K drama, Alchemy of souls, historical fantasy, amazing martial arts, love stories, funny, heartbreaking and so beautiful. Didn't know what was going on for the 1st half hour so give it time!
i started that this weekend. what the king did was some nasty work.
Yes!! Definitely confused for a little bit in the first episode, but I ended up binging both seasons back to back. Definitely recommend!
I recommend the K-Drama "Crash Landing on You"!!
The Glory----loved, loved, loved it....A girl is bullied by her classmates and she grows up to seek revenge on all of them...the twists and turns are awesome, there are 2 seasons with a third on the way.
Omg k drama!! There are so many good ones to start with. There’s Crash Landing on You, Alchemy of Souls, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, The Tale of the Nine-Tailed, and Business Proposal are all really good and all on Netflix. 💜
The girl who kept the castle sounds so good, thanks for the recommendation!!!
For k-dramas you might like Hotel del Luna since you do like nightmare-ish, darker stuff. It's just 1 season, multiple characters get their own backstory. Highly recommend.
K-dramas I've loved have included Hotel del Luna and How to Sell Your Haunted House. They both are fantasy plot forward, but the first one does have elements of romance, too
I have a bad habit of starting K-dramas and not finishing them, but True Beauty and Business Proposal had me HOOKED! They’re also the only ones that I’ve re-watched! Destined with you was also a fun goofy time 😊
I have never seen any K-Drama’s either, until I saw King the Land, over at Netflix.
it was a slightly goofy and silly at first but the emotional characters moments and growth, the romance was so well developed!
It ended up being so sweet and wholesome which I loved.
And it does a phenomenal job and depicting the everyday struggles of normal life, such as: families, financial needs, etc
I love the cute cheesy Korean romances, they’re so innocent and swoony
Korean Odyssey, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung, Alchemy of Souls, It’s Okay to Not be Okay are some of my fav k-dramas
"Mirrored Heavens" is one of my most anticipated releases of this year. I belive in Rebecca Roanhorse. I am going to to my second re-read of "Black Sun" and my first re-read of "Fevered Star" as soon as possible. Thank you for the updates
Maybe collect all the K-drama propositions and make a video to tell us too! 😄 - books that feel like k-drama too ofc!
I recommend the K-Drama W (W - 2 Worlds Apart). The concept was so fun! Basically, the daughter of a famous Web Comic artist somehow gets pulled into the world of her father's comic, and she has to deal with the consequences of her meddling with the plot and going back and forth between the two worlds. There is comedy and romance in the plot as well.
Thank you for letting us know about Foul Days. It is so cool to get some Balkan fantasy ❤
What about The Daughters War? The prequel to The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman?
totally unrelated to the content of your video, but your eye make up looks so beautiful :)
For Kdrama, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. So goood.
K drama recommendations: Flower of Evil, Uncontrollaby Fond, Love in the Moonlight, Rooftop Prince, Moon Embracing the Sun, The Innocent Man, Bridal Mask, The Princess' Man.
I second Flower of Evil, it is my favorite K-Drama ! It is a romantic detective thriller
Others recs :
Arthdal Chonicles : grim epic fantasy for fans of Game of Thrones
While you were sleeping : fantastic/Detective/Romance
It's okay not yo be okay : Romance/Mental Health/Fantasy
Scarlet Heart Ryeo or Moon Lovers : Historical Drama/ Romance/ Tragedy / Pain
Love the cover of dancers of the Dawn!
Howls Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones is a fantastic read. You will love it, Elliot😍
Yesss I love both the movie and book!!!
Ooooh my fav K-drama is The Tale of the Nine-tailed, but I also really recommend Mr Queen. Both have amazing character development and plot and on top of that are hilarious (especially the second one)
I read an ARC of The God & The Gumiho and loved it! Both characters are so lovable, especially our mischievous Gumiho, and the humor is great ✨
Thank you for your rec's! And I really agree with the already mentioned k-dramas... if you like longish fantasy series you could also try the c-drama "the long ballad". Really liked the female lead and her journey/character evolution. Starts in a very common place of "parents get killed because of a power struggle & she is out to get revenche" but it starts to pull in more characters from different countries and she has to ask herself what revenche would actually achieve.
I recommend The Great Queen Seondeok, loosely based on the historical reign of one of the greatest, but largely unknown in the west, female rulers this story combines elements of Mulan and Snow White while also having one of the greatest female villains I've ever encountered in any TV show, Lady Mishil. Intelligent women, martial arts, tragic love, humor, and great acting, this show has it all. For Chinese dramas I recommend Nivana in Fire, the story of a survivor on borrowed time who is seeking to bring down the corrupt regime who wrongfully wiped out his clan as traitors while helping his childhood friend ascend to the throne all the while keeping his identity secret for fear of his true identity being revealed.
This is a good list! You named many of the ones I'm looking forward to as well ("The God and the Gumiho", "The Girl Who Kept the Castle", and "Foul Days"). One other book I'm looking forward to is a queer scifantasy romance called "The Stars Too Fondly" by Emily Hamilton, coming out June 11.
Omg Elliot welcome to my world. My personal kdrama recommendations would be ( I’ll list them in order of genre)
Romance: crash landing on you, 2521 (this one is also slice of life), it’s okay to not be okay, hometown cha cha cha, weightlifting fair Kim bok joo , true beauty
Fantasy: tale of the nine tailed (this one also has a gumiho) my demon, guardian: the great and lonely soul, hotel del Luna, Moon lover: scarlet heart ryeo, and strong women do bong soon
Action/mystery: Vincenzo, summer strike (this one starts at as slice of life)
Some honorable mentioned would be Youth of May, 18 again, and Live on.
I really hope you enjoy some of the ones on my list!
Some Kdrama recommendations for you:
- Death at your service: My absolute favourite, a 'romantasy' if you will where a woman's life gets extended by Death and then ends up falling in love with Death.
- Crash landing on you: A classic, super high production value, perhaps 'historical fiction'. A South Korean woman paragliding is hit by a massive storm and ends up landing in North Korea. This is also very insightful into the North and South relationship, language differences, the social status of men and women, and from what I understand offers quite a realistic glimpse into North Korea.
- My roommate is a Gumiho - For my taste this was a bit too silly, but seems on topic with the book you recommended! It's definitely more comedic than the previous ones, and I'd also categorise it as romantasy.
Hope you find something you like :)
Btw, cool trivia about the Saints of Storm and Sorrow protagonist's name. "Lunurin" means "drown [them]". I look forward to getting that one🤩
K drama recs; my roommate is a gumiho (romance fantasy, it’s SO GOOD), doom at your service (fantasy romance), crash landing on you (romance of a South Korean woman who “crash lands” in North Korea), DP (military action/drama, I think there’s two seasons now?)
I think sticking with fantasy … k drama Hotel Del Luna is a good one to start with. And you can’t go wrong with an oldie Tale of the Nine Tailed
Dangers of the dawn so excited for this book! 🤍💜🧡🫶🏻🫶🏻🧡💜💘💘🤍🧡❣️❣️🩷🌻🌻❤️📖📖❤️📚💐💓❣️🩷🌻🌈💘🫶🏻🫶🏻🤍💘🤍🌻💛📖📖❤️📙📚📚🤎🤎🌺🌷💚💙💚🩵🩵🩵
The Girl Who Kept the Castle sounds so good. I love middle grade books and this sounds fun.
Kdrama recommendation: I think you'd love Alchemy of Souls, it blew me away with its fantasy elements and storyline, made me giggle at the romance and laugh at the silly moments!
If you like the Gumiho concept there is a kdrama called my roommate is a Gumiho that I find pretty funny.
I have so many drama recommendations.... in terms of fantasy k-dramas I'll second Alchemy of Souls, and add A Korean Odyssey (modern day take on Journey to the West), While You Were Sleeping (modern day light fantasy about people who have prophetic dreams trying to prevent murders), The Master's Sun (modern fantasy about a woman who can see ghosts) and Arang and the Magistrate (historical fantasy about a magistrate who can see ghosts and the ghost who helps him).
Though, in my opinion if you're a fan of especially long-form fantasy/historical fantasy/ fantasy or historical romance, c-dramas are where it's at. My personal favourites include The Story of Ming Lan (slow historical romance about a Cinderella-like character coming into her own), The Romance of Tiger and Rose (fantasy/comedy about an author entering the world of her script, which is set in a world where gender roles are reversed, and trying to get the plot back on track), Ancient Love Poetry, Eternal Love, Love and Redemption and The Starry Love are all good dramas in the xianxia genre (fantasy about traditional Chinese pantheons of gods) and would recommend those if you like Song of Silver Flame Like Night.
As a last wild-card entry I'll throw in a recommendation for the Thai drama Love Destiny, which is about an archaeologist going back in time to the Ayutthaya period. This is one that my history nerd self keeps coming back to.
Thanks for the update
The afterlife of mal caldera sounds right up my alley....I'm ready to get my feelings hurt!
Right? I’m sad already and I haven’t even read it 😂
You NEED to read Howls Moving Castle and the other two books in the trilogy. You won’t regret it.
Drama Recs: Love Between Fairy and Devil, The Silent Sea, Alice in Borderland, Business Proposal, A Korean Odyssey, Behind Your Touch, Gyeongseong Creature, Sweet Home, Doom at Your Service, Destined With You, My Demon
Some of my favorite k-dramas: Signal, Because this is my First Life, 30 but 17 (Still 17), Extraordinary You, The Matchmakers, Mr Queen, Kingdom
Thank you for the recommendations. Have to add, that blue is so pretty on you💙
Hidden Love and When I Fly Towards you are great CDramas:)
Girl I hope you are really ready for the kdrama rabbit hole… my recommendation are
Classic- Boys over flowers
Romantic drama- While you were sleeping! Personal favorite
Comedy- weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-Jo
Horror- All of us are dead
Teen fun- True Beauty
5:04 So many bloopers in this channel 😆
I’m also very overwhelmed by k-dramas and don’t know where to start! But my friend got me to watch Business Proposal and I was HOOKED. it’s a very cute and heartwarming romcom
Crash landing on you is absolute crack. It was my first one and set the bar too high!
KDramas I love - Coffee Prince, A business proposal, Oh my Ghostess. Always give it a couple of episodes
I am adding ''The Afterlife of Mal Caldera'' to my TBR list. And ''The Girl who kept the Castle''
So many great Kdramas! Some great historical ones are Iljimae, Tae Wang Sa Shing Gi (The Legend), others that are more modern setting ones that I reccommend are Secret Garden, Coffee Prince, 49 Days, Death At Your Service.
For K-drama, Korean Odyssey is so good! Even my husband loved it, and he had never really taken an interest in any of my K-dramas before then.
Saints of storm and sorrow sounds amazing ! Hopefully it has a similar vibe like poppy war!
The kdrama recs are all over the place!
If you want some melos you might be interested in dramas like When the Weather Is Fine. It does have some triggering scenes towards the end but the characters all have a bookclub and its super cozy.
If you want something like pride and prejudice style you might like Love to Hate You.
For a healing drama there's A Daily Dose of Sunshine. It focuses on mental illnesses but it has some heavy topics that might make it difficult to get through.
And this is a cdrama but if you liked some of the martial arts/wuxia elements in Art of Prophecy you would probably like Word of Honor.
Do you cover mostly trad pub? I have a self pub fantasy coming out later in June (hopefully)
I haven't watched many k-dramas, but I thought Hotel del Luna was great. It is a perfect blend of romance and the supernatural, about a hotel manager who comes across a hotel for the dead and its sassy, fierce caretaker. It's very funny but also a little creepy sometimes... And is about the dead hanging around... So maybe you won't like it 😅
The Mirrored Heavens was a great ending to a great series! I felt the same about books 1 and 2.
For K-dramas, the wife is a huge fan so I know bits and pieces of most that are on Netflix 😂Two I can recommend are:
- Extraordinary Attorney Woo (has all the usual tropes so you see everything in one shot, and the MC is autistic which puts a very different spin things) and
- Doctor Cha (housewife goes back to med school and practice after 20 years following a medical scare).
Dancers of the Dawn is going on my TBR. As is Saints of Storm and Sorrow. (Especially interested in the former.) And Foul Days too. It sounds awesome. But I'm going to wait to see your (hopefully) review on Mirrored Heavens before diving into that trilogy. I really hope that 3rd installment really does stick the landing. June is going to be a great month. :)
Fantasy = Alchemy of Souls and Hotel del Luna
Romcom = weightlifting fairy, strong woman do bong soon, fight for my way
Drama= little women, penthouse, the glory
I always say that the book is better than the movie except with Howl's moving castle movie. I was thinking about this movie when Iwas reading shadows of magic series by V. Schwab
K drama recommendation Alchemy of Souls. So good. Fantasy based. Great leads.
I watched Start Up, thats the only k drama I've seen but I loved it so much!
Which one is Elliot excited for?
I love Kdramas! I just finished Under the Queen's Umbrella yesterday in fact and even though parts toward the end didn't captivate me the way earlier episodes did, I still think it was amazing, especially in regards to the Queen's character. My other absolute favorites are Just Between Lovers, which tackles loss and grief and survivors' guilt, and The King's Affection, which I think does some interesting things with gender and those traditional roles. I've also good things about Alchemy of Souls, which is more fantasy based
a great k-drama is kingdom
There's plenty of fantasy Kdramas, unfortunately my faves are a couple of contemporary school ones (My ID is Gangnam Beauty and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) and some thriller/horror/survival series (He is Psychometric, Kingdom, Parasyte: The Grey, and Sweet Home). If you've read/watched the Parasyte animanga, The Grey is a spinoff within the same universe.
Also, thanks for these recs. Haven't heard of some of these. Gonna add them to my TBR.
I also want to get into k-dramas! My first k-drama was Inheritors and i thought it was great 😂 Angsty rich kid drama.
K drama recommendation: twinkling watermelon plus queen of tears.....
Hello friend
Mr Sunshine
Crash Landing on You
Coffee Prince
A lot of these sound YA. I wish i wasnt so , idk, jaded and old, to enjoy YA still. 😢 But it just doesn't read the same as it would for 17yo me or even 21yo me.
Squid Game is my favorite K drama
Kdrama: Hospital Playlist - it’s really about friendship , esp after 40 😭
K-Drama: Our Blues
K-drama: Marry My Husband!

Alice in borderland, should be ok for you
No K-drama for me. It is not my jam. So many good books are coming out in the next several months.
Not a single male author mentioned. Sad.
