  • At the 53rd New York Film Festival, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore joined New York Film Festival director Kent Jones for an in-depth discussion about his career and approach to filmmaking. Moore's latest work, Where To Invade Next, was a selection in the Main Slate of the festival.
    “Democracy is not a spectator sport, it’s a participatory event,” said Michael Moore at a 2009 press conference. “If we don’t participate in it, it ceases to be a democracy.” Moore has been an active participant since his childhood in Flint, Michigan, where he was raised in a union family-his uncle was actually a UAW founder and a participant in the great General Motors sit-down strike of 1936. In 1989, Moore’s participation took the form of a film called 'Roger & Me' (NYFF 1989), a spirited, funny, white-hot attack on GM, which had by then moved most of their jobs out of the country and devastated the once-thriving region, a scenario that was repeated many times throughout the country. In the years since, Moore has been launching brilliantly planned comic attacks on the NRA and the gun industry ('Bowling for Columbine'), the American response to 9/11 ('Fahrenheit 9/11'), the health-care industry ('Sicko), capitalism itself ('Capitalism: A Love Story), and, with his new film 'Where To Invade Next,' the divide between America’s lofty self-image and the less impressive reality.

    I always learn something when Michael Moore speaks. Thanks so much for daring to share your dark celtic humor and simple hence profound insights with us regular folk. Why not do a film on Palestine? I think the time has come to educate Americans and others on THIS. I think u too will learn a lot as u subject this topic to your truth microscope from which truth cannot hide. Be sure to consult CANADIAN Gabor Mate on this subject before you formulate your game plan.He has deep insights into the nature of the ongoing struggle. If u remove politics from it, u will see the humanity.

      BayanTheOne BayanTheOne....... He was kidding! But making a serious point!! People who use their phones when the cinema is in darkness should kicked & punched for an hour BEFORE being killed!! You have to ask yourself........ Am I kidding??? 🤔🤔......

      @@kevinlynch9438 no need to punch and kill, just make the cinema goers deposit their phones before entrance into the auditorium, not 100% effective but may work to some extent

    He says "art is more important than politics." But every documentary he has made, and for that matter nearly every documentary that reaches any audience today, would never survive without a political/social justice/reformist hook. Had Michael Moore dedicated his career to the subject matter of, say, mere portraits of apolitical artists, he would have never made it past home videomaking.

      As investigate journalism, his movies are great. Now that I learn we was trying to make "ART' - he kinda missed the mark.

      He's a joke rather be famous than actually document the truth and this video is truth... he even tells people not to be documentarian and sell your soul be a movie maker? Wtf did I just hear... the truth might not make as much money but fuck you for putting money first you fat fuck

  • @jodo8576
    @jodo8576 4 года назад

    Did he just say that it's better to make movies and sell ourselves to the people rather than give them the raw information? Which is what a documentarian should do?
