I bought my NC (3rd Gen) in 2013 as a pre Reg. Instantly impressed on my test drive and after 6 years of ownership decided to sell it to friends. They still own it and love touring Europe every summer. I've asked for it back and they refused. Now own a 20 year old 986 Boxster (IMS sorted) and for me they are on a par for weekend enjoyment. Love the colour you bought. 👍
Nothing wrong with having some fun in middle age. You missed out the Eunos named examples from the Japanese home market. There are loads of them have been imported. That is a very good one you’ve found there. Well worth the money for smiles per mile.
Good Man Nobby. I bought a NC 2011 Kendo last year for the same reasons and love it. Got it in NI and total import cost was a little less than €1,000 on top of the purchase price. Great little car and bags of fun.
Oh man, I had the exact same car until four years ago. It was the first car I kind of fell in love with. Just looking at it brought a smile on my face and I miss the wind blowing threw my hair as well as the mix of joy and terror on higher speeds. Enjoy it, man, they are the last of their kind.
Congrats! Great car for "spirited driving", and without getting yourself into trouble too. Damn near bulletproof mechanically. Good idea on the rust proofing. I use the bilt hamber goo myself(easier to apply for the home gamer) and it definitely saved my car. I've heard good things of the lanolin stuff.
@@NobbyOnCars A good thing as Japanese steel tends to need rust protection like a fish needs water😁 Well wear sir and if I ever see you on the roads I'll give you a berp and a wave from my 90's Honda. 👋🙂
MX5 was our daily pre-kids - 1997 model. Brilliant! Hard top for summer (in Australia!), soft top rest of the year. Put in a proper rollbar (black!) which was a great upgrade - tightened up the chassis, safer, and just fitted under hard top as well. Even now, a tight curvy road is a chance to say “this would be great in the MX5”. Have also owned a ‘89 CRX, Mark V GTI, current gen civic hybrid, family bus….. In retirement a classic will join the garage - could it be the 2024 model (in 10 years)??? Looking forward to it!!
Thank you Nobby for making me feel justified again. I recently bought a 2005 Mercedes SLK. 1.8 petrol with less than 80,000 kms on the clock. It's just something to play with and enjoy on a nice day. Because it's a second car for me I was horrified at the insurance companies efforts to charge ridiculous amounts of money to insure it. Hopefully next year I can get classic car insurance at a reasonable price. Enjoy the Mazda MX5. Always loved them.
After 3 Corvettes, I bought a 2022 RF 6 speed. At 75, this was a BIG mistake on my part. No glove box, crappy cup holder location and constant shifting. Man the car was small! I get it for someone in the 20’s to 50’s age range. I sold the Miata and bought another C-6 coupe. More room, faster, great handling and I can carry more than a knapsack in the rear. To each his own, I guess. The realization that I made a mistake was when I drove it 600 miles home from Florida. Just felt squeezed in.
Fair play to you for producing this video and making most of your viewers reflect on what they are going to buy to get them through their mid life crisis. 😅
Nice colour and to be fair it looks tidy I bought a metallic red one with leather red & black seats it was nice but I just didn't use it routinely to get the fun often enough. It did start to show rust so keep a wary eye out or get busy with waxoyl.
That's a VGC MX5 and unusual to find a rust-free example. Be sure to cavity wax it as well as the underbody protection that you have already done. You can improve the handling even more by fitting quality coilovers and lowering it slightly, plus upgrading the anti-roll bars too. But maybe with such a rare unmolested car it's worth keeping it standard. I'd lose the 'syle bar' ( fake roll bar ) but that's a personal choice. This vid has made me reconsider getting rid of my NB MX5 to buy a Boxster - what will I do??
Great looking car and congrats on the find. I’m 6 years into my mid-life crisis MX5/Miata ownership and I doubt I will be without one for as long as I can drive them. It brings a smile to my face every time I get behind the wheel.
@@anybleepinusername Eh don't think so that's definately not a factory finish it's way too heavy, some guy with a can of stone chip protector and a sealer gun- i know because i ran my own bodyshop and we fitted these sills and arch panels many times.
Defo needs a turbo on it and mod it a bit, get it ppf sealed for protection andlove the colour, there such a great car and better than a boxer and cheaper to run and maintain I I was you and could afford to I would defo keep it 👍
you did get there first 👩🦲🤣and good point about SUVs , I remember almost driving over a s2000 you just cannot see them if they are next to you or approaching from the wrong angle
Wow nice find at 26000 miles keep it and enjoy it’s a gem.
That car is just lovely, inside and out, solid purchase. Well wear with her Nobby!

That looks a really nice one and the smile on your face says it all. I own both an NB and an NA Eunos and love them both.
Lovely motor Mark, well wear. Would love something like this in a few years myself. Space on the driveway is my main obstacle.

I have had a mid-life crisis twice now by buying 2 NCs - loved them both.
Just make sure and fully rust protect it.
Best of luck and happy driving with the MX-5. Looks stunning.
Thank you! 👍

It is looking for a new home…
Fantastic toy ! Look after it , a given , and still enjoy driving it in 20 years time.
Years ago purchased a Mk2.5 for my then wife, huge fun to drive and practical too, enjoy but keep an eye on the rust😊

@@MrGrentch yeah it seems very easy to apply from what I’ve used of it. Don’t need any prep, non toxic etc

What a great choice 😊 had my NB for 23 years, happy motoring
23, wow!
I think it's a great choice, fair play to you. Best of luck with it.
Cheers Terry
Had an Eunos Roadster (NA with popup headlights) many years ago. One day I’ll own one again. The best fun on 4 wheels you could have😊
Well Mark ….., nice review there 👏🫡 ….. they are an outstanding motor for sure 🫵 keep up the great shows …… especially you own cars 👏🤩
It looks great - well done.
Thanks!
The most reliable 2 seaters out there and mega fun.
😁 Enjoy the country roads 👍

Yes!
I had an auto mx5.. loved driving it to work on a summers day.. throw back the top and go!
Exactly!
Lovely car, Mark. Good luck with it.

Thanks 👍

Good choice.
I seen when you first post this....loved it then, love it now. Imagine an EV version. 20 years old....classic Insurance then?
I don’t have a classic policy on it as it was only €350 for a normal one but probably next year depending on renewal !
Keep it
Nice example of a little classic 👍 Don't worry about the 'wind in your hair' comment; I say that about the freedom I feel when riding my motorcycle! 😆
Sills might look good Nobby but someone's been at them and finished up by lashing the stone chip on them!
Wasn’t sure if that finish was on them from factory, you see it on some cars lower down. Chassis rails etc also decent so will see how it goes!
If you’re referring to the “stone chip” that’s visible on the sills at 1:36, this is from the factory. They are all like that.

I'll take the Miata over an S2000 or a Booster.
Nice car but it's not a classic, it's not 30 years old to get classic tax and insurance yet
Classic insurance is 20 years

Maybe a advanced driver course would help, or spend 6 months riding a motor cycle either would give another perspective in a constructive way.
