Once again, sorry for the nasally voice! Still a bit congested and sick which is annoying! If you press the CC button, I've uploaded some subtitles, since my talking can be hard to understand. This is a kind of dividing subject in the community, about the benefits of wrist rests. But I tried my best to explain it from my perspective. If anyone's been using an wrist rests, let me know what you think of them.
You are an Aussie, so you are always hard to understand. :D If I compare you to the pansies with dampened linear switches and a keycap fetish, I like your style more. :)
Tae - you are a very good and fair reviewer. Its not often to find someone who just gives facts and their opinion. After trying many wrist rests with my tenkeyless, I have found that a simple stack of newspapers folded into quarters does an amazing job. fits perfectly, looks normal on a desk, has the right amount of give, can adjust the height. Costs nothing.
I just want to thank you for providing us mech keyboard noobs with very useful videos. I previously thought keyboards are all the same, but damn I was so wrong. I just picked up the Ajazz k33 because of your review - in fact, I got two! looking forward to discovering more mech keyboards (expensive or not) and accessories with you and the rest of your subscribers.
Installing an underdesk keyboard tray is probably the best way to get the right ergonomics without sacrificing space (my biggest issue with wrist rests). I then adjust my chair armrests to keep my arms and wrists level. Unfortunately it doesn't look quite as clean, and being a taller person means my legs rub up against the tray. It'll have to suffice until I can dish out the cash for an entirely new desk.
Tables are most often not see-thru and even if you are able to touch type it's often required to look at your keyboard. These undertesk trays are awful
got a wrist rest a while back and I''ve been using it on and off. Wanted to see other people's thoughts on them. Nice vid! Wrist rest I got was a 75 percent one from gamakay and it wobbles slightly as I use it but not too bad. Aesthetically it looks great on my desk and feels great to use with my tofu65 2.0 and the tofu's amazing flex paired with being able to just rest my wrists for hours without risking carpal tunnel makes long typing sessions super comfortable and nice. I just wish my desk wasn't so wobbly when I type. I was unaware that 160 dollars on a desk is a low amount and wouldn't give you that great of a product
I love the look of the wooden rests but I find that after 6-8 hours at my keyboard they start to give me really sore spots on my wrists, which I don't seem to get with foam or silicone. Wow...this video was posted 7 years ago, I just realised lol.
This is why I think keyboard manufacturers should concentrate on making slimmer mechanical keyboards. I know there are a couple out there, but both have their faults due to type of switches used. Or what would be really slick is if you had a desk with a recessed area that could move up and down for thicker keyboards.
I'm in the same boat, I don't have a wrist rest because it takes up a lot of room and I've never really felt the need for one. I also don't have a very large desk at work.
4 years late but you should get one if you're not hovering your wrists manually. If you don't you will develop a hump on the bottom of your wrist and it's really not good and WILL hurt when you get older. Why do you think beginner pianists are training hard to hold their hands the proper "apple gripping" way? Exactly because of that
i have never liked to used wrist rests but i have wrist pain when i used the keyboard for long periods my mechanical keyboard came with one so i decided to put it and well i can say i wont be removing it is really nice no more wrist pain
I hate how people take appearance over functionality, I have a gel wrist rest from the 90's works great, doesn't make my setup look nice, but since my table is quite tall compared to the max height of my chair this is kind of necessary for me to have.
I dislike the foam wrist rests as mine broke. I know that it might seem difficult to, as it is a wrist rest that costs $25ish dollars, but unfortunately, the bottom that is covered up by rubber is made of cardboard that creases if the wrist rest is bent. If you buy this wrist rest, do NOT bend it, for it will never be the same after that. I had the thin, tkl version
I got a really painful sprain after being on my keyboard at a sharp angle for too long, so I compromized and made a wrist rest myself but get a thick, long pice of wood, and wrapped it in cloth
I've had mild Carpal Tunnel for years, and I just can't type on my desktop without a beaded wrist rest that goes the length of my 10 keyless and my mouse as no matter how hard I've tried over the years I end up dragging my wrist on my desk. My only problems with beaded wrist rest are that they do tend to wear out over time, & can be harder to clean.
Thanks for your input. Do you think a 60% (compact) wrist rest would suffice then? for a tenkeyless keyboard, since that's where our hands are concentrated?
but how much do the TOOLS cost to make said piece of wood... you gotta take into account all the woodwork and advertisement that goes into this "overpriced" piece of wood
i suffer RSI and tendonitis from bad ergonomics while using the pc . my advice would be lowering the table where the keyboard and mouse is placed. no need for wrist rests just proper posture save your wrists :)) ps: you have sexy keyboards
Hey Tae. Would you review the GMMK v2 and such? I really would like to see your opinion over it, especially as I'm interested on buy one. I just fell a little hesitant as I saw some negative reviews on reddit and so...
It really depends on how you think about it. I am doing a research regarding the positioning of arm wrist when we are typing a keyboard and the impacts it does to our hand, at least not in the current time but as time passed by and we get older, the positive slope(keyboard height is higher than our wrist) will damage our wrist nerve and eventually causes carpal tunnel syndrome an thats why you see people wwho did lots of work with keyboard tend to have their hands shaky when they get older in their life....
I don't like using wrist rest with slim keyboards like the realforce because it kinda blocks the spacebar. However I think I like them with taller high profile keyboards. Either way I really like the look of the wrist rests :)
my glorious wooden wrist rest is 2 years old, its alrdy worn trough the paint on the left side, rubber feet peeling off little by little. Its way early but it alrdy needs replacement, not going to be the same. Also imo the angle is kinda stupid.
It depends how high the closest side of the keyboard is. Your keyboard is quite high in height and therefore the lower wrist rest is not as suited. To me, I have a very low profile keyboard so the thinner wrist rest works better for me. Overall, you want to get a wrist rest that is about the height of the side of keyboard that is closest to you.
alright. sorry, i must have missed that, but my option still doesn't change. It just find it as kind of a cringy brand idea. I feel like it would be better if the branding was on the bottom instead of the top.
Can't buy it because it has a brand I don't like on it, lol grow up. Take into consideration other factors. Like, hmm, how comfortable is it? What thickness is ideal for my wrists? Don't dawdle on meaningless shit.
Briggseey what do you mean? it's my opinion, and I just don't like their branding. I am sure there are alternatives that are higher quality, and don't have their branding on it. I don't think I have to "grow up" if I prefer clean and minimalistic products that don't have cringy brand names on them.
and then there is people like me who are short with a small chair, raised desk and small keyboard where the wrist rest would just be for comfort and aesthetic rather than actual usage and better wrist positioning...........
Unfortunately I don't really have one, since I have to constantly swap when testing keyboards. I unbox the keyboards, and use them for a while, and then repack it for video :) When I can, I use my Realforce 87U.

They make it wrong this wood wrist rest, it's too deep 10cm should be 8cm it's enough, also front is of it is too hight and all edges shoud be rounded.
Those wrist rests are adressing the problems that shouldnt't exist. Low profile keyboard or laptop keyboard won't put much strain on wrists, and desk won't be cluttered with useless gadgets.

Usually most really don't like hover typing especially if you are gaming
which do you recommend between the 25mm and 13mm? I am using a standard tkl keyboard. Hope you reply on this taekeybs. thanks!
What is the wrist rest pictured at 5:24 called? Thanks
My problem is not really the wrists but more with the elbows/forearms because I have it like against the corner of the table, any tips?

Just to be clear the bone should touch the wrist rest right? Not the like where the vins are
I couldn't get used to one.
My fingers get so cramped when trying to type on the lower row of the keyboard.
Great video and very helpful.
How would these fit the drevo excalibur, its quite low already but these look pretty nice.
The 60% version (which is 1 key column shorter) of the wrist rest would come pretty close.
