2017 Kia Soul Turbo - Redline: Review

  • Funky style, class turbo leading power, and premium cabin features make the latest 2017 Soul Turbo a truly unique and desirable compact hatchback. Those of you searching for an economy car that truly stands out should put one at the top of your list, just keep in mind that this is still an economy car at its roots and the ride quality and interior noise can grow tiresome for the most finicky of drivers.

    I had to buy a daily driver because it turns out I'm not a fan of daily driving my HD Ram 2500. Plus it's already been to the body shop twice because of other people. Got the 2019 used and I have to say, I love this little car. I accept it for what it is and it is a nice break from the RAM. Buzzes around town and parks like a dream. I didn't realize it was a DCT or anything - the turbo badge got me into CarMax and I picked it up for a great deal. Super happy with it.

    I actually bought that model. You should have put it in sport mode when driving; you would’ve seen that it drives different. I think it’s pretty zippy. If you’re looking for a sports car, you should drive a mustang or another sports car. For a one person or two people vehicle, it’s a very nice car. And it does the trick. I’m pretty satisfied with my choice.

    Wow a little harsh towards a compact practical vehicle that sells over 150,000 thousand cars a year LOL. I find young old middle-aged guys girls men women all compliment my car and say how much they love it. the problem with other vehicles similar to the soul is the styling they all try to hard to impress on the outside but offer less cargo space and stick a fat ass price tag on it than try to justify why it costs so much. basically you're paying for the badge not the vehicle itself, I don't care how good a Toyota or Honda or even a BMW is. I'm looking for something that is simple compact but still useful for a lot of different tasks. I've done everything an SUV can do but better. my car was under 18,000 20 bucks fills it up and I could go well over 200 miles. I've had mine for well over a year never had a single problem with it. even if I did, it has the best leading class warranty of any other vehicle out there 10 yr 100,000 mile powertrain warranty can't complain about that.

    Sofyan's wrong about the 0-60 times on the non-turbo Souls. The + with the 2.0L engine takes about 8.5 seconds to get to 60. The base with the 1.6L non-turbo might take around 10 seconds, but the 2.0L accounts for most sales.

    recently ended up with a 2017 green-machine Soul rental out in SoCal.! Scary??? .... It was the 2.0 GDI automatic. Was quite apprehensive about accepting this unit out there, but let me tell you this! On the most challenging, demanding battleground for motoring, that is the rugged, notorious LA freeway system - that little rodent of a machine pulled through with flying colors! I kid you not. It felt as safe, solid, protective , comfortable and nimble as any other 50k plus road machine out there. And more than ample get-up-and-go for passing or evasive manoeuvres. I didnt want to give it back. Hell, even slept in there at beach. Only drawback was the max 24MPG i was getting. They should trash that 2.0 GDI across both KIA and Hyundai and stay with the Atkinson 2.0 for everything which is a superb powerplant!

    Good balanced review. Pick mine up Wednesday as an exchange for my 3yr old Juke Tekna. You comment on the CVT gearbox and that is one thing Nissan REALLY need to look at and why I've opted for the Soul Sport (as it's called in the UK) and it's dual clutch. In today's market the fuel consumption is not good, but that's the price you pay for having the additional power (3 secs better 0-60 than most of its competitors). Looking forward to collecting, but it has taken 3 month and a lot of delays to get my new car from Kia!!

    I just added one of these to my fleet of cars and I have to say I am very impressed.
    If you're looking for something small without losing performance, have some cargo capability to boot and at a fair price?, this thing can't be beat.
    I never really paid any attention to these things and just thought they were 'cute'. lol. After driving this Exclaim however? that has changed.
    I think Kia should make an even hotter version (with the 2.0 turbo). If they did that and kept the price down, they would sell even more.
    Bottom line, don't judge this car until you drive it.

    • @iSlandeRon
      @iSlandeRon 5 лет назад

      While I don't agree with him doing that silly test I can understand the frustration with the bogging down. I have a kia cadenza with 290 HP so it doesn't take much to make its wheels slip. And when I'm making a right turn from a stop if there's any wheel spin ( especially any sand/ wet ) the traction control kicks in too aggressively. The car bogs down badly and it's damn annoying. Especially when you're trying to merge into fast moving traffic.

I wouldn't need more cargo space than enough to hold a medium suitcase and a couple small bags of groceries. I also don't think my parents would be comfortable riding with a new driver so not too concerned about passengers either. Any thoughts? Daisy May I'm a 20 year old girl and I wanted one lmao. Got a manual Elantra instead, I actually enjoy it. Soooooo many people told me these cars are shit. If it gets you from point a to point b don't be ashamed . I doubt anyone will make fun.

    For the record, my mother has a 2016 base model kia soul with the 6 speed auto, slowest thing on the planet. 13 second 0-60. Also, we just took it from Fl to NY and the suspension is HORRIBLE. You feel every single bump and we believe there is actually an issue with the suspension now. taking it to dealer soon

    A good set of tires would go a long way on this car it seems

    Having no cooled seats and the extra safety features on the top of the line exclaim turbo does seem weird.

  • @monkeyboywynnsr
    @monkeyboywynnsr 7 лет назад

    For anyone wondering why they don't put the turbo on the 2.0 where it belongs is because it'd turn that FWD transmission into pudding. All of us V8 FWD Impala SS owners know all about that.

    • @Lrules364
      @Lrules364 7 лет назад +1

      Then the answer would be to build a 4 speed transmission with overdrive, that would be up to the task of handling the added power. GM never understood this, and thats why the impala ss and other 5.4 powered cars have transmission issues.

    I'd be interested in this car if KIA rectified the missing cooled seats and reduced the road noise (more sound dampening). Bad highway MPG due to it's design though is still a negative due to the fact that the majority of my driving is on highways.

      Does any car under 30k come with that though? I had a 2015 challenger with it, was fun but something i could live without in a performance vehicle let alone an economy mini suv
