I had learned about inertia before learning multi variable calculus, so the coefficients felt random to me and the teacher said that the math to derive it won’t make any sense to us. By the time I learned multivariable calculus, I was studying electrical engineering so we never really deal with inertia at all, so I’ve just never seen the derivation done. It makes perfect sense.
