He was a great inspiration for me to play the drums, I copy every song he did in the early records with the kinks...fantastic sound in a jazz tecnique, special left hand..
I met Mick at a Kast Off Kinks Gig at St.Helens. Cool as ever. Also had a chat with Jim Rodford who gave some great advice to my drumming son who was just into his first gigs and recording contract. The great thing was he asked us about our Music rather than us telling him like some star struck wannabees. The Kast offs put on a great show and the Lead Singer Dave Clarke gets full credit from me for just singing the songs as a tribute to the songs themselves instead of trying to impersonate the Davies Brothers..Hope to see them again at some point as they really are a great band in themselves.
I have always liked Micks druming. If one listning close he is doing everything right i think he is better than most of the drummers i ever llisten to and so is the rest of the bandklinks is still the best and will always be.
I was due to see The Kinks in Derby in 1965 but Mick cracked Dave Davies over the head with a bit of his drum kit and they had to cancel, replaced by the Walker Bros, finally got to see Mick live a few years ago with the Kast Off Kinks
Who the heck is Lonnie Donnigan ? Al Stewart mentioned him several times in interviews, features him in the song, "Catherine of Oregon", and Davd Davies mentioned him too. Now Mick Avory mentioned him. I will have to check out his GH CD.
one of the greatest drummers ever. i love his style
I love Mick Avory. Innovative drummer. Always coming up with new ideas. Huge catalog of great songs. Keep playing in the Kast Off Kinks. I enjoy it!
A fantastic drummer, God bless Mr. AvOry!
Mick is een heel onderschatte drummer.is van grote waarde geweest voor een van de beste bands ter wereld. THE KINKS
Mick has such a cool laid back style on the drums.
Love that last line..."today you get the deal....and then learn to play afterwards"....so true so true!!

Mick is right there with Jeff Porcaro with time and feel. Great player
Yes, it would show Mick the respect he is due, to get his name right.

Y'know, you are able to EDIT the title and spell the man's fucking last name correctly. I mean, it's only been, what, 8 years?

I had a feeling he was going to say Arthur.
Look it up under Lonnie Donegan (he was a skiffle artist).

Did you know he once played for the R Stones?
