Lyrics:
I said hello I think I'm broken
And though I was only jokin'
It took me by surprise when you agreed
I was tryin' to be clever
For the life of me I never
Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead
You knew all my lines
You knew all my tricks
You knew how to heal that pain
No medicine can fix
And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment that lives on
And the good news is I'm better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you're gone
I dedicate this song to my hubby. Love, my husband, the father of my children. Rest in peace, my love.
Sorry for your loss
So Very sorry for your loss!!! God Bless!!!
THE....most underrated and Amazing band in the last 30 years!!!
Are you a fan of the band ?

Just saw this.....sorry fir the slow response.......TOTALLY agree!!!!
My Girlfriend Jessica passed away in Texas at the age of 31. (September 2022) She was actually clean & sober for a year. She glowed Jesus. However she passed away from Heart Troubles. She wanted to be laid to rest next to her little Brother’s Grave back in Jackson, Tennessee. (Where we first met.) When my Work here is finished & God Almighty calls me home. I will be laid to rest there as well. I always cherish the memories. My only regret is that we didn’t get hitched. I have been a Diamond Rio Fan since I was a Teen. Never heard this song before though. It speaks every thang I feel inside with volumes. Much obliged to Y’all! ✨👏🏻✨❤️🔥
Anybody here in 2020? This song is hauntingly beautiful and lives on in my heart ❤️❤️
Here in 21'
I lost my baby this coming nov.22 I'm ripped apart daily, u would out of your mind if ucan get over your 1 and only love of your life,. The bad news is she's gone
Yes it does 💜
2021
Here in December, 2021. Love this song!
"I said hey I think I'm broken and though I was only joking, it took me by surprise when you agreed" is easily one of the top 3 greatest opening lines to a song. Diamond Rio was and is a great songwriting band. I miss this era of country. I still listen to Hank sr and think WTF happened to country music?
It's as if we share the same brain. My thoughts exactly.
I agree amazing song writing yea man what happened
So many good tracks. Norma jean Riley, Meet in the middle, One more day, Kentucky Mine there are several more I feel like they get overlooked in the GOAT conversation. I definitely think they are up there with some of the best.
Paul Williams wrote the lyric to this song
I looked this song up after watching a Paul Williams interview on RUclips about Paul writing “Rainbow Connection.” At the end of the interview,he talked a little about writing this song, and I just had to hear it. 🥲
You just can't find harmony like this in today's country...these guys are the epitome of beautiful voices blended perfectly together.
Them and restless heart are two of the best harmonizing bands I’ve ever heard.
Ikr
90s country was full of groups that sang in harmony. I think that’s what made them great
Brooks and Dunn
Love the band as it is here. Miss Brian and Gene now that they retired.
As far as country bands go, Diamond Rio, Shenandoah, Blackhawk, and Alabama were my favorites.
On September 18th of this year, my beautiful bride passed. I found this song today, and my heart shattered again. It is hard to live in the shadow of her love! Thank you for making me feel again!
May GOD be with you and bless you ❤
This is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I’ve ever heard. At 2:55 it sounds like someone reached in his chest and squeezed his heart till it burst. Then the instrumentals come in to sweep you into a whirlwind of emotions. Pure genius lyrically, musically, and vocally.
This is a definite accurate comment. This song definitely squeezes every single emotion outta u. I love this song. It randomly popped into my head one night doing a facial & here I'am listening again. It's painful but beautiful!! ♥️
That harmony at 2:53 . I don't know how many times that has triggered a wave of crying out in tears for my wife. Gone 7 years and I miss her more every day. I'm old, I'm tired and I'm ready to go home and lay my head on her chest. Let me rest.
I'm sorry for your loss! Take comfort in knowing that she is always with you and God rest her soul!
I hope you are well, and have found some joy in life. 🖤
I have tears running down my face as I write this, I messed up and lost the love of my life. She found me and bless her heart she pulled me up. I will always love her for that even tho we'll never be together again.😥😢
Be healed in Jesus name
I'm so sorry. ❤️🩹
I hope on the other side you can both have it all again 😢
My brother-in-law died in a car crash one year ago this week, far too soon for a man who was far too young. He was a big man with a bigger heart, a gentle giant who left people around him better for having known him. He touched so many people's lives -- his wife, parents, siblings, and many neices and nephews, not to mention his countless friends. To meet him once was to be his friend, whether you were the server at his favorite restaurant or a customer at his business. And when a customer was just a little short this time, he would still happily do the job as if it were the most important thing he was doing at the time.Things weren't always easy for him; yet he never would complain. That wasn't his way. He didn't want others to be worrying over him.I can't believe it's been a year since the last time we saw him. Time passes quickly, somtimes far too much so.If any good has come from his being gone, it's the constant reminder I have to enjoy the life in front of me, and to make sure I spend some time each day making life better for someone else.Thank you, John for being my brother-in-law and for welcoming me into your family all those years ago.I love you, John and I miss you.
John, it was five years ago today that you left us, and we all think of you a lot. I still love you, and I still miss you. I'll see you again someday.
This song has meant much to me for several reasons over the years. But those reasons pale as I read this beautiful tribute to your brother, John. I will not ever hear this song again without a prayer for you and all who knew John. We will all see each other again in our Home! God bless.
Seeing this 5 yrs after your shared. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for sharing
💙
June 4th 2019 my bride of 30 years passed. Many memories came back after hearing this song again today miss you my love.
This song was on the radio constantly when I was in a pretty dark place. It helped me put everything in perspective and move on. I look back on those days now and realize there was a bigger plan.
Am glad you're safe now, are you a fan of him?
I eventually learned that the ‘bad’ news was good news. God had a different plan for my life.
I just heard them 2 days ago and unfortunately they have so many hits that they now sing this in a medley. Was waiting to hear this played. They sound so good 30+ years on, with Carson playing now, plus they used a backup player on banjo that night, a 16 yr old boy from Dollywood, pretty cool!
Who's here in 2019 watching with me? I will always love this song. I miss good country music
I'm with ya
Country music will never have this much impact anymore. Sad.
One of the best country groups ever.
I am I totally agree with you I miss the good ole country music the real ole country music back in the good old days
Me too.
It's been 3 years since God called you home sweetheart, forever in our hearts love you now and forever your loving wife and son
Hello Sandra how are you doing!!
Sorry about your lost, guess everything is alright? because I believe, he will want you and your son to be happy
I still have no idea how this song only has 2 million views! So much emotion comes over me when I hear it! Forever a remedy for all of the broken hearted!! 😘
Hello Nicole... how are you doing?
Same! It's heartbreakingly beautiful. If that makes sense. So many emotions. I love this song. ♥️🎶🎶♥️
Everytime I hear this, it reminds of my dad who passed away when I was 12. Even though Im 30 now, I still cry for him
I feel you. I lost my grandfather when I was 6. I’m almost 30 now, and I still cry for him
I lost my dad when I was 13 yes old and I agree. My brother committed suicide I. 2011 he was my best friend at that point in life. This song tears me up 💓
I lost my dad, but try to think of the times I was blessed, that I got to have him in my life
I'm so sorry 😢
"And I bless the day I met you and I thank God...." Those words have never meant so much to me as they do now. I know this has a different meaning but we lost our son six years ago three days after turning 22 and it just makes me think of him. I love this group.
Am really sorry about your son, and I believe he is in heaven. Hope you're doing good and do you like Old school songs or country music?
My Mamma passed in 2020. The closest I was ever able to get to her was during the last few months of her life. We always talked on the phone, but lived in different states. But I made several trips to care for her during her last months. I know more about her now than I did when she was alive. I wish so much that she would have opened up to me. I miss our calls. I just miss her so much. She was a beautiful lady and a great mother to four children. She suffered in silence. I love you and miss you so much Mamma!😢❤
you never know what you have til it's gone....
For sure .
true.
Aint that the truth son, she was the best thing to ever happen to me and i just let it go, im only 17 and ik that she was the one, it was love at first sight and now shes gone, thats something that a guy just cant forget ever, im never going to find someone like her
And i wonder if she still thinks of me, if she still cares but mostly if she would ever give me a second chance, i know what i lost and how bad i need her
Amanda Adkins but.....until you've experienced it, you'll never know the difference. God bless
February 9 2021. Lost my wife of 30 years. She took her own life. Ill never know why. I love and miss her so much. This song says so much about us....for everyone who has lost a loved one. My heart goes out to all of you..
Sometimes we never know why people do the things they do, somehow in their minds it seems the only way out at the time. Rest assured your love was a comfort to her, and without the knowledge of that she might have been gone long before.
@@nataliefullmer9928 I don't know who you are. But God bless you and thank you very much for that.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Paul Williams is a genius songwriter!!!! Wish he would write more country songs today!
Are you a fan of Paul Williams
Got to see them in concert last night and they are still amazing!! Love love love them!!
I just saw them last night and you're right . . . they are awesome! This song brought tears to my eyes when they played it.

My favorite Diamond Rio song.... the pain is palpable once I hear it.
Are you a fan of him or you just like this song?
One of the best songs ever. The lyrics and harmonies are unbelievable. Cannot believe they weren’t recognized more for this song. It’s just true artistry.
Diamond Rio has produced many masterpieces, this is no exception
2022 here. With Marty singing and Gene and Dana's harmonies, they just complement each other so well. Throw in Jimmy on guitar. Diamond Rio is one of the best country bands ever.
Wow. If ever there were a song deserving of more views, this would be it. Diamond Rio never got their due as a group, IMO, because Alabama and Brooks & Dunn dominated for so long. But, man, they're really a great group. I hope they're still making music today.
They are still making music today. They have a new album out "I Made It". But sad to say their tours are sad to see. Playing at music festivals & fairs, although they are part of the Country Cruise 14-19 January 2017. Their complete tour schedule is at www.diamondrio.com/site/tourevents/
Lemmy Hetfield II I know right! These guys were great! 10000000000000000x times better than new country!
i miss u
Luke Davis yeah
They also sing gospel now.
As I understand it, the writer of this song was an alcoholic and lost his wife before he got his life together. But is certainly applies to all of us who have lost someone we love.
Don Love Paul Williams wrote this song. The same song writer who wrote Rainbow Connection, We've Only Just Begun, Rainy Days and Mondays, etc.
@DonLove Paul Williams AND John Fenster wrote this after Paul moved to Nashville..Inspiration from the fact both had sobered up after a woman told them good bye..paul talks about it in the video the story behind the song..the Rainbow Connection
To death, and mistakes
My friend it has been a long time since I posted this comment. I'm guessing you are working through a loss of someone special. I am sincerely sorry. My philosophy is that all of us have a certain quota of sadness we need to work through before we can move on. Embrace it. Be sad. Be angry. `Yell at your toaster oven. Share a beverage with the potted plant you never really liked. Walk somewhere you never normally go. Get it out. Someday, I believe, I hope, life will be worth looking forward to. You will use up your sadness quota. And I think you will find something else emotionally to do. But until you get there it really sucks. Good luck my friend.
Dam this is real life for me its been 13 years since she left and im still not over it ..... never will be
my wife of 28 years passed away on nov 6 2019 i have cried everyday she has been gone love and miss you babe

This is a great song. One of my favorites by Diamond Rio. I love the end of the song.
Are you a fan of him
Yes you do I lost someone in Iraq and this group got me through it This song explains it perfectly THank God for Diamond Rio
Hello Cheryl how are you doing!!
This song brings back so many memories. My first love, my best friend, my lover and the father of our children. 16 years gone, but never, ever forgotten. Sending love to heaven. I know your watching over us. We miss you. We love you.
Such a wonderful and lovely song, love listening to his songs the best ever
Hello Erika, how are you doing, hope you good?
I dedicate this to my Late husband 2022. He was a alcoholic but I changed him for the better, he gave it up and gave him a reason to Not drink again! Our only child! R. I. P. My rock!!
This is one of the most touching songs ever. Absolutely beautiful. Diamond Rio had such great talent in both instruments and voices. They had so many great songs that never made it to number 1 because of other great songs by other great musical artists like Reba, Brooks and Dunn and Alan Jackson. Alabama literally ruled the 80's in country music but by the 90's they had been slipping back some and their songs weren't as good as the song they had in the 80's. IMO, Diamond Rio should have had way more number 1 songs than they had.
Guess you're a truly lover of country songs ?
I played this song at my husband's funeral he had a massive heart attack he was 58 years old this is one of his favorite songs he had so many friends he didn't know a stranger and there wasn't a dry eye in that place it was just like they were singing about him 😢
Awww, so sorry about your loss Josephine, I truly understand how it feels losing a loved one. My wife passed while having our daughter, wasn't easy for me though but I'm grateful to God for today 🙏. My deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
Back in the day, this song was everything. From the first moment I heard it til this day. The piano music is the main reason I've always wanted to learn how to play. Ahhhh...so good!!
Piano makes this or any song come alive with emotion
T
Diamond Rio is a masterpiece band👌
such a powerful song I can't listen with out tears coming
Here in mid 2022, this timeless ballad still gets me 😔❤
The end always gives me goosebumps, what a great song
my dad died 21 years ago today, and it still feels like yesterday
Awww, so sorry about your loss Michelle, my deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
this song remind of my mom and dad for the great love they had for each other .
I was in a dark place in my life when I met her. She saved me from my self. We're no longer together after 18 years but we still talk on occasion. This song could not be more of what I did say to her when she found me, life happens, but yes, she's gone.
Refound this song. Thank you 🙏 for making great music. Thank you Paul Williams for writing this.
Our family has lost some very dear ones lately. This one is for you, Peppy... God Bless you, my friend.
JESUS has them please no worries 🙏 .
I love The Music of Diamond Rio. Especially this beautiful song. It helped me get thru losing my Spouse to NSCLC the First week of Nov.2020 ...RIP M.J. We will meet again.
❤
Paul Williams. Genius.
"and the bad news is you're gone" Hits hard
For Sue. I remember how much this song helped you get thru when your Mom passed. Now it’s for you .
I said hello I think I'm broken
And though I was only jokin'
It took me by surprise when you agreed
I was tryin' to be clever
For the life of me I never
Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead
You knew all my lines
You knew all my tricks
You knew how to heal that pain
No medicine can fix
And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment that lives on
And the good news is I'm better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you're gone
Lookin' back it's still surprisin'
I was sinking you were rising
With a look you caught me in mid-air
Now I know God has His reasons
But sometimes it's hard to see them
When I awake and find that you're not there
You found hope in hopeless
Your made crazy sane
You became the missing link
That helped me break my chains
And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment that lives on
And the good news is I'm better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you're gone
The bad news is you're gone
Good song guys. Especially because of the fact that I lost my grandparents and great grandparents And now my cousin named Jim.
Man this song was so powerful to me at the lowest point in my life. Really hit me hard just now.
At 3:11, I love it when Jimmy Olander cuts out on the lead with that acoustic guitar. I just love the sound of lead being played on an acoustic guitar.
I'm thankful for the moments I had, that ill never get back.
Now create new ones! Better ones. Time to say good bye and put to rest when ready. Start over. You're still alive and new memories and beautiful ones are waiting to be made with someone else. This I promise. Time to heal!
I had forgotten about this song and man it is amazing
Hello Vicky... how are you doing?
This song, especially the second verse, reminds me of a girl I was in love with that I lost over a decade ago. Took me years to fully get over her.
I feel the same way and I still haven't gotten over her
We need this level of talent back in country music
Good luck lol
Time flies by but those moments with you are seared into my soul.I will never forget you K.L.S. 08-08-21
Just saw them in concert on Saturday and they played part of this during one of the medleys and they still sound as great as they ever did

Such a powerful song.. amazing harmony..
I have always been a Diamond Rio fan. I sure would like to see them live in concert.
How long have you been a fan ?
They are fantastic live!!!!!❤❤❤❤
This is in my will to play at my funeral. My husband saved me.
I hope you listen to this song many times while you're still alive!
Stephanie Wilson-- um.... if your husband saved you, wouldn't it be kind of backwards to play this at your funeral? Wouldn't you play it at his since he'd done the saving? Jw.
God Bless all of you good people who have good hearts, morals, and love for mankind. I lost my Dad..my hero, my best friend, and a great father and teacher to me 3 years ago. It still hurts each and every day that passes and I wish there was some way to still love him in person. I love you Dad and miss you so much! Bob
I loved your voice back then and Love it now listening to it again. Back then only your voice in the radio and no video and no need to see your face. Your voice spoke to me back then as I t still does now. Angela Italy :)
How does this video only have 1 million views? A hidden gem!
Smiles, hello Patricia 🌺 😊

Diamond Rio is the best..this song always makes me cry since my husband passed in 05...Nobody harmonizes like DR.
Hello Joyce how are you doing!!
this song hit deep I miss my childhood friend Amanda born Oct 12 1981 died July 5 1994 it still hurts 22years later
I remember talking to my buddy Jamie (the male lead in this video) about a month before it came out. He was anxious to see how his friends and family would react.
Just watched them at the Coontry Reporter Festival and DAMN they still got it!!!!!! It was such a great show with impeccable vocals!!! Wishing most were not sitting as I wanted to dance so badly but didn’t want to block the view. Legendary artists!
What a beautiful song
Smiles, so so beautiful Kimberly, feels really great listening, how are you doing? 🌺 😊

This song reminds me that Jennifer is not far away. Even though she been gone since 2007
Whoa brother that's deep... Peace and love to you
Still hits me just as hard in 2021. That’s what you call music.
I dedicate this song to my fiancee that passed love you babe breaks my heart knowing your gone. Going on 3 long years without her 😢😢😢.
I lost my wife 4 years ago to cancer she probably the only reason I'm still here today cant wait to lay next to her again
And I blessed the day I met you. And I thank god that he let you lay beside me for a moment that lives on!!! And the good news is I’m better for the time we spent together. And the bad news is you’re gone!! Yep!! Exactly!!!💔💔
Just lost the best friend I ever had. She didn’t die just made a stupid mistake. Of coarse listening to this song made me weep like a baby But the message is so true. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want them to but you can be thankful for the time you had with somebody because whether it is a good or bad it makes you who you are and you can learn from it. That’s why music will always be so important to me because it teaches these lessons.
I totally forgot this song but this makes think of husband he passed away April 3 2023 I love you dear till we meet again
After my first break up in highschool one of my teachers showed me this song. It hurt but it helped me get over something I couldn't control.
Loved this song when it came out but I'm 53 and lived alot of life sence then and this song really hits me different now. But we have our memories and that a good thing.
