Love seeing your reviews. Especially when they are on a whiskey i can actually obtain and afford. This was a great one as I learned a lot about the distillery and the whiskey. I've got a bottle and am really looking forward to getting to it after this. Thanks for posting!
Just opened the bottle yesterday and shared it my family. Got many compliments and even the ladies who are mainly wine drinkers actually enjoyed it. I was hoping you would do a review. Bam, you did the review on the next day. Cheers!!! Oh, and we were also having steaks with it.
Just bought a bottle yesterday and even though I dont care for bourbon neat (yet...like anything else if you stick with it long enough) It sure makes an incredible old fashioned, not to bad & $49.67 out the door.
I've been an AE fan since the first time I tried it, about 6 years ago. Finally went to their distillery about a week ago. Fantastic tour! The tasting comes paired with chocolates, which was also great! Hopefully since you made this video you've had a chance to test out the rye. As much as I love their bourbon, I think their rye is on a whole other level!
I just got this in the Rye and it’s utterly delicious. The mash bill is 95% rye finished in rum and cognac barrels for 18 months. Pricey at $90 but worth every penny at 50% ABV
Great review. I always buy your affordable suggestions but I haven't bought this one yet , been tempted a few times but it's 80 dollars in Ontario. When rare breed is 68 or kc 120 is 66 ( both awesome) it's hard to spend the extra $ on a much lower proof whiskey. Cheers.
I have to say as good as the Angels Envy line is I’m surprised you don’t see more wine finished bourbons. I did enjoy the port finish but was floored by the Caribbean rye!
The story about macadamia nuts in Hawaii when you were young was a cool story. It’s always cool when nosing and tasting notes reminds one of experiences specific to one’s childhood
Great video. Keep it up Bill! I just stated drinking whiskey because of your videos. So far, I've had Jameson, Monkey Shoulder, Maker's Mark and Buffalo trace. I think I am more of a Bourbon guy. However, I feel kind of weird, because I am in my 20s and my friends only drink beer ect. I'll try to teach them to appreciate the finer stuff too :D
What a great review! You’ve really upped the B roll game (not that you had to but it’s super cool). Your first smell sounded like Darth Vader going in for a nosing. I say that as a Star Wars fan. It’s a good thing :) I agree with your review 100%. I had this for the first time with a food friend on a business trip. I had such a fond memory about the trip, the company, and the Angel’s Envy that I worried it wouldn’t live up to my memory when I have it again. Well, I bought it about a month ago and cracked it open last week. It totally lived up to the memory hype.
You're killing it with these intros. I personally think this is a bit too proofed down and wish it was closer to $40. I generally enjoyed finished whiskey and while I do like this, $50+ puts it in competition with some seriously stiff competition bourbon-wise.
Just tried this...definitely enjoy it. It's weird but it sort of reminds me of Glenmorangie's The Lasanta...subtly fruity and sweet with a delicious nutty/vanilla finish. I think it is delicious but I was expecting a bit more of a red wine taste...I wonder what happens when they age it longer in those port barrels.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary That's why I thought it was a bit strange actually...I would need to taste them both side by side but for some reason it brought some memories of The Lasanta.
Great video, love to finally see what you thought of Angel’s Envy! If the distillery has only been functioning since 2016, do you know when they will release their first batch of completely self-produced whisky? I tried to look it up but couldn’t find anything, so I’m guessing it will be within the next two years or so, but I want to be ready to run to the store once it comes out!
It's worth 40 maybe 45. But, I don't buy it anymore because its closer to 60 where I live. It's just not that good for that price. However, it is a cool bottle. :)
I bought a bottle about a month ago for $55 and was pretty disappointed. It's a fine bourbon, but I was hoping for something more unique tasting for that price.
So...... I have another question I’m hoping you can answer. Is a whiskey still aging once it is bottled ? My thinking is how wine changes and improves in the bottle over the years. Does whiskey continue to evolve once bottled? Hope that makes sense. Thx in advance for any thoughts.
It actually doesn't. Once whiskey is bottled it's a finished product. Wine continues to age because of some of the solute that's diluted in the wine. Whiskey ages specifically when it's in the barrel.
I poured mine, started the video, and accidentally finished it right before the tasting. Whoops. I want to do this right, so I'm going to go pour another.
Hi , enjoy your reviews and info. I have a question.., I understand that for whiskey to legally be called bourbon you can only age it in a charred oak barrel. How is this still labeled bourbon if it’s finished in the port wine barrel? I’m comparing it to Alabama style which is bourbon finished in Apple barrels but can’t be legally called bourbon. I hope my question makes sense
It totally does! Great question. I'm guessing you're talking Clyde May's. Bourbon needs to be 51% corn, aged in New charred oak barrels, and a few other requirements. The addition of apples is what really does Clyde May's in. Finishing in an ex port barrel is ok, as long as there is under a certain amount of port left in the barrel. It's a weird designation and comes down to definition rather than what's actually being made
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary makes sense. Yes I was referring to Clyde Mays. Thanks for replying also. I’m enjoying a pour of Angels Envy at this moment. Ha. In my budding bourbon ‘ hobby ‘ my fav at this point is Basil Hayden’s I bet you’ve reviewed that. If not for sure you MUST drink some. Ha. Thx again.
I haven't found Angels Envy in my province yet, but I intend to grab a bottle if I do. It's probably like $70 here in Quebec. Also, I don't have a steak-with-a-bowie-knife memory, but my main channel is a bushcraft channel, and I *do* have a cutting-peppers-with-an-axe video: ruclips.net/video/X4lVxdvG6Oc/видео.html
This is pretty terrible Bourbon for the cost. Bowman Port finish is half the price and is better. I’d rather grab Rare Breed, 1920, Knob Creek 12, Russell’s Single, Stagg Jr, ECBP, ect, ect, ect.
86 proof, no age statement, $50. Sounds like a rip off to me. I had it and it’s slightly better than $20 Buffalo Trace. This is a Bourbon for beginners and for marketing.
Loving the whiskey collection shelves in the background. Also I loved Angels Envy if I do say so myself!

Thats awesome! What a fun coincidence
This is the first bourbon I bought specifically to sip. I love it. It is really a lovely one for the summer too as it's nice and light.
Same! Great pick 👍

Bill your new years resolution of quality production shows in this episode. keep it up!!
I agree 100% This is one of my favorite bourbons.. Honestly haven’t pictured a second one yet after 22 years of bouncing around bourbons.

I remember it being good but not mind blowing. That was a long time ago but now that Im into sherry scotch I wonder if I should revisit this one.

Good to hear. I've been putting off buying it for a while
This is great whiskey! In my top 5 for sure! Great review as always👍

Great video, angels envy is a great beginner bourbon. I got my brother loving Bourbon after a pour of the Envy!
I still enjoy a pour now and then.

Thanks. They've been my 2nd favorite behind almonds forever
AE is fantastic. So smooth and fun! Thanks for the informative video.
It's my favorite!
That intro though.... my wife thought I was nuts....
I'm glad you liked it! I had a blast making it
Nuts.. like Macadamia ;)

Most people start with bourbon and move into other expressions. I'd say you're perfect
You should try Wild Turkey, I bet you would love it!
I really like how the port is balanced and not overwhelming. Too many finished whiskies taste more like the finish than the whisky and are unbalanced.
Thats totally for sure

Another great video.... makes me want to grab a bottle when it’s available here. Btw - LOVE the whisky collection behind you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This reminds me that I have a bottle that I've not really touched since I first opened it. I guess I know what I'm sipping tonight. 😁
Cool let me know what you think!

just ordered angel's envy and balcones brimstone. Can't wait to try both!
can you also review thr Balcones Brimstone? 😁
This one is on my list ... let’s see if you recommend it or not

The Rye is amazing
Good, but originally distilled by MGP.
I would like to see your opinion on slipknot iowa whiskey
I bought a bottle about a month ago for $55 and was pretty disappointed. It's a fine bourbon, but I was hoping for something more unique tasting for that price.
Agree. For $50 this is weak
Very nice intro...
Thanks!

I usually get a strong note that reminds me of blueberry pop-tarts lol
I am new to Bourbon. I enjoyed Buffalo Trace and even Jim Beam but did not like high rye bourbons like Bulleit or Old Forester. Should I try this?
This would be right up your alley I think
What are some of the weird things you have done with macadamia nuts?
Love the bottle, $55 in my area. 🤭
I just got it for 38...score!
Just saw this in costco for 28-ish dollars... and Glenlivet enigma for 90. Wondering how that tastes like
Wow 28 for the Angel's Envy? Thats an amazing price
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary My bad... I asked my friend to check again since he's going there, it's 38... Still pretty good though
Does this taste anything like the elijah craig small bourbon batch? I guess I'm particular about my booze, but I hated the Elijah craig!
To me? Not at all
Great review! Loved the old picture!
Yea. I used to be happy!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary and you used to like my cooking.

Believe it or not, I haven't reviewed it! I've had it but not for about 10 years
If ever in New Mexico your'e welcome in my whiskey vault !
Where can I buy this from in the UK?
Unfortunately I have no idea.
Late reply, but if you haven’t yet found it, the whiskey exchange and the whiskey shop have it now
It's not exploration is called we're getting drunk lol

Completely disagree but thats what makes this a subjective hobby
Of all the bourbons I’ve tried this one consistently has a top note of paint thinner. So many bourbons are infinitely better than this stuff.
The neck pour gives me that note, but after a bit in the glass or from the bottle the following day, it really mellows out for me.
You should really paint your walls a different color...I want to shave my eyes
Hah I love the color
The bottle is pretty ugly looking in my opinion.
Whaaaat? Have never heard that opinion before. I always liked the bottle although it does take up a lot of space and is tall, I like the bottle
