I'm so happy that I got to experience this era in one of the best ways possible. It was January of 2005, I was 12, and my family had just moved in to our brand new house and got a dual-DVR satellite package from DirecTV to record shows on two TVs from two different channels simultaneously, and since my room was next to the living room, I ended up getting the other DVR! Man, what a time to be a kid! I had the excitement of a brand new house, finally getting my own room after having to share only two rooms with my whole family previously when we lived with my Grandparents in their house, and thus, I had the entire Spring and Summer to enjoy this awesome era of Cartoon Network as well as Toonami and Adult Swim while also being able to record almost as much as I wanted so I could binge what I missed whenever I wanted. How I miss those genuinely exciting and care-free days and nights!
I'm going to eliminate my bias for the Powerhouse Era here. You 2 already know so I'm keeping it real here. I remember when the City Era first debuted like yesterday. It was 2 1/2 weeks after I finished 2nd grade, 8 years old. I had just gotten off my first vacation of Sarsota, FL. When I got back and turned on Cartoon Network next morning, I was shocked that there was a new logo and a new set of beautiful CGI bumpers, after being used to the checkerboard logo and 2D style for a long time. CN City was great throughout 2004 and 2005, especially that epic summer, Miguzi, Toonami on Saturday nights, and CN Fridays with Tommy & Tara. Shows like Codename: KND, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Teen Titans, and Justice League Unlimited were in its prime. Lit up af! Ed, Edd n Eddy continued on and even the final seasons of Johnny Bravo and The Powerpuff Girls aired at the time too. Good action shows & anime on Toonami (NARUTO and DBZ uncut) including reruns of Cartoon Cartoons from time to time. I enjoyed the original City Era from Summer 2004-Spring 2006. It was an adjustment but I fell in love with it really fast. Now honestly I didn't like the YES! Era from Summer 2006-Spring 2007, I still enjoyed the good shows around (including Ben 10) and the last part of TOM 3, but CN started declining for me because CN Fridays changed its logo to red and the skits became unlikable, I wasn't a fan of MGPAM and Squirrel Boy, the Re-Animated movie led to Out of Jimmy's Head the following year, and TOM 4 debuted on Toonami which screwed things up. So when I look back at how great the City Era was, I think of Summer 2004-Spring 2006. That stretch was awesome and who couldn't remember how amazing Summer 2005 was!?
They really should bring back this era along with Powerhouse. Just imagine the potential if they added in CN's modern shows. The GOOD ones like Adventure Time and Regular Show and Gumball in which they could crossover with the old CN shows like Ed Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo and Dexter. It would be an amazing way to celebrate the 25th Anniversary
The City Era bumpers were amazing, don't get me wrong, but I never liked that some of them were just posters in the background instead of being as creative as the others. Still a great few years for the channel though.
BTW, May 2003 is when Cartoon Cartoon Fridays ended. Summer 2003 was just Summer Fridays, then in October 2003 CN Fridays first debuted. So CN Fridays debuted 8 months before the City Era began, and CCF ended over a year before the City Era began. Even Miguzi replaced Toonami on the weekdays for Saturday nights in April 2004, 2 months before the City debuted.
Fun fact is that CN Fridays began in September ‘03 but with the Summer Friday’s bumpers as a “transitional” block. Then by October they rebranded it to the New Friday’s. I also remember watching Miguzi promos during that late powerhouse period in 04’
Really great video, like the history and information of that era! The bumpers are so amazing, used to be obsessed with them when I was younger. Definitely agree with you guys! Dig you channel, just subscribed! :)
I love this era and the Noods era. I disliked the fact when Regular Show ended and they didn't air all the episodes in a marathon like all networks do when a show ends 😞😡 Love your discussions ❤
This is a nice video. It's a detailed discussion about what made the City Era work and why it was memorable. I have lots of memories of catching bumpers and watching CN in 4-5th grade. I even remember the summers and just watching the lineup(and also Toonami) the one problem I have is how you put Staples on a pedestal. Sure, Syndner might have made questionable decisions(like taking action cartoons off the channel and..CN Real),but he also greenlight Adventure Time,Steven Universe, and Regular Show. Whether you like those shows or not,you can't deny that they helped dig CN out of the hole they made.(They hole that Synder himself made, but still!) Not to mention he realized that playing the same 4 to 5 shows everyday is NOT a good idea. I remember the schedule being far more varied in his time, than Miller.(Although I don't think Vishnu was there at the time, but as the CEO he should have a say in the schedule making.) At the very least Synder was willing to try new ideas even if they didn't work, rather than keep CN in a stagnant state like Miller seems to be doing. People thought it couldn't get worse after Synder and they were wrong. Hindsight is 20/20. Actually, a good idea for a video you could do is comparing and contrasting the different CN CEOs and their methods, marketing, etc.
Speaking of Boomerang at about 21:00, rip boomerang got ruined and everyone that supported it was a weirdo from online chats I had. I miss old boomerang
The years of 2000-2010 were basically by far the best eras for many cartoon shows of Cartoon Network rising regarding their peakness and popularity as we grew up with them during our nostalgic childhood memories that marked our nostalgia back in the good old days.
I wonder Numbuh 2 from the KND have a lighthearted conversation with Amythyst from "Steven Universe" with Grizz from "We Bare Bears" for CN's 25th Anniversary. By the way, I love CN City era, I totally remember that era when I was 11 at the time.
2000s greatest and memorable cartoon show jams of Cartoon Network that ruled and ran the golden to iconic eras will always have a special place in everyone hearts for nostalgic childhood memories that we grew up with them are: - Ed Edd N Eddy, Samurai Jack, Codename Kids Next Door, Teen Titans, The Grims Adventure Of Billy and Mandy, Xiaolin Showdown, Hi Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Mega XLR, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, 16Teen, Robotboy, Camp Lazlo, Classic Ben 10, My Gym's Partner Is A Monkey, The Life And Times Of Juniper Lee, Class of 3000, The Squirell Boy, Chowder, Flapjack, Total Drama Island, Secrets Sathurdays, Batman The Brave And The Bold, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien & Alien Force and Johnny Test.
CN these days just replays Teen Titans Go over and over again with little time for their other shows. Seriously that show makes CNReal look good by comparison.

I was only 5-6 around this time til 2007 where I was 7-8 and even then I knew CN fell off when those shows ended, Toonami ended, and where they went live action.
I mean who really cares if CCF or CN Fridays was better. You know the main reason why CN made Fridays live action was because of all the budget needed to create the City bumpers with cartoons interacting with each other, which was better than the same recycled animations of cartoons interacting every Friday. You know a lot of people forget CCF's first season from 1999-2000 was live action. CCF wasn't hosted by the cartoons until Summer 2000. Summer 2000-Spring 2002 was the peak of CCF, but by Fall 2002-Spring 2003 it was watered down with recycled animatons, and like I said it was a better treat seeing cartoon characters interact in a big city. CCF or CN Fridays, both blocks consisted of new episodes of our favorite cartoons which is what we mainly watched the blocks for. I enjoyed the skits on CN Fridays from 2003-2005, but I didn't like the 2006 ones though. Anyways, that's all I got for now. 4 years later and y'all are still doing well on RUclips!
Carl Bloke Imo they should literally have an entire week with anniversary bumpers and play at least one episode every show cartoon network has ever had
SuperLemonLime yeah don't forget Johnny Test, mile lu and og, supernoobs, TTG, PPG reboot, my gym partners a monkey and squirrel boy should in no way ever come back on the channel
While the CN Real era the worst era even it had a diamond in the rough in the form of Hole in the Wall which in opinion was an amazing game show which I learned years later actually was based off of a Japanese game show of the same name
.-. man listening to this 6 years later you guys have no idea how depressing this shit is....we as kids got to watch only something you could ever dream happen. Sadly this level of creativity is just not around. Hell if I remember correctly even disney did something like this exact idea outside of Kingdom hearts we had :D Disney House of Mouse.
Been watching through a lot of your videos and just wanted to say that I greatly enjoy them! I have a lot of respect for the effort you put into them and it shows how much you care about them and us viewers. Are you going to be uploading more videos or are you starting to wind it down? I know you've been doing it for years and years so I was just wondering.
Also it's ok to post this for me I think the city era was really fun I actually didn't mind Miguzi it didn't last nearly as long as toonami on weekday also most ppl don't remember hi hi puffy AMI yumi I thought it was a much better show than class 3.000 even my siblings love hi hi puffy AMI yumi I do love fosters and camp Lazlo I really loved the acquired programming at this time also in 2007/2008 alot of the acquired shows finished it's run or got cancelled also side point even Nickelodeon had great cartoons like Danny phantom and avatar for instance and Nickelodeon had alot of cartoons finishing there run in 2007/2008 as well also I think as of now cartoon network barely has any acquired shows now only like 6 imported shows and barely any original shows with Clarence and adventure time almost done I hope it changes for the good and not the bad change.

The CGI City Era was my favorite Era! I miss the the old years of CN! But the old live action fem the older eras had animation material in it still and in 2009 when they aired COMPLETE live action with no animation material that is when I think CN went downhill and I don't think the modern Toonami on Adult Swim as great as the old Toonami nor the modern TTG and PPG compares to the older ones. Hopefully the 2020's will be better for CN and other kids channels and they will start obeying their duties for entertainment again like in the 90's and early 2000's! Amen
To be fair, I think Fairy Odd Parents was just that one example of a show that was made for flash. There art style was not exactly 3 dimensional. The characters were always pretty flat and the show had it's main angles for most part. I think flash animation could not take away from the show but only streamline it. But I feel the show already ran it's course. Trying to "shake it up" by adding characters was gimmicky. I think it would be best if they either made Timmy get in new situation as he gets older. (I believe they are with Timmy for life right?) It would be interesting because Cosmo and Wanda has to go threw uncharted territory for fairies. So we can see those scenareos play out too. Along with seeing teenage/young adult Timmy work with teenaged/young adult problems. Or follow a new kid and set of Fairies. But honestly that would just be a re-skin for most part huh?

I think you made a stronger argument for the Powerhouse Era. Boomerang and channels like it devalue the main channel by taking away variety. Let's be honest Miguzi was not great and was a huge step down from Toonami Let's be honest Toonami itself had peaked and was slowly declining Some of the biggest shows were ending So you made a good argument that the Powerhouse Era was better by showing that it was the peak. Let's be honest everything was downhill from there and it only got worse over time.
+MonstersReview what do you think of the Ben 10 reboot to me it's not terrible i like it better then PPG, and TTG the art style is weird though but I actually don't hate it
Cartoon network fell into the infinite money hole and i think its safe to say we wont see the good side of the channel until we get a ceo that cares. Ik people are going to argue STEVEN UNIVERSE IS GOOD AND THERES A COUPLE OTHER GOOD SHOWS but their ending soon (i think su was confirmed to end on season five and gumball on season 6 etc.) and whenever a show dies a reboot takes its spot. the bumpers are literally just loud annoying computer edm with the logo looking like it was pasted in with microsoft paint. Cartoon network doesnt have ANY blocks any ore except for their holiday ttg marathons. Cn doesnt even CARE about airing a new episode of a show theirs actually more promotion of the new episode to be watched online than on tv. Adventure time never airs and regular show didnt get one rerun after its horrible sendoff being drowned in a ttg marathon. Yes i see its a good buisness strategy to air reboots constantly because they make money. But are they not allowed to spend it? cartoon network probably made less money and look at how awesome the programming and bumpers where. Is it too much to ask for a company that cares about its audience and not how much money they can hold in their bank

Millennials are so lucky that they grew up with this. The Mid 2000s was a great time for TV.
Yu Yu Hakusho!
Instablaster
They really should bring back this era along with Powerhouse. Just imagine the potential if they added in CN's modern shows. The GOOD ones like Adventure Time and Regular Show and Gumball in which they could crossover with the old CN shows like Ed Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo and Dexter. It would be an amazing way to celebrate the 25th Anniversary
Who else wishes that Jack and Professor Utonium would've interracted in CN City?
Kris O'Korra they would probably call each other handsome
cn city is the best era of all time, miguuzi is underated as all hell.
No one liked Miguuzi because it was a shitty Toonami replacement
I was upset I lost my Toonami shows in the middle of the day however Meguzi introduced me to some pretty decent shows as well
I hope Ben Boquelet is aware of CN city.
@MonstersReview It's good to see you back man sorry about your 🐕 my father passed away from cancer.
My 8 year old self loved CN city. It was just so much fun watching this on Fridays along with Friday night eating popcorn at my grandparents house.
The City Era bumpers were amazing, don't get me wrong, but I never liked that some of them were just posters in the background instead of being as creative as the others. Still a great few years for the channel though.
Man the good days of cartoon network!😭
I also remember watching Miguzi promos during that late powerhouse period in 04’
The City, Noods, Check-It 1.0 to 3.0 were the best eras of Cartoon Network.
@MonstersReview @FutureGohanSSJ2 Great Video guys love the CN City Era and Powerhouse Era!
Does anyone remember the clusterfuck that was Fried Dynamite?
i miss you so much
😭
i wanna cry too 😭
Still my favorite era, wished it stayed longer so the new cartoons could've been added. Now all we got is cubes flipping or something.
HelloGokenHere So creative right!? Lmao.
Yes creatively inspired. blocks and more blocks.
this lame check it dimensional garbage is getting really old.
Really great video, like the history and information of that era! The bumpers are so amazing, used to be obsessed with them when I was younger. Definitely agree with you guys! Dig you channel, just subscribed! :)
I love this era and the Noods era.
I disliked the fact when Regular Show ended and they didn't air all the episodes in a marathon like all networks do when a show ends 😞😡
Love your discussions ❤
Rainbow Tie Reviews Regular show get episode reruns in the UK.
I remember the schedule being far more varied in his time, than Miller.(Although I don't think Vishnu was there at the time, but as the CEO he should have a say in the schedule making.)
At the very least Synder was willing to try new ideas even if they didn't work, rather than keep CN in a stagnant state like Miller seems to be doing.
I would argue that the Toonami era was the absolute best epoch in Cartoon Network.
Or if my husband at age 10 talked to starfire from teen titans
I have never found a video that hit me so fucking hard.
The CN City era was the golden time for many cartoon shows to shine in our nostalgic childhood memories that we grew up with them during the 2000s.
YES YES YES you are finally back, Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

welcome back monster
CN these days just replays Teen Titans Go over and over again with little time for their other shows. Seriously that show makes CNReal look good by comparison.

What hurts the most is that they keep airing TTG and the new Ben 10 all day still! If they help this problem, it might get somewhat better.
Also, from what they say about favorite cartoons disappearing, that is happening now with Steven Universe.
I was only 5-6 around this time til 2007 where I was 7-8 and even then I knew CN fell off when those shows ended, Toonami ended, and where they went live action.
I love the noods for nostalgic era
MonsterReview imagine if Cartoon network city comes back but differently
Is it possible if you guys could talk about what CN should plan for 25th anniversary?
Carl Bloke Imo they should literally have an entire week with anniversary bumpers and play at least one episode every show cartoon network has ever had
(not counting the ones that failed hard and sucked like problem solverz and live action)
SuperLemonLime yeah don't forget Johnny Test, mile lu and og, supernoobs, TTG, PPG reboot, my gym partners a monkey and squirrel boy should in no way ever come back on the channel
Sooo true. Hi monster guy Great channel I subed
I love every thing about cartoon network city, they should bring it back
While the CN Real era the worst era even it had a diamond in the rough in the form of Hole in the Wall which in opinion was an amazing game show which I learned years later actually was based off of a Japanese game show of the same name
Now a days I don't watch cartoon network the only cartoons I watch on the network are adventure time, regular show and steven universe
.-. man listening to this 6 years later you guys have no idea how depressing this shit is....we as kids got to watch only something you could ever dream happen.
Thanks! I took a break, but I'm back now.
Anybody remember robotboy
There was live action PROMOS on the classic Cn.. But not live action SHOWS (yet) .
Hey dude nice video! Also when are you gonna do another cartoon fridays?
I wish someone who used to work at cartoon network would upload the all the 3d renderings of the CN City for use to view.
I'm fairly certain that Cartoon Network did not produce most of the City promos. They were made by an animation studio called Animal Logic.

I don't get why this era stopped. It was awesome
Amen
Damn your back
Come back MonstersReview!!!
It been so long since u put up a new video bro
hey you ain't dead
Nostalgia! What an era.

Are you still gonna make videos?
I think you made a stronger argument for the Powerhouse Era.
Boomerang and channels like it devalue the main channel by taking away variety.
Let's be honest Miguzi was not great and was a huge step down from Toonami
Let's be honest Toonami itself had peaked and was slowly declining
Some of the biggest shows were ending
So you made a good argument that the Powerhouse Era was better by showing that it was the peak. Let's be honest everything was downhill from there and it only got worse over time.
+MonstersReview what do you think of the Ben 10 reboot to me it's not terrible i like it better then PPG, and TTG the art style is weird though but I actually don't hate it
How about Total Dramarama ?
SuperLemonLime: Pretty sure SU has a season 6 coming. I do hope it ends at that point. As the saying goes, 6 seasons and then a movie.
@MonstersReview I think DC Nation could of been successful on Cartoon Network if they would of showed at the right time.
