he does it so gracefully
I believe Einstein studied the energy created in a pit
This is pre”mosh” stuff, when pit stuff was called “slamming.” Good old-fashioned circle pit, not out to intentionally hurt anyone, will help out anyone that goes down (a lot of stomping boots wizzing by), knees and elbows, forward flip off the stage, bathed in sweat fuckin’ mayhem and I loved every second of it!
Idk...some of those clips have some aggressive mosh shoving
@@Illcastashadow1 and everyone was cool with it because it’s fun

@robdiesel1579 yeah this shitnis cringe. Used to love decking the dorks doing this lame shit.
I love how he is demonstrating the techniques of slamming 🤣
Something so ironic about it but I can't quite put my finger on it lmfao
That is kinda silly.
i didnt realize there was a tutorial for this. normally i would just do whatever while pushing people away.
hahahhah true! Even in this video, when we see the real scenes, they are not how he is teaching! :D
I did it when I was young and it was one hell of a lot of fun. Nobody ever got hurt. May not look like it, but there was control and rules.
Yes dude and it's like the ones that didn't understand that and did the most and went way to extra were the ones that got there ass kicked for being assholes and stuff
Yeah it was all about bouncing off ppl and keeping moving, if someone fell, you'd help them back up, and they'd pick you up when you did. No fists flailing in the early 80s👍
Footage shows Bad Religion.
The song playing is "Mass Hysteria" by Social Distortion. Their best song.
Awesome, people who say this sucks have never been to a show and don't understand how much fun this is.
Many people criticise this stuff but what they fail to realise is that this is how moshing started, it was the punk and hardcore movement that helped pave the way for many of the metal and heavy rock bands that are around today.
what the fuck did i just watch?
+Xaphan6669 something hilarious..
I originally saw this clip on the 80's documentary titled "Another State of Mind" following Social Distortion and a few other bands on a nation-wide tour. The video was originally release on VHS and recently (within the last 4 years or so I believe) became available on DVD.
I feel like this should win an award or somethin
Who here from zilla’s story

Artur Voveris me lol
Haaa
Me lmfao
Who isnt lmao
There's nothin' quite like Moshing.
UnexpectedWonder moshing is for poseurs. Slam pit, not mosh!!
@@pumasgoya Moshing and Slamming both came from HxCx

I think that slam dancing is awesome I do it when I go to shows. people in this comment section will laugh and make their little comments. because they don't understand that it's an energy release plus how else would you dance to this besides slam dancing and pogoing? answer me that! you people talk about slam dancing is stupid oh really you wanna see stupid look up hardcore dancing! it pissed me off that they call that moshing now it's not!
Yes sir, no karate in the pit!
Hate how they call it moshing slaming is a huge circle of dancing and adrenaline which is fun. So is skanking to ska such as the specials and op ivy and stuff
It looks pretty cool to me
your a crack head lol, all i gotta say
Gotta stop being so damn friendly with these ppl talking shit I mean most of them are just the typical lameos and who knows how they got here anyway
How high are you?
Yes.
One and only time I participated in a mosh/slam pit was at a Gwar concert in Kentucky. I loved it. Regret not doing it more often.
I like it when people do this at shows, cuz its fun and no ones really tryin to hurt anybody.
not the invisible ninja stuf that everyone does nowadays
From zillakamis ig. Who else
i don’t remember if zilla posted this, i’ve never seen the comments to this video till now and i love that there are city morgue fans here
@Sergio what you mean sergio
WARDOGS TAKE THIS PLACE
Another State of Mind is really good film worth checking out if you can even find a copy.
lol, wow...I never heard of this type of dance before...
I'm taking a quiz that will tell me where I should get pierced, and it just asked me if I enjoy slam dancing. I normally just call it moshing but I'm glad I looked this up because this video is great.
That’s my cousin. we just picked him up from the airport. Got proof on Facebook too!
Slam dancing was such a blast! Dangerous, but really fun!
Was?? I'm 34 and still slamming at shows. Just as fun as when I was 15! 🤘
Lol dangerous

As a gen x I saved this video years ago and then lately it disappeared. Got it back. 58 yr in 2023. This guy is older. So cool
1:13 OMG That was perfectly synced!
I imagine that human pinball would look alot like this.
my dad told a story, when he was my age back in the 80s scene, he worked for Golden Voice and knew this guy. He told me a story of how this guy nearly beat this one guy too death at a show at the Olympic Auditorium. crazy stories
I was there. The Olympic was amazing. It’s crazy how huge Goldenvoice is now.
REAL HARDCORE SLAM DANCING, MOSHING. KEEP THE SPIRIT ALIVE.
Who’s here from Zillakami
Brock Spence lmaoo same he wants real moshpits at his shows not just standing and jumping around
Brock Spence me
Brock Spence me
Brock Spence duhhhh
Frost xLegendzx lmaoo tight, don’t rlly listen to him but cool to know he wants real pits
that first clip was beautiful
You're right, but I'm glad he did this. I've been to so many shows where no one gets it.
Nice, this will make for a great gif.
This looks so stupid, but I bet its so much fun. I want to push a bunch of people right now
hahah +1 xD
this reminds i cant wait to see X and the a few days later ima see loc and the casualties
I love this guy
Hear hear. There's enough "this is normal because I do it" bullshit out there. Sometimes think we're back in the 50's. Slamming/skanking makes me feel the music, others, pain and euphoria.
Notice how my buddy Brian never mentions "moshing." That's because there is no such thing a moshing in Punk Rock! It is called slamming dammit!
I love this doc about Youth Brigade and Social D
Pretty cool video
I'm here from the RT Podcast from when Burnie said they would slam dance to The Bangles.
these pits are usually proper friendly. As soon as you fall down someone picks you up and despite what it looks like, rarely anyone gets hurt. Its proper fun.
It looks funny when you're doing it alone xD
@misfits765, moshing, as characterized by an up and down movement of the head/neck/shoulders, is distinctly different to slam dancing as demonstrated in the vid. Another post asks if moshing is for metal and slam dancing is more punk/ska thing and he's absolutely correct (although the metal noobs are blurring the line with slam dancing for metalcore and deathcore bands), these distinctions are never 100% but as a generalization, this explanation is correct.
I dig it.
Came here from AngryJoe.
same, this kinda reminds me of a dog casing its tail
awesome shoes that guy has
Somehow I managed to find this out all by myself. Turns out it wasn't that difficult after all. ;-)
U R CORRECT!
when i was in punk bands in the late 90s the pits we had were good ole punk rock pits. we emulated 80s hardcore and new day thrash but hardcore pits kept clear. there was nothing to prove at our shows other than your own commitment to the scene - however silly that may seem now - it meant something then.
LOL! Texas two stepping . . . that's a funny observation. They are moving with the traditional line of dance, actually. And none of the places where I slammed in the 80s had people running in a circle. It was more chaotic pushing and shoving than anything.
What shirt is Brian wearing
LOL that guy gets rocked at 1:13 haha
oh yeah... back in the day
City Mourge knows what sup💯💯
hey whats the song they play though... idk but if it would be between social D and Youth Brigade i would think its a youth brigade song but idk help me on this one
Perfect. Now do it with a groove in it
On the previous summer holidays I was pogo dancing during the Woodstock festival (the biggest Rock festival in Europe, the entrance is completely free) in Poland, I had my rib broken and he lost 3 teeth :]
Don't pogo with a band of spiked death metals!
It's from the movie "Another State of Mind"
How this guy is able to wear creepers in a pit i dont know, mine barely stay on walking down the street
ahh.. the good old days when slam dance was a beatiful thing.. :)
i wanna know where randy from log got his style of slam dancing from
what kind of shoesare those? :o
Cual es la canción del final?
expert village of the 80s
Thanks for explaining this...it was difficult to look up. Slamming is not allowed in my school, and I really don't get why, but ok...
There is no real "wrong way." Only when someone starts just hitting, aimed punching, etc. he will be getting some heat. But it is usually short-lived.
Haha I remember trying to do this as a teen but I was too tall and akward to even show some sort of rythm. Thats why I just stuck with tossing people left and right. Good times.
lol I forgot how to slam, so I searched this to remind myself HAHAHAHAHA
The movie didnt show any guys with bent knees. In fact they could not bent because they where constantly pushed around : )
lots of people still slam, skank, whatever you wanna call it. As long as punk lives people will remember :)
hahaha, oh wow.
the guy w the mohawk at 1:19 rocks
@MrBowskii skanking has more hip motion and it looks like ur doing the running man/twist while drunk
yeah i kno i oppened the thing after but yeah i just saw the whole movie about 20mins ago
AHH the good ol roots of HxC
headbanging's good enough for me
this is sooo funny.
nice DISCHARGE shirt man
well, im very new to all this, never been to a concert actually, but ill be seeing lamb of god for first time ever, or any band for that matter lol, not to say i dont go out, i just never been into this scene, im more of a trance/dnb kind of guy, but im open minded and willing to go out and appreciate this. i dont like to criticise what i know nothing about. im gonna go, and jump in that Wall of Death and Circle Pit madness! =D
Best thing about this video is the
Discharge shirt 😁
This has to be from before 86 then 🤣

1:12, that guys gets THROWN so hard. Right after he said people will be there to pick you up.
This was the real deal. All that aggro macho bullshit that came later totally ruined the experience. But when it was golden it was the greatest thing ever.
Do fights ever get started? Say for example someone gets pushed or slammed into the wrong way?
Yeah. Some people go into pits to fight but that shits not ok. Most of the time other people in the pit will break it up. You go in to dance not to fight.
That was just a classic traditional style of Texas two stepping my brother....
Yo where can I get those pants?? I’m being serious
@EyeMOweKay loads of stuff. I really like punk bands and gigs. The only unfriendly pit was a Sick of it All gig at Leeds festival, and I think that was coz it was full of normal festival goers and not punks/skins. I seen SOIA at another gig in Manchester and everyone was cool.
Does anyone know what song is being played?
Nice howto. Do you have a wikihow page?
what song is bad religion playing in the bits of the concert
bubby492 mass hysteria- social distortion. Cmon man.
Didn't realize I was a ballet dancer, cool.
yo man there are still is commitment to the scene... alot of posers though whom say they're punks and shit got the bands down but still like to kill it for everybody and destroy the whole reason they got into punk... but the pits are still decent in the punk scene right now NO KARATE CHOPS AT OUR SHOWS
This guy lives in Hawaii now, seen at some local shows
Yaah ok. Trust me what I can do is more true to dancing than whatever this is. I let myself go to the music, but not in this way at all. Even if you don't think the main goal isn't pushing people around, in these videos that is -all- I see, and I've seen people getting hurt in these videos too. Yes dancing is about letting yourself go to the music, but if it's to a point where you are shoving/pushing/hurting others..maybe it's not the best way to express yourself.
lol the guy in the black jacket getting creamed @1:12
agreed. Whatever happened to warped tour being a punk tour? the only bands I see that are quote "punk" bands are mostly the same bands that have been touring since the 80's, with some newer bands/ local bands. But otherwise a lot of crap has worked its way onto that tour :( Definitely not a poser if you go to warped to see bands you like :)
couldnt agree more mate, a lot of metal bands are influenced by early punk bands
Your parents must be so proud.
I be slammin bro lol
