One small little correction. OB Shine juice is 1/3 Alcohol, 1/3 Boiled Linseed oil, and 1/3 Shellac. Not sure anybody is going to get the receipe from this video but if they do it won't turn out right. Very nice project. You may want to notate the correct mixture at that point in the video.
Thanks Mike, I haven’t learned how to make a box and lid to fit yet. I’ll be watching this video again number of times to master the process. Thanks for sharing.
I've been looking for a project like this for one of those rainy summer days. Excellent step-by-step explanation and presentation. Thanks for the inspiration.
That is a lovely little box Mike. I think I shall be trying that one out when the summer has gone and I am back in the workshop. Thanks for the upload. Stay safe in these crazy times.
Loved the picture of sequence you posted. I gave it a screen shot. Also liked the edited voice over VERY professional! I have turned a few of these in years past but it took me so long to think it thru. I will follow your sequence. Your price point cmts were helpful. When I demo for my club I feel I am so slow. This will help me.
Let's face it. You and I will never turn as fast as Nick Cook, Mike Mahoney or Richard Raffan. If you enjoy a steak, why be in too big a hurry to finish the meal. Sometimes it is about the journey.
You said you put on gaiters to keep shavings out of your shoes, what are they and where can i get some. i don’t wear shorts because of the shavings in my shoes. I love your videos, they’ve helped me out a lot. Thanks for the help
Hello Mike. Hope this finds you and yours doing well. I have a turning apparel question for you. I live in the upper Midwest (I used to live in your fine state) and the winters get pretty cold and I turn a lot in the winter. I need to wear a jacket in the winter but I’m always concerned about getting a sleeve caught up in the chuck or between the tool rest and the blank. I wear tight sleeves but I was thinking of trying one of those leather arm protectors that bow hunters use to protect there arms from the bow string… Your thoughts? Do you have a video or something on your web page concerning the topic? If you or your viewers have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated! 😊 Thanks for your time Mike. Ron
Very satisfying for a one hour project, Mike. For your larger, threaded acorns what is the maximum diameter you will thread, and choice of wood? Bernard.
About three inches. I like a dark wood for the husk. I like a lighter figured wood for the bottom. Most any dry domestic hardwood. Large exotics are pricey.
I have a one way chuck for a little larger projects, and I I have pin jaws for smaller projects. I’m kind of looking for something in between the 2 sizes. Do you have any suggestions
I am not familiar with all of the Oneway jaws. I use the Record Power 35mm jaws like these amzn.to/3kz8ZqB on a RP or Nova chuck. Great if you want a 2d chuck.
These are smaller starting at about 2 1/4 square for the lid and about 1 7/8 or so for the base. You can scale up or down but I would not go larger than 3" or wood movent may interfere with the fit.
Hey Mike, I always love to watch your videos, this one especially, nice easy project. I scaled it down to the stock I had. What do you use to determine the scale of lid to box? I kept turning till it looked about right. There is a biblical reference to the acorn . It'll make a nice Christmas gift with the quote inside.
Noted! I appreciate your specific feedback and will reduce the background sound next time as I have frequently done on some other videos but apparently not this one.

wow!! that drill bit is the biggest i've seen! Ha! Cant wait to try one of these boxes. Thanks for sharing. Claire x
It is just 1". Great for making a starting hole on hollow forms. I prefer it over a forster on end grain.
Thanks for showing how to make a nice acorn box. Nice job.
My pleasure, Suzette!
Your videos audio has really improved since this one!! Could not understand you often.but your newer ones are fantastic
Happy to hear that!
Love how you explain each step..
Excellent little project!
Glad you like it!
Always top quality Mike👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Nice have a blessed day

Go for it! You must have a sasonal shop, hot in summer and cold in winter.
Hi Mike , love your work i think you are the tops all the best john from uk
Wow, thanks for saying so, John.
Thanks for another great project, Mike. You make it look so easy!
You bet. Easy but unfamiliar!
Excellent Mike - One of your best explained
Glad you think so, Richard!

Glad you enjoyed it, Gord!
Thanks very much, and thanks for the article on your website regarding how to make sanding paste and wet sanding! Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
Good video, Mike!

Nice and easy, Mike! Good job. Stay safe!
Thanks, you too!
Great video. Being from the South I say "akern" too. Thanks for sharing, I just subbed to your channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thanks for the sub!
i never made one but surely go try it!love the chapes!thanks mike!grtngs from belgium!
Good luck! Thanks for commenting.
I use a spade bit that I have ground down to a rounded dome to cut the inside of a box. I trick I learned at a turning club in the Seattle area.
Maybe I will try that. Thanks.
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!

good job mike i haven't tried a acorn box yet .
What? Get on it my friend.

Surprised you didnt thread the box. Nice work!
I have another video out there on a larger threaded box. This was a more basic box suitable for more viewers.
@@MikePeaceWoodturning I just got threading tools and definitely have this on my to do list.
Great video Mike. Thanks for the tips.

My wife made mine but they look like baby bibs with velcro. Any fairly new kids or grandkids that have recently grown out of them?
so cute, 👍👍, learning from you,😀
Many many thanks

For me the key is tight fitting cuffs.

Great looking box!!! Do you still have your Laguna?
Yes I do!
What are the starting blank sizes?
I make threaded ones typically about the size of my fist. These are probably about 2" diameter for the bottom and perhaps 2 1/2" diam. tops.
Nice project for something quick and simple.👍👍👍👍. But, the akerns (acorns) may be a little too big for the squirrels! 😱
And perhaps that is a good thing! My wife is always chasing the squirrels from the bird feeder!
Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don’t. Mike Peace has turned acorn nuts for you!!👍👍👍👍
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
True that!
Awwww nuts!
Nice box! If you don't mind me asking, what do you sell them for?
I really do not sell them much. They have gone for $75 -$250 at auctions for club and symposium fundraisers. I would price at $150.
I have a one way chuck for a little larger projects, and I I have pin jaws for smaller projects. I’m kind of looking for something in between the 2 sizes. Do you have any suggestions

Was that stock piece about a 3x3?

NoneWhat is the reference? I don't have any set relationship on these boxes. Like you, just turn til it looks right.
ÇOOL
Great video but really bad Audio thanks or sharing
Sorry about that
Helpful video, but when you put the voiceover over the sound of the turning, it's very hard to hear what you're saying.
Noted! I appreciate your specific feedback and will reduce the background sound next time as I have frequently done on some other videos but apparently not this one.
FROZEN MAN. .......
I don't understand.
@@MikePeaceWoodturning its better than burning man.......look it up ...
@@robertanderson3rd53 Got it, thanks. Burning Man is over the top.
Were you aware that there was a Biden ad at the beginning of your great video?
I get different ads placed based on country. I don't care. It all helps support my channel costs.
the sound is bad
Thanks for taking the time to provide input.
