That is why I will not get rid of my 2001 and 2002 7.3 diesel superduties. They have been running great for decades. These new trucks are way overpriced and overcomplicated for no reason.. You don't need a window module to open it along with the other 40-plus module to run the truck.

Man I can 109% agree on the trans! I have the 2021 f600 with the 7.3 Godzilla. Trans shifts hard as hell. I have had my truck lurch forward a good foot sitting at a stop light in drive with my foot on the brake. Almost like it decides to down shift from 5th to 1st after you’ve stopped. It’s a dog pushing snow, I am going to have to try it in manual shift I guess.

My anxiety of diesel engine derating because of EPA requirements increases as the miles add up with a travel trailer. I switched to the 2023 Godzilla and never looked back. The Godzilla with 10 speed is a perfect match for me. Also, the Godzilla has flat torque cures that is good for towing. BTY no shifting problems and it is the same tranny that is in the diesel that may result in longer life with the gas. Keep in mind that the tranny is a torque converter, and a 10 speed offers smoother shift points that would increase its longevity and characteristics close to a constant velocity converter.

I’ve had two fords with the 10 speed - a 2018 f150 EB and our ‘21 expedition. Traded the f150 in on a ‘17 SD with the 6spd at around 70k miles. It was starting to act up. I towed with it quite a lot, but it was set up for max tow capacity and never pulled more than about 11k. Our ‘21 expedition is in getting a new transmission at 60k. Never towed. I’ll avoid the 10speed from now on. The 6speed is dead reliable.

So this is what ive learned over the last 3 years with my 2020 f250 godzilla. After a cold start, if you immediately put it into drive or reverse, its going to lurch. After a few minutes of warming up, it's fine and i have no problem. I think its because the idle RPMs are so high off a cold start, around 1,500 in my truck. Once its down closer to 1k it doesnt lurch and if its warm already it never does it. When driving, if you dont want it to constantly keep shifting, be gentle on the pedal. Just a little more oressure and it will downshift, or let off too much and itll upshift when you dont really want it too. I just try to keep a steady speed and its not gear hunting as much. I only have 22k but i have not had any problems with the engine so far, no bad spark plug wire and no lifter tick. A little bit of towing, but mostly maxing out the payload with gravel and compost, etc. I've probably hauled 15 tons of gravel. Empty i get about 16mpg which is fantastic. A bed full of gravel is around 13. Where i live its not flat but I wouldnt say very hilly either, just short steep inclines every once in a while. Love the truck. Crew cab LB XL

Don’t necessarily care all that much about gas mileage as dependability.

You may have had snow jam packed up in your transmission linkage. Likely why it hasn't happened again. Happens on the 6 speeds and the 10 speeds with mud all the time. I've had to climb under and chip it out with a screwdriver before on different occasions. Another telltale sign is when it looks like you got the truck in park but it will not start because the linkage on the transmission hasn't actually fully moved in to park.

I've gone the same route. F150 Heavy Tow 3.5L Eco to a new '21 F350 7.1L. 95% of its use is for towing a 8400# travel trailer. Here in the Pacific N.W. we have a lot of hills & mtns. The ECO was great, no lack of power. Just too light. MPG's are about the same towing Empty there was a difference . 17 vs 24 on the HWY; but I so seldom use it empty on the hwy, I don't care. The F350 holds the road a lot better in cross winds & Semi's passing us. A lot of people bad mouthed the 3.5L Eco; I'd always ask if they owned one. That quiet's them down quickly. I only had problems with the throttle body. Once I got that resolved we were good for a fair amount of miles. And yes, the ECO was quieter.

@bigp6071 Apologize if your not asking me, I wasn't sure...BUT I upgraded from a F150 to a F350. I bought mine new so it's only a $1700 upgrade from a F250 in '21. Didn't really need it but you gain 1k load cap and EVERTHING is identical except one leaf spring in the rear. Yes, major difference in driving & towing experience. The F150 had the power but I was just on the 2050# weight cap; not the towing cap. Mine was the "Heavy Tow" F150. Hugh difference in going down the road with little to no sway when semi's pass or a cross wind. The F150 weighed ~5k #; the F350 weighs ~7500#. MPG's little to no difference towing. You have a lot of real estate up in the air with a 32'tt to blow you around.

Your first problem is using that transmission for snowplowing. If you are constantly going from reverse to drive and driving slow speeds after driving on the highway or towing it doesnt know what to do.
You should have bought a late 90s F250/350 or Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 to plow with. It is way too hard on transmissions to be using a 10spd transmission you only need the first 3 gears in for plowing.

If your one of those meatheads and you shift without stopping or hit snowbanks at high speed shits going to break. Only issue Ive had with 2000-2019 automatic transmissions is one sensor that took me an hour to replace after dropping the pan. There is no OEM work truck on the market that doesnt have a major issue with one of the systems ,motor, or transmission. I keep waiting for a reliable combo because Im tired of Fords BS, down time cost me a lot of money.

After buying Fords for 40years a bit of advise for work. Just stick with the truck you like ,figure out how to repair it to work out the bugs. You just end up in a vicious cycle of buying Fords next problem child. Id buy two new trucks right now for my business if any of the big three produced a reliable truck. Modern diesels have endless EGR regen and limp mode issues. Fuel pumps coming apart,, oil pan issues (a 30 year ford issue) . Chevy forgot people are going to tow shit with 4500-6500 line up and thats the nicest looking truck on the market. Dodge is just to much to list to even consider. So the choices remain what truck looks good cause there all going into the shop before you hit 20k.

Yeah, air pollution is much better to have. Go to China where they don’t have EPA controls. Bring your own oxygen bottle.

The 7.3 is pushrod in order to get better low-end torque than the 6.2. The delamination issue looks to be due to bad parts (batch), as most 7.3s do not have that issue. The 7.3 is designed to work hard and last a long time doing it. The 6.2 would no longer meet emissions requirements. Ford needs to bring back the 6R140!!!

The 6R is definitely less problematic.

The 6.2 doesn't meet emissions but the 7.3 does? What did they change that made emissions better? I thought the 7.3 was a step into the past for ford to pushrod. Figured more displacement meant more emissions.

@@LifeisGood762 I get what you are saying. It wasn’t just about emissions. The 7.3L took the place of the 6.8L V10. It was a warranty nightmare for ford. It eased used in F450 up and cab/chassis RV’s. The new 6.8L V8 takes the place of the 6.2L SOHC engine. In higher GVW’s the emissions isn’t as strict. Over 14k GVW it’s a lower emissions rating. Don’t know the specifics but that’s kinda it.

@matthewnosal6893 They were making the v10 all the way up until the 7.3? That was a cool engine but they're hard to find. Lots on Facebook marketplace blown up. I think the 7.3 is a good idea for ford, we'll see how later versions do and the longevity. 6.2 sure was dependable though.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you had better get rid of that 7.3 back to the dealer -
It seems that ford has not learned from there bad design of the V6 where head gasket issue was very big and also there 4 cylinder engines as well where They of all things put a small slit between the cylinders for cooling and the head gaskets fail. So be warned and save your wallet Cause it will happen!! Coolant will start causing the issue where it will seep into the cylinder...
here's the proof -ruclips.net/video/Z7F7xyYXtGw/видео.htmlsi=10Zp5er4DmnJcDTy watch this video and see for yourself...Try and get the word out of this bad design.
Chevy 's are no good either because of the FMS - {fuel management system} - Dodge unknown at this time. You'd be better off getting a Toyota tundra
