    Probably the biggest win of Opelka's career. He's in his own lane now. His ability to put away ground strokes and volleys during big points is uncanny. Not to mention Tsitsipas has been in-form as of late. Really happy for him, and I think he has a real good shot against Medvedev, who he's beat already.

      the reason why tsitsipas lost was that he didn't have a good backhand. Opelka took advantage of this mercilessly and played him on the backhand again

    • @florentlemorillon130
      @florentlemorillon130 3 года назад +3

      @@theoneandonly8207 it remind me a conversation i had one week ago and i posted this:
      one handed backhand for all players is always a weakness, it's because of that that tennis players like Federer, Wawrinka, Shapovalov, Gasquet... always turn into their forehands.
      Nowadays tennis consist of good serve, good return , big forehand and hope to not mess up with their one handed backhand when you have no time to avoid your "weak" ( compare to forehand) backhand lol.
      One handed backhand is principally for volleyer but tennis volley have disappeared because they slow down all the courts, grass court , clay court and hard court are not so different because of the uniformisation of all the courts these last decades.
      Moreover One handed backhand are for offensive players because they can take the ball earlier than two handed due to contact point slidely ahead. But the problem is that everyone prefer attacking with a big forehand than a one handed backhand so the utility of this type of backhand is not so obvious.
      To finish the only advantage of tennis player who master one handed backhand is that they have a good slice, but again slice is often too slow and opponent turn rapidly into forehand to attack the slice. Best example is the domination of Nadal Vs federer in that aspect of the game.
      I Find one handed backhand more elegant too but i don't think he could be more stable than a two hander because two hands are always more stable thane one, is just pure logic.
      and here an answer from a member of youtube saying that i 'm wrong.
      @Florent Le Morillon Your knowledge of the backhand technique is extremely outdated and basically describes the one-handed backhand of the 20th century. Almost nothing of what you said applies to the modern one-hander of the 21st century. In fact, the opposite is true in most things (modern one-handers typically have poor, unnatural slice, by far the biggest advantage of the modern one-hander is MUCH greater topspin and sidespin, which is why many modern one-handers with their huge topspin swings are so successful on clay and generally slower surfaces, and suffer on faster surfaces etc.)

      @@florentlemorillon130 One-handed backhands have been on the rise again, likely due to Federer's dominance in the early and mid 2000s. There are advantages and disadvantages with both a one-hander and 2-hander. If a player can handle a heavy topspin shot on the one-hander then I would recommend it more. Federer struggled more with this than some of the other one-handers and Nadal exploited this a lot. A strong slice can work well, and one-handed backhand hitters tend to hit the slice much more comfortably.

Stef's back to the situation of RG and Wimbledon, just brainless, not aware of the problem when his opponent bullied him with the same method once and once again, no adjustment. Even if he got into the final, he'll have little chance to win it in this brainless way. Medvedev imo, has a big chance to win the final, at least he can pack up that second serve very well.

    Tsitsipas falling short again in a match where he had the lead. Opelka played well, but I think there are two issues with Tsitsipas. Firstly, he winds himself up too much. He's lost a lot of matches from winning positions because he can't calm himself down when it matters. Secondly, mats Wilander pointed out a while ago that Tsitsipas isn't the smartest match player. He seems to think that it always just a matter of playing his own game well. Wilander pointed out that smart tennis players know that's only half of the battle, as there will be times when playing your own game will play straight into the hands of your opponent. The other half is finding ways to make your opponent play worse. In this match, you would have thought that the first thing anyone would do against such a tall player like opelka is slice the ball low at his feet. Make him bend and stretch all the way down. But Tsitsipas's slice backhand is truly awful, and he doesn't have the tennis brains yet to know that going all out as he always does often really suits his opponents.
