i'm here cause i've just discovered that jenna ortega in the netflix series "wednesday" personally coreographed her dancing scene taking inspiration from goths dancing in the 80s. i love this so much, wow.
For a short time between the mid/late 80's to early 90's, some people called goths death rockers. If people called goths in the late 90's ravers, we weren't happy. They had their own thing going on.
@kyfaydfsoab I'm not making up what I said. EVERYONE in the 90's, imitators or not, used the term Ravers for the ones that weren't totally Goth at that time. Maybe not where you're from, but where I'm from, YES, they DID. Doesn't matter what decade they originated from. Of course the originals would be a decade earlier.
The cult playing in the background makes it that little bit more awesome to watch. My Goth days when i was younger i wouldn't change for the world. You could dance how you wanted alone or in groups and you were never judged at all. I miss those good old days. This has been great to watch.
I came from the Punk scene into Goth. At the time of this video, Punk had imploded here in London, and out of that came the Goth scene and the New Romantics. You can see both influences here, before they split completely.
My parents always rave about how the fun the 80s were. They used to go clubbing and dancing and talk how safe it was back then. I wish I could go with my SO but It doesn’t feel safe clubbing anymore. My parents agree it’s not the same and it makes them sad. I hope things can change so maybe my kids can enjoy without fear of being shot up.

Felix Blackwood Im the Nostalgic Gen Xer mocking them dance. Loved the music. But there are posers in every Generation. These are Robots not Goths. Lol. I was waiting for the Benny Hill theme song to start playing after they pulled out some glowsticks.
theres a goth nightclub where i live thats been going since the eighties. its the only club on the strip that has never shut down. everyone is welcome. you can dress however the hell you want, never a cover unless they have a band performing. and once in a while they have extremely epic performances. i saw the king of dancehall yellowman there. At a Goth club! also lee scratch perry, its awesome.
I recognize those mohawk hairstyles. When I was in college in the early 1980s, I was having lunch one day when I saw a young guy wearing blue jeans, a black tee shirt, sunglasses, and a mohawk dyed maroon. It was quite a sight for me back then because I had never seen anyone dress like that. 😊
Goth is highly misunderstood, it’s more than just a look or a type of music… it’s a a way of life, a way of being. Most people fail to grasp this, because like most timesless music, it has gone underground. Where all really good music lives, that most people will never even discover or appreciate.
@kyfaydfsoab really… maybe that’s what it means for you. There are music scenes underground all over the world. Maybe you need to go explore, I’ve discovered new music everywhere I’ve traveled. Especially in Chicago where I live there’s a huge music element that most people never experience. The shit that plays on the radio is the crap the industry promotes to entertain the masses who are mostly clueless about good music.
@kyfaydfsoab please stop replying everyone with "Wow fascinating!" omg, don't be offended by the people who discover goth subculture for the first time 😭 as a goth myself I find it great that people get interested by it!!
I’m nearly 57 grandparent still wear similar stuff- eyeliner stopped but still like 1st generation goth - Sisters Mission etc never into the Manson etc but original goth crossover from Punk influences
Ian Asbury of the Cult used to dance on stage like this. It was supposed to be based on tribal native American dance. Ian was always interested in them as he had lived in Canada as a kid.
This makes me smile. Mostly, people danced their own ways. From what i have seen todays "goth" dancing, most look like they are doing Madona's vogue. But That IMHO
Popular steps of the last 20 years (in the eastern US at least): "unscrew the lightbulb", "pine for the grave", "I'm a tree" "hug the bat", "throw the bat", "stomp on the bat"

Just a shout out to anyone who lived and breathed this stuff in their bedrooms and on the dancefloors of all the fantastic Goth/"Alternative" clubs we had in Manchester in the 80s...Cloud 9,The Banshee,Legends,The Playpen, DeVilles,Placemates,Berlin/The Asylum,The Ritz, etc etc etc. And the free Pils,Pay Day Redwitches,And cider and black that kept us warm on the night busses on the way home at 3am.Cxxx
Your shout has just reached me...
Its confirmed that the actress of Wendesday Addams took inspiration
It takes a certain sort of people to understand Goth. I'm proud to be one of them🖤
Serious request. Can you, or someone else explain the culture? What's it about? What is the expression?
Yeah it's depression
@@silkwave5200 BS. It's not depression.
@@voicelover23 I recommend to Google it. There is too much information to make this a short answer. ;-)
@@jeayupila2841 I dont see how a person who hasn't experienced the depth of hollowness can understand goth, at least that's my personal experience
With enough Aqua Net and raw egg yolks, our hair stood in place while dancing for hours.
This is my life on rewind!! Thank you for this!!
Great song by Killing Joke. I still play it for the neighbours.
AWESOME!!!! 1984. ROCKIN OUT . . . Its how the music surges in their spirits.
i'm here cause i've just discovered that jenna ortega in the netflix series "wednesday" personally coreographed her dancing scene taking inspiration from goths dancing in the 80s. i love this so much, wow.
She would of fit in soo perfectly. She slayed it 👏
I was born around this time to a teenage mom and grew up with all this music cos my aunts & mom used to listen to it.
God bless you.
No one called themselves ‘goth’ or even worse, ‘emo’ back then lolllll-we were ALTERNATIVE/PUNK and it was awesome. I miss these days too much. 👀♥️
Exactly, alternative
@@Dark_HarmonyThe Goth ravers are gravers. 😉
@@Pinkythepainter777 I know that. I had one as a boyfriend.
i tried looking up this goth 80s dance because of jenna ortega 💀 issa weird dance but you know they vibin
So much fun with no cell phones and social media
Back then you could get away with so much awesome shit! Great times!
I dance like this. Dude I was literally never there but I fell a strong connection to the dance. Straight vibes
It opens with The Cult - Spiritwalker
Still dancing the same after all these years
The cult playing in the background makes it that little bit more awesome to watch.
I could see them dancing for hours..
well hello there wednesday viewers
💀💀
I danced like this doing the old Turkey dance shoulders to the Cult and Spear of Destiny!
That guy at 0:32 in the black jumper sets my heart racing - he is SO beautiful
Sometimes wish it was 1984 again, I was 21.
I was -4 years old
I was -16
Oh this brings back such fond memories of my goth days back in the 80s. The height for me was between 81 and 84! Great days!
The Cult

15 %..........Why in the hell is this in my video feed, RUclips?
Felix Blackwood Im the Nostalgic Gen Xer mocking them dance. Loved the music. But there are posers in every Generation. These are Robots not Goths. Lol. I was waiting for the Benny Hill theme song to start playing after they pulled out some glowsticks.
100% accurate
At least they're interacting and dancing together and not on discord playing a fucking game.
Rusty Nail These guys might as well be playing Wii Dance.
Some Gen Xrs are laughing at these goofy fuckers.
theres a goth nightclub where i live thats been going since the eighties. its the only club on the strip that has never shut down. everyone is welcome. you can dress however the hell you want, never a cover unless they have a band performing. and once in a while they have extremely epic performances. i saw the king of dancehall yellowman there. At a Goth club! also lee scratch perry, its awesome.
Where?
Name ?
No name = lying ;)
We were 'dance like no one's watching' brought to life.
Jenna ortega definitely watched this when creating her dance in Wednesday
who's here because of the dance from "Wednesday" on Netflix
me

These are Punk rockers! Loved this era and look. This rolled into the goth scene around about this time too. This is a mosh pit!
Jenna Ortega watching this taking notes like:
✍🏼👁️👄👁️
Who else is here cuz they found a short that said Jenna Ortega watched gothic kids dancing in the 80s lol
Jenna Ortega's mention of 80's goth dancing brought me here to see dancing, and now I want to know what the first song is. It's beautiful.
The Cult - Spiritwalker
@@evangelinea.k.mcdowell82 Thank you
@kyfaydfsoab please stop replying everyone with "Wow fascinating!" omg, don't be offended by the people who discover goth subculture for the first time 😭 as a goth myself I find it great that people get interested by it!!
Jenna Ortega, Wednesday, Bloody Mary
Jenna ortega came here
I love the cult. Spiritwalker great song
I’m nearly 57 grandparent still wear similar stuff- eyeliner stopped but still like 1st generation goth - Sisters Mission etc never into the Manson etc but original goth crossover from Punk influences
Very nice thanks for uploading this!! I think Peter Murphy has best gothic moves ever !!
so who came here after watching wednesday ?
Ian Asbury of the Cult used to dance on stage like this. It was supposed to be based on tribal native American dance.
Ian was always interested in them as he had lived in Canada as a kid.
You took the words right out of my mouth. He still kept those moves, even till the Wild Hearted Son video. The Cult are in my top 3, always.
As did Jim Morrison before him. I'm sure that's where he took the idea.
The Cult Spirit walker great song
Love their's look, specially the hair.
This makes me smile. Mostly, people danced their own ways. From what i have seen todays "goth" dancing, most look like they are doing Madona's vogue. But That IMHO
They are all dancing the same way like robots
Theyre just vibing
PolarBearProject OMG that is hilarious how true!
Everyone should dance how they feel like it, there are no rules when it comes to this.
Popular steps of the last 20 years (in the eastern US at least): "unscrew the lightbulb", "pine for the grave", "I'm a tree" "hug the bat", "throw the bat", "stomp on the bat"
me encantaria estar alli bailando. ya no se encuentran lugares asi de buenos
yo igual
Now the kids are watching this video of old Gothic, dance-punk music. lol
My teenage daughter watches that Wednesday TV show too.
Everybody looks so cool!! 😎 It was so good to have an outlet for our physical creative energy by dancing like this, better than therapy lol 👏... I remember those days! awww the Cramps got cut off
Notice in the second dance that some were pushing each other. No fights or guns drawn, unlike today.
