I like how meta this episode is.
Yedoye Travis is my favourite host of any anime related channel. He’s a gem who should host more often.
If you think about it Naruto pretty much becomes a magic mech anime near the end
THEY’RE JUST GIANT CHAKRA CREATURES

If you think about it Naruto is just DBZ with extra steps.

But yeah, two teenagers controlling giant magic monsters from the inside... almost like they were 'piloting' them... I see the connection.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the anime that ATTACKED ON TITAN before it was popular.

But seriously, I am not kidding.
So many coincidences and parallels between Shingeki no Kyojin manga and Zeta Gundam. Even more so now that Eren Yeager obtain a psychic power connection with the Ymir/Founding Titan which similar to the Newtypes of Gundam Universal Century timeline.
He gets mad at Japanium when Americium is a real element name
old scientists really were creative- einsteinium? californium? TENNESSINE?
truly tragic
I think scientist are little bit too busy to be creative lol
@@aliciaang6158 People who find the thing get to name the thing and normally that's after the place where it was found. Other less American elements are similarly named.
Don't forget Darmstadtium = Darmstadt DEU, Yttrium = Ytterby SWE, Holmium = Stockholm SWE, Scandium = Scandinavia and several others...
God I love this guy. He’s so salty and funny all in one. I rarely care about his topics he talks about but god knows I have to keep watching them just due to his sass and personality.
Yeah, I love more horror, mystery, thriller anime the most. He never talks about topics I know about or am interested in, but his videos (and Dori's) are my absolute favorites. Through his vids, I've also found some rad new shows to watch over the past few months. :)
Nerdmancer He’s also a decent follow on twitter
The Evas were mechs until you figured it out. It counts.
Even after that they qualified, what with just how much mechanical manipulation of the fleshy bits had to be part of that setup.
I mean they were giant human shaped constructions being controlled by humans... More or less anyway
the first episode they literally tell u the first time unit 01 is shown it's not a robot it's a "synthetic humanoid"
Still artificial, I guess?
The Evas were mechs until *Shinji* figured it out; then it was body horror with an Oedipal complex.
"Get in your mother, Shinji!"
Aye yae yae!! 😭
Yedoye and Adrian banter is my favorite thing!
I mean they slick left off Code Geass but it was still dope!
There were mechs but they weren't that crucial to the story. They were mere devices.
@@BroJo676 you could make the same argument for the majority of Mecha. Code Gess did nothing new to the genre.
@@brucebanana4486 Well, I haven't watched every mech anime series but it's safe to say in many such as Evangelion or RahXephon, you can't make the story without the mechs as they're inherent to the anime's universe. But Code Geass, I'd say the Geass and the political tumultuous climate (as well as the philosophical theme of getting rid of hatred) were more central to the story.
It's very run-of-the-mill, didn't change anything for the genre like Evangelion. Nor do anything for it internationally like Voltron.
So sad Escaflowne wasn't mentioned, a underrated mecha anime imo
Hitomi and Val needs to be noticed by other mecha than their friends of Sunrise like the gundam, the braves (Gaogaigar or Might Gain for exemple), the mecha from Code Geass (they're maybee unnnessecery, but this is what Suzaku, Lelouche and the others choose OK!) or Big O (That's from Sunrise right?)
Agreed! It's one of my favorites too!
@@alexandreturcotte6411 i love Might gaine!
I love everybody on Get in The Robot, but am I the only one that gets geeked when I see Yedoye. Dude is both hilarious and knowledgeable.
Him wearing Dorrie poofs has me goin PLEASE THIS MORE 😻
"Evangelion is not a mecha anime, they're made of flesh". A random airhead
We all know Gainax is the best (or at least, one of them)
-Gunbuster: the one who aim the top
-Evangelion: The ones who tries to not run away (especially Shinji)
-Diebuster: the ones who aim to the top farrest
-Gurren Lagann: The ones who "ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!"
yedoye had a lot of really good facial expressions in this vid
First, always here for a Yedoye video. Second, I always respected mecha anime, particularly real robot, for being relatively more diverse (i. e. black people) than other anime. I mean the Gundam and Eureka franchises alone…
Eureka 7 has one of the most diverse cast of characters in an anime and it was made in 2003. It is wild how some anime fans make it seem as if stories set in our world (or a planet resembling ours) having characters that represent the diverse looks of humanity is such an overbearing chore for anime creators.
Okay giant robots are pretty great, but can we talk about Yedoye’s super cute buns!
You mean his hair, right? :P
A bit unrelated, but we need another anime like Gurren Lagann.
I mean, everything that Trigger does (besides little witch academia) seems to be another try to make Gurren Lagann.
hi justin! hows your day going?
Promare
Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans
You mean super robot. Gurren Lagann isnt that different from most Superrobot shows. Try Gunbuster,Diebuster, Getter Robo Harmagedon, GaoGaiGar, Shin Mazinger etc etc ..Gurren Lagann is great but not that unique
I think my favorite thing about Yedoye's videos is that when he writes the script, it's fantastic. When he doesn't write the script, it's still fantastic because of how he will break from the script and refuse to say lines. I live for these moments.
“Do I keep that? Yeah”
I'm living for this look tho
This is the amount of people that want longer videos cuz get in the robot is a drug

No joke, I JUST finished Gigguks video about the history of Mechs as I got the notification for this video
Liked Gigguk's video better, but Yodoye adds a cool hosting here
@@julioramirez8069 it was terrible and misinformed about the genre. There was a thread in Reddit anime about mecha history, which is better. It also there some other RUclipsr who go full history of the genre.
@@brucebanana4486 are you really complaining a Gigguk video should be serious and accurate...
My first mecha anime was Gundam Wing, that has it's flaws, sure, but showed me a different kind of story, with a greater plot over multiple episodes, a war with characters "relatable" in both sides, which was nice to have. Look for things like it ever since, not many mecha anime related so well with me, although i see almost all of then.
Fun fact-Transformers released a version of the Autobot Skyfire that was just a rebranded Macross mech. Source-I have one. It has metal parts and transforms into both the 1/2 plane and full mech models and will probably outlive me. It also comes with ‘accessories’ that are just the deep space rockets and armor from Robotech/Macross as well.
Im fairly sure Hasbro ‘corrected’ this pretty quickly but this one shining example of a US toy company licensing japanese companies to design their mechs really paid off in dividends.
Robotech/Macross got me into mecha which is why I love the Valkyrie so much, though the knightmare frames of code geass and gurren lagann also have a place in my heart
I LOVE Mecha anime. Some favorites of mine are in this video, but bot shows I love that were not mentioned include but are not limited to:
Armored Trooper VOTOMS (1983): A veteran mecha pilot on the run from a galaxy-wide military conspiracy does battle in gritty "real robot" Armored Troopers in a dilapidated city, and a jungle planet I can only describe as "Space Vietnam", among other far-flung locales.
Iczelion (1995): While technically revolving around alien power armor instead of "giant" robots, this 2 episode OVA involves teen pop idols recruiting a high school girl fresh out of an encounter with alien cyborgs to do battle in VERY form-fitting power armor.
(The Vision of) Escaflowne (1996): A fantasy / steampunkish mecha anime about a young girl from Earth taken by magic to a parallel planet where wars are fought with steam-powered "Guymelef" Mecha, the titular "Escaflowne" being one of the strongest, piloted by a young prince who saved the girl's life from a dragon. In this world, magic and fortunetelling also work, and the young lady's hobby of tarot readings becomes dangerously accurate...
Godannar(2003): A fan-servicey comedy/drama about a husband and wife pilot team whose super robots unite to deal finishing blows to giant invading monsters. Nations across the world have their own paired pilots who fight as well. The monsters origins have a horrifying secret behind them...
RightStuf was my first real job and I lost my mind when I learned my beloved home of IA had our own Anime distributor. I had to work there. Met some great people and some lifelong friends. Big love for robots.
Big O needed more recognition. And where does Zoids fit in all of this? I think somewhere for sure!👍
Hey, did you hear that chicks dig giant robots?
Yo tbh if you give me more Yedoye in afro puffs, I WILL keep tuning in.
Oh man that Sword of the Stranger clip is literally the first time I have ever seen a horse animated correctly in anime. I honestly do not understand why shows with otherwise beautiful animation fall to pieces when they try to draw horses.
Whatever Yedoye smokes.. I want that
Patlabor remains one of my favorite "real mech" anime. Also Dominion Tank Police, which isn't mecha but has a similar feel.
Hey guys attack on titan is a meat mech
But that was before 2000s!
"meat mech" i'm dead, and I'm never not using that as a way to describe this show
Karlo Vojvodic
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the anime that ATTACKED ON TITAN before it was popular.

you dig giant robots, I dig giant robot, and chicks giant robot
Aaaah I loved this. I love all of this channel, but this was just as informative as hilarious. Definitely worth rewatching several times. Yedoye, you're big... and mobile, I guess
Super cool and funny video Yedoye! Always love learning about the different genres of manga and anime and always forget why Japan loves robits so much!
8:49 wait wait, all might has that same thing going on with his hair
Are we just going to ignore his Zero Fatigue Satin hoodie???!
Gundam Wing will always be one of my favorite mech anime
Transformers has gotten some inspiration from the good old anime mecha genre
Jedi piloting gundams would be the dopest
Isn't that what New Types are? Pilots with special Powers?
True but they’re generally lame powers like having everyone on the battlefield understand each other and not cool ones like shooting lightning out of your freakin fingers
@@davidsamet6969 Maybe the Proper term for New Types. Is that they are Psychics. Using Powers related to the mind.
@@davidsamet6969 but their evolution is a result of needing to sense things in the weightlessness/directionlessness of space, not out of a need for combat
Attack on Titan is actually an organic mecha anime.
One thing that could have been mentioned when Gurren Lagann came up was that the storyline of that show mirrors the history of the Giant Robot genre itself. The show starts out with a teen boy finding a giant robot and having some fun adventures in the first couple of episodes (similar to Tetsujin 28) and then evolves through escalating stakes into other genres that go along the aesthetics of Mazinger Z, to political intrigue with the Rissiu arc, to space opera with quasi-mass-produced "robots as military weaponry" like Gundam, to deep cut philosophical excursion into the worth and destiny of humanity in the final episodes that remind of Evangelion.
It's not a perfect alignment (and some of my references might be off), but it is pretty evident what the show is doing through its structure.
don't forget Getter Robo... especially when it grew large as a galaxy (taken from Getter Emperor)
Adorable host ❤️ very funny and entertaining to watch from start to finish!
SSSS.GRIDMAN : am i a joke to you?
Diebuster: I could have been there too... Nah! "Nonoriri" and her friends can be ok without me! Bye!
He's not really a robot, Technically he's more of a giant superhero
@@Gungelion That is true, but Powered Zenon is definitely a giant robot. Not to mention the show itself does take a lot of inspiration from Mech anime as much as Tokusatsu
@@RayShadow278But does the presence of a giant robot in an anime make it a giant robot anime?
... It's almost like a Zen riddle
Gridman has always ridden the line between a kyodai hero and a mech series.
I'll allow it.
I like how every video Adrian is either upset or cackling in the background
Another badass video! Thank you! Yedoye had me rollin'.
Also: yet another mention of mukokuseki at 7:37. GITR, I'm BEGGING you for a video essay on this. Please and thank you.
Hey man, we built robots, let them fight.
Jet Alone in Evagelion = Mecha anime :P
Evangelion are technically cyborgs.... with souls as Operating systems , The plug and LCL are the user interface . And the pilots are the users . ( this ends my computer analogy )
I agree!
Yedoye is rebelling against capital.
Yo thanks for the shoutout.
Maybe of topic, but love your hair in this one, dude!
Get In The Robot, this is my favorite video yet!
My favorite gundam series is the original series tied with mobile fighter g. Megus xlr was also decent.

That smino hoodie though 👀
Why can't Japan have Japanium? There's an element called Americium, AM, atomic no. 95.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihonium
There is also Polonium, literarly named after Poland
i appreciate all this research
Giant robots are the greatest things ever, I don’t understand why people don’t like them very much state side
Presenters giving Adrian sh*t is one of my favorite things about this channel.
Hmm someone should make a mech anime where the people in the anime are constantly trying to sell toys of the robots in the anime itself
There were so many mechas that were not mentioned in this "History" such as Voltes-5 and Daimos. If you have included those robots @15:55 made by japanese and americans, then you should have included the mechas in all sentai series.
he's adorable.... i loved this episode
13:28 you forgot the "a" in Hide(a)ki Anno's name!
When you realise the transformers has a few anime and most of the Ogs were molded in Japan
Bruh Nedoye is the best presenter on the show
Love the hair, Yedoye!
... Japanium.
Every single one of Yedoye's episodes is FIRE and I am here for it
Tiger and Bunny
Nascar
Just hero suits than cars
Judging by the last comment from the producer, I'm assuming that's why Eureka Seven wasn't mentioned?
Gurren Lagaan did not get the appreciation it deserves so I'm...Trigger...ed
Ill show myself out...
Love the hair
This episode is the moment in a video game when you've been playing for 5 hours and you've just finished the tutorial set-piece, then you round a corner and the title of the game is written in fire in the sky.
Also: G Gundam is the best mecha anime, fight me. Mo-cap martial artists in often culturally insensitive robots doing.. I guess you'd call it magic in a shounen-style tournament.
I suggest watching Mirai Robo Daltanious (Daltanious: Robot of the Future) if you want a classic super robot fix. It's really good... also the swan song for producer Tadao Nagahama (He died of hepatitis before Daltanious finish its run in 1979)
I've always loved the mech genre in theory. About the only mech anime I've ever watched through and thoroughly enjoyed was Big-O.
I also loved Sym-bionic Titan and Megas XLR, but those aren't actually animes.
Reminds me of how Eureka 7's mechas, with LFOs, are pretty much similar to Evas, while smaller, are still considered mechas.
got really excited cuz i thought they would bring up Gatchaman/G-Force when they brought up Voltron.
but i get it..the show was only 10% mecha, 10% Joe/Dirk being cool and 80% breaking bad guys' necks while dodging bullets in a hail of gunfire.
Its been a struggle to find out which one of you is my favorite as you all are very enjoyable to watch but after careful review i choose Yedoye oh please tell me i spelled that right
I am here for Yedoye’s hairstyle-also mecha
Futurama is Anime, confirmed.
I was told by the movie theatre to subscribe here but whole time i already was 😭😭😂😂
