I don't particularly care about cars. I watch every one of your videos because they are hilarious and the production quality is inspirational. I would watch any video you produced about anything.
I just purchased the 2018 model. I live in Florida, and the ride is way softer than the Honda CRV and my Honda Accord EX. . The dual clutch transmission will amaze you. Best Buy ever, love it.
My GTI (2016 Autobahn w/ Performance Package, 6-speed manual) is getting some work done in the shop, and I have a loaner base-model Soul. Gotta admit that, for what it is, it's not bad. It makes me want to try the Turbo model out. I just wish they'd offer it with a stick, or AT LEAST paddle shifters. Also, I happen to dig the boxy-looking cars, so maybe I'm biased.
Great review! My girlfriend just got the 2017 Kia Soul Plus. I must say it's a pretty good car for what it is. It's practical without the large SUV impracticality, it's rather comfortable on long road trips and it's easy to drive. She's very pleased! And that was with the Plus model. The one in the video looks to be the fully loaded one, and is even more impressive.
Hey Geese....I just want you to know that whenever you post a video....ANY video....it's an instant watch for me.... no hesitation. You're by far the best car reviewer in the biz.
Warhead Urban Exploration ...that is because people buy them first over black, silver, and white...the alien 2 green is one of three interesting colors...inferno red and Caribbean blue...the turbo comes i 5 colors - 4 boring ones and red
I own a 2016 Kia Soul and I am very happy with it. The only flaw I can see is that Kia didn't install an interior button to open the rear hatch. You have to open it with the button on the Kep Fob.
I recently had a brand new (28KM) Kia Soul rental car. It was the cheapest option. It was actually super fun to drive around. The ride quality isn't the greatest, but it handles like an oversized go-kart. I would have no problem buying the manual stick shift of this car. Good value for what you get.
I just this week rented a 2018 model with normally aspirated engine. With three of us in the car and a bunch of luggage , it was surprisingly comfortable, quick and nimble. On I75 , I4 and 417 in Florida I was managing 80 MPH speeds and had plenty of power to pass at 90. I felt the car handled very well. I did not encounter any rough roads so the suspension seemed fine. I did not get a sense the car was "cheap" in any way. Under the hood, the engine appeared to have a lot of room for servicing. The only negative was that I would like to have had more distance from seat to dash. Also there was no place on the center console to place my GPS unit. It would be a car I would recommend.
I live in a snowy region, and have a 2012 kia soul, 136,000 miles. All you need is good tires to get you from point A to point B. I drove my dads brand new truck off the lot 40k brand new truck and got stuck in the snow on a main road, had some sanitation workers help me out and I gave them doughnuts a couple days later for there help. Tires are a big deal, people are a big deal, the vehicle does matter, but the most important part is how you drive it. I drove that beast of a truck out of a parking lot, and got stuck 3 blocks down. 4 wheel drive was on, had 2 gas tanks full, he paid 40k for this thing, tires are brand new, so I felt confident compared to using my Kia soul. The point is, it is not about the vehicle(to a point) it is how you use it.
Savagegeese, description fix for ya: "...Nissan kicking the Cube to the curb, Juke is the only one left in this segment" It should be: "...Nissan kicking the Cube to the curb, the Soul is the only one left in this segment." I assume you meant to say that because the Cube and the xB are dead, that the Soul is the only one left in the breadbox CUV hatchback segment. Btw, I loved the review as always!
I own one, and the inside space is one of the best features you did not mention. I'm 6'8" and there are few other cars I could fit in. Also I have blind spot detection.. I don't know why you don't.
My 2016 Kia Soul ! has more leather & soft touch than my 2015 Mustang GT premium. The doors have 2 types of soft touch, but a small padded armrest area, and the dashboard is all soft touch, except for that center for the would be subwoofer.
seriously, the reviews are nice and all that, but the mechanic is just too quiet, he should give us his opinion with more details, from a mechanically point of view . I mean i would love to know what KIA or any other car uses for components, like are they good or bad, good quality or bad ? just my 2 cents. other than that i really love your reviews.
This is a vehicle I never would have considered. My car was in the shop for some body work and I rented a Soul. Really liked it. I decided to test drive a high end model (because I wanted the sunroof, not the tech). Found out you can't get a sunroof and have a roof rack. This was a deal killer for me. We are "active seniors' and have to have a roof rack for our bikes (no hitch rack for me). Ended up buying a 2011 CRV EX--no tech, real transmission, hydraulic steering, sun roof, and roof rack.
Listen Sir , just because you lopped off your wang and sewed a cheap Chinese wallet in it's place does not make you a woman, no matter what Obama told you...
Really like the channel, you and Turbowski make a great duo. I'm sure there are reasons as to why you can't review certain vehicles, but I'm kindly requesting some more variety. Jeep? Honda? Buick? Keep up the great work!
Why do you call this an old platform. The second gen Soul was released in 2014 and still looks fresh three years later. We love our 2016 Soul+. It's small on the outside, yet deceptively large on the inside. It's also very comfortable for road trips and a perfect car for commuting.
+Chuck Donahue it's built on Hyundai and Kia is last generation architecture. When you take a look at what they did for the current generation and you feel the difference in terms of driving solidity and all the things associated with these changes you don't understand. But if you haven't been in those cars back-to-back it's less noticeable.
Have you done a Kia Forte SX (hatch or koup)? They have the same drivetrain as this but are obviously lighter and in a sportier package and can be had with a manual.
This is a terrific car for the real price that you will be able to pick it up for. I do disagree with you on the interior materials quality. I have a 2016 exclaim, and, unless they changed something (appears they did not), I find the materials to be quite good for this class of car. Lots of soft touch materials. I appreciate this video a lot. Makes me wish I had the 1.6 turbo and (equally important) the dual clutch transmission. I dont think the ride should be a turn off to most buyers. I dont think mine rides too terribly (again for this class of car). Maybe my roads are smoother, but I have never wished for a softer ride. On the other hand, I HAVE wished for more power, which KIA has addressed with this model. Kia has a home run here. There are not many cars left in this segment to consider and there is a lot of value to be had here. But where are the paddle shifters? Seems like an obvious omission for a car of this type. Would love to see some nice metal paddle shifters!
I'm still driving my 06 Scion xB. I've been in a Soul and it's just too small. Still, I love the high ride height. I don't think there's another wagon out there that has a high ride but I just don't think I can pull the trigger on buying a Kia Soul.
The most amusing part of this car, KIA Soul, is the pie plate in top of dashboard where the electric version has components. That pie plate cracks me up. The ride? Seemed okay but has turbo lag, in the city. My wife liked it, not myself. I spent 15 years driving a 2002 CRV with V6 Accord engine. Another box on wheels. It was okay, which is why I had it for 15 years. When new, had much of what is now common in cars. The Soul is fine, just not for me. Though i did end up buying a KIA car. They're a highly regarded dealership. shop and customer service company here in Canuckland.
do you think so far at lower price points you either get handling or power but not both? I haven't heard of a car that has decent power and great handling outside of real sports cars
In regards to h22 swap odyssey, first gen odyssey was built on the accord platform and are stock with the h23 motor. I own a prelude with an h23 swap (stock with h22). I did not perform the swap but from my understanding, the motor mounts were the only adjustments needed.
Makes you want to guess where they're going to go from here with the Soul platform. I feel as though the turbo engine is starting to pay its dividends with newer platforms using it along with their dual clutches. If they could improve upon the handling, I think any future Kia/Hyundai should get serious looks for most buyers. Which reminds me, are you going to review the Elantra Sport? Same turbo engine/dual clutch but kicking the torsion beam for real independent suspension.
There is a trim level above the one here, I know at least in Canada you can get blind spot monitoring, pre collision warning, panoramic sunroof, cooled seats and HID headlights amongst other things.
do u think the poor ride/handling is more from the 18" wheel/tire or is it the dampers too? will the 17s on lesser models be more "forgiving"...my mk4 gti has a twist beam rear and short wb and it does just fine; granted its not a Lotus...adding a larger rear swaybar could help tighten things up (if ppl make them)...this car is C&D's #1 in this segment so KIA has to be doing something right
Good review. Disagree about the CVT though. CVT is fun to drive, if you see hypermileing as performance driving. Keep the rpm below 2000rpm and it is gold. Listen to the engine noise. Less rumble = less fuel use. You can play with the endless gears endlessly. It never bores me. And, it is objectively the best way to get around the fact that that 19th century technology we call a gas engine needs a transmission in the first place.
+Ronald de Rooij Except 70% of CVTs are not that good. There are a few that are doable but its few and far in between. For daily driving non issue though, agreed.
Ronald de Rooij the CVT is ancient tech. it was created by Michealangelo in the middle ages. The reason Asian auto makers are producing them in large volume is because they're more affordable to produce than a various speed transmission.
The ppl that be calling these ugly be the main ones who be secretly loving these 😂 this is the best compact SUV u can get .. sedans can be boring , trucks ... Well also big ass suvs🚫🤣
I always thought the Soul is a pretty cool car. But after looking at it from underneath, I don't think it is worthy of consideration. One question: judging only from the underneath perspective, how does it compare to Honda Fit or similar competitors?
I like the base model. Reliable. Uncomplicated. 6 speed manual and 38 mpg can be achieved being Chill. Plus 14 grand is easier to Swallow than over 25 grand.
I wonder if the suspension's any better on non-turbo models. I'm thinking of buying a 2017 Kia Soul Plus with the 2.0 GDI for the exact reasons you stated, it's cheap basic transportation with tons of versatility and has great reliability and safety ratings.
I have had my 2017 SOUL for about three weeks or so and so far I am pleased with the suspension. The cheese crate moves for what it is. I gave up a dodge dart gt for it and so far I like everything but I need to figure out all the electronics to which I am not that great at. The head room is great, Leg room, Heated steering, Seats also and both sides power. It's got everything I wanted but the fall backs are the security unless I am doing something wrong. You cannot leave it running and lock the doors. And it appears to have no alarm!! WTF? I haven't had a car without an alarm since like 85 or so. I had to get them to toss in an auto start. So there are some down falls to it but over all so far I am OK with it. I'll only have it for about a year anyway.
In Canada, a lot of these make it to rental fleets. If you want one of these as a second car, a used one with around 10,000 miles is half the cost of new. The turbo would be fun, but it's not a great value proposition.
I have a '13 White base model Soul, yeah its great for around town trips to the store or work, but right about the suspension its horrible, I almost have to stop and get out every 1 1/2 - 2 hours on a road trip to stretch from being uncomfortable.
These cars, in the right color with the right wheels and the panoramic sunroof are GORGEOUS. Anyone who thinks otherwise has a warped view of things. Granted, KIA has managed to make some of the Souls look hideous with the red line going around the bottom of certain colors and the new 2020 and up look like absolute ass. But the funky ones from 2010-2019 were awesome. They had SOUL. Unlike the new ones that look like boring grandma rides. Thanks for letting some psychopathic CEO ruin a good thing KIA!!!
I purchased my 2017 Kia Soul + with the 2.0 non-turbo because I keep my cars beyond the warranty. I did not want the moonroof because my Soul sleeps outside. No power folding side-view mirrors because it will be less to go wrong down the road.
Fun to drive? We have a soul in our family but we don't have it because it's fun to drive (wich is not) but because it is Practical. There's no better small car to move lots of stuff. I did drove a Turbo Soul (we have a 2.0) and while yeah, is way better, I can't qualify it as a "fun to drive" car either. I still prefeer the Nismo Juke, that is actually kind of fun to drive, is impractical as hell tho. Overall, the soul is a better car, is cheap too (cheap in price, but super cheap quality too) but fun? nope, not there. Large trips on a soul are a pain.
I don't particularly care about cars. I watch every one of your videos because they are hilarious and the production quality is inspirational. I would watch any video you produced about anything.
Turbowski's giggle when he was reading his funny text message was a treat
I just purchased the 2018 model. I live in Florida, and the ride is way softer than the Honda CRV and my Honda Accord EX. . The dual clutch transmission will amaze you. Best Buy ever, love it.

I stand for the my soul 6speed mt.... love it... indeed...
Boxy is Foxy. R32 owner.
I know it's kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to watch new series online ?
@Stefan Ronin lately I have been using Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
Turbowski is a national treasure
"it though it was a Juke"... Long live Turbowski!!!!
Great review! My girlfriend just got the 2017 Kia Soul Plus. I must say it's a pretty good car for what it is. Got my sides rolling. lol
Im a Kia guy i have two i know a lot about this cars and for me one of the best cars in the market for life.
Stellar content you have Mr. Sausage.

No one wants to hear a negative review. I finally switched off because you kept saying Basic, basic. I find the Kia soul very nice.
Anything with "soul " isn't basic haha
it seems like every time I see a Kia Soul, they're green.
they're mostly white in my area. A few red and black ones as well.
Warhead Urban Exploration ...that is because people buy them first over black, silver, and white...the alien 2 green is one of three interesting colors...inferno red and Caribbean blue...the turbo comes i 5 colors - 4 boring ones and red
Warhead Urban Exploration Holy shit most of the Kia Souls I see are the fugly green! Damn!!!
I have one 2016 green. I see a lot of them around town but only 2 other green ones. I mostly see white. silver and black.
everytime i see one its an old person
I have to say, you guys are my favorite auto review channel on RUclips. Keep up the great work!

Btw, I loved the review as always!
You forgot the death of the Honda Element.
Only one other "MPV" left in the U.S., and that's the Honda Fit, and it's sales are so miniscule, JD Powers doesn't even bother. The HRV fares better.
I own one, and the inside space is one of the best features you did not mention. I'm 6'8" and there are few other cars I could fit in. Also I have blind spot detection.. I don't know why you don't.

God damn I love Scott's segments. Stay awesome guys.
! I own a Kia Soul and probably next year I'll buy another one or trade in but I don't like how they did the tailgate how they split it.

I'm looking to buy a new first car for my daughter. Would you say the back seat has enough room for sexual activity? 🤔
Do what I did, remove the rear seats and install a spike strip like the cops use...

Not sure what year it was but I had a base model Kia Soul as a rental and it rode surprisingly well. Must be the wheel and tire package on this one.
Just subscribed great reviews very well narrated.
Really like the channel, you and Turbowski make a great duo. I'm sure there are reasons as to why you can't review certain vehicles, but I'm kindly requesting some more variety. Jeep? Honda? Buick? Keep up the great work!
I would buy this over a mini cooper anyday! My friend has a mini and it gets a 0 for everyday practically for more than 2 peeps.
I think that for the price this is a great car. Fairly roomy indoors. Nice high position. I like it.
Why do you call this an old platform. The second gen Soul was released in 2014 and still looks fresh three years later. We love our 2016 Soul+. It's small on the outside, yet deceptively large on the inside. It's also very comfortable for road trips and a perfect car for commuting.

I would love for you to review the Kia Stinger when it comes out!
I wonder if the added intake pressure from turbo charging can mitigate the excess carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves.
Have you done a Kia Forte SX (hatch or koup)? They have the same drivetrain as this but are obviously lighter and in a sportier package and can be had with a manual.
What a great team you are!
I work at a Kia dealer and i really wanna drive one of these once i get the chance to.
I'm still driving my 06 Scion xB. I've been in a Soul and it's just too small. Still, I love the high ride height. I don't think there's another wagon out there that has a high ride but I just don't think I can pull the trigger on buying a Kia Soul.
Rewatching this pile review today after the new Rio review. Just noticed Turbowski's touchscreen mechanic';s gloves @9:10 . Slick !
I like the new intro. What prompted you to change it?

Agree with the comment about the CVT notion. I wouldn't buy one. Also, a powerful engine is a must.
I love your content? How about reviews on some of your favorite or interesting older cars?

The Soul is the best looking vehicle of the bread box cars in my opinion . The XB and the Element are too boxy, and the Cube is just too damn weird.
What are the specs on the 1.6 turbo? Did you mention that?
There is a trim level above the one here, I know at least in Canada you can get blind spot monitoring, pre collision warning, panoramic sunroof, cooled seats and HID headlights amongst other things.
Also, the current Soul only came out in 2014, it's not really that old.

savage, what happened to that hilarious intro for Turbo Turbowski? I dig the techno Tron sound but that music was hilarious
+tony oliver I dont want someone to come after me for using that music. After the goose intro issue not worth it.
fucking lame
I wonder if the suspension could be modified to make it better?
of course.
You should get the Kia Niro for review so far reviews say it handles better than most Hybrids and it has a DCT instead of a CVT.
Scott is a classic.
SavageG recommends the Kia Soul Turbo for your senior parents.
I bet the heat from the vents fries those sound pods over the course of ownership

Can u review the new CRV thanks
I would buy it
I literally fell asleep watching this last night. U make Eeyore sound exciting sir
KaiDub24 this guy makes the best car reviews on RUclips actually.
In Canada, a lot of these make it to rental fleets. If you want one of these as a second car, a used one with around 10,000 miles is half the cost of new. The turbo would be fun, but it's not a great value proposition.
elton john just the vehicle for the yellow brick road.
love these guys
Great Review.
would love you see you review a Nissan GTR
Not to mention they have started putting the garbage transmission in the new ones (CVT) Crap Valued Trash.
The issue is the size of the tires.
Can you add more volume to your videos?
what about the kia soul exclaim
I purchased my 2017 Kia Soul + with the 2.0 non-turbo because I keep my cars beyond the warranty. I did not want the moonroof because my Soul sleeps outside. No power folding side-view mirrors because it will be less to go wrong down the road.
Zero dislikes! Yes!
that exhaust section is begging for a Catback!
With same underpinnings, Hyundai have Creta CUV in India, which they should have launched in US market.
Turbowski in 4k!!!!
Nice LG V20. Great choice.
Yo bro, I need a LG phone!

Do a new Genesis sedan Turbo 376 hp please?
+Sαисτus Gεrmαιn coming
savagegeese Great. Thx
