Between Bob Odenkirk, Glenn Howerton, and Key & Peele, it's so obvious this show is meant as a dark comedy. It just keeps getting funnier as things go horribly awry.
The Fargo Crime Syndicate headquarters is located in a building called "The Showalter Block," a reference to Steve Buscemi's character, Carl Showalter, from the original film.
I think this might be my favorite episode of the season, for two reasons. 1) The cliffhanger of the last episode is SO stressful, because I think anyone invested in the show by that point would be devastated by the thought that Molly is killed, let alone by way of an accident committed by Gus. And her surviving doesn't feel unearned. The way she bounces back so quickly, and the fact she has not a shred of resentment towards Gus for what happened. It's so well executed. 2) Lester's character arc I think becomes firmly established here. The Coen Brothers put a lot of biblical allegory into their projects, and Lester feels like the story of Job, but in reverse. With Job, God and the Devil take away every good thing he has so God can prove that he's still a good man. With Lester, the Universe seems to be rewarding him every time he makes an evil decision, so of course he's going to sink deeper and deeper into darkness. It's really apparent as the season goes on, and it's super interesting.
@@nateg3998 That's what is amazing about Fargo, the subtle complexity. Noah Hawley is a genius. His tv series Legion is amazing for the same reason. He's doing a show set in the Alien universe, which sounds PHENOMENAL.
@@ghostsurfer23 He seems like the absolute perfect person to take on the Alien universe to me. Losing it compromises your immune system and you'll need pneumonia vaccinations periodically for the rest of your life, but you can get along fine without it. Ruptured spleen is a common injury in automobile accidents.
Charbli Dean from Triangle of Sadness died last year of Sepsis that could have been better fought if she hadn't lost her spleen in a car accident years before. The spleen, while you can live without it, is far more important than your appendix.
The opening credits for this episode is legit one of my favorite things in all TV. The music, his brother screaming, then all the sound drops out, he screams again and then that huge note when the credits come up. It's so good
All the cops looking at Lester's brother as he is taken to county jail reminds me of the phrase, there is no use arguing with someone that thinks they are always right..😐
Nice! I highly recommend the 1975 spy thriller 3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR, with Robert Redford as a CIA analyst who goes on the run after his colleagues are gunned down and must try to figure out what's going on and try to figure out who to trust before it's too late. Directed by Sidney Pollack, with Faye Dunaway, Max Von Sydow and Cliff Robertson.
Lester was a really nice person, but his brother's disrespect , being bullied for decades by his high school tormentor , and having a wife who's a vile c word made him snap. It's their fault they created this monster that lorne unleashed.
@@darensparks Not at all. Lester's vile, a vindictive, petty person who only cares about himself, but he's gotten by so far through meekness and a desire to not rock the boat. Now that's he's gotten a taste of power, of control, of revenge, he embraces that fully. It empowers him, elevates him; he gets as much satisfaction from it as Malvo does from his work. That's the thematic crux of this season (and sort of the whole Fargo project as a whole). If you're not convinced now, there are two decisions he makes in the coming episodes that spell it out clearly.
@@michaellaporte4951 I've seen all the episodes before, but it doesn't change my opinion at all. Lester clearly became the sociopath he is at this point because of how everyone treated him. Think about it he looks to be at least in his early 40's when the show starts and he had never committed a crime. However all the people I referenced kept pushing him , especially an awful bitch of a wife like he had. Lester never even told lorne to kill the bully malvo did it for his own amusement. People do not need a spleen to live a normal, healthy life. However, the spleen performs some important tasks, such as filtering the bloodstream and helping the body fight infection. People who do not have a spleen are urged to take certain precautions, such as getting vaccinated against preventable diseases, including influenza (flu). Someone without a spleen is at increased risk of severe, or even deadly, infections from encapsulated bacteria. Fortunately, vaccines significantly decrease the risk of these infections, and are available against the most common types. People without a functional spleen are advised to keep a full course of antibiotics on their person at all times.

This was originally the point in the season where I started to get really annoyed with Lorne Malvo as a character. Going through these comments now, I've seen some people suggest that Malvo is less of an actual human being and more of a force, whether a stand in for the Devil or just some other such embodied evil.
