@@FlowersForYourGrave I also saw this, it's an article from NBC news, Apparently his dad wanted to spend time with him for father's day so he wanted to please him.. :(
I don’t think it’s about people questioning their courage, it’s more about questioning why you’d ever go that deep in a vessel that’s not certified for anything.
Well I think they had done testing, it wasn't exactly like "oh hey lets build a sub and see how it goes" but it wasn't as tried and tested as some of the long standing methods.
Courage turns into foolishness and innovativeness turns into recklessness when you ignore the warnings of engineers and mock experienced designers. Risk turns into manslaughter when you take customers with you. I understand the warm words but this disaster would have been completely avoidable if ocean gate listened to the engineers and hired a team based on skill and experience.
It’s hard to acknowledge the captain’s spirt of innovation & exploring after finding out that he deliberately ignored safety concerns from the diving community and even threatened to sue if they don’t stop with raising concerns! Foolishnesses should be called out especially when people’s lives are at risk !!
He is a liar. He has done 10 PAID interviews and changed his story every time. He originally said the sub was a coffin and he knew everyone would die and that's why he didn't go on this trip.
Lmao he's some goofy lazy phat ass dude that goes to "explore and discover" what other groups recently found being carried by them by the hand all the way then goes eat some of the local meals in a nice hotel and goes back home and his editors make all the work to do an entertaining show. He doesn't risk shit.
Did he? I didn't even bother to listen. What you mean is that it is so rare for Morgan not to speak instead of his guests. You genuinely wonder why he bothers inviting them.
Hi Pierce: The Titanic remains are a memorial for those who died. Separate from Titanic, Titan CEO said that he didn’t hire “50-year-old white guys” with military experience to captain his vessels because they weren’t “inspirational" and that “anybody can drive the sub” with a $30 video game controller. Obviously, the CEO is ignorant of facts and even history. Reflecting on WW II and recent events with submarines, he should have taken more care and diligence in creating a submersible by combining expertise with innovation. I find his remark insulting to all the servicemen who risked and gave their life serving on military submarines-these submariners are heroes. The Titan "explorers" are not heroes, they made a bad choice and risked their lives to look at a memorial in an unsafe contraption without training and sufficient knowledge about the risk. Their trip was not educational or respectful to the Titanic's final resting place and remains.
The real tragedy here is the 19 year old that only went because his dad wanted him to go, that sucks... Always listen to your instincts and make your own decisions
I suspect in Pakistani culture (as in many) there is too much expectation to please your parents as an adult instead of being the autonomous person you are.
It was a quick painless death…..they wouldn’t have even seen or felt it coming. Knowing that gives me some comfort as opposed to dying with lack of oxygen and in complete darkness.
he told them the risk and the 250.000 dollar is not even profit for the firm, they are still in debt. this is just great men who dont wanna be NPCs and see stuff
Big fan of Josh Gates in Expedition Unknown. So glad he went with his intuition. I’m an even bigger fan after this interview. He is a man of integrity & so cool of him to pay his respects for his fellow explorers ❤
Man Josh Gates is a stand up dude, he avoided saying anything bad or negative about the people who passed away or the situation that led to their death. He gave them all praise and defended the spirit of exploration.
I have a list of my top 10 favorite public figures in the world. Really its in no particular order but Josh Gates is at the top of that list. He's one of my idols and literally the real life Indiana Jones. His dedication to the spirit of adventure and exploration is so inspiring. I got to meet him when he came to Joshua Tree and it was literally like talking to an old teacher or friend. I absolutely love this dude man. His work has changed my life.
Respect nature. This is not about exploring and being courageous. This is about being reckless and impatient, not listening to solid advice and taking shortcuts to safety measures which are very questionable.
I agree but I also wonder how much they paying regular civilians know that there was potentially a lot of errors and a lot of risk going into this because of the machine not because of anything else because how much would just a regular person know about a submersible?
I agree with you , but as long as they did not put others in danger only themself I do not care. What I have a problem with is people like that do stuff and then something happens and others have to risk their life to help and /or find that. THAT is what I hate. If someone wants to dive to the Titanic and stays there, his choice, someone climbs a mountain someone happens, his choice. But do not ask others to risk their life and waste a lot of money and time on you. I do not want to know how much this all now costs
@@LauraEllen999 see that wire going in his ear? that's the producer telling him what to say, and when to wrap it up, so what he really wants to say we will never know.
An engineer voiced his concerns because the CEO would only pay for a view portal certified up to 1200 meters. The CEO didn't want to pay for a viewport that was rated for the titanic depth of 4000 meters. He was fired and sued. This is all on carelessness, corner cutting, and being cheap.

It seems doubtful that is true. It is true that engineer had concerns, but throughout that - and the court proceedings etc, the chief engineer, Tony Nissen remained with the project. Tony was ex-Navy for over 20 years. It seems unlikely that he would sign off on a weak porthole window.

When you do something super dangerous with a high risk of death and your doing it for a trivial reason or no reason at all. It's basically disrespectful to God who gave you a long life to live.
If I was a multi-millionaire and wanted to go see the Titanic wreck I would pay to build my own submarine that I was 100% certain was competently designed and constructed. If I was going in someone else's submarine I would hire engineers and experts to verify those requirements were satisfied. Being an explorer doesn't mean being stupid.
There's a difference between "taking a risk" and just ignoring all of the obvious blatant risks staring you in the face, like the risks associated with this untested, unproven, uncertified carbon fiber vessel. Pure negligence.
As I understand it, the carbon fiber was supposed to be 7 inches thick but he changed it to 5 inches and he only wanted young people around him who were YES sayers. He didn't listen to the experts who warned about this in 2018. He fired two who thought there wasn't enough security. No aircraft or submarine would be approved. I think he killed several people and he exposed many and he was willing to take risks. How can such a person be allowed to continue? But now he is dead and no one is well-versed who has a little brain and understands risks. Check the titanium cone when it was put there. Not even great fit and 2 inch overhang? It was supposed to be 7 inches and became 5 inches and how did that go? Even if it was 7 inches, they would probably get stuck or have a technical fault so they would remain there for 4-5 days until they died and it would take weeks to get the bodies stuck in this home construction. Now there are people who take big stupid risks sitting on shelves . How much has this cost and killed a 19 year old as well.
As a dive master, I’ve always told new divers that if any dive is beyond your comfort zone, walk away. It’s a recreation, not an endurance test. As for the Titan submersible, 1) No hatch, 2) No depth certification, 3) No back up submersible. Even the Russian Mir submersibles were operated in tandem so there would be one vessel to support the other in the event of an emergency. They were also certified to a depth of 6000m. At 400 miles out to sea, you’re essentially on your own. Stop defending Ocean Gate as a company which prioritised safety. If you have $250,000 to spend on a dive, it would have been worth paying more for a safer option.
If they had had an identical back up sub diving in tandem with the first one, if anything it could've cost double the lives while solving nothing. Because the design of the Titan was deeply flawed to begin with.
@@francesco245 In this case 50/50 possibility depending on the number of dives & condition of the vessel. If successful, it could have at least saved the costs of the search and the 4 days of agony the families had to suffer.

No matter how much vision or 'innovative spirit' the manager personally had, the fact is he also had a total responsibility to the people who paid him massive amounts to give them a safe trip in vessels he alone had constructed - and as is being revealed now, this vessel didn't even have a rescue beam on it or other way of even being tracked in case of trouble. I think a call to 'admire' that sort of management, is beyond the pale.

IMO the company itself took advantage of those wealthy individuals. They are responsible for this. You may have your own interests that drive you to go further to enjoy it, so did those other people. They trusted OceanGate to be who they claimed to be just like we trust a bus driver or airline pilot.
It was criminal, full stop. The CEO lied about the degree to which NASA, Boeing, universities, etc. were involved with his doomed project. He was a crook, let's not be shy about it.
Or it signifies ignorance & stupidity. This could have been avoided with the proper equipment he didn’t even give them a chance literally sent them to their deaths. After multiple failed trips in the past he hardly upgraded or changed anything and was just doing money grabs. Super shady to list them as crew members instead of passengers so you can skip safety inspections and still do the dive with actual passengers who aren’t crew members or know how to operate the machine as he had them listed and signed off as in the contract. Has absolutely nothing to do with the titanic like you want it to sorry
Same stuff. Same result. Except far less victims, but a tragedy is not a single persons fate, it is a sign for something much wider, it is about society, their values, the disregard and the result shows in what happens to individuals, never mind the number! It will happen again, and again...until understood and solved. It happend with NASA, it happend with other lost vessels, with aircrafts BOEING MAX f.i., they knew before....
As an Ironworker , we have our own dangers and risks . But one thing we always talk about , on and off the job >> “Shortcuts, cut life short” I live by that.
I don't think courage and fortitude when it trumps mature decision-making is something to be admired. Courage coupled with wisdom is much more to be admired.
I've always been a fan of Josh Gates, but the way he spoke on this tragedy gained more of my respect. So much heart, and respect and honor for those lost. Thank you for being so well spoken and speaking from your soul.
It doesn’t worth to go down 12000 feet, no diver can go beyond 4000 feet, there’s no safety unless you decide to gamble in your life (live or die). It’s 100 percent risk
It is so sad for the teenager, he was so scared , he must of been so scared RIP ... my deepest sympathy to all the families , my heart is with you ❤ from canada
I understand the warm words but its not just about bravery, its about how ignoring safety measures can risk not just the passengers but the rescuers lives just to bring them back. The story of Titanic tragedy should have taught us the lessons to prioritize safety and heed warning signs, red flags, but ironically, as being Titanic enthusiasts and having more knowledge about the sinking of Titanic, they seemed to have ignored once again, warning signs and safety measures that resulted to catastrophic death of the passengers and the captain himself aboard that sub. Such a tragic event.
Much as I agree with all the words of sadness, I must also agree that, often as not, such tragic events, which need not have happened, remind me that those who disregard their own safety by engaging in adventurous but dangerous pursuits are less worthy of our sympathy than those they put at risk in their efforts at saving them.
Josh Gates has impressed me with how he’s chosen to speak on this. It’s very respectable. There is one thing I know, some incredible lives were lost. I, for one, do not believe Stockton Rush falls in that category because of his ego but I still feel for his friends and family. All their friends and family.
Cameron said it all . This happen when you put your life in wrong hands . Sub went down numerous times so tiredness of material under the enormous pressure was great each time .New material for this purpose , obviously was risk . They chose to ignore that fact , and that costs lives .
I agree. Sometimes we trust people with our lives. We have to be accountable to that. We live and learn. I've got a son in the grave. That tragedy taught me that I would never risk it with my boy. He can see it another way. Bringing his son along was selfish
I highly question the use of carbon fibre. There’s a reason carbon fibre isn’t used on subs. It’s strong in certain planes, but brittle in others. Compression of the carbon fibre would likely have weakened it.
@Jesusislord-hd7feamen!!! ALL I can think about!!! 🥹. Where are the souls of these 5 men today? Life is so fragile!! God Almighty giveth life and takes it away !!
Bit of a hypocrite though. Man backs off from Titan because he knew it was deathtrap, but is sickened by all the people on social media who express their opinions on how stupid it was to get into a deathtrap? Sure, lot of people are being insensitive in how they express it, but tough shit, words don't kill, imploding subs built by an egomaniac who thought he knew better than decades of safety regulations written in blood do.
I know this guy is friends with the people in the submersible and trying to defend them but let's see it as it is. It is a stupid move. If it was done for humankind's advancement then great but they went there to just flex at this point. I am not a heartless person but let's not paint them as heroes..it is a slap on the face of real heroes
I love Josh Gates! I am a scuba instructor who dives in the puget sound near Everett every month. If he didn’t want to go that deep in the Titan there clearly was a reason. So sad, my heart goes out to the families💔
Of all the people I have heard speak to this sad event, Josh Gates is without a doubt the most eloquent and direct in his opinion. If there weren't adventurers we would never have left the caves in which we used to dwell. While I myself wouldn't have had the courage to do that extreme of an adventure, I think society does need the type of people that seek out the extreme and take those dangerous paths. It's because of them that we have airplanes, trains, boats, cars, horse carriages, and even fire. I think that there should have been more consideration about the wear and tear of multiple dives with that submersible and I really don't think that multiple members of a family should ever be allowed to jointly do anything as risky as this adventure was and certainly no one under age 21.
Dont glorify this. It wasnt an "scientific" expedition. Its a tourist destination. The ocean gate should be SUED and permanently shut down. Idiot rush used a wireless ps3 controller, home depot and airplane parts for his trash bucket. The guy LIED in his own website saying the sub was safe at 4k meters when it was only certified for 1.3k meters. All for a quick buck! He was even know to hire college grabs. Inexperienced staff all to save money and avoid whitlseblowers. (Which he fired and sued, the last whistle blower) guy was scum of the earth. Needlessly put peoples lives at risk all for money

I’m so sorry they have died. To be honest I’m comforted hearing that it was a implosion because my hope is that they didn’t even know what happened. For me watching my fellow passengers suffering and gasping for breath , would have been horrific!!! I just hope they had no idea!
I avoided the story when they were talking about banging sounds, couldn't bear the thought of them knowing their fate but trying desperately to survive. Hearing they likely died instantaneously in a implosion was a relief. It's obviously awful when someone dies but here in Ireland we would find comfort in a 'good death' rather than something painful and drawn out.
They wouldn't have been gasping for breath if the air ran out. The cabin would have filled with carbon dioxide and they would have fallen asleep and died peacefully. Although I agree the terror of waiting helplessly until that happened would be torturous. Thankfully they didn't have to go through that.

Well said & well handled Josh Gates. Deepest sympathies to the families of those who were lost. Exploration requires risk, but also the wisdom to weigh those risks with safety and possible outcomes.
Cameron had a lot to say about the safety of the vessel, something he warned people about before too. Carbon fibre is the wrong material for a hull. That has been proven. The owner didn't care.... Negligence through and through
5 people voluntarily lock themselves in an uncertified sub, then decide to go to depths military submarines wouldn’t dare to, it’s a sad loss but the ocean remains undefeated
I love Josh for bringing respect to these individuals today. Risk is different for everybody and these five individuals went in that submersible thinking they would come out. Categorising these people like they were doing great things for humanity and so brave and courageous is an absolute joke. They were thrill seekers with too much money whose recklessness has led to the death of five people, one being a young boy with his whole life ahead of him.
The guest is calling the "entrepreneur" who came up with this deadly scheme "a great visionary". What???? This was a reckless scheme. Using a vessel that has not gone through proper engineering tests to go down to 12,000 feet is suicidal. It is not "visionary". The guy was not "an explorer". But yes, he indeed was a businessman.

I also wonder what's the fascination with Titanic? She's resting at the bottom of Atlantic ocean for over 100 years - if people would just leave her alone. It's like going to someone's grave and digging it up.
It’s not courageous to jump off a cliff with no parachute or ropes, nor to try and go down to the Titanic in a submersible that’s been told by experts to be a death trap.
"Arnie Weissmann, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, initially agreed to join the June expedition, the Washington Post reports, but backed out at the last minute due to a scheduling conflict. A May dive he was supposed to go on also was canceled due to bad weather. A conversation he had with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush the night before the expedition, however, still haunts him to this day. According to Weissmann, Rush had bought the carbon fiber used to make the Titan "at a big discount from Boeing," because "it was past its shelf life for use in airplanes." In other words, Rush knew that the carbon fiber - which is a very poor choice of material for a deepsea vessel, as many experts have pointed out - already potentially had flaws that could've played a role in the Titan's tragic demise." - courtesy of Futurism *At some point those who had conversations with the Mad Hatter should have analyzed themselves. I really appreciated this gentle, kind man's,caring words for those who died, and their families.

Yep. Not certified. Foolish risk.
Yep you’re right.
And on top of that taking a 19 year old with you
As I understand it, the carbon fiber was supposed to be 7 inches thick but he changed it to 5 inches and he only wanted young people around him who were YES sayers.

I think that there should have been more consideration about the wear and tear of multiple dives with that submersible and I really don't think that multiple members of a family should ever be allowed to jointly do anything as risky as this adventure was and certainly no one under age 21.

no it didn't stupid people earn stupid rewards.
Cameron had a lot to say about the safety of the vessel, something he warned people about before too. Carbon fibre is the wrong material for a hull. That has been proven. The owner didn't care....
Negligence through and through
5 people voluntarily lock themselves in an uncertified sub, then decide to go to depths military submarines wouldn’t dare to, it’s a sad loss but the ocean remains undefeated
may as well have gone down there in a 44 gallon drum with a garden hose for a snorkel for all the good it did
Yep
@Jesusislord-hd7feumm, ok. Thanks.
@Jesusislord-hd7feseriously...shut up
What about the people that went down there in the exact same sub prior ? I guess the ocean has been defeated.
I love Josh for bringing respect to these individuals today. Risk is different for everybody and these five individuals went in that submersible thinking they would come out. Others went on same tour and came out but unfortunatly they didn't. We get on airplanes and are lucky because things can go wrong. Life can change in seconds. We are all blessed and life is precious.
planes actually have to pass safety testing, not even close to the same...
@@armondhammer9only after years of operating and accidents were they then required to have regulations.
Don't cherry pick history to match your argument
Really appreciate your empathetic take on things, I viewed all of this the same way. I truly can’t believe some of the cruel comments, jokes, ETC, that I’ve came across this entire time. It was definitely risky, but having been successful that many times before gave them false confidence. The CEO was also a very good salesman (unethical) who failed to provide critical accurate data, & downplayed every risk.
Others risked their lives trying to rescue a crew that the co-founder knew had possibly imploded. They searched for 4 days.
@@topofthemorning6832 That's exactly what you just did
Josh, you have so much integrity, and I tip my hat to you for your not commenting about James Cameron's many comments about this. I am a huge fan of yours, and you are a class act! Your remarks completely noteworthy.
Josh, what a beautiful interview. Well done for putting perspective on this moment in time and for not participating in the social media vomit, the world seems to love so much. Let’s show reverence for the moment and respect for the families who have lost loved ones.
Agreed.
Yes, I love Josh Gates!
@MARKOPOLO876 It is a rare treat to read such a deep and thoughtful comment.
Tragic, I really appreciate Josh's sensitive take on such a sad outcome. Wonderful interview, Piers. Explorers are by their very nature risk takers
its not a sensitive take. except the part where he felt it was not for him due to the incredible risk. the whole project were insane hubris
Yes but you don’t take paid adventurers with you if you don’t take all the right certified tests.
Explorers? No. Gullible tourists? Yes.
Risk taking doesn't have to be unsafe. The riskier a venture is the more safety measures should be put in place to balance the risks not less.
This is a man that does incredible "risky" things. But backing away from being on that submersible shows how he had alarm bells going off.
It is experience, the inner self was aware of the danger, because he did incredible dangerous tasks.
From there, the alarm bells!!
Agree 100% He's the closest thing to a real life Indiana Jones, so if he won't do it then noone should ( in my opinion)
He actually did go down in it though, so he's still stupid in my opinion
@@amystewart311How far down did he go ? Did he say ?
@@Tgif1111 yeah he said he went deep enough to see the titanic!
I've been a fan of Josh Gates for years. This interview shows he is a genuine person and probably one of the most classy people ever.
He definitely shows it!
I deeply respect Josh Gates!! He is clear and unbiased and I’m sure, as a fellow explorer, his heart is hurting over the loss of these men.
My heart breaks for the families and especially for the 19 year old. 💔
*Spare us the predictable, pointless and vapid comments, fool.*
Youngster had so many more years ahead of him. Tragic loss for all 5.
They chose that risk
Father should have had more sense - he put his child in danger.
I'm honestly lost for words
For those who think Titan and Oceangate were/are about pushing boundries, exploration and discovery, wake up! This was only about 250k a head. SHAME on Oceangate! Deep, DEEP SHAME!
True. They’re trying to push this narrative of them being explorers. They were billionaires on a joyride.
The price of a house, seems pretty expensive to me.
Pft 250k is nothing. I get that is a lot of money to some people. But in the scheme of things 250grand isn't a lot if money.
The exploration was already done countless times decades ago. This was a VERY expensive suicide mission/thrill ride and completely unnecessary. Diving to those depths can never be routine. More people have been to outer space than down to those depths.
You're rediculous
This poor father and son should've never been on this death trap. I hope the victim's families sue this company out of existence.
*victims' families
That was a great interview, I have enormous admiration for Josh. Thanks Piers.
Josh - "I think these people were incredibly brave."
Everyone else - " This was incredibly unsafe & risky."
Don't test mother nature...mother nature usually wins and the few who do survive are luckier than a lottery winner.
Get a grip.
Most “people” just hate on them because they’re billionaires and they’ve been trained to hate them.
The simple truth is
Rich people paid a lot of money for a risky exploration trip, and paid the price.
Its as simple as that.
And yes you’d have to pretty brave to go down there. That doesn’t equal smart. But they knew the risk.
@Jesusislord-hd7feyes!!!
Dude was definitely way off base here.
But then again it sounded like him and old Stockton Rush were pretty good chums. In which case he really shouldn't have been brought on to comment on as a field expert.
@Jesusislord-hd7fe Hey, Jesus. You're in the wrong room. The revival meeting is down the hall. Tell your friends.
All these risk takers stick together. I feel sorry for the poor people who paid their dollar and assumed they were safe.
From everything being made public regarding the submersible itself and the company that owned it, it is a matter of profound criminal negligence.
Courageous ? It's called stupidity not courage.
Dad trusted Capitan, kid trusted dad...
Agent 47 strikes again
the 19 year old threatened to massacre people
Can't even begin to imagine....
But they all were mad,for not doing their homework well
capitan trusted boat
The young lad didn't want to go ,he should have trusted his instincts and told his father to get lost.
who said that
Could've had a Ferrari instead 🤦🏻
@@adZHARRISONpiers other video bro.
The father should have respected his sons decision.
The survivor's guilt may have been detrimental to his mental health for the rest of his life. We don't know. May they rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy for the family, prayers, and comfort to the families. Prayers from South Africa
There is a definite demarcation between courage and ignorance.
RIP to the passengers of Titan, I hope the families find closure in this tragic news.
If I was their family I'd be mad that when they noticed the sub was in trouble they didn't open the door and swim to the surface.
@@R-Lee-I highly doubt they had warning, it happened in milliseconds. And it’s not physically possible to swim from that deep to the surface.
@@R-Lee- it was bolted shut from the outside by 18 bolts...they lost coms 1 hour and 45 mins in and it takes 2 hours to get to the bottom so they were like 11000 feet below the surface. crazy how people comment on stuff and they know nothing.
@@GamerBadooski okay well they should have took a saw or something to cut their way out
@@R-Lee- that's not how that works. Cutting a hole with a saw would have instantly made the sub implode at that depth
I commend Josh Gates in this interview and how he approached it and being sensitive to the family members during this time. 😔 this is very heart breaking 💔
RIP to the passengers and crew of the Titan. Thank you to all the international and various levels of resources who stepped up to assist. Condolences to the families, remaining crew members. A tremendous loss.
Condolences also to the many, many people involved in trying and hoping for a better outcome than this very sad one. I am sure they feel a loss too.
Yes, but I wish they would not do this only for millionaires on a very silly adventure, but for human beings seeking a place to live! Drowning by thousands! Problems caused by corruption and politics! Plus a total unfair share of living conditions, abuse for other peoples enormous gains plus the ruining of self support by import schemes that enrich those that play la-di-da with their lives!
This guy is upset by social media calling out the stupidity of getting in this vessel --- after HE HIMSELF was uncomfortable getting into that vessel. It's not courage, it's stupidity!
My hearts goes out to all the victims and their families. I especially feel for that little boy who didn’t get the chance to grow up and carry his father legacy. Rip I love you all
Come on now, 19-year-old "little boy"
That was a grown man
Categorising these people like they were doing great things for humanity and so brave and courageous is an absolute joke. They were thrill seekers with too much money whose recklessness has led to the death of five people, one being a young boy with his whole life ahead of him.
@Jesusislord-hd7feTroll
agreed!
True
The guest is calling the "entrepreneur" who came up with this deadly scheme "a great visionary".
What????
This was a reckless scheme.
Using a vessel that has not gone through proper engineering tests to go down to 12,000 feet is suicidal.
It is not "visionary". The guy was not "an explorer". But yes, he indeed was a businessman.
In my state, a person under the age of 21 cannot sign a contract and be held to it. So I don't understand how a 19 year old was able to sign a liability waiver that mentioned the word "death" 3 time on the first page!.
Crazy, Foolish, Irresponsible, Reckless, are words that come to mind. At the end of the day people can do what they want with their own lives.
call it what you want , at the end of the day what is life worth living for if I am gonna coward behind just surviving it which in the end no one does
And repeat the same thing again and again.
I also wonder what's the fascination with Titanic?
She's resting at the bottom of Atlantic ocean for over 100 years -
if people would just leave her alone. It's like going to someone's grave and digging it up.
It’s not courageous to jump off a cliff with no parachute or ropes, nor to try and go down to the Titanic in a submersible that’s been told by experts to be a death trap.
British have been doing that for hundreds of years.
According to Weissmann, Rush had bought the carbon fiber used to make the Titan "at a big discount from Boeing," because "it was past its shelf life for use in airplanes."
In other words, Rush knew that the carbon fiber - which is a very poor choice of material for a deepsea vessel, as many experts have pointed out - already potentially had flaws that could've played a role in the Titan's tragic demise." - courtesy of Futurism
*At some point those who had conversations with the Mad Hatter should have analyzed themselves. I wouldn't have needed a full convo with that dude to understand he was INSANE . Showing me the remote; I'M NOT GOING. Showing me the on/off switch; I'M NOT GOING. Telling me "safety is a waste"; I'M NOT GOING annnd I'm reporting you to the proper authorities. Folks that rode in that joant after sitting through what THEY obviously interpreted as a serious, intellectual, PROFESSIONAL discussion with the NEW Jim Jones are the ones more mental than HIM* !
I especially feel for the 19 year old and his mom. 🥺💔💔💔
I was saying to my family as we faithfully watch Expedition Unknown if Josh and his team had ever considered something with the Titan Sub. Some of the expedition’s they take on look extremely dangerous, hearing what Josh said is ominous. Our thoughts and prayers are with the gentleman and their families🇨🇦
My great-grandfather went down on the Titanic and I would love to see it. However if Josh Gates won't go down in that sub then that would be good enough for me. He is one of the bravest men I have ever seen. Glad you had him on Piers.
And this why I love Josh Gates! Nicely said.
Absolutely love any of the series that Josh hosts on exploring/etc. Condolences to all the families of the 5 men after such a horrific tragedy we’ve all watched unfold these past 5+ days.
@MARKOPOLO876
I only needed 249,999 dollars more and I would have been in that submersible. Boy am l lucky.
Anybody who read a book about submersibles submarines and saw him using a game controller would have backed out. There is a history there and thousands of people have died in those.
Brave for going into a vessel that has problems and not certified by anyone except the CEO. Not even a whistleblower could stop that guy
@Jesusislord-hd7fe so Trump will be saved because his favorite book 📖 is the Bible? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All of the experienced people who would've told him: "Wait. This is far too dangerous and must be improved"
~Are the very people he refused to hire. He hired nothing but yes-men!
I've even read that the windows were only safety-tested to 4,000 feet! If this is true, this is negligent homicide.
James Cameron is 100% correct. Stop making excuses for the hubris of the CEO. He's negligent and responsible for those deaths. I'm certain the tourists wouldn't have been on that death trap if they knew the truth.
Very true!
The CEO even lied about the degree to which NASA, Boeing, famous universities, etc. were involved with his doomed project. He wrongly used the names of these reputable institutions to try and gain the trust of his potential customers. He was a crook, let's not be shy about it.
I remember watching a documentary Ghost of the Abyss by James Cameron and the mini-submarines that they used there were so expensive that the cheapest component was wort 250 thousand dollars compare that with these submarine.
Diving to that dept is not a game being this reckless cannot go without this type of calamity.
they should arrest the CEO immediately!!!!!!!!! oh wait he was on it and died.
The fact that it was said the son didn’t even want to go makes me SO sick! I believe he probably didn’t want to go just probably went because they who was suppose to go backed out! They were all old he still had all his life!!!
He wasn’t forced or anything. He got in that submersible at free will. So stop analyzing based on what people might have said and let explorers be explorers with the accompanied risk of dying in the process. I admire their bravery.
He was 19 years old.
@@AF-vm6xx It’s not what people might have said! It came out of the mouth of the person he told!!! What 19 year old wants to go do something like that with a bunch of old dudes!? He went for his dad!
