I was lucky enough to get to jam with Glenn when he played at my hometown of Workington in Cumbria UK......we played 'Up the Junction'.. & some Beatles stuff.........he's one of the nicest guys I've met !
Most people in America and my age (20 somethings) think Squeeze is just "the band that did Tempted". I wish they knew how deep and fantastic their catalog is. LONG LIVE SQUEEZE!
Such a stellar version of this song. It's actually almost incomprehensible that Tilbrook sounds so on the mark after all these years. Obviously, the musical ability of both Difford and Tilbrook is greatly underappreciated and it's very likely that they will never see their rightful place in the RandRHF, but their music clearly stands the test of time. Their biggest problem may be that the pop signature to their songs and brilliant lyrics simply didn't fit with the needs of that generation. Perhaps they were 5-10 years too late? Either way, the music is rarefied and still executed with brilliance! CET
Such an intelligent comment for YT! What do you mean 'that generation'? Are you saying the lyrical content was not suited to their era? I do agree that the songs and their talent really do endure and at their best are remarkable. Glenn in particular is so musical.
pigknickers You know, as I look at that comment, I left the meaning a little ambiguous. The point is this. Squeeze arrived in the early 70 and had successes throughout the 70's and early 80's but the music scene was changing and heterogeneous. Their style harkened to an era maybe 5-10 years earlier, and so the magnitude of their success was not fully appreciated. Just a thought. Either way, who can deny their abilities in the pantheon of pop and rock!
CET081466 Not really the early 70s, more like 77/78 at the start of the new wave era. They come from the London pub rock scene like Dr Feelgood, Ian Dury, 101ers, Stranglers, etc. As things changed so rapidly then perhaps this is what you're getting at?
Lennon , McCartney , tilbrook , stevie wonder , Bjorn ulvaeus , paddy macaloon , joe strummer , kate bush ,,im not trying to start a list , just recognising what lucky people were are to be alive when these people are , were ❤️
Really great to see Stephen's playing showed off, never heard him do the boogie woogie thing!

Genius songwriting and performing thank you for sharing your gift of music… way back to Cool For Cats album
it hurts it's so good.
Difford and Tilbrook best song storytelling songwriting is genius. In my humble opinion the best since Lennon and McCartney.
Difford & Tilbrook were once dubbed “the Lennon & McCartney of the 80’s”. I agree.
Wish I had been there to see two of the most important and influential pop masters of the modern age.
Pure Talent
This song will Chang your life.
man these guys knew how to write a pop song with a killer hook
Excellent. Nothing else needs to be said.
These guys are just so good and still going strong. And lyrics to die for in their songs.

Gawd all those flashes going off must have irritated them!

Why the stops in the chorus? ruins the momentum in this version.
Ken Jeong brought me here.
