there because Kevin wants something he can dance to.
Kinda like a D12 track. Happy beat crazy lyrics
Yeah that's a good comparison
How about this song?? "Robot Man - 3D Scifi hip-hop (Pats bit)"
Nor’man is “Northman”.. I think it’s like the South of England
Norman pain sonnet and fuck show what hes capable of doing
Poor people everywhere are traumatised. We have more in common across the planet than people that are from the same nation. Live long and prosper!
Comedians say a lot of comedy comes from a dark place. So…yeah
It’s time for Nobody Likes Me, which I think significantly tops this one.
I worked at a rich guys house where the gardener hung himself in the tree. UK's getting worse but the rhymes getting better. Liking ur love for UK rap. Chek out high focus records..... And datkid,.. defenders of style,...verbt,....fliptrix,....split prophets... I enjoy ur show keep checking out the UK much love
Imagine if you could go back in time and show Grandmaster Flash where Rap would go. Would be be happy ? Would he be freaked out ? Would he just ask for betting tips ? Something to think about.
Norman pain - F*ck!
Trust me.
Solid A!!!
harry mack and beardyman, the greatest freestyler
Would be fun to see you guys reacting to Morrisson and maybe Jordan aswell. Jordans accent May be hard to understand at times tho.
Going for a number 3 lol
When we getting Bermondsey?
The music is giving me American boy by estelle and kanye vibes
Dope is old-school slang for cannabis in the 🇬🇧 guys 😎
It’s American slang also, probably originally tbf. Not really used in the UK.
Now you gotta do sexy train
Have you done anything from Ren? Peace
Too many funny bars for a dark beat
Sidhu moose Wala do it place
guys these are just old man who are very talented at rapping but the producer writes most of their lines they don't live this shit lol
Now I’m definitely at the end of the video 🤣🤣 sorry.
Look… you guys invented it, and used it to express what wouldn’t/couldnt be heard via speech because people wouldn’t listen unless there was a beat behind it. And the only reason you’re listening to UK rap/drill etc is because of America, and the rap greats. But we are just daft, and the best thing we do is taking the piss out of ourselves. The difference between us and you is worlds apart, but music unites above all!
Holy shitballs. It's British humour.
