This is something I desperately wanted to make and yeah, if you couldn't tell, is also my first time really writing something like it and editing. I am not sure I did a good job as it was actually quite hard depicting how much of a good series it was but I urge you all if you haven't watched it already, to please do.
I know its quite serious so this is new for meeeeee
And if you hate it, at least my parents liked it.

That was way more emotion than i was expecting.
*like*
"I know serious videos aren't what most of you want."
Not true, keep on like you have this year and make the videos *you* want to make not just the ones you expect us to want. Much less stressful and we might surprise you.
Serious tone videos are appreciated here
Syd keeps climbing the IRL waifu list
ha
*Eternal Suffering* she's actually in my top tier rank
same, now i need to find a way to get this gigguk guy out of the picture...
gigguk is my maximum strike ZONE
Bokurano is more of a character study than a battle mecha anime
aditya saran I just commented the same thing. Totally agree.
Honestly, most mecha anime are less about the mecha and more about the stories, characters and situations.
Nge is also like this you should watch it.
Agree.
Same for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The last 2 episodes where like a Therapy Session for Shinji and the other main characters.
Just to let you know miss snaps you might also want to read the manga. Apparently the directors hated the original ending and ask if he can change it.
Also great video👌
Busted musket Productions miss snaps wtfdd
I got into the anime first but I recommend the manga over the anime 1000%. The anime is comparatively watered down.
I'll definitely read the manga its on my list
If you wanted to show Gigguk that you could make a Gigguk style video better than him, you've done it! Congratulations for your second best video to date, though I think the outro was a little bit abrupt, maybe you could have let the feeling sink a few more seconds
yeah i agree ending was too quick
Aaah! I'm so happy seing someone watching and talking about this anime like that
This anime breaks my heart but give me also so much; it's really one of my favourite ones
I have seen it two years ago and now that I watched this video, I feel my heart melting - and I was about to cry
I love so much how you talked about Bokurano, thank you
(sorry for my English, I'm French)
Bokurano got me so hard as a middle schooler. I went from Gurren Lagan to something almost the complete opposite of it 😂
You did a great job, Syd. This video made me feel melancholy, and that's the way I think it should be. I'm going to go watch Bokurano right now.
It's been a long time since this show was brought up. While I haven't initially watched it, I'm looking to fix that asap.
and no, your closing statement didn't make me tear up or anything!
Daichi and Mako deserved so much better, so damn much better, so did Ano. Kanji and Moji(?) are the best boys
very nice video syd, you manage it amazingly to capture the beauty of your own nostalgia and memory of this anime. I seriously felt how important this anime is to you. the only critique that i would have is that the audio of your voice is too quiet compared to the background music. keep up the good work. :)
Eureka Seven was the anime that got me into mecha. I literally hated mecha so much... But E7 ... It changed everything.
The OST, the feels. E7 became my #1 anime of all time.
Break Blade is the one that got me into mecha. It was so good that i couldn't stop looking for more after i was done.
Nothing wrong with a serious video...very well written.
Idk Syd but i think alot of people would like videos like this every now and then. Tbh when people make videos like this to me it makes a very strong impression of not just the topic but you yourself as a person. Its the same reason I like to watch gigguk, i like the funny vids but a serious one every now and then is refreshing to say the least. Also I love your Misato Voice Over o/ ty for doing it right.
Bokurano is my all-time favorite show and i'm so glad to hear it talked about! This video put a lot of my thoughts into words in ways I don't know how to explain
This was an amazing video! I even got a little choked up at the end because of the anime's message and how powerfully it affected you.
First serious video I've ever seen you do and I have to applaud you, it was very moving. Nice job here, that was so touching I really felt the sincerity in your tone.
Ooooo, I never knew that you uploaded a discussion video! Anyway, I can't say I'm really into mecha myself, but there are two mech series that I actually like (Code Geass and DarliFranXX) I have considered watching Bokurano since I've heard its another anime like the two I've mentioned where its not so much a mecha, but a drama. Whenever you decide to edit your next discussion video, recommend lowering the music. It was very difficult for me to hear you, so I ended up turning on captions.
Bokurano is kinda grim, but inspiring at the same time. It's very telling that even if your channel tends to be comedy oriented, you share your thoughts in a serious and even respectful way about this anime. I liked that.
Thanks a lot for your retrospective
Calm, non screaming Sydney is surprisingly soothing and eloquent. I approve. Please share more facets of your personality with us again.
I love this video. Definitely one of the strongest recommendations I have seen someone give their audience. Very well made and writen.
Nice work! I'd love to see more videos like this
Damn Syd you shocked me you hooked me in w/ the anime im aboutta cook up some food and binge watch
You have such a soothing voice. Just found your videos, and I love them. Subscribed :) xx
really a lot of emotion put into the video, the editing was the only part that felt a little off, like at the end that the music could fade out with the images but was just abrupt, but that is something that by practicing you will really master it, so just be your better self (like always) and you would notice how you improve over time! :) Sorry for broken english though...
This made me cry
Wow I must say this is very well written. Your words moved me too tears. I will be checking this out because of your video. 10 out of 10.
Excellent video! I enjoy how branching out to do something different to your past videos. I’ll give this anime a try, thanks to you. Keep up the tremendous work!
I can't believe I watch the anime squad but missed out on your vids, NEVER AGAIN I PLEDGE LOYALTY
Glass reflections pulling through
Goodness you made me cry.
This is an amazing video, you should be proud of making it.
Yeah death is touchy subject, but let's make an effort to do something memorable before the lights go out. The manga is a bit way more fleshed out than the show, but each version of an iteration should be appreciated for what it has to offer.
Beautiful piece... thank you.
Darling an the Franxxx is a great example of a mecha anime.
So is code Geass.
Knights And Magic.
If you like animes with more swordplay and fighting..
Drifters.
Hellsing - Vampires
Jormungand
Black Lagoon
Ones that use a lot of different races to bring together a story --- Like an excessive amount of them to the point its amazing to see all the different ways they draw them :) --
Overlord
Mush-shi
The Ancient Magus Bride
Soukyuu no fafner is another underrated anime, because it's hella depressing but really good. It was released in 2003 and currently airing 3rd season
Love this video Syd. I really like the style and what you had to say. Please continue to make more like this. But love your videos no matter What!
I'm gunna check this out, thanks Sydsnap :)
I don’t watch mecha but darling in the franxx is one of my favorite anime’s 😂😂(it’s a mecha too)
Wow that video was really good and now I just want to go and watch that anime
Dude is it just me or does the animation in these characters faces look like they belong on King of the Hill
Loved the vid thanks for introducing me to this awesome premise
You just got a sub. Good job you made me frikin cry.
Oh no I'm sad now................damn this hit hard bruh, wtf?
Fuck, all the sad memories are coming back
Code Geass changed my preconceived stigma of mecha.
Great vid! I'll check out Bokurano right now actually, but before I do, I wanted to follow up on you saying something about advice about how to make these videos, and I thought I'd give you my perspective:
First off; great presentation of the synopsis and great analysis despite having to avoid spoilers and such. Thumbs up for that!
Second: Try to keep it as objective as possible. I know you wanna voice your opinion, and that's fine to some extent, but don't overindulge on the good things and only convey those. Are there some bad things? Something to keep in mind while watching it? Anything that the viewer needs to know going into this, you wish you knew before watching?
Third: Nice, short and sweet video all in all - But that ending was brutal, wow. Try to ease it off into a fade out or something, instead of cutting to black and silence. (lul)
Bokurano is one my favorite anime ever, been like 4 years since i've watched it tho so maybe i should give it a rewatch.
Went onto Crunchyroll while watching this video to see if it's on there. Thanks for the great video I'm gonna check it out
I totally had chills the second I saw bokurano...
I Definitely really love this video
Well she finally came around. Wished she did before idols put the genre on life support but its the thought that counts
I finally decided to watch it after stalling it so much because the trash taste boys keeps talking about it and i finally understand how good this show is. Didn’t expect you to make a review too but wow what a nice review made me rethink about the show all over again. AND YEAH DAICHI BEST BOY HIS DEATH DESTROYED ME THE MOST.
Loved it so much! I'm so excited to see this anime. You're doing great :)
Mecha anime has/had been traditionally classified into super robot genre (super heroes, vs monster/villanous mechas etc) and Real Robot genre (where mechas are part of military conflict).
To compare to Super Robot genre. In stereotyped RR genre, mechas can break, run out of power, the pilots are as frail as how humans should be, and as a protagonist one may friendly fire a friend, comrade, civilians. The cause that the protagonists are fighting can be questionable. Themes on sci-fi, humanitarian issues, politics, etc rolls around. Occasionally, the "pilots" question why they are even riding that giant mech (no, not just why they are fighting). Guilty pleasure, revenge, anxiety, seeking acceptance, peer pressure, etc. Some mecha designs are intentionally a personification of a character's personality.
These days it maybe harder to categorize mecha anime as SR or RR. The distinction between mecha animes today is like a spectrum.
At further dissection, "mecha" in anime are just medium of specific themes to be communicated and/or just for the sake of satisfying one's thirst for big robots fighting. Sometimes the mechas are symbol (for example) of human ego.
With what I've said,
I have to admit many mecha animes are there just to show off "big robot porn", dull fights, unworthy conflicts, nothing much special, nothing in particular to communicate. When I was a lil kid, all i cared about was big robot porn (like that of a Super Robot kind)
This was great, you could feel the emotion
Yaass, will watch. More vids like these would be great!
YOU HAVE TO WATCH KNIGHTS AND MAGIC!!! you earned a new sub~
This is a deconstruction anime of the mecha genre. I’m glad you found this. I’ve seen it and feel the same.
This is one of my all time favorite series but I forget all the time that it’s a monster of the week robot show.
Excellently done! I love that you're delving into analysis content. Personally I thought you did great with this! I'd love to see more content like this from you. I had never heard of this series, so I thank you for sharing this. It seems like my type of anime! Off to marathon!
^-^7
Sounds like the inspiration behind Darling in the FRANXX (also a mecha).
Great video. Really touching to see your insight on this anime. A tiny critique would be to let the music slowly fade out at the end instead of just cutting it.
00:34 Just needed to say- YEAHhh bokurano, F**K Yeahh... hm, continue
You deserve so much more subs
Bokurano: When Evangelion Goes Off Its Meds
Overall great video my one suggestion is to extend the end with a little more of the ost instead of it ending as soon as you are done speaking.
I think most of us like some more serious videos along side the usual funny ones !
Beautiful, Powerful & Emotional 👏👏
Need I say more.
A little preachy but I liked it nice job Syd I would like to see more shows that get you in a rush of excitement
Where's my gurrrls pretty face this time
This video left me deep in thoughts about how i'm going to use my life from now.
At least your parents liked it
A suggestion would be adding the title of Bokurano in the description
at least
Title can be left without it for clickbait reason and views
But not having bokurano in the description is odd since then the viewer has to wait till whenever you say it
And eventually I might wanna come back to remember the name and itd be real quick to just find it in the description
Bokurano! Excellent, I feel you.
And you got me into you
I really enjoyed this anime when it came out.
Wait, who doesn't want your serious videos?
Mainstream traeeesh?
Do what you FEEL!
Mecha anime are awesome
That awkward momment when the comic relief (sydsnap). Gets really dark.
This show was what atcually got me into mechas before that the only mecha i could tolerate was guran lagan
The best mecha anime i saw it called kandam wings its old but it got good stuff
"Thou Must Live, Die, and Know".
The author always like to put his characters in hard situations ,specially kids
I LOVED this anime. More of a character study then anything else in my opinion.
Bokurano Hit Me Like 😭.
I cri every time
Same😂
Great video! I will definitely check out the show now. Hope this inspired you to watch more mechs anime now :)
The only mecha I ever watched was Gundam 00, and I can say that it had GODLY animation. I tried to find other mechas with the same kind of animation but none of them stood a chance. I'm sure there are more mechas out there that are even better animated than Gundam 00 but I couldn't find any at that time. It was a great anime (even though I didn't understand shit because I was like 8 back then)
Good stuff.
Protec Sydsnap
I'm very happy that Bokurano has changed your mind on the mecha genre. What other ones have you watched and liked?
Mecha anime is cool but have you seen urotsukidoji? A true emotional journey.
Oh Syd
I'm a huge gundam fan because I used to watch the original series as a kid in Tokyo
Literally just watched neon genesis and man, I don't know why I haven't seen it earlier
Fuck YES!!!! BOKURANO IS AMAZING!!!
You must have never heard of code geass o.ò code geass the greatness D:
Good format keep it up!
I'm actually really curious that, after watching this (which I always thought more of as a character exploration with a mecha element) did you watch any other mecha anime and which of those you liked or disliked and why. I think that would be a very interesting follow-up video that would be more about exploring a new genre for you vs a deep impact video such as this (which I think you did quite well and would have no problem seeing more syd vidz like this).
Ok, time to see how Syd handles non-bullshit
this is your best video btw
I remember seeing it on Crunchyroll but it's gone atm.
