  • Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Josh Gates to react to the news that all five passengers onboard the Titan submersible have been pronounced dead after confirmation that the debris found earlier today was the result of a catastrophic implosion.
Josh firstly sends his best wishes to the families of the victims and also wants to point out how courageous every member onboard was to make such a risky journey into the depths of the ocean and make strides in underwater exploration. Josh however also adds that at some point a conversation must be had about the level of risk management that has taken place and whether CEO Stockton Rush could have done more to prevent a catastrophic incident such as this.

Hi Pierce: The Titanic remains are a memorial for those who died. Separate from Titanic, Titan CEO said that he didn’t hire “50-year-old white guys” with military experience to captain his vessels because they weren’t “inspirational" and that “anybody can drive the sub” with a $30 video game controller. Obviously, the CEO is ignorant of facts and even history. Reflecting on WW II and recent events with submarines, he should have taken more care and diligence in creating a submersible by combining expertise with innovation. I find his remark insulting to all the servicemen who risked and gave their life serving on military submarines-these submariners are heroes. The Titan "explorers" are not heroes, they made a bad choice and risked their lives to look at a memorial in an unsafe contraption without training and sufficient knowledge about the risk. Their trip was not educational or respectful to the Titanic's final resting place and remains.

I think he killed several people and he exposed many and he was willing to take risks. How can such a person be allowed to continue? But now he is dead and no one is well-versed who has a little brain and understands risks. Check the titanium cone when it was put there. Not even great fit and 2 inch overhang? It was supposed to be 7 inches and became 5 inches and how did that go? Even if it was 7 inches, they would probably get stuck or have a technical fault so they would remain there for 4-5 days until they died and it would take weeks to get the bodies stuck in this home construction. Now there are people who take big stupid risks sitting on shelves . How much has this cost and killed a 19 year old as well.

As for the Titan submersible, 1) No hatch, 2) No depth certification, 3) No back up submersible. Even the Russian Mir submersibles were operated in tandem so there would be one vessel to support the other in the event of an emergency. They were also certified to a depth of 6000m.
At 400 miles out to sea, you’re essentially on your own.

If there weren't adventurers we would never have left the caves in which we used to dwell. While I myself wouldn't have had the courage to do that extreme of an adventure, I think society does need the type of people that seek out the extreme and take those dangerous paths. It's because of them that we have airplanes, trains, boats, cars, horse carriages, and even fire. I think that there should have been more consideration about the wear and tear of multiple dives with that submersible and I really don't think that multiple members of a family should ever be allowed to jointly do anything as risky as this adventure was and certainly no one under age 21.
